How do i get access to the built in ringtones or the main filesystem on the phone? Is this at all possible ?
Brand new phone.
You need to be rooted first. Then using root explorer you should be able to navigate to system/media/audio
What are tou trying to do?

Hello,
I have flashed my phone with the Lite'ning Rom v1.1 XWKE7 and normally it my phone should be rooted....
So far I understood, but how do you get in the system files, do you need to go true USB mass storage? in that case, I didn't see those maps
Do you need a program for windows to get in those system files?
I want to disable the camera shutter sound, i know I need to go to /system/media/audio/ui ... but how do I get there?? :/
I know it's a noob question but I just can't figure it out
You need an app like root explorer which acts like windows explorer to access your phone's directories

Or droid explorer for your desktop, but it's incredibly slow so root explorer ftw.
Thx, do you know some good program's? I can google it but if someone knows a good program it would be handy
i'm working with windows 7 64bits
root explorer its the way to go

If you want to do it from your pc the adb is probably the best option. If you want to do it form your phone go with root explorer or if you don't want to pay use android terminal emulator.
I managed it to work! thx for help all
I just upgraded a new ATT S2. I would like to transfer all the settings (everything) from my existing Att s2 to the new phone. Is it possible?
I know I have to root the new phone first and install CVM kernel.
So I just copy the whole sd card folders and paste to the new phone. Then go to recovery mode and restore.
Anyone try it before?

+1 to this as well. I had to swap devices early on and this worked without issue.
Thanks. I'm using juice defender ultimate and set a lot of tweats in there. Not sure how they can apply to the new phone

If the two phones are the same model then all you need to do
is to copy the directories of the backups to same directories
on new phone. Just copy the /sdcard/clockworkmod folder to
your external sdcard or to your computer, then from external
sdcard to internel sdcard in the new phone.
Just be sure to copy the "clockworkmod" folder, don't open
the folder and start copying files or it will get mixed up.
If you copy clockworkmod folder to your computer,
simply copy it back to the NEW phone's SDCARD
(the entire clockcworkmod folder).
Don't copy one or more files at a time. Copy the entire folder.
Good Luck.
Thanks. Works Like a charm. I'll return the existing one and replace it with the iphone4s for my girlfriend
Hey guys, I have an unrooted Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket on AT&T and I really want to get Google Now on it without rooting. I was looking around online and I found a video in which the guy manages to install it using only apks. Yes, he was rooted, but the only reasons I could see that it needed root was to edit build.prop and to edit the system apks. So I thought, well, couldn't I just do that on my computer? I was thinking that maybe if I plugged my phone in via USB, got build.prop off the system folder, edited it, then edited the system files, but the new build.prop on, installed the apk I would have Google Now! I'm pretty sure this won't work, but I'm curious why.
You need root to access system folders

So even if you go on PC and via USB browse to system folders, you can't open them?

You can't view system folders on a PC, only using a root browser (to edit), a normal file browser (to view) or adb (to view)

Exactly what I was looking for, thanks.
can someone plz tell me what this file means or does! I foundd it on my system folder on a folder named addon.d and that's is the only file I found there..the original file is named like this "70-gapps.sh" ....my device is a polaroid tablet pmid705 some people saying that polaroids tablets are pre rooted but mines ain't....I just need to know what is this file is and what it does?
This will read the google apps files lole the play store, gmail etc. As you can see it reads a lot of apks and triggers a lot of libs. Do not remove it.

I want to make Asphalt 8: Airborne think I have an s4, so I can unlock higher graphic settings, is it safe? How do I do it?
I'm running CyanogenMod with Android 4.2.2
My friend did that (Galaxy Y) to update one of his game and it is safe. Just create a backup file of your original build.prop first before editing.

As long as you have away of backing up and restoring the original build.prop then it is safe. The easiest way is with a nandroid back up or you can make a flashable zip with the original build.prop. If these are things that you have never ever heard of...then maybe you shouldn't mess with the build.prop.
OK, you will need to root your device. You can modify the build.prop using ROM Toolbox Lite from the playstore. That is probably the easiest way to do it or if you have a rooted file explorer you can also navigate to the build.prop and then open it in a text editor on your android device and modify it there (you will have to change the permissions to RW and when you are done change them back to RO). If you copy it to your PC make sure you use a compatible text editor, if you use Word, you will be sad After pushing the edited version back to your device's system folder, make sure to change the permissions because they will be all messed up. Reboot your device so the new changes get implemented.
