Is it just me or is Kies the absolute worst phone connectivity software in existence?
I have been trying to do the firmware updates via Kies since they were released but keep getting the same error message (DLL Load Fail). I have tried the update on 2 PCs - 1 running Vista and the other running XP. I don't have access to a Windows 7 PC to try it.
Don't get me wrong, I'm happy with the SGS2 and apart from the occasional random reboot, I don't have any complaints. I would just like to be able to apply the firmware updates!
I've read a few solutions on another thread about using Odin, but I'm new to Samsung phones and a bit wary about Odin. Though I did a lot of rooting and custom ROM installs on my old HTC Desire so I'm no stranger to messing about with android hardware via unofficial means...I just don't want to be unofficially messing too much with my SGS2 since it's less than 3 weeks old.
Does anyone have a non-Odin solution to the crappy Kies DLL Load Fail problem?
NOTE TO ADMINS: Apologies if I've posted this in the wrong place, please feel free to move it if necessary.
I had the same problem (DLL Load Failure after firmware download) on two of my computers (Windows 7 SP1 x64) as well. After a few tries (including computer restarts and Kies reinstallation), the problem spontaneously went away - without any preceding configuration change I can remember.
If you continue to have firmware update problems and don't want to resort to ODIN you could try if a firmware update via Kies Wi-Fi (Home Screen -> Settings -> Wireless and network -> Kies via Wi-Fi) is possible.
In general, I do agree - Kies is the worst. It is really puzzling why Samsung Android phones can't just update via cell network/wifi like HTC devices (or even the Samsung Nexus S).

The answer is ODIN.
Seriously, just read it, read the SGS 1 forums etc... ODIN is what samsung use internally
I know this does not help you, but really, ODIN in 100 times more reliable and safer than Kies to update firmware. There are picture guides available right here on XDA.
also try running Kies update when you are freshly booted the phone in Airplane mode. Do not kill any tasks by ATK or in built Ram cleaner. Just boot > airplane mode> plug in and give it a try.
I have windows 7 and KIES is just soo slow, not tried updating firmware as have no issues with phone
(and not sure what improvements are included)
I have 2 computers and can only do certain things with either. One runs 7 64bit the other 7 32bit. One will work with Kies perfectly fine, and will run ODIN as well, but ADB is a complete no go.
The other will do ADB and Kies via Wifi, but nothing else.
Driver installation is the problem. One machine refuses to find drivers for SAMSUNG_Android and CDC_serial.
Works perfect for Me every time :-\. But odin works great too so to prevent any issues its prob best to use odin especially with all good support from xda

Absolutely agree it's shocking !
I have given up with Kies, but Odin is not working for me either!!!
It all seems to flash ok according mto Odin log, phone reboots, and then check the phone status and it's still at KDD firmware level ...
Any ideas what's wrong with Odin anyone?!

Lol this is exactly what I mean. People never doubt their devices. Oh kies doesn't work for me. There must be something wrong with Samsung and their crappy software. Oh no odin doesn't work either there must be something wrong woth odin too now. Kies and Odin work fine stop saying they don't. If it doesn't work the problem is on your end. How many freakin times... and I'm the one who is the troll here
Swyped from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
worst?....
its not great but itunes holds that crown by a country margin, had you forgotten about that?
er...
I never said Odin doesnt work, i was posting to try and get some useful tips on what i might be doing wrong rather than to receive mindless abuse.
And i am certainly not the only one with the Kies failure messages that seem to be rife.
Thanks for not even helping suggest what COULD be wrong on my side, which is exactly what i'm trying to find out. Troll
I honestly have been searching the internet and this forum for the last 2 days, and have found NO solutions for this problem.
In short, i am on villainrom v3.0. And i want to upgrade to ICS.
It is apparently officially available via kies because i have an unbranded handset. I plug it into my pc, and kies doesnt detect any firmware updates at all. So i decided to try and flash the ics rom using odin.
I did everything. Odin detects my phone when it is on. But as soon as i put it in download mode to try and flash ICS, odin does not detect it. AT ALL. When its in download mode, and i plug it in, in the bottom right corner a pop up says ''USB DEVICE NOT RECOGNISED''. Again, i'm sure i have the drivers for it because Kies detects my phone when USB debugging is off. And Odin detects my phone when my phone is on and debugging is on.
- I've tried it on 3 different pc's.
- The phone is definitely in USB debugging mode
- tried 2 different usb cables
- flashed different roms (using CWM)
- Drivers are definitely installed because odin detects the phone when its on, just not when its in download mode
- Kies is definitely closed when odin is running
I dont know what to do. its doing my head in.
Any help would be appreciated!

