Works good for Android...I'm not far from Annapolis and travel through DC often.

Have you seen any LTE yet?
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app

Nope but I don't check much through the city too much, as I'm driving.
Still waiting...
but fear not, Sprint sent me a flyer touting coverage. :silly:

Good to know, hope you see it soon. How about non-lte data speeds?
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app

I'm mostly on WIFI. When on 3G, it's not horrible but could certainly be better.
IIRC, NoVa ~ 1M down last check indoors. MD, using Baltimore server, was lower.

Cool thanks for the info.

No problem.
Really the coverage areas are a wildcard. Yeehaw.
Good luck.

When coverage isn't the best just roam haha using a force roam mod believe sprint 3g could be better and LTE is pretty dang good when it comes to wherever you are

Generally Sprint's coverage is pretty good. From my experience, where I live in Coastal NC, it's as good at AT&T or even better. Their coverage is getting better all the time too. Google "network vision" and you can read about it. They are doing a TON to upgrade their current towers to enhance 3g speeds and voice capabilities as well as building new towers all the time. From my experiences the new 3G speeds they are upgrading to is faster than Verizon's 3G speeds.
You can check out sprint.com/network to see some of the upgrades they are doing to the towers in your area.

Where are you located? Do you experience lost calls?
I live in central jersey... And I don't really make phone calls to know but while texting or Web browsing I just lose signal
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
It could be network upgrades.
I have been having the same issue here in Salt Lake. The Sprint store tells me it is tower upgrades in my area. I take that with a grain or 2000 of salt but it may be true.
Carrier?
On AT&T you can have signal drop if you use a non 4g apn in a 4g area.
You can put your location in here, https://network.sprint.com/ and see if there's any upgrades in the next 6 months. It's entirely possible.
Yeah I'm on sprint... I'm about to go to a sprint store and hopefully they get me a new one and it's better cause I can't even enjoy my phone like this... My galaxy s 2 didn't have this problem so idk if it's the network

I'm around the same area. Still no LTE here, but I do get it further east in the Richardson area. My understanding is that this is just part of the process as Sprint rolls out LTE across DFW. I can't find a link to the article, but I read that it should be mostly completed around here by the end of August, early September. I'll look around for the article.

Sprint's LTE is at 10% as of right now. It's "supposed" to be completed by the end of the year...says a sprint rep.

I go all over the dfw area for work. It's very spotty to say the least. What's crazy is the fastest 4g I've experienced was about 4 miles west of Gainesville.

Also see the Dallas thread in general. Lots of discussion there

Where is the Dallas thread. I searched and did not find it. I had lte shortly off of 131 and MacArthur near lewsville. Around midnight or so. Showed up as 4g. It was.nice. but oh well. Wonder if I can get some sort of credit for not being able to use my phones lte. If not oh well

Choosing which tower to use

Is there anyway to force your phone to use a certain tower? I'm on an train near DC and an connected to a tower in Houston TX... Getting better speeds than when I'm home and am connected to Nearest server. I'm mobile and haven't been able to find this in answers. I connected to a closet tower and had mediocre speeds. Thus Houston tower is earl over 1000 Mikes away and is very impressive
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
Its not connected to a tower in texas.
Use opensignal maps. Itll show you what tower your connected to.
If you were able to get a signal from a tower in Texas from across the country there would never be roaming.
I had to double take on the OP. Just curious but what are you using that says you're connected to a tower in Houston, TX?
Maybe he is talking about the SID?
Sent from my EVO using xda app-developers app
Sorry I tried to attach screen shot but it said I can't I'm not sure why. using speed test, it scans for towers and lets you pick one. Normally I only get choice of towers that are near. I'll try again to post the screen shot

Ahhh that means that you're doing your speedtest from a server in houston texas It has nothing to do with your sprint signal

Jesus... Anyways, click on tools, should be able to figure it out from there..

4g question

Thinking of upgrading to this phone and was wondering if the whole thing with the phone not picking up Wimax is software based or something with the hardware. I'm in Saint Louis, MO and it doesn't look like we are getting LTE from sprint anytime soon.

LTE only
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
Thanks for the response but that did not answer the initial question of whether this is software or hardware issues as to why.

Yes and not to sound indignant but the way I worded the question the knowledge that the phone only picks up LTE is already there. I was asking why that is and if it was a software or hardware issue, not for clarification on the type of network the phone can use.

Thanks for the link.
Sent from my PG06100 using xda app-developers app
No problem. Reading back over this thread, are you wanting to know about the LTE connectivity issue, or why an LTE phone won't work on Wimax?
Sent using my HTC EVO LTE and a magic wand
Wanting to know exactly why, if it is a software issue there may be a work around, if it is hardware then obviously there is nothing to be done.

Wimax and LTE are two different types of 4G, and they operate on different frequencies, therefore they aren't compatible with one another. As far as the LTE connectivity issue that many EVO LTE users have complained about, it's not entirely known whether it's a hardware issue, software issue, or both. The thread I provided you the link to above deals with the connectivity issue.
Sent using my HTC EVO LTE and a magic wand
Wimax support requires an entirely different radio chip inside the phone, which the EVO 4G LTE does not have (one of the main reasons being battery life). It will never have Wimax support.
So it is hardware then. Buying the phone next weekend anyways, the 3g speeds here in St Louis aren't that terrible until you go inside a building. Thanks for that confirmation.

T-Mobile LTE already in Kansas City!

Was just heading to oak park mall and noticed I have 4G LTE. I figured it was a fluke but here's my speed test results.

We will get LTE with tmobile on the i717.........i thought att and tmobile used diffrent lte bands???
Sent from my SGH-T879 using Tapatalk 2
Yeah I'm using stock ROM rooted with stock modem. I'm pretty sure T-Mobile is using 1900mhz for LTE and ATT uses 1700. Really digging the late though. Download and upload isn't a big concern but the ping has dropped to about half of what it was. Very happy with T-Mobile. I think the lte will spread quickly like their 4G did.

T-Mobile doesn't use 1900Mhz for LTE, only AWS 1700Mhz.
Regardless the i717 doesn't support LTE over 1900Mhz.

Oh wow this is awesome!!!! Could you please get into your ServiceMode (dial *#0011#) and take a screenshot of your ServiceMode?
Did you change any of your APN settings in order to access LTE or you're running default epc.tmobile.com ?
Thanks!
I'll post a picture of it in service mode around 5pm. I'm at work right now and LTE isnt coming through the building very well. Also to answer your APN question I am indeed running the stock epc.tmobile.com. also thanks for clearing up the frequency bands ok both networks I wasn't quite sure.

I like the techie stuff. For instance, in that screenshot I can see that they're using Band 4 (AWS 1700/2100Mhz), LTE bandwidth is 5Mhz which tells me that the maximum possible download/upload speeds are 37mbps down / 12mbps up in that particular market, EARFCN 2175 means that they're using C block of the AWS spectrum which is 10Mhz slice (5Mhz used for downlink, and 5mhz for uplink).
Most consumers don't care about this kinda stuff, but I do
Thanks again!
