If it's not released, how would somebody use that version...
LordRalh3, Other versions won't work on Verizon's network...

Again, how are they going to use a GSM device on Verizon? Verizon is a CDMA network primarily, with LTE being the only type of GSM service they have. Unless you have some magic radio dust, you need to a VZW device to use VZW's network.
Oh so trolling me means the cdma versions released dont apply? The n7100 and 7105 are not the only note 2s, i got it, if you havent something to add thats helpfull then dont post please.

So, you want to know who has tried the Note II on Verizon? Unless you are a device tester, no one has used the Note II on Verizon's network. Yes, we could go out and try a T-Mobile Note II, but I can't see anyone on VZW spending $650 for an unlocked international version when it won't work on VZW's network.
Maybe you should realize that you're posting in a VERIZON ONLY forum and asking people their opinion's on GSM devices that have a snowball's chance in hell of working on Verizon's network before you start complaining about responses you're getting.
I posted it in the note 2 general q&a before it was separated into different flavors by the mods into individual carrier models, and btw people unlock phones and try different networks all the time, and there are at least 3 models from south korea that could play nicely with Verizon with a little effort and was hoping someone had found a useful bit of info. So once again if you dont have something helpful to post please dont

You really have no idea how VZW's network works do you? If you can't get a Sprint LTE device to work on VZW, how do you think you're going to get an international version working? Just because it supports LTE doesn't mean it will work. If that was the case, why aren't people using AT&T or Sprint Note II's on VZW? Or one of the many other LTE capable phones out there that are available? The reason is because you can't. It won't work, and even if they did support the same protocols and frequencies, you would need to know someone that has access to backend VZW systems that would be willing to risk their job for you to even hope at getting it to work.

lol some people are just fools who will never understand the concept of how the networks really work out there. If it really worked, hell people would be going to one dealer to get it $50 cheaper like AT&T has, and then just using it with their unlimited data on Verizon.
You guys are morons, i am NOT TALKING ABOUT ONLY GSM i am also talking about the cdma korean versions, ever heard of cdma workshop? How bout unlocking? For being on xda you are kinda out of it. Ive gotten my answer thank you, two of these versions DO work according to pms iv gotten from people that live or travel to/from south korea where guess what they use CDMA. Only in the us do carriers stop you from using a boughten phone on another network.

Yeah, we're all idiots and have no idea what we're talking about. Care to tell me how they got the ESN into VZW's database? How are they authenticating and using the LTE network, or even using the CDMA network properly? Probably by doing stuff that is less than legal, or they know people that not many others do. And if it's so easy to do, don't you think that people would be importing the international versions frequently rather than getting bloated Verizon versions? Then again, we're all just idiots, so wtf would we know.
sprints version should be able to work on Verizon, they are both cdma+lte with global capabilities... I know they could since sprint and Verizon roam of each other just like AT&T and T-Mobile do and unlocked gsm phones work on AT&T and T-Mobile all you should have to do is unlock a sprint version

Sprint doesn't use the same LTE frequency, and you wouldn't be able to get the phone's ESN info in VZW's database. This is why I've been saying you have to get a VZW version to use on VZW.

To be a recognized dev you really are trolling pretty badly. The dude asked if anyone had gotten another Note2 to work on verizon. We are all very happy you understand the policy behind the scenes of getting the device onto the network. There are plenty of people who do have connections within Verizon that could possibly have set it up to make it happen. I'm sure you know all about chipsets and network bands so I'm sure you understand it is completely within the realm of the possible that it happened. Don't bust on the guy for asking a question.

Would you risk your job to put a friend's Note 2 from another carrier in the system just so they could use the network? I imagine there are some very heavy restrictions on adding new devices to the database, with pretty heavy consequences if you're just adding stuff for fun. Is it possible to make it happen? Yes, it is. Is it likely to happen? No, and I doubt if you did get someone to add the phone info, they wouldn't want you to go around posting about it everywhere.
Given the likelihood is next to zero for knowing someone with the access to do this, being able to buy a non-VZW phone with the proper radio frequencies that isn't a VZW specific device, and then getting said person to add said device to the network, I don't get why the thread was started to begin with. I know of people that have tried to get Sprint CDMA only devices on VZW's network, and even that is a venture in futility, so I can't imagine how you expect to get an LTE Note II from a non-US carrier to work.
Also, you people need to learn what trolling is, as I wouldn't consider any of my posts in this thread to be trolling. I'm stating facts as to why what the OP is asking is extremely unlikely and near impossible. Trolling rarely is factual. Maybe you could say I'm a troll if I came here posting "OMG, I'm using it on VZW's network right now and it's the best thing since sliced French Bread", but I'm not.
So it is possible
It was just a question (in the Q&A section no less) looking for like minded people to respond
Trolling is responding without addressing the topic or in this case answering the question, which was what you did.... repeatedly.
I'm only responding because I would expect much more in a response from a developer. Leave the negativity and the can't do attitude to someone else.

