Seriously, this home button issue is driving me crazy. Is it really quite an isolated occurrence? And where is all the info on it?
I'm talking about the home button not working on JB roms. Well so far i've tried CM10 and PA. Apparently FJ made his 2.3.1 alt kernel to fix this issue. But unless i'm crazy, searching finds me almost zero info on this issue, other than 1 or 2 posts indicating his alt kernel fixes the issue. i found 1 post indicating that this is an isolated (potentially hardware) issue.
Am I missing threads? Am I one out of 1000's that have this issue?
Please, if I could be pointed to information about this, I'd greatly appreciate it.

your not the only one it happens to me to my home button always stop working only fix for me is to flash FJ alt kernel
sent from my lovely phone....hmmm wait its a tablet...waaa i dont really know.....im PARANOID NoW!
Do you mean, the "home button" doesn't take you to your home screen? Or some other short cut on long press?
Mine works just fine on AOKP JB.

Never experienced any home button issues.... must be some phone specific issues like some of the other problems some people report. Flashed many roms and never seen this. I always load Apex and remap my home button to launch my app drawer. I don't like having the app drawer icon on my home screen.
Ever since jb the home button is fully unresponsive... though occasionally working with a cold phone... unless using fj kernel

This is a known bug with JB ....
We have a fix .....thanks to Flappjaxxxx....
Just upgrade to his kernel and your good.
Jelly is still a port after all.....and until we see a true I717 updated JB kernel for the note 1, we will continue to have ghosts in the machine ....g

Interesting. Its never affected me...ever. Used to run Flaps builds and now on PA 2.5 CM10. No issues with any of the buttons.
OP, If you go back to stock does it work?

It's like every other bug ...
Not everybody gets it....g
Ive been having this issue too. Menu and home buttons do not work unless the flapjaxxxx kernel is flashed.
Newer builds of CM10 if i flash it than flash that alt kernel my phone turns on and i just get a black screen and no response.
Some roms this kernel works whit some it doesnt.

2.3.1 Alt by FJ - can be found at goo.im - just do a search for flappjaxxx under devs and drill down until you hit kernel and you will find what you seek.
I have the kernel, is just I can't find much info about it.
now things are getting worse. I'm on paranoid android now, with the alt kernel. all buttons work, except the rom couldn't be worse. super laggy, loads of random reboots, freezes very often. been on this rom for about a week. have those of you with the home button issue experienced other issues like mine?? what am I supposed to do? is there any jb rom that those of you with home button functionality issues have tried that work fine? or do I need to go back to ics? and yes, I've been flashing everything properly and my phone had always run well prior to jb

Same issue. It's a hit or miss so far. My colleague had no issue with the home button on his Note but I can't get mine to work consistently at all. Same ROM (aokp milestone) and same kernel (king kanger one version 12). Frustrating indeed.
it just makes no sense since these issues were never around before. I wonder if it had to do with install software or method

Is there a way to have them show up just like they do on the Galaxy Nexus?
I had the same issues with the home button on a couple of the roms. What solved it for me was Padawan 4.
Wiped to factory and flashed Padawan, then flashed gapps right after while still in cwm.
Booted it up first, then flash blaze modem after the initial boot up.
Hope this helps

Update! A reflash to milestone 1 without the king kanger kernel did the trick. :-/
Update: Nope. Nevermind. False alarm. Broken. Back to using the navigation bar.
I had this on random occasions and have noticed the lock screen sound when home button malfunctions. I happened to be able to resolve the issue by turning on and off screen lock.

First of all let me just say thank you to anyone and everyone in this community that does all this complicated hard work for us that I could never understand, and reaches out to help people like me
Hello everyone. I have scoured the WIUI thread and haven't found anyone with my issue. I am trying out WIUI 2.2.17 Stable (GB) v4 and all is good, except my back button wasn't working, so I thought maybe it was a kernel issue, so I reflashed Siyah 2.6.12 and now my back button works, but my HOME button doesn't?!
I noticed on the thread everyone's XDA app signs their posts
"Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium"
Is this simply because the ROM is a port from the I9100 ROM? Or is this ROM actually not intended for my SGH-i777?
If it is intended for my phone, is there a fix for the home button not working?

