Well, ICS is pretty much been dropped as far as development goes, though there is CanonRom and cm9 still available. Both are fairly stable, and for an ics rom have pretty decent battery life.
JB has taken priority and there are plenty of choices. AOKP Is a great place to start, it has a lot of rom options, but not so much it overwhelms you. With all of the current jellybean roms, expect a few issues. If you didnt already know, Moto has declared the photon obsolete and will not be giving us ICS. Meaning, we do not have the proper drivers/libs to fix some issues. The camcorder does not work. There is a slight lag in animations(but has mostly been resolved) Some games lag/skip. Battery life is hit or miss, but your probably looking at about 10-20 hours of use, 24+ if you standby alot. Overall, it is worth it for the JellyBean experience.
There is also CNA(similar to aokp, but more option), MIUI(iphone like), Paranoid(known for phablet/tablet mode), XenonHD (never used the rom too often so not too sure)

I'm using Th3Bill's (Jokersax's) CM10 jb rom 4.1.2 (1018 build) . So far my experience
+'s:
Very stable, minus the couple items below
Pretty damn fast (1300 mhz and 256mb heap size)
Getting about 36 hours of battery life with light usage (best i've ever gotten)
Updated pretty regularly (about a build every week)
-'s:
Netflix not working
Google streetview not working
Don't use the camcorder, but if I recall some say it doesnt work quite right
Original thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1787743
As Th3Bill is taking over for joker while he's on a break, the DL's have moved to http://goo.im/devs/Th3Bill/CM10/Photon

Thank you guys for the update!
About the camcorder - you mean that there is no camera at all or only the video rec is missing?
Of what you impressed, there is any chance to get any update/to get it works sometime?
Any other 'critical' things that missing at JB ROMs [that we had on GB] ?
Thanks again!

Camera app is there and it works, but the video lags behind slightly what you point the phone cam at. i.e. if you pan quickly from left to right to left it will start panning about a second behind where the phone is at.
Just tried the camcorder part of it, it lags as well and although it showed recording, I don't think it saved the video, or at least wasnt visible in Gallery or on the sdcard under DCIM/Camera (maybe they arent saved there anymore, don't use it so I'm not sure there)
Can't really comment on the prospects of getting it working as I kinda skim over those posts
Oh and the old thread got pruned and the new one is now, you may ask there

Hi guys. Why no one pulled the video library with the Atrix leak? Or someone is doing now? Devices as almost identical in hardware ... what problems are? In the radio part?

[Q] Clean and Stable ICS?

Hi, I have been asleep for a while now, so I was not watching the scene on 4.0 ICS recently. Now when I got my phone from second repair in last two months, I have noticed plenty of 4.0.3 ROMs, that seems to be more or less stable, with and without Samsung apps and so on.
Because it would take too long to check all of the roms and keep flashing reflashing modding, and testing, I got little tired of that now, and I dont have time to start studying how to cook my own ROM and do it. So I would like to ask you guys for help.
I am looking for some ICS ROM that would be as clean and stable as possible these days, which means, no samsung apps, no extra features, just clean android as close to stock from Nexus phones as possible. Dev should instead of adding new features focus on making the ROM as stable as possible.
Thanks for suggestions, as my signature says I am now on Simplistic rom, which is pretty good, but just wondering if there is anything even closer to what I am looking for you might see somewhere. Thanks for any suggestions
Official out in a few weeks... wait
Or flash one of many beta roms but may have a few bugs
And search ?!!?!?!? All your answers are already out there
I recently moved from Gingerbread 2.3.6 to AndyX Rom v5.3 which is based on Android 4.0.3 [XXLB].
Very good.....stable....fast...and good battery backup. You can give it a shot.
Official from samsung will contain samsung apps+touchwiz, which I hate, and same does Andy's rom, I have already tried his 6.0 version.

