Hey guys, I have an unrooted Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket on AT&T and I really want to get Google Now on it without rooting. I was looking around online and I found a video in which the guy manages to install it using only apks. Yes, he was rooted, but the only reasons I could see that it needed root was to edit build.prop and to edit the system apks. So I thought, well, couldn't I just do that on my computer? I was thinking that maybe if I plugged my phone in via USB, got build.prop off the system folder, edited it, then edited the system files, but the new build.prop on, installed the apk I would have Google Now! I'm pretty sure this won't work, but I'm curious why.
You need root to access system folders

So even if you go on PC and via USB browse to system folders, you can't open them?

You can't view system folders on a PC, only using a root browser (to edit), a normal file browser (to view) or adb (to view)

Hello do anyone know if it's possible to copy keyboard from one rom to other rom? To add a language.
Sent from my GT-S5830 using Tapatalk
yes its possible. but need to know which apk is the keyboard, also the lib associated with it.
I'm trying to find out about moving the keyboard as well. How to move the lib and the apk to system\app? I don't have root explorer..
what keyboard do u want to extract from the rom?
Hmm i didn't extract the keyboard myself. I got the DioChinese IME from a forum.
I just installed coderomv2x, but it does not have the chinese keyboard, so I downloaded it but not sure how to move it without rootexplorer..
well then, if just wanna remove stock keyboard from rom, just use titanium backup. uninstall/freeze it will do.
also if that diochinese keyboard u got is flashable zip file, u can just flash it via recovery.
Sorry but I'm new to this, so I don't really understand what u meant by flashable zip file. I have the apk and and .so files (which are the library files rite? :S) Is there a way to move these files to the system/app folder? How else do I install the keyboard? Thnx!
copy the apk to /system/app and the libs to /system/lib then give proper permission. permission for both the apk and libs should be rw-r--r--. then just reboot ur phone. u need to rooted ur phone and using any filemanager with root capability like root explorer to do this.
Thanks, i found Super Manager from the market and used it to move the files. How do i enable permissions? By using the superuser app?
dont know about super manager because never use it, but if using root explorer is long click on the file>Permissions. and it should look like this
Hmm icic my files appear as rwxr-x, and i can't seem to find a way to change the permissions...but i went back to the apk file and tried to install. It installed and the keyboard now works, but i think the handwriting mode got prob.
when u enter any filesystem folder using root explorer, on the upper right corner theres a button that showed "mount r/w", click it until it shows "mount r/o". only then will u be able to change the content of filesystem folder.

Do you know? Please tell then.
Keyboard apks normaly are top of the list and end in ime for instance AxT9ime.apk and if you deodex you can take libs from the apk its self hope that helps.

How do i get access to the built in ringtones or the main filesystem on the phone? Is this at all possible ?

You need to be rooted first. Then using root explorer you should be able to navigate to system/media/audio

Hi,
Earlier today I installed CM10 on my phone and so far it's been absolutely fantastic! Very happy with it
One small problem I have is that I've downloaded some themes which go to storage/emulated/0/download (along with all of my downloads when I was on stock) - but I cannot access them? It says my download folder is empty - any ideas please?
Thanks

Thanks! I've just tried that using ES and couldn't find anything, so plugged it into my PC
Computer\GT-I9300\Internal storage\data\media does not exist
Computer\GT-I9300\Internal storage\Downloads is full of my downloads
So that looks kinda correct. However under settings, then Internal Storage, then Downloads... it's empty

You can take a look at /mnt/shell/emulated.

it's not supposed to. your internal storage IS /data/media. and it won't work from the PC

Thank you, I've followed the instructions for ES and found my files, I also have them in /sdcard/downloads
The problem is, if I go to downloads (or downloads via the storage menu) it just says "No downloads"
Any ideas what I could be doing wrong please?
Its not screwed.
Download app only records new downloads afaik? It wont pick up old ones that it didn't download itself.
Would need specific error logs from /cache/recovery to even start to troubleshoot recovery issues but its nothing to do with this anyway
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
Your downloaded files are sometimes stored in the "Files" folder. Once there, open the "Downloads" folder and it should be there
Emulated/0 is the "new" way to access the internal storage. It was added for an extra layer of permission protection. It stops apps misbehaving behind your back.

Go to the My Files folder. Click All. Click Download folder. There are all the files downloaded from emails.

Have you enabled the permissions for storage in app manager?.
Have you encrypted the folder?.
Have you tried developer settings and enabling root?.
I have no idea why you've changed from stock to a custom rom. That's like trading money for dust..

can someone plz tell me what this file means or does! I foundd it on my system folder on a folder named addon.d and that's is the only file I found there..the original file is named like this "70-gapps.sh" ....my device is a polaroid tablet pmid705 some people saying that polaroids tablets are pre rooted but mines ain't....I just need to know what is this file is and what it does?
This will read the google apps files lole the play store, gmail etc. As you can see it reads a lot of apks and triggers a lot of libs. Do not remove it.

I want to make Asphalt 8: Airborne think I have an s4, so I can unlock higher graphic settings, is it safe? How do I do it?
I'm running CyanogenMod with Android 4.2.2
My friend did that (Galaxy Y) to update one of his game and it is safe. Just create a backup file of your original build.prop first before editing.

As long as you have away of backing up and restoring the original build.prop then it is safe. The easiest way is with a nandroid back up or you can make a flashable zip with the original build.prop. If these are things that you have never ever heard of...then maybe you shouldn't mess with the build.prop.
OK, you will need to root your device. You can modify the build.prop using ROM Toolbox Lite from the playstore. That is probably the easiest way to do it or if you have a rooted file explorer you can also navigate to the build.prop and then open it in a text editor on your android device and modify it there (you will have to change the permissions to RW and when you are done change them back to RO). If you copy it to your PC make sure you use a compatible text editor, if you use Word, you will be sad After pushing the edited version back to your device's system folder, make sure to change the permissions because they will be all messed up. Reboot your device so the new changes get implemented.
