Hi guys,
I recently downloaded Ubuntu to begin app development for the Galaxy Player 4.0 but encountered a major problem: No Internet.
HOW do I get my WiFi to work on Ubuntu 12.10 wubi? Can someone PLEASE give me a step by step instruction guide to get my WiFi running?
All I know is that you have to do some complicated stuff.
Thanks. Any help would be appreciated!

Hmm, never used Ubuntu before, but don't you think you could get better support on an Ubuntu forum?

Just go on the wifi icon by your battery and log in to the right network. But yeah, ubuntu forums are your best bet for help

nothing worked for me, looks like i have to use the ethernet cable.
Try going to your software sources and check for additional drivers. It might be turned off. That happened to me when I first started using Ubuntu

why not just set up ubuntu in vbox?
ERM...you MIGHT just get better results in a forum actually dedicated to Ubuntu. Usually, those issues occur with older broadcomm WiFi chips, which may be what you have, you should check (Google is your friend). It shouldn't be too hard to fix it, but I silent a week a few years ago trying tofix it just bbecause I wasn't patient enough for it to scan for networks.
This is a galaxy player forum ... it seems that the mod here is pretty nice...

You should post your wi-fi card model if you want us to be able to help. Without this info we can't do much except recommand you to check in computer setting > software source > additional driver. I know sometime there is a firmware wich need to be installed from there for some broadcom card. Hope this help you.

No. The app tries to enable blue tooth and it hangs. It also freezes my bluetooth and wifi so i have to restart the phone.

Same thing happens to me I contacted support they sent me the newest version still nothing its something HTC did with the bluetooth setting. Best thing we can do is wait for cm10 which should fix the problem according to support
Sent from my HTC One X+ using xda premium
I believe the reason is because we do not use the Bluez Bluetooth stack that the program was originally written for, instead we use broadcom bt.le. I may be wrong.
We also do not have android 4.2 which the dev rewrote the drivers for.
We are stuck in the void till we get an update, cm, or a rewritten driver. 2 of 3 options seem likely.
I destroyed my rom using trial and error to try to get this working last night and had to reflash.

BTW, Q & A means questions and answers. If an original post provides no beneficial information about the phone, including development, or general discussion about apps, accesories, or upcoming features, and the thread ends with a question mark, 9.8999 times out of 10, it belongs in the Q & A section.
This is a pretty big habit in the HOX+ sub

Me too, I wonder if there will be a way to get this on the Rezound
I'm sure it will be able at some point. I don't know if there will be issues with moving drivers to it, but i don't think it will be too long after the release till we see at least a bit of progress on it.
If not, I'll finally try my hand at putting together a ROM. haha

It's endorsed by Canonical, so yes. They don't release or distrubute anything closed source. That's the reason you can't get stuff like Oracle Java or Google Chrome as part of Ubuntu without doing the legwork to install it yourself.
The good thing is that by the time we are all bored of jellybean and development has slowed, it will probably be ready to flash on our rezzie. Good reason to keep the phone another year or so. Who else registered their email for info.

Well they did recently add proprietary Nvidia drivers to their official repositories. Not to mention that the mainline kernel does have some blobs in it (of course that's why GNU maintains a version that is open source only).

Hopefully eventually we can get something like Replicant (100% free and open source version of Android).
I'm probably dreaming, though, since we have way too much proprietary hardware.
Rezound Ubuntu
Ubuntu would be so fun on a Rezound! But would it still be able to do all the messaging/calling features from android? Would it even be significantly different in that respect?
Either way it would be fun!!!

From what I've seen while looking at videos and whatnot, the experience is totally different. It reminds me of a really fancy Meego. Which is a good thing, imo.
I don't pay much attention to Engadget anymore, but they've a very good video up on Ubuntu for Phones. The founder of Cantonical says that it will be available to download and that "we have a large community, we expect folks will help make images for a variety of different devices." I think that pretty much confirms our open source questions.

(The OS looks a bit snappier than in The Verge's video.)

Any news on the Ubuntu Mobile OS front?
Sent from my Rezound using xda app-developers app
Yes, this is a general title, but they only allow me to put so much. I am new to the forum, so please bear with me.
Here's the problem: I connect my phone to my computer and either the driver fails (Samsung USB Composite or MTP) or my computer (finally) recognizes my phone, installs drivers correctly, but when I go to look for files, nothing shows up.
What I've done:
-I'm using the original USB cable that came with my phone and it charges fine
-I've plugged it into all available USB ports
-I've restarted the phone numerous times, taken out the SD card and the SIM card with no luck
-I've uninstalled the Samsung drivers and done the same
-I'm running stock ROM, even flash reset a couple times with the same problem
-I'm running the latest software from Verizon
-I've tried switching USB debugging on and off, only gives me further errors such as that the phone can't recognize the system I'm running with my computer being unable to install the drivers correctly
I have a hunch that the Micro USB input from the phone may be to blame, but I'd like to get an opinion from the forum before I decide to send it to the store to get it replaced or fixed. It also could be just a bad ROM flash, but again I'd like to get an opinion before I absolutely have to do so.
EDIT: I apologize, I'm running Windows 7 by the way.
i am going though this right now too. I just stopped working tonight worked for the past 3 days
When mtp is the problem I've yet to find and answer. It's something to do with your computer I just can't recall right now. I researched it once because I had a that sane problem. Never did fix it. If they are both on a wifi network you can use airdroid it works great, that's what I ended up doing.

It could just be the latest firmware. It's still a new phone, and I'm sure Samsung/Verizon haven't fixed all the bugs yet. What OS do you run? I run W7, but it's dual booted on my iMac, and the Mac side doesn't work either.

On my s3i had this issue also on w7 and w8. So I would just not to recovery and transfer files, but that does not help those that are not rooted.
Currently my pc boots win8 and Linux, so I just use Linux when it comes to doing anything with my devices.

Does anyone have all the cf auto root files and or a good way for me to get my computer to make her note 2 to recognize casual ty for helping this ol'noob out

I was having a problem with the Casual program working too, but now that I got some sleep and looked again; I see that my AV had one of the files in quarantine. I could not get it to let go either, so I had to turn AV off and redownload casual. Works fine now! Also, not sure what phone you said again, but there are nightlies of casual where you might try other versions of it. The link is in one of these threads where you found casual initially.