Did a nandroid of good old Hyperdroid. Im using andy's 6.0 version. Froze all the samsung bloatware and using the cm9 launcher. Been pretty smooth, widget locker runs like ass though so just sticking with Face Unlock for now.
Edit: Just needed to update Widget Locker. Working Fine now
Looks like you are already on a good rom. There are no stable roms yet.
I have tried almost all of them. I liked cm9 the most. Looks like it will be a rom which can be used right out of the box. But lacks some features since it is only experimental.
Wait for a couple of weeks, then you should have many stable roms to try out. Or in a month, or think we will have proper cm9

I'm currently on XXLPH and its been awesome, stock rom of course but i got rid of all the sammy apps and so far so good
Is with that one the vibration working for ringtones? On simplicity LP6 there are all vibrations except for ringtones... which is driving me nuts when using Instant messengers, where I dont want to miss anything, but tone is ridiculously annoying...
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
Edit: did anyone found out way how to switch off the phone waiting for second press of home button? it makes the phone feels lazy, when it waits like 500ms for second press, instead of immediate action.
hi there,
I'm using Westcrips LPH resurrection ROM remix V9.3... and really wow ! I haven't had any FC's or i haven't seen any crashes or something like that.. ? Its really weird because Android 4 is still under development... but this ROM is really ready for daily use !
Vibration with ringtone is within this ROM, You could delete the Google apps if you want bu using root explorer, The only thing that I've noticed is that the vibration don't works with notifications..
Ive already resolved that problem by downloading an app called: Sound Manager. And change the settings under 'Notifications' to Vibrate whenever possible.. And it works..
You should try that one

I've been testing the "resurrection remix v9.3 ICS black edition xxlph 4.0.3. full-wipe". Flashed it earlier today but I've had westcrips remix rom since v8.6 and it has some fc's but they are really rare and battery life is quite good. Also touchwiz has been removed and it has both trebuchet and nova launchers. Give it a go if you don't mind doing full wipe You can find a video of the rom from youtube or by searching android development section.

Not to be rude or anything...But is there a reason why this is your first post and you created this account in this month? Coincidence? I think not!
Promotion of your OWN rom? I think so!
Have a nice day!
ive been using this one for a bit, its worked out surprisingly well so far. still needs a few little tweaks but its surpassed my expectations (been on villainrom, checkrom, omega ics previously)
Pure ICS v6.1
The only thing I dont like ICS is battery drain. No matter what ROM I use, it drains my batt 1% every 8min when the display is on. I prefer CM7 and cant wait for CM9 to have its video recording fixed !

I havent experienced that at all, I had it go around 30 hours with 3.5 hours of screen on time and still had 30% battery life the other day. And there was a pretty significant amount of internet usage in that time too

use code *#9900# and disable FAST DORMACY and then see if your battery life gets better.. if you'd like to know what that is, check http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/9191759/Fast_dormancy_to_improve_smartphone_networking_and_battery_performance_
I would also vote for "resurrection remix" I'm using the 9.0 version now with the xxlph kernel and beside a few glitches it has been very stable.
Has anyone played with CM9 - ICS firmware, it would be great to know how stable that is.
Im using the XXLPH - but I have been have slight problems with Wifi Scan, it doesn't seem quick enough, not like the other android phones I've used.
Feedback would be greatly appreciated.

IMHO, CM9 is the best ICS except you can't record video using the camera app. Wait until the devs get the source code. Other than that, this ROM is outstanding! I think next month is ICS month for all

[Q] Wanting a new ROM, cant decide.

