Now that Samsung officially abandoned support for GT 10.1, will there any chance that there would be a usable, stable 4.1 custom ROM comes out for GT 10.1?
Well, I will probably move on to Samsung Nexus 10 unless it has serious disadvantages, but just wanted to know this.
CM10 is very stable, very fast and I don't have any problems on my 10.1 3G :good:

No, unfortunately it will be a mystery until the end of time. It's really tragic that with all these talented devs no one will ever find out how to stabilize a custom build.
(Try task ICS with Yoda kernel.)
Dude if you run preshoots cm10 with A1 kernel, overclock to 1.6, flash it via cwm 6.0.1.5, and install the bootloader via Odin your good I'm running it right now and it seems completely stable

Yeah I gotta say I've been running cm-10-20121017-EXPERIMENTAL. All day and as far as I've seen its rock solid bar a few bugs with the camers but that's just doing you a favour stopping you looking like a plank taking photos with a tablet.

Run the AOKP build with A1 kernel, its quite smooth, actually smoothest among all builds I have tried recently and added with AOKP goodness

What ICS roms are fully compatible with the HDMI dongle? I'm using AOKP and it's only partially compatible. Is there any known software workaround other than using a Sense rom?

Just a FYI Samsung uses touchwiz. Sense is HTC's creation. CM9 and AOKP are the 2 AOSP (no touchwiz) based ROMs and anything based off them as well. The remaining ROMs are Samsung touchwiz based. I don't have the mhl adapter so I don't know which works and which doesn't.

Alright, thanks! Any particular favorites among the other ROMs? Which are regarded as the most complete/stable? Ultimatum seems to be the most recently updated/released of the lot.
I'm a fan of SHOstock when using TouchWiz ROMs. It looks more and more like AOKP at each update. Like a specific set of AOKP customizations hard baked in.
That is the only TW ICS ROM I have used in a long time. I can confirm MHL works perfect in that ROM. It should would in any TW based ROM fine. I ran an early version of Mystics Pride (ported from i9100) and MHL worked fine there too.
The easiest way to tell the difference is the build codes. If it says its based on XWLP3, or similar it should do MHL fine. Everything but CM9 or AOKP *should* have fully working MHL, Gingerbread and ICS.

How is responsiveness/battery with compared to AOKP? I'm currently sitting at 96% with 5 hours off charge, 30 minutes of screen-on and wifi enabled.

Its great as far as responsiveness. Battery life feels the same. I have never really paid close attention to battery life.

Yeah I used to care more about battery life. At one point I even used task managers. Then I realized I was spending more time trying to get my battery to last longer that I wasn't enjoying the phone. So now I just ....use it.

I haven't tried the dongle with AOKP, but the D4 modem is working great for me. Depending on my location in central Texas, my download speeds have doubled.

SHOstock seems like it might have an aggressive task killer, I played with it for a bit, hitting "home" in Words With Friends, and it had to reload the app sometimes. Quite annoying, sleeping apps don't seem to do any harm to smoothness or battery life in AOKP.

Had a weird bug where the phone occasionally would get super-slow for a few minutes and then smooth back out, when I was sitting on the homescreen. Happened three times within the first hour of installing the rom but it seems to have quit now that it has "settled in".

In general, SHOstock seems to always use a LOT more ram. Something like ~400MB typical usage vs 250MB on AOKP. The OS is also twice as large, download is 220MB vs 120MB. I don't know if the higher ram usage is good or bad in this case - I don't mind apps being pre-fetched and left in ram, it saves battery relative to having to load them off of flash every time I want to use them... but it seems this isn't the case here as I was experiencing a lot of background apps being killed or slow to reopen.

Button brightness works as intended by Samsung. Touch the screen and the capacitive buttons light up and go dark again like they should, and apps like Screenfilter can properly make the buttons dark. In AOKP, button lights are either on or off, and the toggle is hidden several menus back.

Typing seems less buggy, I was having an issue in AOKP where (especially when using landscape keyboard) the text would go offscreen, such as when typing a post. I don't have this issue using SHOstock.

Touchscreen sensitivity is more pleasing somehow, I'd like to know what settings are used. Haptic feedback also feels different - more subtle.

