I'm using Neutrino 2.2 with stock N_01.100.00R radio.
As I understand different radios may have a different impact on the battery life.
So I'd like to try another radio.
Two questions arise:
1. Can I backup my current radio? I have ROM Manager installed and cannot understand if my radio is also preserved?
2. Could you recommend a radio which doesn't eat out the battery?
Thanks.
Just download a flashable zip of your current radio and keep it on your SDcard.

So I understand it this way: ROM Manager & CWM don't backup radios?
I know only the version of my radio and not sure about origin. Is it European or other?
Is it possible to download the radio image from the phone directly with "fastboot" or anything else?
Thanks.

I do not know how to extract/pull the radio.img from the phone. What most people do is just put the radios they want to flash on their SDCards, then just be sure to wipe Dalvik and cache before flashing each one. I have an AT&T Atrix, so I can't advise on best radio for you to try.
You can find radio.img files and flash from fastboot, but you will have to search for them.
There is a problem that I don't know the exact version of my radio.
It's N_100, but either European, Asian or else?
I'd like to same a copy of my original radio for backup if any attempts with new radios would fail.

I have to return my European GSM Hero to HTC because of a problem with the backlight and usb connection so I should restore it to the original ROM.
It's currently running one of the 2.1 ROMs and has the RA-hero-1.6.2 recovery image also.
I have all the nandroid backups I made along the way including the first one which includes boot, cache, data, misc, recovery and system. Although the recovery image in this backup would be the custom one I put on there when I first rooted it.
I also have the original recovery image that was saved when I first rooted the phone using the flashrec app.
So I guess the procedure to restore it would be:
1. First restore the earliest nandroid backup and then,
2a. Boot into the old custom recovery and flash the original recovery image.
2b. Or I could use flashrec again to restore the original recovery image.
Any thoughts? Suggestions? Gotchyas I should know about?
Also is there anything special I have to do with the Radio? Do I need to restore to the original radio too?
Solved:
So I followed this procedure and it worked perfectly to restore my phone to the original ROMs:
1. Boot into recovery and restore earliest nandroid backup (which contained the original ROM but an old version of a custom recovery)
2. Reboot phone
3. Boot into the old recovery and flash an update.zip for the original radio
4. Reboot phone twice
5. Boot up phone and run flashrec, but flash the phone with the backup recovery image I made when I ran flashrec originally.
6. Restore the phone to factory settings before sending it back to HTC.
I didn't need to use the HTC Sync software or the RUUs at all and it all seems to have worked fine.
Thanks everyone for your help.
Orginal rom?
Download and install a orginal RUU rom update, and i belive Radio, rom etc. will be flashed to the stock rom?
Wow, useful first post!
I know you can flash the original HTC rom in update.zip format, but that will keep the custom recovery intact. After this you should restore the original recovery with flashrec.
in contrast to your 26th post chool's first post contains the correct answer to the question...
But it was still more informative than your 1,217th.
Chool is spot-on, though. You can download the HTC Sync software and run the original rom's RUU once it's connected to your phone, and it will set it back to the default original.

are you drunk, dumb or both?
edit: since THIS POST is #1217 for me you are actually right. yet my questions remains...
I should have mentioned that I'm on Linux. I'm pretty sure the HTC Sync software is only for Windows. I can get Windows if I need to, so that's not too much of a problem.
I have heard that running the RUUs once you have changed your Radio can be harmful? Is there any truth to that?

In answer to your question, neither. I was going by the numbers at the top right of your posts, which, this morning, was 1217. Did you perhaps delete something sending it back to 1216?