I have Eclipse 1.1 (old I know) it was great when it first came out and I flashed it. But now I need something new bc its not working as good, and I know theres better versions and other ROMs that are possibly better.
Any suggestions on which ROM to flash and why?
Depends on what you want. If you want a fully functional ROM I'd check out the latest edition of Eclipse.
Cyanogenmod 7.2 rc1 has a small amount of bugs, but is for the most part fully functional. HDMI mirroring doesn't work and that's the one and only downside to me. I still use CM7 as a "daily driver" so to speak. Lots of customization and with the hacks/mods found in this forum I get excellent signal strength, connection speeds and battery life. Wifi still sleeps when the screen's off, but with the v3 build.prop mashup it reconnects on waking within seconds every single time.
Cyanogenmod 9 alpha 3 is somewhat buggy as it's in its early alpha stages. There's no camera yet, but DZK already said there will be a fix for alpha 4. Same with aces miui. It's real slick, being on ics. I like it, but won't stay until there's a working camera and more stability. When that happens this rom will be simply amazing. Overall it's pretty sweet and at the very least, worth checking out/playing around with.....
MIUI4 will be awesome too once the bugs are sorted and fixed. As stated before- the next release will also have a working camera. MIUI is probably one of my favorites if not my favorite but right now its way too buggy for me to use. More so than cm9. Couldn't deal with the bugs Ace is hard at work bringing us more updates and when he finally gets this where he wants it MIUI will more than likely replace cm7 as my daily rom. It's a great ROM in general but I couldn't stay on miui for more than like an hour, personally.
Definitely go into each roms topic and check out the screenshots and videos if there are any. Also look for the working features and known bugs/issues. Honestly I say give them ALL a try and see what best suits you. I only really posted about the newer ones. If I remember correctly molten isn't being updated anymore after 2.3 and I keep forgetting liberty even exists, lol.......
Cyanogenmod all day
I started with Eclipse 1.3 and then went to 2.1 running scripts and about everything else with it. Then when CM9 alpha came out, I had to try it. CM9 alpha works great for me. I needed my camera, so I flashed back to CM7. When the beta version of CM9 rolls around, that's gonna be the ticket!
IMHO- CM7
I can't believe how smooth and FAST my phone is with CM7. The camera works great, very little to no lag at all with anything I have found. There's all kinds of customizations for it. I'm not running any scripts, only CM7 and SD Increase from the market. My phone is fun again and I'm not hesitant to show somebody up with a whyphone like I was before. Try it and see.
Also check out this thread for sure!!

Are you pretty good with computers, tech, etc.? If you want a fast update, just flash CM7 since it is on the same kernel as the version of Eclipse you are on. If you try to update to the latest Eclipse, you have to go through the process of using the SBF to get to stock, updating to 2.3.5 then flash the new version. Its up to you though. CM7 and Eclipse are the most stable ROMs we have at the moment until some bugs get worked out in CM9.
Thanks everyone. I am on Eclipse 2.2.1 as of right now (w/speedy script 7 and other tweaks/apps). Ill probably try CM7 in the future since its already on my sdcard.

Just remember you need to be on 2.3.4 before flashing CM7.
Man I don't know what it is but.....
I used to run Eclipse 2.1 and scripted to the 23498457890345th power maxed out turnaround wing dinger squared. I thought it was as good as it could get. But when I went to CM7, I giggled at what I "thought" I had. Hands down the way to go, until CM9
I would use cm7. Just because its stable and has the best UI in my option and has pretty good performance. or you could wait for cm9 to get more stable with a working camera and better performance.
Liberty 3
Just Rooted and Flashed for the first time.
I went with Eclipse 2.2.1 - because the HDMI support was kind of a deal breaker for me. (Netflix, FPSE, SnesEX, etc. on a big screen!) But I was wondering why none of you mentioned Liberty 3? I haven't tried anything other than Eclipse 2.2.1 so I don't have an educated opinion to share, but other than CM7 it seemed like Liberty 3 and Eclipse were the two other "stable" ROMs in the DEV section.
Is Liberty "bad" or do you guys just not use it, and why?
Also, I flashed what I *thought* was the latest build of Eclipse 2.2.1 (from the official thread) but there are only 5 pull down toggles on my notification panel - I thought there were supposed to be 7? Did I miss something?