No you have a non official rom = no Kies update ever .

Since you already have root, you can always flash using Mobile Odin ensuring you use a CF-root kernel in the process. I won't elaborate further as you're clearly well versed in searching and digesting the entire internet.

yea i can see that.
forget it. i'll just have to carry on searching by myself and try every possible solution a hundred times until it works.
Thanks anyways everyone.
Hope no1 is offended.
I did tell you two common reasons .
There are as posted other reasons
Like no USB drivers or broken drivers .
Phone firmware faulty .
USB port faulty .
Wrong firmware downloaded .
Firmware in the wrong format#
Firmware in the wrong section of Odin .
But no one single this is what's wrong with your ODIN/USB connection .
Might even be worth trying the posted Samsung USB drivers supposed to be for ICS .
jje
if youv used 3 pc's and done it urself it means 2 things....
1: ur phone is faulty [i doubt it]
2: ur doing it wrong [drivers that is]
if ur phone install drivers while on, that means usb is working. you have to install correct drivers when in download mode, thats when odin works.
hope your doing that in download mode, iv seen ppl tring odin while phone was normally booted
As the title says, Kies no longer sees/detects my phone. Did the sammfiles/rooted update to my phone via odin and Kies wouldn't see the phone. Wiped the phone and forced an update via Kies with model number/serial number and afterward Kies still would not detect my phone. Any ideas?
Edited to remove the "task rom" comment. Got my devices mixed up

Have you tried to turn off debugging in the development section?
Yeah. Tried that. It's no biggie tho since I can still force updates if needed. Thanks for the reply.
Removing/Freezing/Uninstalling/Disabling etc... bloatware causes Kies not to work.
Installing CWM also causes Kies not to work. Because, in short, CWM replaced the factory recovery
I find that if I plug my USB cable into different ports on the front of my computer I get different results.. Might be worth a shot to try if you have more than 1 to choose from.
"Device Not Supported by Kies 2.0"
I've a similar problem. I ran Kies yesterday for the first time since the ICS update back in April and it began to update to a new version. After which it says, "This device is not supported by Kies 2.0"?! I've uninstalled and re-installed about 8 times today even the Samsung USB drivers and nothing! What's going on?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

it wouldn't work while i was rooted with gingerbread. i returned to stock and it worked fine. after that i was able to root after update thanks to creepyncrawly from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746181 and it works fine now. if you go this route make sure to read the whole thread first. you have to get another kernal before wiping or you can brick your phone. im using siyah-v3.4.3-nonswap by ktoonsez and so far so good. not sure if you have to update to ucle5 for it to work but thats what i did. i havent had a chance to try other roms. hope this helps a little

For me. This is what worked. First go into device manager (on computer obviously)and remove the phone drivers currently installed.Next turn off usb debugging. Then plug your phone in to a different usb port. Let it do it's thing. Unplug, turn on usb debugging, plug back in.Let it do it's thing unplug. Reboot into cwm recovery, plug in. Let it do it's thing. Unplug. Turn off usb debugging. Boot up phone. Plug in. Profit. At least this is what fixed it for me.Good luck. Happy flashing.

Nothing seems to be working to get ODIN to detect it :/
I tried to flash ROM with CWM it just says "(bad)"
If you've tried everything (and I mean everything. Not 2 or 3 things) including trying with different PC's, without a screenshot/pic of the Odin output we'd have absolutely no idea why it's failing. However, if you'd care to give us a pic/screenshot of the Odin output when you try & flash, maybe we can figure out why.