Ok, totally nervous and anxious noob here. I had a question about the capabilities of the modem in this phone. My coworker has a captivate, and he told me all about the stuff you do here, and how he upgraded his modem to 4g. Is the vzw variant capable of the same? I've been reading the threads for a few weeks now, trying to figure out what to get, and now I'm just confused with the whole process, but that's a topic for another day.
Thanks.

Not. . . . . . . . . . . .
No.
The captivate can do HSPA which is all of the sudden be marketed as 4G (as HSPA+) but only up to the device limit of 7M.
That is one of ATT/TMO's ways of saying 4G.
VZN is using LTE which is different from their current CDMA#K which means phones can not take advantage of it.

Yeah, no. The "4G" he is talking about is not really 4G. It's a fake 4G.

Hahahah, this. +1
HSPA and LTE are different tech, just like CDMA#k and HSPA. HSPA has the same speed capability as LTE but the drasticly different delivery mechanism makes it a loser for these kind of tests.
LTE is the true future tech even though it doesn't meet 4G guidelines. Future HSPA evolutions are just going to be like new and improved satellite TDMA systems.... larger pipe for more terminals... but dont ldt ths customer know how many terminals there are.

If I had my choice, I would've gone with AT&T for numerous reasons, but given my circumstance, VZW was my only option. Big Red has a track record of making things difficult for the end user (like upgrading phones). I love this phone, and the service is good, but it's a bit discouraging that I'll have to wait 2 years to get a faster phone when this one has capable hardware being held back by them.
Sorry for the rant. Basically, I'm anxiously awaiting the day when I can cut the bloat and let this thing fly. Keep up the awesome work, and I'll keep reading until I get all the pieces together.

The captivate doesn't do 4g..the guy just has a theme that changed his icon to show 4g when he still has 3g. And neither phone has the hardware to run 4g.
At&t has **** for service...hence the REAL reason iPhone is with vzw now. I will never pay for at&t again.
Just got off phone with Motorola and they confirmed the Photon has a LTE chip installed! I called sprint and they said it didn't. Somebodies lying, my bet is sprint.
My guess is that the Motorola rep is confusing that for 4G in general. I highly doubt the Photon has LTE.
Now, I certainly wouldn't be disappointed if it does, but I imagine that would have been in the FCC certification.

I doubt they would have added an expensive piece of hardware just for the heck of it. The fact that it isn't touted as a feature to"future proof" the phone leads me to assume it isn't there.

The hole in that thought is the matrix is on ATT(GSM) which is different from VZW in more ways then one.
The VZW references is due to the you can roam in VZW and a possible launch of the phone on VZW.
It seems that this phone has a lot of Q's surronding the radio freq's it uses so we are going to need to find a good tear down and look to that for answers.
Ok so in case people didn't know, LTE uses sim cards for the 4G. But it can't be in the photon, sprint wont have it for some time.
My buddy at Motorola replied to me "wimax". So I guess its not LTE ready and that moto rep is misunderstanding that sprints 4g is different. After all, this is the first moto android phone on sprint

If that's the case why aren't you on Verizon?
Plug the photon in and look in device manager, it has an LTE modem period. There is no argument here, find it for yourself. Sprint will have LTE but not for awhile, as for the Photon working on it, who knows, but I am damn sure that it is capable of it. If you are asking a Sprint Rep any questions about a phone, 97.38782% of them don't know much about them, yes there are a few who actually do their homework on each and every phone they come across but that is few and far between. ( And in case you work at Sprint and you are reading this, don't take it personal, I'm just saying that most reps sell phones, they don't study them and know them inside and out) As for Motorola, who knows, it all depends on who you talk to, but I would believe one of them over a random Sprint rep who 'sells' phones for a living, being that Motorola actually built the thing.
But all you really need to do is plug it in and look for yourself.

Now that is interesting indeed
It just might have a LTE radio. Maybe Sprint's plans are starting to show up in current and future phones? Here is an excerpt:
If Sprint were to tap into Clearwire’s LTE network it wouldn’t gain any additional coverage beyond its current 4G footprint. It would gain additional capacity, but it would come at a price. Since Clearwire’s LTE wouldn’t even cover existing WiMAX markets completely, Sprint will need to deploy dual-mode WiMAX and LTE devices. That’s already a tall order for device makers, but Clearwire is using an unpaired spectrum configuration for LTE, meaning Sprint will need LTE chips not only for Clearwire’s 2.5 GHz frequencies but in a time-division duplexing (TDD) mode that no other operator uses in the U.S.