I haven't been on eclipse in a while so I'm not sure if I'm remembering correctly, but I thought there was an option in settings to set those.
I can't say for sure why nobody mentioned liberty though, it might be because it doesn't offer much compared to eclipse. Also, it was supported for maybe 2 months max while I'm pretty sure nitro is still pushing out updates for the x2(somebody correct me if I'm wrong).

I loved cm7 as my first and only rom but my 3g sucks, dolphin force closes, camera is buggy etc I'm going to reflash before jumping to eclipse which I've heard is most stable ...
I loved cm7 but the broken orientation sensor in the kernel killed it for me. I now run eclipse 2.2.1. It was a bugger to get installed. Having to wipe cache at a different point than instructions indicate. And also I have a little touch-screen delay.

[Q] Front facing camera AND microphone on JB for P7510? ***Yes Experimental***

Ok, please read this whole post before flaming me.
I have a Galaxy Nexus. I've been running Jelly Bean for 4 months and love it. Settled in on CodeName Android. Great ROM. I install the nightlies.
I would like to put JB on my Tab but without a front facing camera it's a non-starter. A deal breaker.
16 months ago when I first got my Tab I used to check here several times a day and kept up to date. However, things settled in and I didn't need as much help on the tab. Now, I only come to the XDA forums about once a week. In fact, the only reason I come is to see if the front facing camera is working on JB. However, there's a ton of messages and it takes a long time to read them all just to find that one post that tells me it's not working yet.
And, I've noticed a dramatic hostility toward anyone who even asks about the front facing camera. Most people, like me, I imagine have just given up asking the question for fear of being flamed to death.
I was hoping that I could have this thread just to answer Yes or No, and which ROM has it going if the answer is Yes. It would not only help me, but many others that search through threads to find the answer. If, and when, the front facing camera is working it could be posted here by some caring soul and I could change the title of this thread to include a big ***YES***. That way those annoying queries with regard to the front facing camera, and their equally annoying flame replies can be avoided.
Thanks in advance for the caring soul that helps us out here.
No its not working on cm10.
Yes on an experimental cm9 build.
Beezer,
Good, this shows that it's not impossible and raises hope that it will become stable some time soon.
Thanks.
Bro - you don't have to rely just on XDA you know. If you're watching for CM10 updates, you could go to droidbasement.com. If a CM10 build is posted with a working front-facing camera, it'll be in the dev's notes for SURE. Just watch the blog entries.

Thanks for the tip. I went there, it looks dead. Nothing posted since August 16. More than a month ago! Has development on Tab ROMs stopped?
Also, in the Galaxy Nexus world there are at least a DOZEN versions of ROMs and CM isn't one of the top ones. Is CM the only one working on ROMs for the Tab?
I do not think Dev has stopped. The CM team has been working hard from what I have seen to stabilize CM9 + handle other concerns such as the MMC chip issue, and focus has just recently shifted back to JB. Only a matter of time I would think.
That said I have used that 8/16 rom and other than the lack of front facing camera it is a joy to use. I prefer the ICS experience for now personally and am playing around with mods and tweaks for 4.0 so happy where I am atm.

