For those using TWRP Recovery, I've updated the installer (v1.5a) to make it compatible with TWRP.
It still works totally fine with CWM as well, so you can use your preferred recovery
If you already are on v1.5, no need to reflash, there's nothing new in the kernel / Aroma Menu.

I flash it and even the installation went OK when I go in About phone it shows the Kernel I used before flashing this one. Since I used Franco's kernel it still says that I am on that Kernel.
Is this only happen to me?

Can you flash it again and save the logs (button in aroma after flashing) and post the logfile for me to have a look ?

I just flashed a different kernel, checked, reflashed 1.5a again, worked fine...

Sorry, sorry, sorry...
It was my mistake. And I saw that when tried to flash it again. At the end of installation I selected Flash script and not flash kernel and that was my mistake. Now I choose the right one and it's all OK.
Sorry for this... I will test it a few hours and give you my feedback.

Lol Ninolina just a guess but I think you don't have to sorry for anything! We are all learning in here Maybe from this Yank could add a "(default)" on that option? or kinda to avoid mistakes¿

Well, you may be right, but I just hate if I report something is wrong and than see it was my mistake and I false alarm it. It usually don't happen to me.
Btw yank, before sleep time, what you think about the readahead buffers some lower by default? I had some handups when multitasking hard and using 3Mb, on 512Kb still no related issue for now Even the "benefits" are hard to detect (even they are there I swear!) the "hickups" are easily detected
You could try yourself by switching to maybe even higher lvl's if you hadn't done it already. What you think on putting them a little bit down for the common user who has no clue on how this works?
PS: Multitasking meaning using internet or whatsapp while downloading some huge item like a film, where you have the SD card burning

Can do. I used to have them at 2Mb, upped them to 3Mb on the Sammy. Might be a bit too much ... if you do sequential reads it should help, but if it's random access it sure will generate unnecessary overhead.
What value works best for you ? 512 ? Have you tested 1024 ?

Nt yet, initially I tested 256 and all went good, now up to 512 for some days, may go up to 1Mb if u wish
Any ideas on how to test the "good" situation to use it (for benefits) and the "bad" (for the "hickups")? You know way better than me how this works P And even if it's nearly unnoticeable all learnt is welcome

Well using a big readahead buffer on random reads (reading randomly accross inside of a file) should be bad, as you will have the system read let's say 4Mb ahead of what you asked for...
On the other hand reading a full file, e.g. copying it or watching a video ... should be better with a big buffer.
So the trick is to find the right balance...

great work but can any one please give us screenshots for battery usage and time screen on to judge??
Looking great man!
I'm reaaaaaally tempted to try this but i'll miss two features from perseus...
Gpu oc/uv and the "voodoo" port...
both should be kinda easy to import to this kernel i think...
It's not a request,don't get me wrong.It's more like a suggestion.
Anyway.Thank you very much for contributing here on xda and specifically on the S3 forums!
It always feels good to see a great "new" kernel/rom making it's way here!
I wish you the best mate...

Ok... Here's the CRT zip. This is from Android Revolution Rom modded to work with our EVO 3D. Flash this in recovery.
Works for me in the Supra rom. I'm told this works on Viper too. Maybe some more.
I would backup just to be sure.
Wipe Dalvik and make sure animations are enabled and that they are set to a normal speed - in SpareParts.

I wanna thank TrevE cause that's where i got the idea from. compared smali files. So please thank him... Also he might have done a better job then me at it. So check out his ROM it's fast.

What is this for? Pardon my ignorance.
Was this taken from a Sense 3.0/gingerbread/evo 3D rom?
Does this break Wifi / USB hotspot?
It didn't work on mine. If this is what i think it is, when you push the power/sleep button it looks like a crt monitor turning off ? It would be nice if it did work though, i am using supershooter rom right now.

Quick question, flashing this file will only change the SYSTEM partition right? I'm doing a full NANDROID now, but in the future I could just do the SYSTEM portion and be safe right?
well it worked for me im on viper rom with remix kernel and thys ginger theme. I dont know what or how much of a difference its made, it seems a little more responsive, all benchmarks are about the same, i guess linpack was a little more consistant instead of numbers being all over the place. Is there somthing else i should be checking with this?