Even with higher ram usage, all else being the same, the UI seems to scroll a hair more smoothly. It's a bit odd, in that the UI feels heavier but also tends to be more smooth.
As much as I like the MHL, I don't think I'm going to stick with SHOstock. I'll try some more roms before going back to AOKP, but I might just end up back on AOKP.
AOKP & CM9 and their derivatives *do not* have fully working MHL support. It's being worked on, but nothing yet (TvOut.apk is very buggy ands hows frames rather than a live view) (personal ROM preference in this category - AOKP)
TouchWiz-based (Samsung) Gingerbread and ICS ROMs *do* have working MHL. (personal ROM preference in this category - SHOstock2)
After reading this I assume that the stock ICS roms from Sammimobile, when Hellraised will have HDMI out. Any experience with this or comments?

I've just been trying out GT-I9100_XEU_I9100XWLP7_I9100XXLPS_I9100XEULP5.tar from Infratech's stock ROM thread for the last day or so and have found it slow. Often I'll touch the screen and nothing will register or it will take a full second or so to respond. Starting apps can sometimes take up to two seconds before it seems to register. Scrolling long lists in various apps can sometimes show a small amount of lag on Gingerbread, but on this ROM it's horrific.
This can't be right can it? Is anyone else finding this? If this is progress in the name of ICS, I'll stick with GB.

I don't know about stock rooms but I'm on cm9 the latest nightly and its pretty slick to be honest. I can't wait until the wake locks are sorted but I just love it! I hate anything of Sammy stock firmware I think they are kind of clueless in that department but good in the hardware side of things. Also people have been talking about Sammy working on android 4.0.4 so that should fix any issues. Hope I helped you mate

I've been on cm9 for the last few months, and I have just dual-booted lp9 Samsung ICS rom yesterday, and I just couldn't believe how slow and laggy everything was in Samsung ICS rom compered to cm9 and Samsung gingerbread rom. The browser was horrendously laggy compared to Samsung gingerbread roms and the same issues as described by the OP. Also, the scrolling mechanism was just screwed up beyond belief. I really like the idea of switching between cm9 and Samsung roms when I feel like change, but at the moment I find all ICS Samsung roms, just unusable after using cm9. I hope Samsung fixes this mess in their next major update.

cm9 to me is draging ics behind it, when ics is improved cm9 will be mint ,im still on Gb but will flash when it gets up to 4.1.0 etc, i dont want these bugs in my daily life.
I'm using LP7, tweaked some cosmetic stuff, and I find it very fast and responsive. A friend recently changed from GB 2.3.6 to ICS 4.0.3 official via Kies and said (his words, not mine): its a whole new smartphone.

or you can try hydrogenics, its basically the same with some added tweaks.

For me, ICS is smooth as a baby's bottom, as long I stay on stock kernel. Once I flash a custom kernel, smoothness goes south. For this reason, although I like the fast charging feature in Siyah, I have to stay on stock.

I found a ROM that was receiving a lot of praise, called AndyX. It's using Siyah kernel if I remember right. I tried it and it was actually very good, nice and smooth, no complaints. It also has the ICS look I was expecting to see which was quite nice. You mention lgcamera not working on AOKP ROMs - I'd never heard of AOKP but have just done a quick google and may see what's kicking around for the S2. I know this is the wrong thread, but it's thanks to you I can now record video in 720p without in looking like a slideshow (lgcamera tips in another thread)
So, in summary, my initial choice entering the world of ICS just turned out to be a dud and there's hope yet.
EDIT: I may well go back to AndyX for a bit.. I had to restore to my normal GB ROM because I changed governor in AndyX and now the phone freezes before I can unlock it

AOKP is based off CM9 with other mods flung in (Look at Resurrection Remix or Hydrogenics) and they both run smooth. However I NEED lgcamera unless I get horrible FPS in the camera (looks like you know what I'm talking about lol). Just so you know, 1080p does work as well without lag just in case you didn't notice. I do prefer 720p though. No automatic zoom in like 1080p. I used to be on AndyX rom, quite some time ago actually
I came from Gingerbread KL1 & updated to LPG, gotta say even though I had the phone for 4 days (on GB) the lag is very much noticeable on ICS! The phone was just blazing quick everywhere but it just *feels* different now...

