[Q] I've Rooted my phone and wish I hadn't. - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Upgraded from my Rooted Galaxy S1 to a shiny new S3 and rooted because it did improve the performance of the S1.
Since doing so my phone intermittently turns off and restarts.
Its a UK phone on Tmobile. Will some kind soul point me in the right direction on how to get my phone back to stock.
I rooted the phone using Odin. I have deleted most of the rooted apps the exceptions being cwm manager, root checker, super user and voodoo ota rootkeeper.
Any help appreciated
Thanks
Steve

Google for Branded ROMs and reflash through Odin the original ROM if you "wish you hadnt rooted" your phone...there could be many reasons that cause such issues...such as the phone hardware itself which in your case regardless of rooted or not will still present such issues...if it was a software issue, either you have selected the incorrect insecure kernel or...your phone has no love for you.

Factory reset will solve ur problem

Go into recovery and fix permissions. If that fails, like the other person stated, factory reset. If that doesn't work. The rooting process must have messed up when you did it. Use Odin and factory firmware to go back to stock. Then try the root process again. But look for another method to do so. I am not on TMobil so I don't know how that works with that phone. But there are a ton of posts here that explain everything in detail going forward and backwards. Good luck. Let us know how it turns out.

..>>>>Possible bad flash
Run Triangle away to reset rom counter to zero .
Download your firmware via CHECKFUS flash via Odin boot then factory reset .

[Q] PLEASE HELP!!! How to unroot.

Hi guys.
My sister has a s3 (4.0.4). She wanted me to update it. (OTA not available). The phone is on 3 (UK). So i plugged it in kies and started to update it. After it had finished i turned the phone on and to my surprise it was asking for an unlock code! I was confused because it was working before the update. What made it even worse was that it hadnt updated to jellybean rather it was still 4.0.4. I was baffled.
So i decided to root it then do an unlock. This worked fine however i don't want the root for my sister as she is not into all this stuff. So i checked online if i could unroot. The only option i found was to a factory reset!. I can't do that as my sister will kill me. So now I'm stuck. Kies won't recognise my phone because its rooted. So what do i do??? I cant update it till its unrooted so I'm stuck.
Can you please tell me if there is any way round this. And how can i get jelly bean?.
Thanks.
keep it rooted and hide the root apps from the app drawer, that way your sister won't use them / mess the phone up.
Only other way is a factory reset + stock reflash i guess. :/
Well if you reeeally want to unroot, then install triangleaway first and do the "traditional steps of removing the binary count".. and then just flash a firmware from sammobile.com
Cheers!

Rooting doesnt stop KIES from recognising your phone. It doesnt stop you from updating via KIES. After updating you will lose the root. You are doing something wrong. Also ...your phone is carrier locked so after the update you will have to unlock it again. There are different ways /software for unlocking ....choose a permanent way.....then flashing will not affect your unlock status
Cheers
If you don't want to be rooted, buy an unlock code from your network.
The software methods all require root.

There is no reason to suddenly need an unlock code after a firmware update...
I would check the right version if the Rom you installed.
Unroot is not very complicated, it's mainly erasing the su binary in /system/bin I think and uninstalling super user app.

[Q] I want to return my Verizon Note II to the stock rom

I am weary. Every time there is an update, I have to do hours of research to find the latest work-around to carry my rooted phone into the next version. Now with the advent of the ISIS wallet, my phone did not want to allow me to use the app because it detected my phone was rooted. I've had enough; I just want to return my phone to the factory rom, so that future updates are less of a hassle for me.
My Verizon Note II phone is running Android Version 4.1.2. It was rooted using the Team Win Recovery Project rom with ODIN. Yesterday, I unrooted my phone using Chainfire's SuperUser app. My phone appears to be working normally and there are nearly no signs that it was ever rooted in ODIN Mode. The only giveaway is that TWRP bootup is still there. I cannot successfully update my phone to the next version, and I believe the TWRP bootup has something to do with that. I want to return my phone to factory default. I thank you for any assistance you can provide me with this.

jcollier, thank you so much for the reply. I visited the thread you mentioned. I'm going to use the information I gathered there to attempt to restore my phone to factory default. The only problem I ran into there is that the link for the 4.1.2 VRAMC3 rom is not working (something about too many downloads and trying again in 24 hours). I really don't want to wait that long just to see if the message will change. I've since gone to the sammobile.com website to see if I can glean something usable from there. Thank you again for your help.