Flash the second zip. That has the hardware accelerated UI. should fix the lattency if you have any.
It needs the GPU to work on this cause it's an animation.

ok now when i run quadrant the cpu part of the test wont run which is a shame cause the numbers on everything else is much higher.

mods the build.prop and system yes.
Flashing second zip now.. Will report.
Not sure if any of you have run into this yet, but I am using Pocket Casts to listen to netcasts, when I shut off the screen everything keeps playing fine, however when I turn back on the screen the phone soft reboots. Does it at the same spot every time. I tried moving the netcasts to the sdcard instead of external sd as a test. Still does it...
This happens to me on both the Aug 8th and 9th build from DAGr8, But does not happen on any of the other JB previews builds. And Yes, I wiped everything
I use my phone in the car for netcast listening a ton, so this is something that keeps me from using this daily unfortunately.
Other than that, everything else seems to run great. just seems like an odd thing to reboot the phone, maybe it has something to do with the audio players and how they interact with the lock screen as they like to put up a player wallpaper thing on the lock screen...
Thanks for the Q&A!!
I can not get google now working. It hangs on initializing then cant connect. I know on jamies cm10hybrid/ jb we needed the internal kernel....DAGr8 Do you think that kernel would solve the prob? Im not sure if you use Gnow....or if you recommend using a diff kernel...( going to re read op now too)

The hotwire-internal kernel should work fine with DAG's JB rom, not sure if it'll fix your issue or not, but should be easy to test. But I don't see a kernel package from DAG if you wanted to flash back...
I prefer the hotwire-internal kernel myself as it has BLN support where as the R5S1 included with this rom i think does not? if that's important to you...

I know we're not supposed to ask for ETA's and im not but does anyone know (in lamen's terms) the reason why camcorder doesnt work? Is it a compatibility issue cause JB is so new?

I think the issue is in the CM10 base - JB PA also has broken video at the moment.
Edit: I see JB PA dropped an update this morning and I didn't see reference to broken video on the OP. Maybe a matter of time? :fingers-crossed:

Loving the Aug 9th build except for a few issues (incl the Google Now referred to above) - the changelog states that "wake on volume" is built in but it neither works nor do I see a setting to turn it on like in other CM9/CM10. Do any of you have that?
On the kernel thing would we just flash the AOKP JB and then flash hotwire's internal.zip, then followed by JB Gapps?

I can't find that setting either.
As far as the flashing sequence, that should work although I did AOKP, JB GAPPS and just a few minutes ago flashed hotwire's internal. No issues to report.
I used to change kernels all the time on my Nexus, I would just flash the kernel whenever, no wiping. Can't hurt to wipe cache/dalvik, but no need to reflash the ROM.

Features and changelog?
I'm sure I will feel dumb when someone answers this but I could not find the feature list or changelog for JB. The AOKP site only references ICS milestone 6 as the latest. I tried following the links from the DEV thread and I tried a google search which led to rootzwiki but I didn't find anything for the Galaxy Note. I'd like to try this out but I'd first like to know what is/isn't working.
CPU Settings Do Not Stick
I have gone into the performance settings and I usually change my min frequency to 192 (max at 1566) and checked on "set on boot"- I have noticed that the frequencies do not stick at all but keep reverting to 384/1566 - does anyone else see this?
EDIT: Some users are reporting that they get a Sim locked message. Flash this at your own risk!
Please stop and check out ShoStock3. I haven't used it, but it's probably way better than this. c;

As you may know Turbo kernel [Multiboot] and "STOCK" Based ICS ROMS breaks the Camera. Well one thing Dan told me it that swapping the drivers form a CM9 based rom should fix the camera, so i did and it indeed worked! so i whipped up a simple patch that will install the Drivers to your ICS ROM on turbo kernel and fix your camera!

Thanks man thatd be awesome it'd you could continue turbo kernel. If not then oh well but I hope you can. Also if you run an miui site would you be able to stabilize dans miui5?

nick should take your time..anything he can do for play, surely he is going to do it...instead of turbo kernel, maybe you can help develop MUIU 5 already started by Dan..just a suggestion since i think maybe you the one that can do it..and turbo kernel is already the best kernel and stable. thanks for your work all FREE and sorry for something said here that im sure you dont deserve it.
Guys please try and keep on-topic here and resist the urge to argue or throw insults at other members.
Thread cleaned... and I'd prefer not to have to return for the same reasons.
Thanks.

Well I didn't mean to insult you but come on... That wasn't nice that you've promised something and you haven't done what you've promised. Just you know I don't demand anything from you or anything but many people got excited and that's it. Nothing but excitement we've had. Take your time but please finally make your words true because you can see a lot of people saying the will do something and finally the don't.
Hope you will do something and won't get angry on me, I didn't mean to insult or offend you.

