I have an assignment in school, and was wondering what would be the easiest way to make an android app.
Standard startscreen with play game, help etc and then a choice of a multitude of levels, each level will be similiar to copter or jetpack joyride (a lot simpler than jetpack joyride tbh) thanks guys

Well if we want to go that route...
Android SDK + Java + Vi = Android App.

I was suggesting that there are other GUI editors newbies could use and can compile the app with ant. With my experience eclipse can be just as convoluted as setting up a Linux environment. In real world use, vi would be used by a very low percentage of users.

Dont forget that there are many for emulators too
Terminal Emulator
Windows Emulator
And sometimes some app devs add useless tags to their apps

LMAO!
Which part of the number 716 didn't you comprehend? Do you realise how many apps that is, windows, dos, snes, dgen, mame. ..
You may deem me rude, but I am not stupid and I do research before I post a pointless vague threads. Why think and respect the forums and it's members? Post right away and disregard the common sense.

There are lots of resources out there, but to get going, you need:
1. Eclipse
2. JAVA JDK if on Windows; installed on Macs
3. Android SDK
This link should help...enjoy!
http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
Oh, some programming experience would be nice too, preferably JAVA

I think if you programming experience in any other language it would be fine..because there are lot of tutorials out there for android ..plus you have got forums like this and stackoverflow where there are people ready to help you..
I just started 8 months ago with no prior experience in Java..(I had only studied in school) but now I am able to make out because of the online resources..
Try hard by going through lot of information available on Web
Really nice guide. Includes everything even, how to configure eclipse.

Can I get Google Chrome for SGY 2.3.6? It only supports 4.0+. Any tweakers here?
Try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1593432
I personally haven't tested it though.

It only supports 4.0+ for a reason. So i don't think it'll work.
However you can try the link Mitko provided, i haven't tried it, but i'm sure it won't run without lagging. The browser's ram requirement is too high.
Code:
System.out.println("Sent from my SGY");

Cant we port it by first decompiling the apk then using the decompiled files as source for an eclipse project and mod it to work on minimum 2.3??

See, eclipse can work on projects based on existing source code. But the problem, we can't convert the smali into java files. The only way developers have modded apps is by editing the smali.

Hello i would like to make my first steps as an android developer..i know this **** is difficult and i know you should learn many staff about os stractures etc and of cource a good understanding of some programming[c java]... but i am intrigued by those things[i am also starting my studies about programming in university] but i dont know where to start and what exactly should i learn to have a good understanding about android and be ready to start compiling. building and porting android source to some devices[i know it will take some time but i dont care as i really like programming ]
[ i know some basic stuff about roms kitchens logcat porting and i have really basic level of programing skills [ but i suppose that is not enough]
The only skill required for compiling a rom is reading. There are thousands of tutorials about how to do this.
Porting ROMs to different devices will require some more skill, I think most of the difficulty is in the C part although I personally don't have experience with this.
Most important thing is java
if you successfully compiled ROM and found bugs like FC
you will find it very hard to fix
learn java then continue and then follow the guide by @jackeagle and his awesome team

Yup
But you must don't forget
android 50% of it is apps
Java required for help in fixing bugs in your ROM
For example if you have FC while choosing an option in settings
What you should do ?
Let's think a bit
Settings at the it is an apk file
apk = android app = written with java = can fixed with java
don't go to final phase fast
Start from zero and learn Java and then you can start with ROM development
and then Learn c/c++ then start with kernel development
Do that and make your life easier
you will find that hard a bit in the begins (nothing easy in this life and nothing impossible)
but at the end you will find your self an expert
Hit thanks if i helped you
