hi just purchased a Verizon Droid Razr XT912 off ebay
the seller said that he hasnt paid the bill so the phone is likely to be having a bad ESN and wont work with VZN , ( i guess am fine with that )
I intended to ship the Phone to India
wanted to ask ,
1..... if this phone uses the normal sims or it uses the micro sims like those in iphones
2..... also I am sure if on ICS it can be used with any GSM operator worlwdie both for voice and data ? I hope its true
3..... my third question would be Camn it be used with a CDMA OMH sim as well , which are available there in India ?
4..... I hope the battery backup is decent on this phone ( especially when GSM radio will be used )
5..... what is the easiest method to root this phone ( does the rooting differ if you are using the cdma or gsm radio )
would b grateful for the help
Regards
someone !! anyone ?
for rooting:

Hello guys i have a bro who is in usa and he was using this HTC Sprint mogul 6800 .
And when my bro came to india that is two days ago i noticed his cell phone and he said if i can make it work here that is by unlocking it to some indian network that is Reliance or Tata etc then i can have the phone.
So kindly Help me out here i love that handset and cant let it go....
You guys have always been help so i hope i get helped this time too when i need it the most.
I think by nature CDMA networks do not necessarily have "locked" phones, but more so phones with ESN's that are locked to a specific carrier. I know nothing about carriers in India whatsoever, but you could always call your provider and ask.
I know I read here how one person soldered an RUIM slot on the back of a mogul and may have had it working in India. Let me try to look for one sec...
Read up on this, it has more links at the bottom: Convert 6800 to RUIM
There seems to be a more dedicated forum to your region HERE also. They may have more information than we do here.
Hello ... and thanks for the reply i have already been there and i have unlocked it already and i was not sure if its completly unlocked or not so wanted to have a look at Xda's tutorial as i trust this forum more then anyother . thanks anyways
I purchased my droid razr XT912 which may have a bad esn from ebay and got my number programmed with reliance cdma and am using it simless (non omh), calls/evdo/sms and all work well.
i hv put a blank sim card which does help show verizon wireless as service provider on lock screen as without sim it always showed no sim inside.
my question is if I will get OTA uodate to ICS or do i need to follow the other methods posted here.

Whether a phone is activated with service or not, theoretically you should get OTA updates. I've had phones in the past that did not have a sim card, as soon as I connected wifi, it would prompt to update.
I flash bad ESN phones to Cricket and they still get OTAs.
Tappin the talk
thank you for the positive feedback, no signs of OTA yet but i'll wait

Am in Delhi. Bad ESN should not matter. message me if you are in delhi want to know who programmed it for me.
I am using on reliance CDMA with OTA ICS and never faced any issue. Works on gsm as well after update.
if you want to use EVDO, u will need a verizon sim else only 1x will work.

Hi Nitin,
I have a Droid Razr XT912.
I have voice and data on GSM, and only voice on Reliance CDMA Sim ,Can you please explain or help me how to get CDMA data working through a Reliance SIM.I am from Mysore Karnataka, I also have a Verizon Sim which was for my Photon.

Hi all,
First of all sorry for my bad english,
Last month my nephew gave me Motorola Droid Maxx xt912 Verizon, this device is brand new one.
I injected CDMA from local provider and it works flawlesly, but the problem come when I want to use the GSM (for your information I live in Indonesia).
When I want to use the GSM with inserting local provider micro simcard I can make phone call and SMS but I cant use the data, I'm sure I already set the APN correctly. I tried with 3 other local providers and still cant connect the data. Right now the phone running stock ICS Rom 4.0.4.
Really appreciate It if someone can give me a clue to solve this problem.
Thanks and regards

2. what is a clean esn phone??
3. to use it here in india ..do i need to get the phone unlocked in us n den get it shipped here.. or i can unlock it by myself..???
plz help me with my queries..i knw some q;s mayb found on sm other threads..but actually i wanted all the info at 1 place..
thnx
1. Your friend could probly get it sent to you
2.Clean ESN is that the phone isnt reported lost or stolen.
3. The rezound is now global so im pretty sure that it wil work with a carrier that uses the 2100 radio frequency of the rezound

Well there are many sites that claim they will unlock your phone but i think it already is able to be used without any unlocking since all that needs to be done is go to the network settings and change the settings to GSM

This article states the phone is already unlocked

i want to get a razr maxx from ebay.. and usually the ones with bad ESN have a lower price.. I'm in Chile so my question is if i can still use this phone in GSM network in my country, even if it has bad ESN.
as i understand with the ICS upgrade all the XT912 were unlocked to work as GSM phones outside the US.
i dont really understand the ESN thing.. i know it is something related to Verizon.
the other question i have, what if the phone is not "activated" in verizon, now assuming it has a clean ESN, but it is not activated in any company in the US.. if i put my sim card will still work as a GSM phone? and in case the phone needs to be activated in verizon, if it has a clean ESN can i activate it from my country sending an email to verizon or something like that?
As far as I know you should be able to use it.