There may be some logic to this from Moto perspective...
It 4g and it a world phone...it suports cdma and gsm...
But is it also the first "4g" "world phone"? having both wimax and LTE ?(you got the sim like verzion LTE phones need)
So for Moto one hardward build for all world markets...and would also make it one hell of a development phone for google android to test everything on
Would the EVO 3d and Samsung Galaxy 2 people crap if true....
A phone with all these radios cdma, gsm, wimax and LTE would be hacker heaven
Who knows could be source of unlocked 4g issues that just the Photon seem to have ... that bootstrap has an extra radio to set up
===One other thing I recall Sprints Touch pro 2 "world phone" was not certified for GSM by FCC for US so radios were not listed on FCC doc...but it had them
Other thing in all the Photon "tear down" ive seen...ive never seen the chips because of how the lable sits in the battey compartment covers the chips...you would need to destroy the phone to see
So, looking to upgrade and kick Sprint to the curb after 12 years with Nextel, and Ting is looking like a really fine service as far as four line family plans go. I'm kicking around my HTC Hero, (CM7, gonna try ICS Beta for it's last huzzah.) and was looking for a more powerful Android. Was thinking about getting a feature phone or a mifi, and complementing it with a Galaxy Player. But the Photon looks really, really nice all of a sudden, with 4G and GSM compatibility. Toss in the best specs on a month-to-month phone that I've seen, I'm seriously considering dropping $550 on this thing. Please talk me out of it?

Stateside. And with the Photon kinda being oversold on the Ting website, and not that great a bump from the Conquer, dual core nonwithstanding, I'm still a little confuzled on what I want.
How future-proof would you say this thing is, regarding still being competitive in the next couple years? Tend to run them until they dead or unserviceable, and if blow a massive chunk of my tax return, might as well make it last a while.
Experience with Ting thus far...
Hi all,
I recently changed carriers from AT&T (using Motorola Atrix 4G) to Ting (Motorola Photon 4G) and I have recently unlocked the bootloader (yes, I lost 4G connectivity), rooted, and installed the latest version of Rocko ROM with Alien Theme.
Everything has worked out so far and I am having a good experience with the device and with Ting Mobile, from their no wait phone service policy, to their dashboard web interface. I can't really speak to the relative degree of future proofing the Photon may have compared to other phones, I am just happy that I could get away from paying so much for a similar tier of service at AT&T and not necessarily have to compromise on a phone, though not being able to use GSM towers with a prepaid SIM card is a bummer, but otherwise, so far so good. Take care all.

No phone is future proof the way things are flowing manufacturers are cracking phones out of their ass every 3 months or so. You have to look at the development threads that will tell you how active the phone is on the developers on xda are and that should give you an insight on how worth it is.

I disagree. Just because it's a mobile virtual network operator doesn't mean the the files are the same. On the contrary, I'd bet anyone using one of these device could confirm their notification bar and lock screen show Ting as the carrier, not sprint, which means at a minimum the framework-res/eri.xml has been edited, meaning it's not the same file despite being on "technically" the same network.

we have 4 g work in on the at&t note using t- mobile network. this is very bad news for the international model, it does not look like it will ever happen for you guys. so if you have the international model using t-mobile and you want 3G you will need to sell it and get the at&t version for that to happen.

Hi,
I have the AT&T G-Note on Tmobile but am only able to get their 2G/Edge data. I've asked/called Tmo tech support and spoke w/their reps at the store. They told me that all non-Tmo phone will only get the slower (2G) data speeds.
If 3G is possible, what are the steps to get this working? Does it have to be rooted?
Thanks

Yes, my battery app says 12;53 total(though it is always 10% less than system levels), and I can get a whole 16-20 hours if i dont make many calls, stick to wifi. My normal communte use(1hr each way train, music+gaming, somst of time i remeber to turn on plane mode since underground)) and email/downloading random things still leaves me with a few hours when i come home.
No lag except when i leave too many tabs open in dolphin. I also throughly enjoy pulling down 20-50gb no problem(look on peoples face in an elevator is worth eating into my data plan)
I was using it to torrent a movie while at the same time throwing video over wifi to my xbox and texting and checking fb at the same time. Cant be that bad of a proccessor now can it?
You may not have meant to start a flame wars but that happened on the international forum and got your thread closed.
Just enjoy your Gnote and leave it at that.

The fix is here, in post 133.
Have to agree with here... I'm fairly annoyed with seeing people duplicating threads (in the same section and everything) trying to take moderate credit from a developer or another users find/build.
'You' don't have any news, the folks over here have news:

Now who's the troll? Uh, you!
Could a mod please lock this? This is such an obviously such a blatant attempt to start an unnecessary flame-war.
Thread Closed
This is just turning into a flame war between the international and AT&T users. This is not what its about!

I don't get it, I keep setting people asking questions in here about international use when they obviously got it with no intention of ever using it on Verizon, what makes this phone so great that foreigners and even people on other us carriers get it instead of the s4 that's meant for them?

Because they are crazy, cause we are locked down tighter then a baby pig sucking tit in the mourning b4 eating slop in a farm ..... Lucky I have mdk Im pretty pleased with this phone , but if I was them I would maybe buy the phone from a carrier with not such a locked down bootloader
hyperdrive powered s4
probably because verizon has one of the biggest customer base and best service whitch means more phones to be able to buy used on ebay and what not that is just what i think...and i think verizon enabled international on the note 2 and now s4 not sure about the n3 but not sure if other carriers have that option or if it is a gsm cdma difference.. or what or international carriers can only use vzw baseband

Verizon comes unlocked default and uses a cdma network + sim card
Which means it can be used on other cdma carriers around the world+gsm carriers
No other variants of gs4 can do this

Sounds reasonable, but I didn't know there were foreign CDMA carriers
