Thats easier with Qualcomm than with Exynos. One could probably build CM12.1 for a Snapdragon within short time, with this one it is close to a moonlanding. Starting from scratch and it is hard. I'm soon beginning works on CM12 for the S6E, but if/when that will ever work.. It's not that easy with Exynos. But the S6 is so popular that it should eventually happen. Altough I fear it will rather be for the flat S6 than for the Edge.. More devs over there.
All we would need would be a kernel and the rom would be compatible right? Just have to play the waiting game it seems...

If the Flat gets it, probably yes. But I can't tell in advance how deep their changes will be and if everything will work. But the road to that Rom will anyways be bumpy, long and very, very difficult.
I for once am tired of waiting all the time and going to try building something myself. But I saw how well together CM development and Exy seem to go. It's rocket science
It surprises me how there's not more support to get touchwiz off our phones. U know it's better than it used to be, but for me it unnecessary bloat that's mostly fill of gimmicks. Good luck!

The wish to support it is one thing, the skill a completely different problem. It's one thing for Qualcomm, but an entirely different task here. Once there is a working CM base, people will probably start basing Roms on it. But personally speaking, I need every help I can get. If you run over an Exynos dev who has experience with debugging, Roms and CM, hook me up please

Since its safe to assume verizon will be running over this update again and again with its monster truck of doom and then leaving it to die in the mud long before even thinking about passing the carcass of whats left to its customers, our awesome dev's will be needing an international base, I'm sure, as soon as it is available in order to pass the greatness on to their VZ followers(ok me ) through their awesome ROMs that they work so hard on.
Soooo I was thinking; in order to hopefully cut the first step out (getting a hold of the update file itself) maybe the right combination of peeps(someone who is or knows someone that is on the international base) could read this thread and kindly have the update file extracted and ready to share to the devs as soon as its available...
If this is a waste of thread then I apologize. I'm just trying to help any way I can...
I flash ALOT ...and also yes.
I'm thinking we'll have the international base out by middle of next week. Hopefully we'll get some of the new features that's on the GS4 like the new photo stuff.

Id say it depends on what rom youre talking about. Ones built off the VZW base wont be updated until we get an OTA more than likely. Roms based on the International firmware will be updated straight away.
The article the OP linked only applies to the International variant, therefore its only moderately exciting.
I don't see the goods of the 4.2.2 and I prefer 4.1.2 lock screen.

Im right there with ya! The international roms almost always have more features, seeing as how Verizon hasnt managed to get their grubby hands on it, and run a bit smoother than the VZW roms that have been modded to add the features back.

Please forgive my ignorance in advance, I am very much a noob. I hope I am asking this in the right place.
It looks like Jelly Bean 4.3 will provide support for TRIM. Will this be a big deal for (continued) performance?
Is the TRIM support written into 4.3 code as a generic thing for all devices or will it be something that is hardware specific for each phone hardware? I guess my real question here is, will we have to wait on big red to release something with regard to G Note 2 (Verizon) for developers to have something to work with or will there likely be a port from another device?
Can anyone suggest a 4.3 ROM that is out for G Note 2 Verizon? Or maybe a good one that is in the works?
Thanks to all of the developers on this site, your work is appreciated by someone who tries a new ROM every week!!!

Here is also an app that will perform trim for you. Trim is very important in all nand type storage but only has to be done about 1 a month or a week depending how much you write and delete from the device (very important for crack flashers ).

Yes it is safe with the N2, I use it on my all the time. The older devices used a faulty chip that would brick the phone when certain things were done.

Eclipse TW edition. It's so good that no one comments on the thread... no bugs.
Plus the pile of AOSP-based usual suspects.
Does this need to be a thread? Go look through the forums, and try whatever you think will work best for you and try them out. If you think the development is dead then don't get the S4 or sell it for something else. What are you looking for? someone to tell you that it's not dead, you should keep your phone, better things are coming? If your satisfied with the phone and what you have on their great, if not, do whatever you feel.
The ME7 issue killed a lot of development, there's no denying it. Just look at the development forums of an S4 from a different carrier.
Although the few ROM's that are available for this device are real quality. Really we should all stop debating about it and start cooking our own ROM's.

So do we get the pitchforks out and commence advance on LGs social media, etc? To get them to churn out an official build, of course.
It's a great phone and I bought it knowing they might not be quick on the draw. Didn't consider that 4.4 might make all these ROMs all for naught. Still, I needed a faster phone and this certainly fits the bill!
At same time I did know that short of a GSM Nexus that I couldn't have guarantee of latest Android.
I'm stuck on Verizon until March 2013. I can then slap a GSM Sim in, hopefully. But I paid retail so it's not like I want to buy a new phone anytime soon.
Well. I have myself to blame. Again. But I am off contract in March and this will never happen to me again!
Sent from my VS980 4G using Tapatalk
I am hopeful that when 4.4 comes out our devs will be able find a way for us to upgrade from 4.2 to a custom rooted 4.4 with out any issues. I do think that even stock unrooted this phone is fantastic it is carrier iq that is killing me. I'm sure att will put it in 4.4 also. Even though it was the carriers idea LG allows it to happen so I blame them also.

LG to my knowledge locks the bootloader on all its devices regardless of carrier.
This is troubling. The reason I chose the G2 was because it was the closest thing to the Nexus 5 on Verizon and had good developer support. Hopefully our fantastic developers will figure out a solution.
From what I understand, unless we upgrade to the official 4.4 LG ROM, there is no chance of this happening. Is that correct ?

That's my take on it. It is built into the 4.4 kernel. I wonder if this had anything to do with Google buying Motorola in August. Lock the phones way down for the carriers.

If there will not be a 4.4 rom within 3 months guess it is a dirty shot for those who bought it and want to buy it like me
Looks like I'll be rolling with Nexus devices from now on. I guess it was bound to happen though, I'm sure OEM's wanted another security layer because of bootloader work a rounds. On the upside though, there will be less threads on device release days asking for root and ROM ETA's!
Sent from my Nexus 7
the funny thing even though android are opensource, the phones and hardware are not. Thats where improvement is. If you create an abstraction layer, where due to propriatary stuff its closed and updateable by vendor. Another layer, the OS can go on top, thusly eliminating hardware dependancy as well as increasing updatability. OS and security issues can then more easily be adressed, without the now unduable vendor involvement needed in integrating the new OS with all the hardware specifics. Given the entropy rate of new phones coming out, its undoable. This last, as wel as commercial reasons is why updates and fixes for security holes dont come fast. As of yet.
Right now we see the true devs juggling various devices as the rate of entropy in new devices is higher then more true devs coming in. Devices not even picket up by community cause there are no devs for it. The breaking point has come.
A new design must be made for this momentum, a new standard

I think people who are already rooted will be ok , they will just need to avoid the official 4.4 until a custom rom is built. The bigger problem will be for new unrooted owners. I would imagine it being tricky to flash a custom kernel without the ability to root. I also agree in time the devs will figure something out.

Imho I think it's not that bad, we got the best roms available for the 850f. (I didn't like miui), I tried most famous ones and ended up with resurrectionRemix on my previous phone. Which I loved (once I found my way in all the little settings )
We got different kernels too and the 850F is rootable, all together this is enough "choice" for me.
If you want the most choice in roms and kernels go for the S-series.