Q: why are there faux and faux free versions?
A: i love a lean kernel. with that said if you never plan on messing with gamma, or
purchasing FauxSound control app then i suggest you use the versions that dont have those features.
makes no sense to use a kernel with lots of bells and whistles youll never use.
Q: whats frontswap?
A: Frontswap -- and cleancache -- with a fairly small impact on the kernel,
provides a huge amount of flexibility for more dynamic, flexible RAM
utilization in various system configurations
When a workload starts swapping, performance falls through the floor.
Frontswap significantly increases performance in many such workloads by
providing a clean, dynamic interface to read and write swap pages to
"transcendent memory" that is otherwise not directly addressable to the kernel.
This interface is ideal when data is transformed to a different form
and size (such as with compression) or secretly moved (as might be
useful for write-balancing for some RAM-like devices). Swap pages (and
evicted page-cache pages) are a great use for this kind of slower-than-RAM-
but-much-faster-than-disk "pseudo-RAM device" and the frontswap (and
cleancache) interface to transcendent memory provides a nice way to read
and write -- and indirectly "name" -- the pages.
Q: I heard if you disable swap, then performance increases.
A: Bottom line is that, without swap:
1. Your system will be less stable.
2. Your system will not be able to hibernate as well.
3. Disk access speed in your system will be slower compared to a system that has swap partition.
Moreover, disk access speed will drop in the course of time.
Q: ive been messing with my frequency settings, and they wont stick. what gives?
A: the installer hardcodes min/max frequencies. if youd like to try something different
run the installer again, and pick new min/max frequencies there.
Q: I'm trying to use gamma control, but the settings dont seem to stick once my screen shuts on/off.
A: im aware of this. if you use the FauxControl app from the playstore your setting will stick better
however youll still have to cycle your screen on/off to reapply the values. im looking into this and hopefully
will figure this issue out soon.
Q: DriveDroid?
A: this is an app that allows you to use your phone as a bootdisk for your PC.
Q: My phones really hot, what the heck did you do!?
A: put your phone down. heavy use of your phone will make it hot. no amount of
kernel magic will keep your phone cool while under heavy use.
Q: just to spite you ive been flashing GPE kernels on sense roms, and they WORK!!!!
A: yes they boot, but any issues you have while expiermenting will make it more difficult
to seperate user error from kernel error. please just use GPE for GPE based roms and SENSE for
SENSE based roms.
Q: if i see you on the street, can i shake your hand?
A: NO
Q: can we have more governors?
A: no, kernels dont like redundancy. having four governors based on the on-demand governor just
isnt good practice.
Thanks mate!! Can I use this in Insertcoin?
EDIT : Also anyway to implement kexec-hardboot?
EDIT 2 : Sorry for the questions, just figure I'd ask now before the thread gets flooded with this question.. but since we have m8 kernel source is there any way to get motion gestures, again, sorry for the questions.

Sorry for the stupid question :
The difference between GPE kernel and Sense kernel? Because I have flashing a GPE kernel with Sense rom (Insertcoin v2.3.0)and it also works well.

Kexec-hardboot is kind of pointless right now until I figure out why it won't boot sense as the primary rom, but I believe it's already enabled, it was in .torrented's versions at least. Btw if you think you might have any ideas on how to fix that, help is welcome. Pretty sure it has something to do with how partitions are mounted. If you look through the multirom thread you can see my unsuccessful attempts to fix it.
@iHateWebOS good to see your own thread for this

Gpe kernel will boot on sense, but you may have touch issues ect. To be on the safe side, and to avoid false bug reports Im posting the two versions.

I'm using Google Now Launcher on a Sense 6 ROM and everything is good. Is there a recommendation of Sense over GPE as Sense is my base or should I be using GPE?
Sense base = sense kernel. Gpe base = Gpe kernel.

The default settings set at default clock speed will net you the best balance. If your looking for more juice run the fauxless version with all wake options disabled.

Interesting, thank you for the response. Just to be clear you are using his build version R4.4 (not the newest that was rebased)? I ended up with a frozen boot then the display split into colored lines before going black. I am well versed in compiling roms but was not sure if base is a factor for kernels.
Thanks

Using 5.2 now but I've been using his sense 6 rom sense release. It's what I've used for everything I've released so far. As long as its sense android version is 4.4.2 you should be good to go

OK must be a bad flash...I will re download and try again. I can't remember ever having a bad download. I was unsure if your newest posts was only designed to work with his current base.
Thanks
Update:
Re downloaded and checked md5...good download same results. Screen gets stuck at boot then multi-color lines before going to a grey blank screen. I have all the latest firmware and radios, not sure why the Faux enabled Sense kernel will not work for me.

@iHateWebOS - is FFC enabled in these builds, like the ones you've given me in the beastmode thread? If I follow this thread and flash updates, is it the same kernel as those builds? Thanks!
They should be fine for Venom 3.5.0 right?