Can somebody tell me what roms has the front facing camera works? I looked for cm9 and AOSKP but it didnt say if work or not.
Pershoot had a hardware failure (motherboard). That's why no updates yet. Go to droidbasement.com and look for the experimental cm9 builds. I forget which one has it working but it shouldn't be to hard to find.
None of JB/CM10/AOSP ROMs front facing camera works. There's one preshoot's experimental kernel a few days back that demostrated that front facing camera working, but that was messing up other stuff bad. Preshoot did not make it public it is because it is quite unstable. I also read one the forum that most developer working on CM9 RC2, some of the issues they faced during build CM9 RC2 still needs to be addressed. However what they found out is they can fix the issues on CM10 much easier than CM9, that maybe make developers to move on completely to CM10.
I believe because Google's latest JB 4.1.1 is a complete android OS, it is less buggy, and developers start to realize it is relatively much easier to develop new ROMs based on JB 4.1.1.
so I still have some hope that we should have, at least, a beta JB 4.1.1 ROM soon. In fact, other than front facing cam, I am using 4.1.1 - Jelly Bean ROM that's AOSP release (pure JB 4.1.1) that Preshoot posted and MapleSyrup took over. Even if it says Alpha release, I am very surprised how stable it is - yes there's some tiny issues here and there, and no front facing cam, but other than that for Alpha release, it is rock solid for sure.
Any news?
Update
See the general section and look for: (Rom) CM10 Build Jelly bean 4.1.1. 27.09.12 New 3.1 Kernel Unofficial
Front cam works... over and out.
Thanks for the tip. I went there and looked. Looks like the camera is working but no microphone. I use my Tab a lot for video calls. Without a mic it's useless.
I'll keep my fingers crossed that they'll get this working.
Are we getting any closer to getting front facing camera and microphone working?
Bump. Any news? Or should I forget about it?
Pershoot had a 10/16 experimental up. Working front/rear cam, mic, it looks fairly complete so far.

Unfortunately it would seem the only thing that isn't working now on the CM build is the Keyboard dock. I am puzzled as to why this would be previously working and now broken but practically speaking it doesn't matter, I just can't use this until that issue is fixed.
Right now I'm on the Fourth Bar Rom and I must confess this Rom is so good I may not even move up to JB!

[Q] Stable ICS for Atrix 4G - BOTTOM LINE

Hi,
I find the posted threads confusing. I'm looking to flash ICS on my dad's Atrix 4G as he needs it for an app he considers crucial . Unlike me, he isn't very interested in experimenting with any exciting ROMs; he needs his phone to function: on and off, sleep, text, call, bluetooth, browser, camera, maybe music, without issue.
Fingerprint reader is not critical.
Is there a ROM that is quite stable in all these areas? Posts seem to say yes, but they also seem to say that stable ICS/JB is not possible because of kernel issues.
What's the bottom line?? Please advise me.
Stable ICS? No such thing. Been said countless times already. I don't see what is so confusing about that. Despite enthusiastic feedback from people, no ICS/JB is actually stable enough for day-to-day usage. That's why pretty much all of them get quite frequent updates.
Does the app in question not work on GB?

It doesn't, no. Unless there's a way to have ICS runtime environment or st but that sounds impossible
And the confusion stems from claims like "..stable enough for a daily rom!" in comments I keep finding in specific ICS ROM threads. I'm sure that's the enthusiasm you're talking about lol.
I've been using epinter's jb 4.1.2 for months. video cam & fingerprint not working. everything else, including photo-cam, works. and let me tell my experience and you decide:
in normal use, the battery can last 2 days. and seldomly, kernel seems to wake the device, causing battery drain. problem ends after a reboot.
I call it a stable enough daily rom. but it'll be your decision.

Hi,
I find the posted threads confusing.

As the dev team threads have said, the ICS/JB kernel alpha release is immenint. It may be an alpha, but it may give you the results you're looking for if combo'd with an ICS or higher ROM. Current ROMs are stable to a point without the dev'd kernel. While i recommend waiting for a beta to be released, you're more than welcome to test out the alpha once its released while keeping the usual advisory warnings in mind. If you don't want to wait for the alpha, feel free to try one of the ICS ROMs, but be warned, camera issues and battery life issues are major areas to watch out for. These issues may be fixed by the dev'd kernel.
Personally i've been using Atrics v2.0 and epinter's CM 10.1. Both are good.

The video cam, fingerprint, & force-wake are literally the only issues? Or just the most frequent ones? Bc that'd be awesome but if e.g. the phone part sometimes wont open or the text messaging force closes or similar issues exist then it may be a dealbreaker for him.

Same question re epinters; additionally, re the kernel - would that simply reduce the problems associated with the ICS/JB roms or introduce its own set of issues?
I appreciate your time/ effort.

