[Q] Any experience with switching between different mail clients? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All,
I've got 4 IMAP accounts that support IDLE (push email) and I use Kaiten Mail to check them. As an addition, I have one gmail (apps) syncing for work. Naturally, keiten mail is the top app that wakes the phone.
I've been thinking to maybe move all these accounts to gmail (or apps) since the latest versions of gmail do all I need from an email client on the phone and I was wondering if it will reduce the time spent in syncing wakelocks.
It does seem a no-brainer to me but before I start moving my GBs from one server to another I though that maybe xda community has some insights to share?
Thanks everyone in advance!

Syncing non exchange/google calendar i.e. Imap Calendar with Hero cal app

Hi,
I have recently bought a HTC Hero in India and its simply awesome. For last 10 days i am going through various forums/posts online to find the best apps & workarounds for my phone.
The company I work for does not use Microsoft exchange server for mails/calendar instead uses its own imap server for mails/calendar.
I was wondering if any such app is available which can read my calendar events from that server and sync it to my phone calendar.
For mails, i am able to use IMAP/POP3 syncing capabilities of my phone.
Thanks a lot,
Akhil

Looking for email\contacts\calendar package

Hi all,
I am looking for a email\contacts\calendar package. My primary requirement along this front is that I need access to two Exchange acounts (each on a different Exchange server, one of which is my own).
Moxier mail, I thought, would fit the bill - but it will not do multiple accounts unfortuantely.
Touchdown, apparently, will do multiple accounts - but each account must be in its own profile, and you can only have one profile working at a time.
Any other suggestions?
George
Well for email I have been using K-9 Mail it is a really a pretty powerful email client that is completely free.
For calendar I use Clearsync's Android App. It is a pay for calendar service that has a focus on security but also being able to share.
Both programs can access exchange/outlook.
Moxier works very well and has exchange support.

modembug: Moxier does work well, however - I did say I required multiple account support, which it does not have.

[Q] which email app do you use and why please.?

Please as title states, which email app do you guys prefer, on the sg2, and why please. I want to be able to use gmail, so jus want to findout what you guys are using, to receive or send your gmail emails. I also want the option to schedule the sync, so your input very much required.
I use the stock Gmail app for my gmail. gmail isn't my primary account so not bothered by any failings, etc.
I use K9 for my main non-gmail personal account. Am very happy with it, can schedule timings and specify a quiet time, when I don't want to be distured by email notifications (i.e. when I'm asleep).

I use gmail and have set it (via the web app) to collect hotmail and another pop3 account, so it's perfect for me as I have all emails in 1 app, and I do like the gmail app!

Apologies for the delayed reply.
I think it's as follows:
Menu --> More --> Settings --> Account Settings --> Fetching Mail:
"Folder Poll Frequency".
Also under the above and within --> Advanced:
"Refresh IDLE connection".
I "think" that's what you're after... to be honest mine has always just worked.
Hope it helps!
i like samsung's email app. Only thing i cant figure out is how to put it to push.
I tried the Samsung E-Mail app but it really pissed me off more and more. You can hardly make any settings, just specify how many mails to load (timeframe) and how often to update, that's about it. the funtionality and look are standard.
I switched to K9 mail again and instantly remembered why I always came back to that app. Not only does my Push work flawlessly for both accounts (one business, one private that collects) without any "premium" account hassle making use of that annoying social hub, but I can specify all sorts of settings like how much data to transfer by default per mail, to load images, and many many more.

to make push work you have to set your mail account as an imap account. to do so you need to make it a premium account which leads you to samsung collecting your mails via the social hub ... I'd recommend k9 mail. looks the same, and you can make almost any necessary setting.
The stock Gmail app does everything I could ask for
I switched to EnhancedEmail when I used to have a DHD as the stock email client didn't sync contacts and calendars probably.
Enhanced did all the syncing perfectly, however, it just did not allow Exchange accout contacts to be created or added (i dont really know if the stock email client had the same problem or not).
With the SGS2, i used EnhancedEmail first, but recently switched to the stock samsung email client - it seems to work flawlessly, albeit, with the limitations to customisations stated by others. I use Exchange (both my my company email and hotmail) on Push, and at that, it is good enough for my usage.

Plus the stock mail app draines more battery then k9 due to being more active or active in the wrong way I don't know, but there is a big difference, at least on my phone.

GMAIL and MS Exchange simultaneously sync

Hello guys,
I have a common quesiton about synchronising my gmail and Exchange (work) account with my HTC Desire HD Android Version 2.3.5
At the moment I synchronise my gmail accoutn with mail, calender, tasks and phone directory.
For future use I want to synchronise with Exchange from work, even the same functions like gmail.
For gmail I use the given gmail-mail program which is implemented with Android.
For Exchange I'd like to use the "Mail" function which is also a standard tool from Android.
My question:
1. I've seen that there is the possibility to show or not show different calenders, phone books etc. When I creat the Exchange additionally to the gmail account, is there a complete new calender built with the Exchange rules or does it use my gmail calender? The same for phone directory.
I want to avoid that the two accounts will be fully mashed in the future. So, if I quit my workplace I want to delete the Exchange account and all work information will be lost but not my personal gmail account, settings and personal data like calender, phone directory etc.
2. Is the Exchange completely separated to the gmail account?
I'm a littel bit frightend to configure the Exchange accoutn because I don' want to mix up the two accounts.
I hope I wrote it in a understandable way and not redundant to an existing article.
Thanks a lot and regards
The email app and the gmail app are different, are independent one of the other. You'll have no problem, nor with the contacts.

[Q] Samsung email for exchange and battery

Hello all,
I'm posting this after having researched online and having found nothing concrete regarding the topic. I had setup my google apps for work as an exchange account on my S6 edge via the stock email app. I had set the sync for automatic and also opted to sync up to 3 days of emails. I didn't ask the app to sync anything else. By evening, the phone was down to 45% battery with email sync accounting for 15% of the drain!
I know there may be people that suggest to use another app and/ or to setup the google apps for work as a normal gmail account. I have already done this but the speed of the push service isn't that great as that on exchange. In exchange it's instantaneous but as a normal gmail id the push is quite delayed. Coming from iOS, I have used the exchange server settings on the Apple Mail app and it was wonderful with emails pushed instantaneously yet not denting the battery much.
Is there any solution to the battery drain problem on exchange servers? Really appreciate it.
