[Q] CM10 MMS Send/Receive Issues - Motorola Droid X2

So I've seen this issue bouncing around on the CM10 thread and thought I'd put my input in. Can't post there yet, but hopefully soon!
I haven't been able to find a workaroud/fix for the problem with receiving MMS, but I THINK I may have found a workaround for sending them. If you attach a picture/vid by using the paperclip in the icon instead of using the "share" options in the gallery/camera app, it seems to have more success. Of course, I may just be lucky....
Has anyone found a workaround for receiving?

I dont have any problems receiving MMS messages. At least not yet.

I had MMS problems when I was running CM10. I used the old GO SMS workaround and it was fine.

Thanks for the look guys. I'll give GoSMS a run and see if that fixes it.

MMS Server response error!

Ok so trying to send a picture mail/MMS. But it fails sending! giving me server response error. So I tried the setting fix posted under the development area.but still fails to send any MMS. Please help me out here! Running Leaked Stock Froyo JK6 Rom. Thanks a million!

yeah, I am also having this problem. tried almost everything. But nothing worked. I think it has something to do with the 2.2. I tried other custom roms based on the 2.2, I still get the same mms error.
Think I found a work around. Make sure the numbers in your contacts.don't have any dashes in them so say 2065551234 instead of 206-555-1234 worked for me. Works now! Try it and let me know!

^^^ this worked for me, you can also try using chompsms.
workaround solution
I had this same issue on AT&T Captivate (Samsung SGH-I897) Galaxy S phone after I updated to 2.2 (froyo).
Send as attachment
However I was able to get it to work if I went opened up a message to whomever I was sending MMS and then clicked on the options button and chose attachment and clicked on the media of my choosing. This did allow me to send successfully.
MMS Server response error - Possible Fix!
I've ready through and tried all of the "fixes" for the MMS but to no avail. However, after having read through many other sites, I discovered that it might be as simple as re-listing your contacts' phone numbers so that they are only 10-digit strings. For example: My phone number should be listed as 13032045999, not +1-303-204-5999, nor 303-204-5999, nor 303.204.5999, etc. Get it?
Try resetting the listing you're having difficulties sending an MMS or SMS to, and give it another try.
This might also help with syncing your contacts with your Gmail contacts online.

CM9 Beta, SMS Longer Than 160 Characters

When I had CM9 Beta 1.0, there was a setting that allowed SMS longer than 160 characters to be broken into multiple messages. I can't find the feature in CM9 Beta 4.2... This is buggin' me, if anyone has any solutions, that would be cool.
Thanks in advance,
I think its automatic now. I started from .2.0 and I've never had an issue like others have with SMS not splitting or sending right without split. Before replying this I sent a 5 page text to my gf's phone with no split setting set and she received the entire message split and in order it was supposed to be received.
Sent from my MB855 using XDA
I've noticed this too, cause I used it in the past and it worked perfectly, when I had the setting checked, but now every time it goes over 160 it tries to send but just ends up failing 30 seconds or so later.
This has been fixed as of .4.4. However, if you are using the inverted apps mod to get blackandcyan themed apps, that mms.apk will not split messages. And since Hello has abandoned that project, unless someone themes the new mms.apk or an older version that has the option to split messages you are better off using go SMS with a nice ice theme. Sad stuff, I know.
Are you sure its been fixed? I'm using 4.4 now and it still won't send more than 160 without failing. And I can't find it in the settings

There has got to be something being done wrong somewhere.. I am running .4.4 and It still sends just fine. Never had an issue sense using cm9 from .2.0 there was an old apn trick for fixing mms issues awhile back that has sense been revised. The new method is completely different than what the original method was like and I think that might be causing issues as well. But I'm not sure. All I know is that mine works great and the only thing different I didn't outside of flashing cm9 was changing the apn settings
Sent from my MB855 using XDA
I'm not sure that .4.4 is what fixed it I just know that once I flashed from .4.2 it was suddenly working. Then after flashing the the inverted apps it was borked again. As far as the apn thing is concerned, I can tell you exactly what I did to retain split messaging (without using inverted apps). It might work for ya... Use the first apn fix method within the cm9 fixes thread. As the thread states, put the file in version 3.1. Wipe everything as per usual when doing a clean install, flash the now modded 3.1 zip. Boot into cm9, reboot to recovery, wipe dalv and cache, flash .4.4. Everything should be peachy.
Or go SMS or hand cent or any third party SMS app. They have always worked flawlessly on the cm9 builds. What may of happened when ur borked was flashing over the original stock apk with the modified one. The fix was most likely in the stock apk itself. Either way just like the camera you can't go wrong with a third party app

Messaging BIG Problem (Ridiculous)

Hi, This is my first post and i need help, I was texting with my new phone (SGS3) in the stock messaging app, and i wrote an SMS (4 Pages) and suddenly the SMS was automatically converted to MMS, and there is no option to disable this horrible and ridiculous feature, and theres also no option to turn it off! So how can this be possible? Such an expenssive phone, and you cant even write freely an SMS??? Why is there a limit of 3 pages? I was wondering if someone could do a MOD to fix this! I had the same problem with the galaxy note, and there was a little mod that could fix that, so i think im not the only one that want this fixed! (i dont like custom ROMS or anything like that, and i dont like apps like GoSMS, or stuff like that, i just like the stock messaging app, but with the fix) i just want PLEASE a little mod to fix this BIG problem. (Sorry for my english)
Sms are limited to 160 characters. Otherwise it has to be sent as an Mms.

