It's a feature only for HTC devices (precisely, it is a feature of Sense, the proprietary interface of HTC)

There is USB and Bluetooth tethering of your wifi or 3G connection. Thats internet passthrough to me. (Typing this while my S3 is connected via wifi, and both an iPad and Win7 laptop bleutooth tethered to my S3 using the S3 internet connection at the same time).

[Q] Reverse Tethering on SGS2

I'm looking to access PC's internet and pass it to the Phone. Is this possible for our phones?
There are a number of cheap usb wifi adapters that can double as access points.
I'm guessing you have a laptop with mobile internet?

I have wifi at home but at work, I get no signal (data or voice) and wondering if I can connect via USB. I don't have wifi at work.
Yeah they'd probably have issue with you wirelessly broadcasting their internet.
Bluetooth however would work and is cheap. And won't interfere with the network at all.
I've read else where on xda that people have gotten it to work, but the only instructions were for linux, and I got a feeling your work computer is xp.
How easy? Alot depends on the operating system and bluetooth adapter.

Issues with OS X tethering?

I just bought my S3 not too long ago and have noticed that I can't seem to tether to my MacBook Pro under OS X, but it seems to work fine under Windows. I was wondering if anyone else experienced this and if there was a fix? Loving the phone but it's really a deal breaker for me if this is a consistent issue. Thanks!

What do you mean by "tether" ? Are you trying to get network connection going through the S3 on your mac via USB tether? Or are you talking about file transfer?

Foxfi is good enough for systems where adhoc networks don't matter. The only way I have been succussful with tethering on the touch pad is with root and Wifi Tether app. Just Google it and side load it as it is not in the market. I hope that helps.
instead of using androids built in wifi settings to connect, I use "wifi analyzer". its free in google play, and allows you to see and do things that you can't using stock wifi connection settings. You can set different channels for a 5ghz as well as b/g/n 2.4ghz, as well as reconnect options etc etc. it's a nice way to see which channels are best to connect with.
Thanks,I will give that a try

Sometimes the TP doesn't see the phone, but my iPod touch, netbook and desktop see it.

try https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.hal9000.zt180_adhoc_switcher&hl=en, it's what i use to tether to my touchpro 2 phone
Not rooted atm, when I was rooted,my TP didn't see it either

just because a device is rooted does not mean it will automatically see an ad-hoc connection from another android device. ad-hoc/peer to peer connections from droid to droid are tricky and flakey alot of times or just wont work at all depending on the kernel. everyone usually thinks that tethering and hotspot are the same thing. they are not. there is a big difference between ad-hoc and infrastructure connections.
FWIW, I have zero issues tethering my TP using the stock tethering feature of my Galaxy Nexus.

+1. That was my point. Ad hoc is touch and go device to device. I had to try several combinations to get my Samsung E4GT to tether well with my TP. The OP may want to check the LG forums to see what is working with that phone.
Thanks!I'll look around.

While I don’t know much about the OPs ROM, I was simply trying to say he might want to try the built-in tethering—assuming it’s available—versus some third-party app.
I don't think stock Lucid has a built in tethering

U can't plug it in and have it work that way. U have a router? Plug desktop into router and WiFi tether like that. rofit?:
you could try pdanet, it allows for wireless usb and bluetooth and so long as you don't need ssl its free
Wait... So I can use my phone as a modem/router for my Xbox 360? No... Too good to be true. Especially after I have a WiFi adapter in the mail.
Um... Laptop, crossover cable and network bridge. Not as hard as it sounds either. You could also use a router with tomato or ddwrt and route the xbox that way lol
Yeah... Have no computer at home so... Need Mac guyver to rig me something up with an alarm clock and a crack pipe. Bam! Turns into a WiFi adapter! So awesome!
Well that sucks...Wait a minute, alarm clock and crack pipe? Stop trying to blow things up Salamanca

Hey guys,
i have a rooted s3. Yesterday i downloades the app foxfi. Its a app to connect smartphone with routet and then turn the phone into a wifi hotspot, so like a repeater. But when i try to connect with my pc to the handy in repeater mode it connects but i cant open up any sites, so i dont have intetnet connection.
Am i doing something wrong? Is there any othet way to use my s3 as a repeater? Thx in advance guys
You are asking a question in the wrong forum .
Do you have mobile data enabled?

I don't know for sure but i think that you can't get internet from wireless and at the same time use wireless tethering. If you want to tether via wireless you have to get internet from mobil data.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 4
I think it's impossible. When you in tether mode your phone using Internet connection through the mobile data.