Hmm, it doesn't look like there's an alternative to HTC Sync which would work for Linux, as far as I'm aware. I haven't heard of any problems with RUUing after a radio change, but if you're concerned, I believe there should be no harm in reflashing your radios with the original versions first.
At the moment I have RA-Hero 1.6.2, and the rooted stock 1.5 HTC ROM (2.73.405.66) on a GSM Hero
I'm just wondering what the radio actually is, and whether I need to update it? From what I can gather, it's the actual phone part of the phone? At the moment I have 63.18.55.06EU_6.35.06.18 do I need to upgrade to 63.18.55.06JU_6.35.09.26
Also, do I just flash this like a normal ROM in .zip format?
I found the links here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=559622
Thanks
Yes aradio is the 'phone' part of the phone.
The is no actual need to update a radio but sometimes it can give a better service (better internet connection for example, or maybe better signal)
yes radios are flashed the same way as a rom, jus flash the .zip over the rom, DO NOT WIPE like you do with a rom.
And always do a nandroid backup before flashing.
Also be sure the radio is compatible with your phone. (check is GSM not CDMA)
Yeah I took a chance and just flashed it (did a Nandroid back up first of course )
I was worried as hell at first, because that weird logo came on like the phone coming out of the box, and then it was rebooting for ages
Haven't really noticed any signal increases, but I guess it can't do any worse can it!
Hi all. Thanks for taking the time to look and possibly help me out.
So I've had my thunderbolt since mid April. I rooted it promptly after opening and things were great.
I want to expand out and try CM7. From all i've been reading, i'm completely confused. I'm hoping i can get some pointers on what i need to do. From what i can tell i have to download the CDMA and LTE Radios and then flash them (seperately?)
from gu1dry TB Radios post updated 9/24
I will then have to copy the zip onto the root of the SD card. I will then rename one of them to PG05IMG.zip. i then reboot the phone, holding the Vol- button, go to Hboot and follow the instructions to update. Once the phone reboots, rename the zip to something else and change the other radio to the PG05IMG.zip and repeat.
Next, i have the CM7 download (from slayher, updated 10/2)
which i then copy to the SD card, rename to the PG05IMG.zip and do the flash thing. and then rename.
FInally i have to install the google apps (from the link in slayher's post again) but i'm unsure of how to do that.
If anybody could help me out, i would appreciate it.
thanks.
Your steps for flashing the radios is correct; however, ROMs and the GApps packages are flashed in recovery (clockworkmod recovery, twrp, etc).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1220484
As for the radio installation you are correct. One thing different is you don't have to flash them separately. You can flash together unless there is a reason you want to match different cdma with the lte radios.
This is the proper steps for flashing the rom from start to finish.
First time flashing CyanogenMod 7 to the Thunderbolt, or coming from another ROM?
Root the device and install ClockworkMod Recovery. Instructions are available here.
Perform a NANDroid backup of your current ROM.
Format the system, data & cache partitions of your device.
Perform a factory reset.
Flash CyanogenMod.
Optional: Install the Google Apps addon package.
If you are not familiar with the flashing or terms of nandroid continue to read or maybe Google some youtube videos.
Thanks for the help.
I have rooted my phone, but kept the Sense ROM loaded. I have Rom Manager/CWMR (5.0.2.1)
The radios i downloaded came seperately, one for the CDMA, one for LTE. how do i combine them? can i just pull out both zips and rezip as 1 file? then do the install?

Options:
1) You can flash them separately one after the other
2) You can pull the .img from one of them and put into the other zip
3) You can use this (md5: b1e10920c1f191561fd05f1e9c445482)
btw, it's A Rat

Figured I'd include a link to the combined radio list...

Ok, so Flashed the GB radio (2.11...) But didn't get a signal. So I flashed back to the stock radio and i have signal again.
did i not get a signal because the radio was for GB, and i was still running Froyo?
thanks for the help

Yes. The new radio that you flashed won't work on your current stock rom but should work on the roms you mentioned that you weren't getting a signal on before. As I said, in your case you will need to change the radio to get a signal with the roms you are flashing but it will probably break the current stock rom you are running.
I just wanted to say thank.
I now have CM7 on my TB, along with the apps. I've flashed to the 2.11 radio and things look good so far.
THanks for all the help everyone
I've had bluetooth streaming problems with EVERY ICS custom ROM that I've tried before and after 3.11.605.22, and while on the stock RUU itself. I want to get back to a GBE based ROM, on stock firmware but I wonder how it's going to work after having flashed the 3.11.605.22 RUU.
Has anyone gone back? Is it even possible to get back to the previous firmware, or am I SOL?
I assume that a simple nandroid restore is now out of the question (and probably won't fix the bluetooth problem) given the firmware changes with the RUU

it actually is just that simple, flash your GB nandroid and/or ROM the GB kernel.
you will need to flash this file after flashing back to your nandroid/ROM in order for rom to see SD card.. same fix was applied with old firmware to have sd seen on ics roms. its just doing the reverse.

Similar situation. Completely unacceptable power draw is frying my battery on the leak. I'm afraid I'm going to cook my phone, and USB charge can't keep up with the drain unless I put it in airplane mode. I have good nandroid backups of the current OTA release (released February, I think?) but I don't know where to get suitable GB kernel or how to install it. Can you explain?

Thanks. I'll have to give it a try. So you say I should flash a previous backup / ROM from recovery, then flash the kernel (if it doesn't flash as a part of the ROM installation)

yea do the exact same thing you would do as if you are on still on the old firmware.
the ONLY thing you do differently, is flash the .zip file I attached in my other post anything AFTER flashing the new GB ROM/ and/or old backup.. and kernel(in hboot) if not included in ROM.
Hello,
I just barely rooted my Atrix 4G for the first time. Before I bother to unlock the bootloader and flash a custom ROM, I want to find out if it's possible to return to stock everything, including radio. I understand I can use nandroid to backup the stock gingerbread ROM, but what about the stock radio? I did find another thread that said it's impossible to backup the radio, but if that's true, how did the devs post radio ROMs?
If it's impossible for me to backup the radio, then where can I get the stock radio? (2.3.6, 4.5.141) I want to be sure I can get it before I go flashing custom ROMs.
Yes, I did google for "atrix stock radio" and "atrix backup radio" and didn't find an answer...
Ok, i did find a thing that says my radio version can be found in settings -> about phone -> baseband version.
Mine has a "37" in it, so I'm guessing this is my stock radio: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1554799
When you flash any ROM the radio stays so you should have no problems in that area.
Always make a Nandroid backup before jumping to a new ROM.
When you do an upgrade, the radio stays the same, so you don't have to worry about that.
That can be verified by about phone -> baseband...