Thats not what i asked for, i mean.. im coming from an iphone 4s and that never happened, in fact it never happened to me in all the phones i have had!! So, i dont see the point of converting an SMS automatically to MMS just because i write more than 3 pages, thats just ridiculous But the thing is, that i would like to know if someone could do a MOD for the stock messaging app to fix that and make it without characters restrictions! To explain it better this is what i want for my phone: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1371755
no one texts anymore, use whatsapp or some sort of instant messaging

i'm pretty sure that's not how it works, SMS longer than 160 characters get sent as multiple SMS which then then recombined back into one sms on the recipients phone. I've had the issue before when one part of a multi SMS message was delayed causing me to have the first or second half only and when the other one arrived sometime later the phone still knew to combined them together.
MMS is only when you attach a picture, video or voice clip to the message.
I have just tested what the OP has said and its true, if you type a long SMS, after the 3rd set of 260 characters, (there is a counter just above the send icon) it then gets converted to a MMS
But to the OP, I do wonder why you would want to type such a long SMS on a regular basis? you can also just send the sms at 3 pages then send a new one.
Can't you just send after every two pages. Yeah, it cost more but it will solve your issue.

Sms are limited to 160 characters (Per Page), And when you write more than 3 Pages, it will automatically convert your SMS to MMS without asking or option to disable, it will just convert it to MMS. (it will convert it even if you dont attach ANYTHING, Even if it just based on text)
Use Go sms... But this is stupid...
S3 shouldn't do that...
Lol at the Wattsapp suggestions

Wow I just realised that there is no option to cancel this 'feature' after I read your thread.
I do hope this is resolved since for those on Payandgo networks, like me, MMS isn't always free whereas practically even mobile plan has free SMS. Defeats the objective here, you can send very long SMS texts (counts as more than 1 but still sends fine) from other phones no problem. On the galaxy nexus it was possible to disable this SMStoMMS converting problem easily, I hope the devs come up with a workaround..

Who still has data rates for SMS and MMS? I thought this stuff was free now? In Australia SMS for free is pretty much standard and most plans have at least $500 of credit included, an MMS costs max 0.50c, is this seriously an issue? Just use a different messegeing ap or use an instant messenger.

Guys, am I right in saying that this was always a problem with stock messaging app? Hence most custom ROMs have a modded 'No MMS convert' message app? I remember this limitation on my stock SGS2 back in the day - dont remember this ever happening to me after custom roms.... or maybe I never sent over 3 pages.......
I just tried Texting over 311 characters from my SGS2 to my SGS3 and them back..........No MMS converting.... One whole page too....
Therefore this is not a problem with custom ROMs...

You can install gosms which have more options to configure or install the mod to deactivate that problem...

Try using Handcent SMS app. It has that specific option to prevent auto converting to MMS.

Convert long SMS to MMS

Hi everybody:
I'll start with the tl;dr - CM9 & 10 aren't handling long SMS's the way I am wanting them to; stock is.
Long version:
I've found something strange with trying to upgrade to CM9/10 to deal with long SMS's, and I'm wondering if it's just me, it's something that has been overlooked, or it just is what it is.
I only really text with one person: my wife.
With the stock Samsung ROM, I have no problems whatsoever: short messages, long message, images, whatever....it's all good. I can use Go SMS or Handcent, and both work exactly the same (how I know this: my wife doesn't complain about my messages.)
When I tried installing CM9 (and 10...though I had different things happen in both versions), I have some issues. Short SMS work fine. Long SMS...not so much. In the stock SMS app, it splits the SMS up into different messages (1/2, 2/2...). Personally, I don't have a problem with this, but the wife...not so much. She likes the messages to be all in one, without it being split up. So, to promote marital harmony, I tried both Go SMS and Handcent here. Handcent seems to do the same as stock: splits the message. Go SMS...it reports delivery failure, but only the first part of the message gets sent out. (In CM10, stock still did split messages, and one of the other two did as well, while the other did not send at all. I don't remember which was which, though...)
I know most people prefer the split SMS rather than the conversion to MMS...but, to promote marital harmony, I need that conversion. It works fine in stock, no matter which program. It doesn't work at all in CM9/10, no matter which program.
Any ideas?
SMS = short message service and by network rules is limited to 160 characters, so anything more will be split. Sms is send through GPRS like voice.
MMS = multimedia message service and is sent through your cellular data connection, so it doesn't have a length rule, but pictures ,music, and videos are limited in size.
There probably isn't a crossover option, as they are different for different purposes.
Does CM have the option in the message settings menu to control message splitting ?
It used to anyway....g
In the past att didn't spit long message when testing another att person. They still don't. All the JB roms don't have what ever it takes to sent long text. To make this short, no matter what you do right now, you can't send long text as far as I know. There is an app on the market called long text, I think. Have not tried it though.

What rom are you on? If its a jellybean rom when at the messaging all menu--->settings---> scroll all the way down to a option that reads convert SMS to MMS and check of the box.. works great ! Hope that helps
EDIT: Almost forgot just below that is the option to set how many messages before it converts to MMS default is at 3

XT912 on CM10.1 RC1 MMS issue

I've been looking around on the dev forum for this and haven't found a solution yet. My MMS seems to be broken, but from what I can gather, other people have no problem with it. I've tried three clean installs and still haven't had any luck. On the last clean install, I even cleared out the ROM slot and made a new one (still ROM slot one). GoSMS can send my MMS and group messages, but I much prefer the stock app. What is so different about the way that MMS gets processed through GoSMS that it can handle MMS even when the regular MMS.apk is broken. Has anyone else had this issue and if so, did you find a solution to fix it?

I just noticed today that I can't receive, or send, pics after almost a month on the the stable release of cm-10.1.2. I had no problems before. I restarted the phone and cleared the messaging app cache, but it's still broke. That's when I came out to XDA to search for a solution. I found your post, but no solution so far.
