I'm rooted with CF-Auto-Root on a stock ROM. I want to unroot so that I can safely re-root with msskip's Toolkit. How do I get there? I don't care if I have to totally wipe my phone. I have the latest stock ROM from Samsung's web site if needed.
Flash a stock rom via ODIN wipes root .

Is it possible to backup the phone before root?
So if I have to return the phone I can restore the radio and rom and kernel from odin?
No you can't. But you can check if you can find your current firmware here.
The only way is to root then backup but you have a rooted phone as backup which voids warranty and in that case you would be better downloading a stock Samsung rom .
Installing that will remove root .

Then flash stock rom .

1. Backup any contacts, photos etc to PC and remove SIM card
2. Download stock firmware from [Guide+ROMS]Odin Flash+Root Guide & Stock Firmwares LE4/6/8/9/F/D, LF1/2 and flash with Odin
3. Hard Reset *2767*3855#
Follow this video tutorial: http://youtu.be/TEsBwtqY2xE to unroot your device.
Remember to make a backup first, just incase if anything goes wrong.
I have firmware XXBLFB (rooted) and have installed a custom kernel which I no longer wish to use. I would like to restore the stock kernel which came with this firmware release. I know I could just ODIN the BLFB firmware back and then re-root but it seems a long way to go. Is ther a way to use mobile ODIN with the firmware file to install Kernel only and retain root?
Thanks.
(Yes, you're right. I SHOULD have done a nandroid backup first!)
Where can I find the stock recovery for I9300XXBLFB so I can do an OTA update?

No such thing exists .
You want the non XDA Samsung update route then flash your original saved rom to wipe root ..
Or just update via Kies .

I didn't know that. How do I get it so it doesn't try updating through CWM Recovery? Can I get CWM off?

Stock rom flashed removes CWM recovery .
But you are confused CWM recovery does not update that is Samsungs OTA .
Stock roms are posted in XDA General and available via KIES if released for your phone or via CHECKFUS and flashed via ODIN .

I downloaded the I9300XXBLFB stock ROM and extracted the recovery.img file from it. I flashed it the same way as I did with CWM. It appeared to be successful but it somehow still has CWM. I have even tried the stock recovery images from the Samsung Galaxy S3 toolkit but still has CWM even though it says upload successful. What on earth is going on?? I can't use Kies because I am currently using Ubuntu because Windows on my PC is messed up.
Flash the I9300XXBLFB stock rom via odin and the stock recovery is back.
I have spent the day to figure out how to root an S3 with 4.3.
I´m no stranger to flashing but I get confused with all the threads and all the links, stickies and "how to´s" all over the forum.
Can someone please link me to the proper stuff I need?
* I know I have to downgrade via ODIN to be able to gain root and thereby get a custom recovery. But to WHAT version do I need to downgrade to? 4.1.2? 4.2.2?
* Is there an absolute STOCK deodexed 4.3 prerooted firmware that can be flashed after gaining root and custom recovery.
Just to make myself clear... the searchfunction has not been working today, so I have been making my searches via google... and that can be a bummer when looking for some handson instructions.
Can anyone be a gent and provide me with some links?
Best regards
Just flash a custom recovery with odin (I'd suggest philz) then the rooted 4.3 stock rom, you don't need root to do this. Chose the stock rom from several in the general forum.
Really? That easy? Great news!
Just a question... I have to flash the custom recovery and the flash the rooted 4.3 ROM before first boot? I have to enter custom recovery directly and flash the new ROM? Or can I boot the phone with just flashing the custom recovery, and then take my time finding a good ROM while running the stock 4.3...
Sweet jesus... I have been away for too long, damn Windows Phone

You may find that a stock rom will restore stock recovery on first boot, so you may need to flash your new rom straight away.
You could also root your existing rom just by flashing CF autoroot.

Well... everything went fine!
PhilzTouch via ODIN and after that a good 4.3 stock ROM. Just as mentioned above I just had to make sure in recovery that the custom one wouldn´t get overwritten.
I made a full backup... I have also saved that backup om a HD on my PC. However... when I made a backup of my efs-folder I couldn´t find the backup file efterwards. Not even as a hidden file. I choose to make the efs-backup on my SD-card. Any idea where to find it?
