Need questions answered! - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

First some background:
OG HTC Evo 4G
I'm rooted running masons latest kernel.
TeamDIRT RemICS UX JB ROM
Now what I'm wanting to know as I want to share the info behind what I've found but need help digging into this phone to share it.
My service from sprint was shut off. So I installed Gvoice to try to make calls via WiFi. Also in "Mobile Networks" a 3rd option showed up "Affiliated Network". Since selecting that I'm able to make Free calls. With out being on WiFi. Signal strength is fantastic and call quality is perfect everywhere. I'm not able to receive calls but I will know if im in WiFi range if someone calls via Gvoice VM.
So what is needed to get the info from my phone to share with the community?
What apps do I need?

Voice calls maybe???

Just curious but have any of you that own it overseas able to use Google voice or the like to make calls? Very interested if its possible

I'm pretty sure the only way you would be able to do that is if you used Skype to make and recieve all your calls. You would have to get a Skype number, then pay the $2.99 for unlimited U.S. calling. More conveniently you could port your cell number to Google Voice and then have that number ring your Skype number. Whenever you left the house you would just have to make sure 3G was on (so you would have to get it from Sprint). Also the mic on it is pretty bad from what reviewers are saying, so you would need a bluetooth headset.
Edit: Forgot to point out Google voice won't make calls over 3G, hence why you would need Skype.
Edit 2: And of course the battery is very good so it makes this setup very possible.
Please help
Very imp. for me; just to make sure, i own a samsung galaxy tab and i want to switch to the flyer, does it work as a cell phone like the galaxy? or not?
I don't have a Flyer, but it was mentioned multiple times that there is no such gsm voice functionality: you can only talk via Skype. Also, the leaked manual didn't mention voice via gsm, but sms/mms connectivity is available. Now's the question: can somebody patch voice into a Rom?

[Q] Use of Wifi to send SMS text and Data.

Is there anyone who is working on using a app to make all sms messages and data while on Wifi at home or work. I live in a town with not so great signal so im always on wifi but i still need signal to send and recieve messages calls.
I was wondering if it was possible to do this with a app or mod the rom to function this way.
That way i may also end the Radio Interference Shortage i see all to much do to from what i can figure is the phone bouncing on and off sprints network to roaming so often. ( seems to be worse on wifi.)
If you use the Google voice integration, it only sends over data connection.
Thanks for the info i just was reading about that. But looks like the only option.

personally, i have been using google voice for two years now and it was worked very well. when i have low cell signal but have good wifi or 4g, i open up the app and text.
if i have low wifi/4g signal but good cell signal, i text from the built in message app using SMS.
as a possible alternative, i've seen a new app being promoted, DeskSMS, from koush (ROM Manager developer). i haven't used it personally, but the main idea is to congregate all your text messages into one location so you can access from all devices. if you want to research more on DeskSMS, there is a lifehacker article reviewing it, here is a lifehacker article on it and the android market page.
edit: an airave is definitely a decent alternative if you're on sprint and need better service on one specific location. the OP posted his whole town has signal issues both at his work and at home and specifically questioned any apps be available to help handle better sms communication. an airave could solve your signal issues at home and at work, but is location dependent. i was able to get an airave from sprint for my home location at no charge due to our long tenure as a sprint customer.
hope that helps!
sounds like you may want to look into getting an airave, its a device that you hook up to your home internet that broadcasts service up to 1000ft from the unit..
Kind of like a wifi router but for EVDO

[Q] Network extender

Does anyone know how to get a network extender to work with cm7dx2 or eclipse 1.0.4? When you make a call you shoult hear 2 tones saying that your connected to it, it is not doing that since i put either of these roms on my dx2. I've tried #48 but is says the feature update could not be completed. I do know when i was on stock, the phone did connect to it. any sugestions? Thanks.
John
You might want to reprogram the phone. Dial *228 and select option 2. After it's done dial *228 again and select option 3 to update your roaming database.
tried that and it still isnt working. I'm going back to stock later to see if it will connect to it.
My extender world with CM7X2 no problem. Now one thing I was explained if you were an Altel convert you had to use a hybrid PRL to make it work.

