What is now the fastest most efficient way of rooting my friends Sprint Galaxy S2 (USA so I am assuming its i-777)?
Ultimately I simply want to root him first and install AOKP rom on his phone.

Hi All
New to this forum and recently got a SG S2. I have read numerous times about eople rooting and unlocking thier mobile phones so that they can remove all the bloated rubbish you get with your phone. I have no idea how to root/unlock my phone, nor how the process really works. I dont want a scientific explanation of how rooting and unlocking works, just a simple terms and then a guide on how to do it on my GT-I9100 please?
I would like to downclock my S2 also whilst idle so as to preserve battery, can this be done?
thanks guys
Sure my friend. Sticked threads is all you need. Just search.

My device is currently updated to android 4.0.4, can this be unlocked or rooted? Also do I need to just root my device, or does it need to be unlocked then rooted or vice versa?
thanks

Everything you have asked is written in this forum, how do you think we know it. Please read the sticky threads its loads more convenient than typing it all out on a phone screen over and over again. That's why they are permanently stuck to top of screen. I'm new too with no background in this stuff, I did it, so I'm sure you can to. All the best my friend.

Wrong Forum.
Edit: Ok, read the actual question.
GSM arena's got all specs, check there.
Or just google "(the) device specs"
And no, skyrocket is a totally different device.
I9100M is customized by bell canada.

Here is the situation my friend found what looks to be a AT&T Galaxy S2, but it had multiple locks on it. So i told him I could root it, do a factory wipe and it will be good as new. Easy right? Well it wasn't.
So I started by downloading the tar for the AT&T Galaxy S2 rooted it everything fine and did a factory wipe, but there still was a lock on the phone.
So I tried redoing the root and it bricked its self. But right before it bricked itself I saw GT-I9100. I decided then to just got to GalaxyS2Root.com and find the right .tar, then I rerooted it, did another factory wipe, and it worked. BUT WAIT only 4 buttons work.
Volume- works fine
Lock- works fine
Menu- works fine
Home- thinks it back
Back- doesn't work
Search- doesn't work
Recovery mode- Volume Up+Lock
Download mode- Volume Down+Lock
This layout is similar to the Galaxy S3.
So if you are lost let me sum it up. I have what looks like a AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777, that thinks it is Samsung Galaxy S II I9100 and has a button layout similar to the Galaxy S III.
P.S. I also need a free way to change the sim from at&t to t mobile
P.S.S. I AM A NOOB AND I AM PROUD
P.S.S.S. Sorry i couldn't post my pics the site wouldn't let me

I am not ignorant I listened to that video. I search for other post that might deal with my problem and tried posting in the phones forum but the site wouldn't let me. Yes I know ask for help on the the sim unlocker was lazy but i wanted a free way to do it so my friend doesn't have to spend any money and so I don't have to leave it rooted and let him mess his phone up. So how about I not listen to that video and not mark your post as helpful.

What is the difference between the Galaxy S3 GT-I9100 and the AT&T Galaxy S3?(Hint: the answer is how it looks)

Your friend "FOUND" and it "APPEARS" to be an AT&T GS2....try again...oh and enjoy....and the title speaks volumes. The device can't be confused, it doesn't make decisions, it puts out what's put into it.

I normally don't answer this kind of question/challenge but since you're newbie which I was once, I said this
GT-I9100 is the S2, not S3 hence I could care less about the GSG3.
Now if you want to talk about the S2 and its variants then the difference is googling the 2 models, search for images, put them side by side and play the "find the 7-point difference" game.
You downloaded a tar file and flashed it for the i9100. Which is the international version of the galaxy s2. The phone you have is the i777 galaxy s 2. So at least you're in the right place . Look at the member creepyncrawly's profile he had links to everything you need.
How about I reword the question: how do I get my GT-I9100 to match an AT&T galaxy s2 interface

Open the phone; pull the battery; read the label. What model is it?
Can someone please help me. I have spent the past 2 days trying to figure this out. I have a phone and there is almost no way this isn't a AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777. But it will only run on a Samung Galaxy S II GT-I9100 ROM. So If someone could tell me why this is and not criticize because I am a noob it would be appreciated.
Sincerely wewonk

If you are still at this stage, enter recovery and perform a wipe data/factory reset.

Emphasis mine. If the bold statement is true, then it is probably because you did not perform a wipe data/factory reset. But which I777 Galaxy S2 version did you "try" to flash? and where did you get it? You need to give more details. No one can help without enough information.

This. Look at the links in my signature. Go to the Download Repository and scroll to the bottom. Install the latest stock firmware, I777UCLL6. Enter recovery and perform a wipe data/factory reset first.
4G on my Gf's Galaxy s2 stopped working. It shows that it's on but nothing works.
What could be the reason and how do I fix?
Also, I upgraded her phone recently to stock JB and that's my only guess as to why its doing it. Just not sure why it would.
Thanks!