What is overall the most stable rom that actually has up to date android features? I was reading the CM10 issues log and stuff like "can't receive calls when bluetooth is on" is just an instant turnoff. I know every custom ROM is going to have issues, but what is overall the best balance of modern and stable for the Droid X2?
I'd like at least 4.1, but I know the world isn't perfect.
Well since we are sadly on a locked bootloader it makes it difficult for us; The most stable roms are Gingerbread. CM7 is pretty good and is running android 2.3.6 i believe. Eclipse is pretty good and smooth but cm7 has overall more features. CM10 would probably more stable than cm9 but cm10 sadly gets some force closes(i never experienced this when i was using it )

4.1 is the furthest we have gotten. cm10 is 4.1 , cm9 is 4.0 . cm10 is WAY more stable than any ICS build we have. i use it as a daily, and if you dont use many apps, and can stand a bit less battery life, it is totally worth it.
it has curbed my want/need for a new phone.....or atleast until november!

I started using MIUI last night is sorta like iOS and and it uses ICS framework havent had a fc or random reboot yet no missed calls to my knowledge
I used the CM10a3 port and my gmail app was WICKED unstable, a flick scroll would not FC it but it would just close. I LOVED google now but due to compatibility*? issues i could not update it with anything google released. I currently run eclipse, although older has been the most stable, battery efficient, and usable rom on my DX2.

You know, with all the apps, launchers, keyboards, themes, etc., you can probably be pretty happy with a stable gingerbread ROM and make it look and feel like ICS or JB.
I'd run cm7 with holo launcher for that jb feel

at this point, i have been using cm9 for a few months due to the phone call issue present in cm10. whenever the screen turns off due to the proximity sensor ( holding it to your face) the call is lost and the phone freaks out. this is a phone. so that would not work for me. cm9 has better battery life, and a few more apps work with it. from what it seems, DZK has abandoned us. our only how on a better JB is g2yupie working out his 4.2, and it not having the same phone call issue. i say try out cm9. unless you dont make many calls. also, it doesnt do the proximity thing if you are plugged in. but any other time, under any other circumstances , it does. there is no work around.
So i just switched to Tmobile and got myself a shinny ATT Note. tried flashing a few roms. CM10.1 Avatar, Jedi, Blackstar, and a few kernels, Phase and Uber, and even a few radios.
so my question? is this phone slow for everyone? it crawls way to often, to the point of instability. lags overall.
thought it be alot better, coming off an EVO, EVO 3D, Galaxy Nexus LTE, this just seems like ive made the wrong choice.
its possible its just mine? if so gotta know so i can dump it!!
Did you do clean installs? My phone is back on a stock debloated att ROM and its doesn't fly but its pretty stable and smooth. I've had some really laggy Roms but I would start with at least a stock based ROM. Then search for a stable jb rom. I was on padawn and beanstalk and a few other Roms that where fairly smooth.

I experience no lag. I came from the HTC inspire and there is no comparison. I test out between 7500 - 8000 using the Carbon ROM, without over clocking my CPU or GPU.

did you test all governor/ I/O scheduler combonations. all phones react differently to diff setups. if not using the best setup for your phone you will get an insane amount of lag. but choose right and it will fly. my phone likes fantasy/sio/1728/384
I would not call the galaxy note a rocket ship! Some ROMS start out relatively speedy and then lag over time and require frequent reboots to free up system resources. I have found the debloated stock JB rom to be the best combination of performance and stability. It does what I need it to do, when I need it to do it.
The stock JB kernel is more stable than the phase kernel. I wouldn't bother flashing that if you are on TW based JB. The UBER kernel had great performance on the AOSP and CM based roms, but the ROMs themselves had some stability issues and other fuctionality issues. If I were you, I would do a complete ODIN flash back to stock, then start from there...root, recovery.....etc
Then see if you are still having the same issues.
The Note both fast AND slow...it just depends on what you are comparing it to.
I had my i717 side by side with my i9000 (Galaxy S1) last night...both are running SlimBean...I have JD's UBER kernel on the i717 overclocked to 1.8GHz...stock kernel on the i9000 (1GHz). The i717 was WAY faster than the i9000.
Then I had the i717 beside my brand new, bone stock, still bloated i337M (Galaxy S4)...and the S4 blew the Note out of the water.
Odin is worth the try. i never do dirty installs. always install APKs with no data restores. full wipes of everything but sdcard, been using Goomanager to do most of my flashes with TWRP 2.6.1 , but also doing it manually.
I've had my Note since the beginning of May and I can't say it's a laggy device. My experience has been that the Samsung ROMs are lagier than the AOSP or CM based ROMs but are more stable. On average with a Samsung ROM, I have about 200Mb of free memory where as with the AOSP or CM ROMs I get about 300Mb free.
A super fast ROM I can recommend for you is Carbon. Very fast ROM. Have it also on my Samsung Nexus S and it is really smooth.
Anyways, aside of the performance, the Note has awesome features that you won't find on other phones (or tablets )
Also might want to backup your data from your sd card and format it as well. Ive seen corrupted files on the ext sd card cause rom performance issues.