I don't have any experience with Epinter's CM10, but from what i just read, comparing it to 10.1, it has the same issues. I haven't had any issues with messaging via ROM messaging app or via Go SMS. The kernel is supposed to solve the problems. However, battery life seems to still be an issue from what I've been reading. They disabled the camera for testing on the battery issue at the moment. At the moment, CM9, 10, and 10.1 all are running on variations of the GB kernel. While it was tweaked enough to make each ROM stable, the full potential won't be reached until the new kernel is implemented
The CM ROMs, in my opinion, are stable enough for daily use. Its up to you which ROM you want to use. As far as the kernel goes, I'll be trying out the alpha once its released, but it would be wiser to wait on the beta.

I agree with u man, Epinter's CM10 is great ROM and I had more issues with stock GB ROM than this. If u don't need video camera and fingerprint reader I recommend it to use CM10.

I have enough experience to say that these are literally the only issues i've had.
sms or phone or connection has never force-closed for me.
you might give it a try. it doesnt take so long to try and revert back.

This is true, just remember to make a nandroid backup (webtop optional) prior to testing out any non stock ROM.
With my setup, i've got backups of 2.3.6's 141 and 145, 4.0.4, and 4.2.1, and if i'm doing a straight restore from one to another, roughly 20-30 mins until i'm back up and running.

[Q] CM 10.1 official for i717 or not?

Supposedly 10.1 went 'official' for all devices that had a stable build, of which I thought we were one - but if you go to download it from the website, and do all the filters (samsung, phablet, cm 10.1), we don't get listed - you have to go back to CM 10.
What's the scoop? I'm really getting fed up with the absolutely stupid amount of lag (even after disabling and ripping out a ton of unnecessary apps), and am seriously considering moving over to CM - but since it's not listed as official/stable I'm a bit gunshy of suddenly going to buggy/reboot laden use rather than just slow/frustrating.

You are really exaggerating any flaws. Is your comment based on actual use? I went through most of the 10.1 roms and had little to no problems.
And the stock rom with bloated apps frozen is as smooth as I could hope for.
I don't think any rom will meet your standards . . . just sayin'

I don't know if I'm exaggerating the CM 10.1 issues - that's why I'm asking, are we on a stable build yet or not? As for stock/carrier ROM performance, I wouldn't call 5 seconds to unlock the screen into an SMS notification being frustrating and slow an exaggeration by any means - but outside of the rare app FC I agree that it runs pretty well otherwise and is why I've been content to run on it since it came out.
I'm a pretty easy pleaser as long as things function consistently and reliably. So as long as the crash/reboot issues for CM 10.1 are truly flukes, I'd be willing to give it a try. Does the i717 have a stable CM 10.1 build?

The stable build is listed, not sure why you did not see it.

I had the same question about the stability of the CM10.1 stable, and made a post. Some people gave some feedback.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2340057
I am using CM10.1 stable on my Galaxy Tab 2 7.0, and it works beautifully. But, I am not so sure about i717.
the msm8660 family *quincyatt/quincytmo/skyrocket/hercules* all have "stable" named builds from cm, though we dont actually have a "stable" 4.2.2 build
there is also another rom elsewhere that posts as "stable"
but until we get Bluetooth and Reboots fixed we dont actually have a true stable 4.2.2 build, some of us are lucky and avoid reboots and dont use bluetooth so we get "kinda a stable" build but in reality until those 2 main issues are fixed no one should be saying the word stable
but after all that said, if you set your phone up properly and dont bloat it with crap you should have a better experience then touchwiz
im not promoting my stuff over others but give uxylon+uber kernel combo a try. i havent had a reboot since june, but i dont use bluetooth so that issue doesnt effect me
*one of the keys to killing a lot of reboots on cm10.1/aosp is to turn off CRT
Looks like there's a new quincyatt stable release as of yesterday 7/10/13 for CM 10.1 - well, here goes nothing! :]
