[Q] Will I9300 works with Tmobile 4G data service? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I have Galaxy II with Tmobile data plan. I just switched the phone to Galaxy III 9300 international version, which is a gift from my brother...
I mananged to cut the current tmobile sim card smaller and put in the 9300. I am able to make the call, but cannot enable the 4G data connection.
Just wonder will 9300 version will work with tmobile 4g network. should I need to upgrade or change the android software to make it works?
Thanks

Buying an unlocked phone?

I'm getting antsy waiting for T Mobile to say when they are going to release the SG 2. Is it or is it not correct that if I were to buy an unlocked one that is not issued by T Mobile that I would not get 4G or even 3G data speeds? Are there any other downsides to buying one that is not sold by them? TIA...
Since Europe and Asia use different wave frequencies for data connections you will not be able to use the Samsung Galaxy S II GT-i9100 for 3G/4G connections in the U.S, but EDGE will work. I use T-Mobile in the States and own the Galaxy S II and can only use the EDGE network aka 2G. If you care for the 3G/4G then don't get this phone, yet.
I have heard that you can use AT&T's network for 3G though.
That's what I had heard somewhere. Thanks for the details as to why.

European Galaxy S2 on AT&T network. 4G???

i had my iphone 4 for more than a year, and i finally decided to go back to Android!!
i just purchased WHITE GALAXY S2 (European Unlock Model)
My question is..... i know that i have to get new sim card because iphone 4 uses micro simcard, and galaxy s2 needs the regular one..
but i was wondering if my galaxy s2 can have 4G on aT&T network?
do i have to activate something? like get different 4G sim card or pay little more montly fee? or i dont have option to have 4G on it?
Please answer my question!
thank you...sorry if someone already posted similar question on this forum!
Depends on what you consider 4g, I don't consider HSPA+ 4g and the speeds I get on my SGS II (which came with a UK plug) works more or less as fast as my Inspire. So I would say yes.

MetroPCS? Will this phone (specifically the GT-I9100) even work on their network? I thought they were a CDMA carrier?
EDIT: hold up. You say "about to get Galaxy S2 I9100 switched over to metro"... does this mean you already have the phone and are switching to Metro? Or did you order the phone and are waiting for it to arrive, and plan to switch to Metro?
Your profile says you are on T-Mobile USA. If you ALREADY have a Galaxy SII on T-Mobile, you probably have the SGH-T989.
If you DON'T already have a Galaxy SII, and you've ordered the GT-I9100, and want full use of 3g/"4g", you will HAVE to go to AT&T or H2O, or any other GSM carrier that may be regional to your area that uses the same frequencies as AT&T. Or, you could stick with T-Mobile, but your mobile data speeds will be limited to Edge.
MetroPCS uses completely different cellular transmission technology, and the GT-I9100 will not even pick up a signal on their network for voice, let alone data.
EDIT 2: For that matter, if you have the T-Mobile variant (SGH-T989), that one won't work on Metro either, for the same reason.
Well it's both I'm picking up the phone after work and I plan to get it flashed to Metro. I was told that the phone is the Sprint Samsung Galaxy S2 I9100. I'm doing it for my girl who already has Metro. I have seen other user selling Galaxy S2 already on Metro so I know for a fact that they have the Web & MMS working, I just cant find it for myself! Thanks for the reply by the way!

Who ever told you "Sprint Samsung Galaxy S2 I9100" is wrong. There is no such thing.
The I9100 is the international model that operates on GSM.
If it's from Sprint, they meant the "SPH-D710", not "I9100".
You are better off asking in this forum. Someone there may have experience flashing a Sprint variant to Metro.
It's not very likely that anyone here in the I9100 forums is going to be able to help you, sorry.
I think he posted the wrong model>>>>> What Carrier has Galaxy S2 model I9100???? I think sprint model is Sphd710!
Thanks for the Help!!!!

If he said it's flashable to Metro, then yes, he got the model wrong.
NO carrier in the US carries the I9100. It is the international model. But like I said, it works on AT&T for voice and 3g/"4g" (which is what I'm using), and T-mobile USA for voice and Edge.

I believe you were told wrong. Verizon doesn't use SIM cards, and I don't think the T-mobile Galaxy S2 gets the right frequencies to get high speed mobile data on ATT's network.
EDIT: my mistake. I guess Verizon DOES use SIM cards now. I didn't know that. But I doubt they use the same frequencies. And also, Verizon's voice network is still a CDMA network, whereas T-mobile's voice network is GSM. Different tech, so you wouldn't get voice.
One more thing: this isn't the forum for the T-mobile Galaxy S2. (that's here)
This is the forum for the GT-I9100, the international version of the Galaxy S2.

From what I can tell, there is no hardware for GSM support in that model, so this is not an option. Just because it has a SIM slot, does not mean it has the necessary antennas and such for other network support. Your best bet would be to use your phone as a hotspot or get a mobile hotspot if you are trying to use it without traditional wifi.
