Porting Windows Phone 8? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

As you all might know Windows Phone 8 will support dual-cores and micro-sd cards, so my question would be, if it could be ported to our device.
Keep in mind I'm not a developer

Do you want the long answer or the short answer?

Both! I'm interested too. Although, my hopes aren't up haha.

Check out the app Launcherwp8. If you like the look of Windows 8 you can use this launcher

Windows Phone 7 hasn't been ported to the SII for a reason, and the same applies to this.

I think that Windows Phone 7 can not be ported to this device because it does not have dual-core and micro-SD card support

Nobody is going to port either to the SGS2. Devs who are still developing for it have much better things to do with their (almost always) limited time.

I dont think you should expect a port unless Microsoft releases the source code, which it wont.

No kernel to support the hardware, no drivers to support the hardware, no recovery to work in. Will never happen. We will never have it for the same reason we will never see ios on an android phone. Its proprietary and closed down. Also I think its illegal.
And na7, that's a little unfair don't you think? WP8 is probably the most well built mobile OS out there, not to mention revolutionary in many ways. Not as closed down as IOS, not as fragmented and choppy as android, runs better of less specs, one kernel spanning across mobile and desktop for seamless compatibility, can do out of the box what android needs 6 or 7 apps to do, backed by arguably the most solid mobile hardware manufacturer in the world, I could go on. Don't know about you but one of Nokias WP8 devices will be my next phone hands down. Id love to see it on the photon but it wont happen, ever.

Wrong forum.
You want http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1329
There is no point asking for what you are asking for in this forum, because they are completely different phones, and ROMs and kernels are not compatible between the two devices.
I am thinking about getting this phone .......yea this phone
And was wounding if anyone has made a working linaro ROM ...gosh people like you make me want to get a iPhone

You were unclear in your post which "this phone" meant.
People with attitudes like you make me want people like you to get an iPhone. Unclear, and expect others to read your mind.

There is no windows rom which can be flashed on s3.

you cannot have windows 7/8 on a smartphone, because PCs use a different architecture. Now, if you're talking about Windows Phone 7, that's a whole different OS. It's still impossible for the i9300, since the device sources needed for porting are closed. All the HTC HD2 sources are widely open so porting is so easy.

HD2 is a Windows device, originally it comes with windows mobile. It was a bigger deal to port Android than Windows Phone to it.
New Android Phones doesn't have windows drivers.
My question, why you want Windows Phone on your S3?
Btw WP7 can't handle Quad Core Speed

Tizen port for i9300

Hey guys.
Is there any development on tizen port for i9300?
I've read through the tizen thread and people there are saying we should ask on the device thread.
Could this be done? I sure as heck would like to try this as much as the Ubuntu port.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
I've not seen anyone try to port it. Not sure why they would either? Its a basic operating system for budget phones. Cant see anyone wanting to massively limit their phone's capability - even out of curiosity

Nah tizen is actually looking to be quite robust. I wouldn't say it limits the phone's capability. Rather it opens doors for more features. It can already run Android apps man...

Are there any news on this? Id love to try Tizen on my S3. Ubuntu porting project was discontinues unfortunately :/
bump... what about tizen-2.2 on SGS3 (i9300)?

Are we going to get an Asop/play edition rom?

What's the chances? It's the only thing I'm missing since moving from the m8.

Thats easier with Qualcomm than with Exynos. One could probably build CM12.1 for a Snapdragon within short time, with this one it is close to a moonlanding. Starting from scratch and it is hard. I'm soon beginning works on CM12 for the S6E, but if/when that will ever work.. It's not that easy with Exynos. But the S6 is so popular that it should eventually happen. Altough I fear it will rather be for the flat S6 than for the Edge.. More devs over there.
All we would need would be a kernel and the rom would be compatible right? Just have to play the waiting game it seems...

If the Flat gets it, probably yes. But I can't tell in advance how deep their changes will be and if everything will work. But the road to that Rom will anyways be bumpy, long and very, very difficult.
I for once am tired of waiting all the time and going to try building something myself. But I saw how well together CM development and Exy seem to go. It's rocket science
It surprises me how there's not more support to get touchwiz off our phones. U know it's better than it used to be, but for me it unnecessary bloat that's mostly fill of gimmicks. Good luck!

Thanks
The wish to support it is one thing, the skill a completely different problem. It's one thing for Qualcomm, but an entirely different task here. Once there is a working CM base, people will probably start basing Roms on it. But personally speaking, I need every help I can get. If you run over an Exynos dev who has experience with debugging, Roms and CM, hook me up please