you make it sound as if you have flashed all this in about a 6 hour time span.
how long have you had the Note?
how much of a chance did you give ROM's to settle in?
your flashing kernals too? right kernel with right ROM?
again, are you giving that a chance to settle?
AOSP ROM's are fast and a lot of options, usually sacrificing stability
Touchwiz is going to give you stability and with Trickster mod, I get NO lag at all. never a reboot either
my phone has never run better than it does on Padawan.
I've been on latest stock for a while, but it became slower and slower during time, so I've decided to root and in give few ROMs a try. I've flashed OmniROM and Android Revolution, but my phone is still much slower and laggier in comparison to Galaxy SII (on neatrom) or Galaxy Nexus (on omnimetal). Even Galaxy S1 with latest CM works better.
I've also noticed that it takes very long for MMS to be send, perhaps it's somehow related?
Any ideas what else could I try? OmniROM and Android Revolution should be fast and snappy, right? What could be the problem then?

Backup any data you need from internal sd card then format internal card this solves many issues with lag especially when you switch between alot of roms like I do.

try blekota s5 rom it's very fast and smooth it's based on archiport
GTI9300 will be faster if you flash aosp roms like cyanogen mod or paranoid android. Prepare to lose some samsung features tho and have some extra bugs.. the trade is worth it imho.

Or do a mega wipe. Its mean full wipe + wipe system and internal SD And flash a new ROM
I can vouch for the Revolution HD ROM
About a month ago I switched from the pre-installed T-Mobile ROM to Revolution HD 51.0 on my Samsung Galaxy S3 (GT-I9300) and I have no regrets. Compared to the T-Mobile Rom, it is extremely fast and with very light battery consumption. In addition, I have not yet encountered any bugs.
The Revolution HD ROM is so fast that I have now begun using the search feature in the dialer - before, it was just as slow to scroll with the alphabet and finding the contact as it was using the search function.
The battery consumption is incredible! With light usage, my battery goes down less than 0.8%/hour. Even with high usage (>1.5 hour talk, ~1 hour WiFi/mobile data internet, >3 hour Bluetooth hook-up to my car, a handful of written emails and >30m sudoku per 24 hours) I have not been using over 1.4%/hour. I have gone from recharging every two days to every three-four days! My record was 97 hours without a charge and still 18% juice left in the box.
I use GPS navigation once in a while in my car and that consumes a lot of battery, but then the device is always connected to power (I haven't gotten around to try GPS navigation without charging just to check the consumption on Revolution HD).
I am not a techie, so I have disabled background services very conservatively (I killed most social app stuff, but I let services with cryptic names be) and I am using the Lightning browser which is fast and very light. In the beginning, I had a bit of trouble with battery performance until I read that the Power Saving feature must always be on. With the T-mobile ROM, the screen was a battery hog even when set on auto, so I set it manually - on the Revolution HD ROM, the auto brightness works well and conserves battery. It should also be said that I live in an area with good signal reception and coverage is good in most places I go (in areas with low reception, the device will automatically increase the juice for the radio unit).
I am very excited about the Revolution HD ROM, but I cannot tell you how it performs if you do a lot of social networking stuff (I primarily use the phone for work).

One solution is to format the internal memory like @tallman43 suggested.
Another reason maybe extra heat on processors. Did you notice this or the temperature is normal?
You can try flashing a different kernel and see if it makes any difference.
MMS sending is more dependent on network speeds so it could be unrelated.

try neatrom Lite v75 full with boeffla kernel and if u can find archi profile (performance) and u could clock to 1700 on boeffla config....i am now on resurrection remix rom 4.4.2 and phone is fast as hell ..it has minor bugs tho..
u can try AOSP NeatROM v 5.8
very stable and smoth. u can get free ram 400mb++
