4g question - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

Thinking of upgrading to this phone and was wondering if the whole thing with the phone not picking up Wimax is software based or something with the hardware. I'm in Saint Louis, MO and it doesn't look like we are getting LTE from sprint anytime soon.

LTE only

Thanks for the response but that did not answer the initial question of whether this is software or hardware issues as to why.

Yes and not to sound indignant but the way I worded the question the knowledge that the phone only picks up LTE is already there. I was asking why that is and if it was a software or hardware issue, not for clarification on the type of network the phone can use.

Thanks for the link.

No problem. Reading back over this thread, are you wanting to know about the LTE connectivity issue, or why an LTE phone won't work on Wimax?

Wanting to know exactly why, if it is a software issue there may be a work around, if it is hardware then obviously there is nothing to be done.

Wimax and LTE are two different types of 4G, and they operate on different frequencies, therefore they aren't compatible with one another. As far as the LTE connectivity issue that many EVO LTE users have complained about, it's not entirely known whether it's a hardware issue, software issue, or both. The thread I provided you the link to above deals with the connectivity issue.

Wimax support requires an entirely different radio chip inside the phone, which the EVO 4G LTE does not have (one of the main reasons being battery life). It will never have Wimax support.

So it is hardware then. Buying the phone next weekend anyways, the 3g speeds here in St Louis aren't that terrible until you go inside a building. Thanks for that confirmation.

3g to 4g

Is there any way to convert 3g to 4g or is a hardware related? thanks
there is no way to get our phones to work with the actual 4g. the hardware in our phones wasn't built to support those speeds.
Its hardware based, you can't.
thanks for your information.

Lol, I know what he "thinks" 4g is, and so do some people on the 3g vibrant section.
The "H" mod that is included with roms is NOT 4g speeds, but you are connected to hspa (or whatever the accurate acronym is) but you're still limited to the Max speed the hardware in your phone supports. Period.

MoPho GSM question

Does the GSM radio help when roaming in the US? Was thinking of getting this phone for my wife since Sprint reception is horrible were she works. Also how is the battery life?
Was hoping for a non root answer as she will not want me to root it. She, for some reason, doesn't enjoy when things don't always work.

GSM will not help in u.s. however it has the best reception of any sprint phone I've used. Battery will last all day.

No evo 4g lte forum yet?

I would love to see one since the phone is 10 days from release. SGS3 has a forum and is further from release.
TIA

I concur

I am sure it will get one soon enough. Remember that XDA mainly focuses on GSM devices. This has only been the case. Give it time and I am sure it will get one in time.

Just give it time. It will be done with the Admins think it is time.
Also there is a spot for asking for new forums

S3 LTE ??

I have the sprint S 3 but there's no 4gLTE in my area, would I be able to get the international version and use that on the sprint network? Cause lte is the reason you can't use the quad core right?

The international version doesn't have CDMA radios.
Lte will be rolling through the country later on. Get the quad if you don't want to wait til that happens

No no no, it won't work. Sprint uses CDMA radios, the international has GSM radios. You misunderstood.
Sprint is cdma but LTE is GSM technology. Just to complicate things.....

I so agree with you!!! I want to go to ATT or TMobile because they're GSM Networks but Sprint is giving me a crazy deal that I could never drop.

In much of the US CDMA coverage is superior to GSM coverage. I almost never do not have at least CDMA for voice. When I was with ATT on a GSM phone that was definitely not the case.
Well maybe TMobile is better. I find with Sprint. I only get service in about 60% of the places I go

HTC downfall

It's sad to see HTC in the news not doing well financially when they create amazing phones!

HTC has kinda done it to themselves. They have seriously slacked on support, updates and source. They make it a PITA for the dev community..
Not to mention releasing phones like the LTE with terrible wifi glitches, weather widget always reporting 80 degrees with thunderstorms, random 3g drops. They just aren't what they used to be.

I agree to an extent.
BUT
I'm at work all the time with my buddy who has his S3, which also has it's issues...but my signal will start going retarded while he's steady browsing Facebook. I like this phone, but I'm also not gonna ignore the obvious issues it has.