[Q] i9205 problem after ota + root

I connect my Galaxy Mega (i9205) to kies and it showed that my phone have new update. Bear in mind that my phone is rooted previously (CWM). Kies updated my phone to I9205XXUCNA3. I update my phone with no problem (it took longer time only) but unfortunately KNOX ruined everything. It keeps on saying that SuperUser is trying to access the system. Furthermore, my Wifi is not working at all. I tried to click on the toggle button but no to avail.
So after searching, I found out how to disable KNOX - By flashing using vcoreroot-v2. Done flashing with this file, and now I can't see my interna; SDCard. I'm doomed and now I don't know what to do to turn back to how it was before.
Anybody that can help me, really appreciate it.

I see that so far you have found a way to disable knox AND cripple your Mega...
IMHO the best way to fix this situation is:
1. Download once more your newest firmware I9205XXUCNA3 (e.g. from Sammobile) and flash it by Odin to resolve starting position. Or try to restore your firmware through Kies.
2. Then BEFORE YOU DO SOMETHING read forums to find information how safely root firmware with KNOX. You have to be known so probably your warranty is already void and if not so it will be on the first attempt to root your unit. You are warned... There are some threads about rooting KNOX-ed firmware and even how to come back (partially) to previous build.
BEWARE! Do not attempt to flash older firmware lest you brick your Mega. New bootloader prevent from downgrading and if you try you will have endless bootloop. Upgradindg to newest firmware is one way trip.
OK I've followed your advise:
1. Re-download I9205XXUCNA3 from Sammobile and flash using odin.
2. Re-apply vcoreroot-v2
and after reboot.... WALLA!! My phone is back to normal again! And same goes to my internal SDCard, back as normal.
I have a problem with messaging where it keeps on crashing at first. But then I boot into recovery, clear cache and apply factory reset.
Now, all back to normal.
Anyhow, thank you so much for the tips. Now I can ease out a bit

I am glad you are successful. Sometimes you have to repeat two times, but no more: one for download errors, two for your errors. But if then you are not successful... then you have to look for another solution...
Can I know what rom u are using before updating to stock rom using kies?

Please Help!

I had my Verizon Galaxy S4 rooted. I am looking to turn my phone in today for the Note 3. I went into SU and checked I wanted to unroot my phone. My phone is unrooted now, but I can't get the Custom Lock that appears when you first boot the phone. I can't upgrade the phone either. I did a hard reset and that didn't work. I tried everything, and I can't get rid of that Custom Lock that appears, and I am afraid that I won't be able to turn my phone it. Can anyone help me?
Thank you,

To remove the "Custom" flag, you've got to return the phone to stock. If you haven't done anything but rooted it, then run the "unroot" script in the Saferoot thread (which means you'll need to re-root, unfortunately). After a reboot, the custom flag will reset.
However, many people have reported that having Custom hasn't caused them to have warranty claims denied.

How do I get the Custom(unlocked padlock) on start up to go away

Hello,
Sorry if this has been posted. I searched for this topic and did not see it for samsung s4. I rooted my phone using towel root, and when I updated to 4.4.2 my phone lost its root. I am fine with the phone not being rooted, but when I restart it the word custom shows up on reboot. I read people suggestion to get odin and flash the rom to stock. Will that solve the problem? Also does the rom stay the same for the device or does it change for each firware updates. Just want to make sure I flash my phone with the correct Rom. I ask this because I am returning my phone for a warrenty issue and just want to make sure anything that would show i rooted the phone is gone. Thanks in advance and sorry if some of these question are stupid.
yup yup! just do a clean restore to nc5! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2735172. Do a full wipe, since you are returning it.
and for "does the rom stay the same for the device"... im not quite sure what this is saying. The phone after samsung updates will be different but its the same touchwiz "rom."