always been with verizon. I placed a call with support, and still waiting for the tech to call my phone instead of my wifes phone since she isnt home during the day. The tech cant seem to call the number i give him in his voice mail. He said in the voicemail that they didnt see any errors in the extendor. I just want to get this working.
I have a problem with my wife's Droid 3 just sucking in general. They will have to send a field engineer out to look at the surrounding signal before they will offer to give you a new extender

[Q] wifi calling unlocked note on tmobile?

ok so i bought this phone and it's delightful. I dont get the speeds i would normally get on a native tmobile 4g phone, but most of the time i'm either working or at home so wifi is always available
however, i've recently moved into a new apartment with my fiance and i only get about 1 bar of reception in my bedroom, and pretty much no bars in my living room and bathroom. Unfortunately, it dosen't appear as though this phone has any native wifi calling, and was wondering if anybody had some sort of resolution for this?
Yes i thought of some of the other apps out there but what i dont like is the fact that i either have to subscribe a new number, or there are advertisements before ringing, or how i have to disable an app when i go out because my data connection isn't as fast as a native tmobile 4g, so im kind of in a bind... i really love the phone and would prefer to keep using it, i just wish that i had something that would be able to run as smoothly as any of my previous tmobile android phones...
anyways i know it's probably asking for alot, but if someone has a solution, please let me know, i tried searching but i didn't come up with much
This would be awesome.

I would like to recommend this:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...ch_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDEsImNvbS5ndm9pcCJd
It will do everything you are wanting, plus you can make calls and save your minuets even if you have service, if your in an area where your data is fast enough. It integrates with the phone well and even uses the built in dialer.
I bought this app back when i got my first tablet that didn't even have cell capabilities and I've used it on various devices since. i think you will find the call quality is excellent.

Ok, this is like 99% of what i want, i just want people to call my NATIVE phone number to call me when im on wifi.
I dont want to hand out an alternative number, that's my biggest issue at the moment
for example:
if my family is in an accident, and they have my native number listed in their emergency contact, and they try calling, then that could be rather bad...
but yea, if you have any other ideas, i'm all open to it
When you set up your Google Voice number, you put your "native" number in google voice, when someone calls it, your google voice number will ring, the person calling is not aware of your real number... i'll give my google voice number out... 731-412-0080. When you call it, it automatically rings my house and my cellphone and which ever one i pick up on, you will have no clue, all that matters is when you call my google voice number you get me, I have several forwarding filters set up...
You would simply set up your native number calls forward to your Google voice automatically.
So If your native number was 555-121-1234 and I called it, I would be silently fowarded to your GV number and your cell would ring... (google voice it's self is completely free) go here to see: https://www.google.com/voice

I use google voice on that app but the call quality is not decent at all. Ive only used it on wifi and its terrible. Voce gets distored some lag, and even some echoing.
ok so here was my ultimate solution
got the app that was mentioned and also got tasker
i set it so that whenever i would enter my home wireless network exclusively, tasker would make my phone forward calls to my google voice number, which in turn forwarded the calls to my app =)
also set it so that when i leave my network, it would automatically disengage the ipgroove app, so all in all i gotta say it worked out ok, thanks!
I use groove ip

if anyone chooses to go this route and there's no wifi calling app in the future, just let me know, it was a wonderful way to get to do what i needed to do, and with the help of tasker, it will auto engage/disengage features, almost as if we did have the native wifi calling feature that the s2 has, but yea, i'd be glad to help anytime =)
Taking up on technologia's offer to help
@tekhnologia: When you are at home connected via wifi, are you forwarding your t-mobile number to your google voice number (perhaps using "conditional call forwarding")?
Otherwise, I think I more or less understand your setup, but a brief list of steps would be awesome!
Thanks for the offer to help.

How to specify a specific app to always use 4G/data even when on Wi-fi?

For example, I use Talkatone or Sipdroid for my phone calls so I don't want these apps to get briefly disconnected when i connect to a wifi network because i may miss an incoming call. Plus, since voice calls use such little data and I'm almost always have strong 4g signal, it seems like it would make sense to just keep calls on 4g all the time. It's also annoying if i'm at home in a call over wifi and need to go somewhere, then i have to call the person back.
Any ideas? I'm using an un-rooted Galaxy S3 t-mobile currently, but will probably root in the future if absolutely needed when i have the time to mess around with that (and when i'm not absolutely depending on this phone to be fully working following day).
Anyone? I've recently rooted my t-mobile s3. running stock rom.