I would have thought my post was pretty clear. You're obviously out of your depth & shouldn't be messing with your phone. What we need is a pic/screenshot of the Odin screen from your PC when it's failing like this
I just got too excited when everyone was rooting their phones , shouldn't have done it at all :/
My problem is no (yellow bar) is coming out from odin when i plug in download mode at first it could but after i formatted my phone from CWM it couldnt detect anymore , and I tried with two other laptops and even a different cable
Im so sorry to take up your time :/
(ODIN just looks like normal when i plug everything in :S)
OK. I thought Odin could detect OK but the flash was failing at that stage. So you still can't get the phone & PC to recognise each other given everything you've tried.
Honestly, I can't think of anything else you can do. I'd suggest you keep trying tho. Not a lot else you can do beyond that (Unless there's something really simple/obvious we're all missing here).
Edit -Right. List everything, and I mean everything you've tried to try and get the phone & PC to recognise each other/get Odin to work. Every single little step. Details. The more details you provide, the better the chance you get your phone fixed. The less details you provide, the less likely that is to happen.

Ok , I have tried
-Installing Kies , samsung Usb drivers and every driver i could fine for samsung (ADB)
- I tried both ODIN v1.85 ,3.04
-different USB cables
-Diferent pc's (2 laptops)
-Friends S III ( sadly even his wasn't detected)
-Formatting every single option there was in CWM
-tried flashing using CWM (failed with installation aborted *bad*)
- I even ended Kies processor before running ODIN
- windows update
You missed:-
Different USB ports (and different USB ports on different PC's - you must use a 'mainboard' port, if you don't know what it is, Google it).
Try Odin V1.3
Have you used the USB cable that came with the phone ? Uninstall Kies. Reboot. Redownload Kies from Samsung website. Reinstall. Reboot. Run Odin as administrator in Windows (R-click the Odin .exe & choose 'run as administrator').
That's all I got given it's almost 3.30am here.

There, your friend's SIII wasn't recognised. You wanna pay a friend a visit to use his/her pc with no kies pre-installed. You go and get it's latest version and repeat all steps.
When you say "kies processor" you mean one kies application running or all 4 that there are actually running?

Well now I have reinstalled Kies , but this time when i plug the usb be in , I can hear my pc detecting it but ( Mobile USB Modem 1.0) fails to install in windows update .
and i've tried with my 2 other laptops without kies installed
oh and I end task for KiesPDLR.exe (said by someone in a post here in Xda)
Are you hitting 'end process tree' when you close Kies in Windoze Task Manager ? It's important anything associated w/Kies is closed, not just the main application.
Hello everyone, I could not find a good title for my issue but I will try to explain as well as I can. I own a GT-I9300 (International), but since last official Samsung's firmware update(Jelly Bean 4.3) I am not able to get my phone recognized by my computer. Phone is connected and it charges, but neither Windows or Ubuntu recognizes it as a portable device. I am concerned about UMS is not available on device, but my phone it does not even get detected! I also own a Galaxy SII (4.1.2) and it does get detected by my PC. I think that flashing a custom ROM could solve the problem, since it appeared when I updated official firmware, but the thing is that I cannot root my phone! Tried ODIN but since my phone does not get detected, ODIN does not do its job. I also tried rooting with framaroot and towelroot, but no success: first one says "Failed , try another exploit" but there is only one. And the last one says my phone is not currently supported, even if I change modstrings.
So here is my question: how do I root my phone? I don't know what else I could try. I have already reinstalled Kies and Samsung USB drivers but still not working. Also hard-resetted but no luck.
Hope you guys can help me out because this is really getting on my nerves
Thanks in advance!

The thing is that my phone is the only one that do not get detected every single time I connect it. I have already connected one GT-I9100 and GT-S6790L and both get detected. I already tried on 3 different Virtual Machines with Windows XP, Ubuntu, Windows 8.1 but no luck.
As I said in the first post, I think it's a firmware problem since it appeared when I did the official update, which was this one:

Model name GALAXY S III

I can see your frustration Now a few things technically it is a misconception that you need root to flash a custom rom you can actually flash a custom recovery with Odin full wipe and then flash a custom rom from custom recovery (only thing is you will lose all your data because you need root to back up your data)
Now I know the above statement is not very helpful because as you said Odin doesn't detect it (but I thought I would mention it anyway )
The reason framaroot and towelroot, didn't work is because at the moment the only way to root S3 is with Odin.:crying:
You may have tried this but I will mention it anyway first uninstal Kies and all Samsung drivers from your computer ( kies can interfere with Odin) Then try installing these drivers here >> http://developer.samsung.com/techni...Lhp1GqlWRy92Q60CX6PP1mF!80806326?v=T000000117 << If you have tried this then sorry.
Also when you connect the phone go to Device manager in Windows and try to look for your device ( it may say unkown device) it should have a warning triangle right click on it select update driver software and then select browse from my computer and point to the drivers that you have downloaded see if that works.
Another thing to note is if you are using Windows 8 you need to disable Driver signature in start up options ( Google it) for Windows to recognize the drivers.