If the rom has been ported professionally, then the home button not working is a glitch. If it is hellraised, try repeating the process (wiping, installing) and see if that fixes it. (One explanation for the signature could be because of the hellraising/it thinks it is a i9100)

This only happens to me when I'm trying to use my phone while it is plugged in and charging. It acts all crazy, but once I unplug it the thing works fine. I pretty much keep my phone in ECO mode and haven't switched that off to see if it makes a difference.
Same here. I keep my phone on ECO mode and have no issues with responsiveness, except for once in a while when it's plugged in and charging.

I DO have that problem with mine. I am unlocked, rooted and running nottach's Base ROM the problem has reoccurred with the stock ROM and versions 0.5, 0.6.5 and 0.7.3 .
It's probably a kernel-level memory or CPU issue because for most people it appears to be a specifically time-based problem. The longer your uptime is, the worse the problem gets. Reboot your phone and the problem goes away for awhile.

I've edited your post. This is a great example of the same phone, running a similar set up behaving completely different. The user you quoted wasn't doing anything other than stating that they don't have this problem so chill out a little and accept that each person can have a different experience and opinion. If you've got nothing useful to say, say nothing.

Ive been noticing a small issue with CM 10.1 on my GS3.
Also before anyone berates me on the fact that it's a nightly and there's not a stable build yet, I know this and it's not needed.
My home button seems to always open up my recent apps and not going home.
Wanted to know if anyone has had this issue or know of a fix for it.

Known issue, I have it as well. Not sure if/when it will be fixed. Only workaround I know of is to reboot. It will happen again later, not exactly sure what the cause is though.

as someone was pressing as a crazy the menu and back softkeys
sometimes a reboot fix it...sometimes doesn't...
it drives me crazy!!, dunno how to start to fix this
please, any idea will be appreciated!!
thanks
since yesterday, flashed the stock rom with LGNPST...not the stock that i've flashed with CWM...
at this moment, didn't installed nothing, didn't rooted, and phone is nice and stable...
maybe an app is causing it?
maybe root?
so...let's try it a little more and see what happens

Agreed. I was forced to use the stock tot for a few days because I couldn't unlock. The stock ROM is actually the smoothest ROM I've used. The boot time is only a few seconds. I'm on Nocturnal now, because I have to have Google Now and the jellybean ROM had BSOD issues.

Battery charge does seem to be a LOT slower. And wifi keeps going in and out for me. Other than that, pretty flawless so far. No reboots to speak of and everything seems smooth. I also did fresh install.
Eager to try this out but don't want reboots, BT or Wifi issues!
I get; no torch, slider short cuts won't remove, and focal photo sphere doesnt work. Working good though can't wait to see it mature.

isn't it kind of like being married? would this be waking up with same ROMan every morning? (anybody get it?)
do nightlies seem to get issues resolved on a quicker basis? not that I have had any yet with the 4.3's I have run so far. actually pretty impressed so far.
Depending on your style of life (and view of marriage) it's more like being married but waking up with a different sister every morning. Problems may be resolved faster on nightlys (or not truthfully) but new ones are likely to arrive just as quickly. Plus we
are warned not to send in bug reports because being nightlys they are supposed to have bugs. I never completely understood that because we seem to be an ideal audience from which to get feedback. But those seem
to be the rules.

really, waking up with a different sister? are you from the south?
you would think nightlies should be more stable. sounds like its a yes but no? which makes it a personal preference and what are you willing to tolerate or sacrifice? pretty much like everything else.
it makes things more sporting anyway. after a month on the most solid ROM my phone has ever been on, I was getting bored.
I just keep following the forums, trying different nightlys, and wait for that gem that comes along and everything works like a dream. Those gems are few and far between sometimes, but usually worth the wait. And so far, 10.2 is off to a good start!