I already tried uninstalling Kies and Samsung drivers. Also I tried looking for device on Device Manager but it does not appear when I plugin my S3, but it does appear when I connect other devices like S2 or Galaxy Fame Lite. They appear as portable devices.
I'm using Windows 7 on my PC and have already tried with different OS over Virtual Machines and still doesn't work.
And thanks for that note, didn't know there was possible to flash a Custom Recovery without root, but I can't since ODIN doesn't detect device :crying:
Then it looks like you are running out of options I would use another computer not Virtual Machines
Okay I'll give it a try but as I said before, looks like an firmware issue, not computer's. Why would my computer detects two another Samsung devices but not mine (which used to work until last update)
Me, too!
I'm having a similar problem. Last week my GS3 stopped working, and I bought another one from Ebay with a cracked screen and swapped out motherboards. The phone seems to work as well as a stock Verizon phone on Jellybean would, but I can't get my Linux, Win 8, or Win XP computers to even recognize that it's attached. Different cables, each and every one of the USB ports, not even a blip. Device Manager in Windows doesn't even see it, and yes I got the developer options unlocked and have enabled USB debugging.
I've got the Samsung drivers installed, and tried to install the CWM device drivers from the SAMSUNG GALAXY S3 TOOLKIT V9, but there was an error and that didn't work, either.
USB connection issues are usually due to Windows conflicts, driver problems or the lead itself. If all these have been excluded then you have either a firmware issue in the bootloader, which is very uncommon, or a hardware problem. The usb port is easily worn/damaged/dirty also the motherboard might be the cause.
There is no silver bullet to cure, test each possible thoroughly.

If all these have been excluded then you have either a firmware issue in the bootloader, which is very uncommon, or a hardware problem. The usb port is easily worn/damaged/dirty also the motherboard might be the cause.
There is no silver bullet to cure, test each possible thoroughly.

I'm 100 percent sure that it is not due a Windows issue, I have already test every option. I have not considered the usb port to be damaged or worn, which could be possible but phone charges every time I connect it to computer. It just does not get detected as a device. But in order to assume it is a motherboard issue I will have to put away my feeling that the problem is caused by last OTA official update, since this problem started there.
If it is a firmware update issue, is it any option to flash another ROM?

As I said on previous posts, I have already installed and reinstalled Samsung USB drivers and made a factory reset -one from config. option and another one from Android stock recovery 3e (since I cannot install any advanced recovery -or even root it- to flash a custom rom). Doing those factory reset did not downgrade my last firmware update (when all my problems started).
I also said on previous posts that I tried towelroot and framaroot with no success. As tallman43 says, seems like international version of S3 does not support those kind of one-click to root apps.
-----------------------------------------------------
So far the only options available (if my theory about latest firmware update is the problematic one) are:
● downgrade firmware: [Q] How? Odin is not working since my phone does not get detected;
● root my phone in order to install an advanced recovery and flash a new ROM: [Q] Any way of rooting phone without computer (apart from towelroot or framaroot because I have tried and do not work for me)? I read one XDA post from 2 years ago to root S3 via console apk but latest comments assumes that method stopped working.
● install an advanced recovery without odin or root: [Q] How?
● fix USB firmware issue: [Q] I have completely no idea how to do it. (Already played with *#7284# and *#0808# but did not get my phone detected)
Please I need help, this is really irritating me and I am running out of ideas

I guess I have found out what the problem was. It was not firmware (as I thought). It was the micro USB port (as boomboomer said) which seems to not be firmly attached to the PCB. AC charging just seems to work okay, but not USB connections. I managed to figure it out by forcing the USB in a specific position to get it detected for 5 seconds, but then it disappeared.
Yeah, it was not as complex as I thought! I will try to replace that micro USB port as soon as possible, thanks everyone for your help!
