Hello,
I've been trying to unroot my SGS3 several times 2day using the following checklist:
1- Run Triangle Away
2- Reset Flash Counter
3- Factory reset from CWM
3- Clear Cache from CWM
3- Clear Dalvik from CWM
(Here I noticed that "SYSTEM STATUS" turned to costom)
4- Ran setup for the phone
5- flashed several roms from sammobile (one for each run)
6- Booted rom
(Here it started bothering about messaging service crashed, after some googling I found that I should flash the NEE CSC)
7- Flashed NEE CSC
8- checked that the CSC is correct
9- done a factory reset
At this point I should be good to go... BUT
- Kies say that my phone doesn't support updates
- the device status say that it's modified
Anyone know what I'm doing wrong... I've done a day of googling, testing and failing, so fingers crossed :crying:
On your rooted device :
1) Install and run TriangleAway
2) When phone reboots, remove the battery IMPORTANT
3) Put battery and directly start Recovery mode.
4) Wipe your Data / Wipe your Cache / Wipe your Dalvik cache
5) Don't setup phone / Don't start phone IMPORTANT
6) Reboot in Download mode
7) Flash the latest ROM corresponding to your phone country or providers. For example, if you have Vodafone device, flahs Vodafone rom, not another one.
8) Reboot in Normal mode your phone.
9) Don't settings-up but go on Settings, and make a factory reset. It will restart and will be unroot. Statuts will change to Normal.
10) Change CSC if necessary ( *#272*IMEI# or use CSC changer on JellyBean).
This can be sumarized in 2 methods:
1) Run Triangle Away
2) Flash stock NEE ROM using Odin3 (from PC).

That is right but don't forget to wipe data/cache/dalvik and don't restart between TriangleAway and Flashing stock NEE ROM.
--Double Post--
The way I did things this time:
1- Install Triangle Away and reset counter
2- Pull battery as soon as the S3-logo shows
3- Entering CWM and setting factory reset, clear cache and clear dalvik
4- Entering Download Mode and flashing I9300XXALE8_I9300NEEALE3_NEE
5- /tried both/
5.1- Booting into android and taking a factory reset
5.2- Entering stock recovery and taking a reset from there
6- Booted into android and waiting for 10 minuttes in order to make the device status show
7- Making sure that the status is 'Normal'
8- /tried both/
8.1- Updating via OTA
8.2- Updating via Kies
9- Waiting for 10 minuttes in order to make the device status show
10- Device Status has changed to 'Modified'
Getting really confused here... Both update methods I'm using are official Samsung sources for updates, so I don't understand head or tail of what's going on here...
Basically your problem is that Kies does nor recognize the codes you present to it .
A Kies forum or even a Samsung forum may help .
Or join XDA and flash a stock rom.
Use CHECKFUS to download any current firmware and fl;ash via odin .
jje
I'm going to send it in to samsung for service, so I'd like to get the original method working... no chance for that?
anyone?

Have you tried restoring with Kies? I mean using Kies - Fastvareoppgradering/initialisering - WITHOUT phone connected! It will ask you for a model and serial number (both under the battery), and will show your last official firmware, then you can connect the phone in Odin download mode, and it will restore it. You might need to do it twice.
Sorry for the late reply, but life demanded some attention...
I've tried using KIES to do this with very little luck.
I tried
1)
- Run Triangle away
- Pull battery after applied
- Reset everything I could in CWM
- booted into download mode
- ran Kies restore by model and serial number
- started up
- Resetted
2)
- Run Triangle away
- Pull battery after applied
- Reset everything I could in CWM
- booted into download mode
- ran Kies restore by model and serial number
- Pulled battery on Samsung logo
- Reset via recovery
- started up
- Resetted
both of these leave the device with status: Modified
I'm all out of ideas on how to do this right about now... anyone else got any ideas?
Found this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1904099
Anything like it for the International version?
Run TA
Check counter=0 in download mode.
Use ODIN to flash a stock firmware.
After TA I get the following status:
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME: GT-I9300
COSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: No
CURRENT BINARY: Samsung Official
SYSTEM STATUS: Official
After flashing either through Sammobile downloaded firmwares or Kies-Flashing it changes to
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME: GT-I9300
COSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: No
CURRENT BINARY: Samsung Official
SYSTEM STATUS: Custom
and status is Modified
tried a factory reset at this point?
Yes,
Tried letting it rest on the homescreen for 15 minuttes and then resetting it as some guides say, but no luck
hmm, which firmwares have you tried?
I used DLJ4 for the UK to unroot yesterday and it worked fine.
I'm confused now...
I tried again from scrach...
- Flashed CWM through Odin
- Booted and installed TA
- Ran Triangle away
- Resat counters
- Pulled battery at samsung-logo
- Booted into CWM
- Resat everything I could
- Booted into download mode
- ran Kies firmware update using model and serial
- booted
- waited 15 minuttes
- resat to stock settings
- confirmed that status was still modified
- resat again
- booted into download mode
- confirmed that it still said "SYSTEM STATUS: Custom"
- Ran firmware update from Kies using model and serial again
- Booted
- Status Normal
Don't know what happened here, but you don't hear me complaining!
Thank you to everyone that tried helping me... sending it in for repairs on Monday =D
Glad to hear its sorted
OK, more confused...
Setting up google account and letting the mobile lay in the charger for a while... and when I'm coming back to it... it's back to modified

Hi guys, really need your help!!!
Been using Custom ROMs since Omnia HD. Loved the work of cookers, never had problems, ODIN is just so easy.
Four days ago, tried to flash I9100 from Lite'ning v5 to 6.1. So, as recommended I wiped cach with CWM, and then done proper FORMAT.
Once I pressed it, format started but didn't finish - the phone restarted, and continued to restart - stuck with boot "S" animation - so can't boot into system.
Then, tried as suggested to install VANILA latest firmware - tried it - didn't work. Keeps freezing in the middle of the process in ODIN - or - it says FAILED. Now, i can't use CWM - if I press Volume UP +HOME+POWER, i get "Mobile phone with yellow Triangle with PC signs" - left to the right.
Updating to the VANILA software doesn't work, so as Lite'ning V6, or any other versions of it. Without CWM, i can't boot from SD Card to other cooked roms, so please, any ideas will be MUCH APPRECIATED !!!

I have never tried this before myself, but I have seen some people recommend trying an emergency firmware recovery with kies. If someone else can chime in and correct me if I am wrong, please do so.
emergency firmware recovery with kies - will try now, and update status...
Solution doesn't work

This solution doesn't work. Because, all that I can do is to log into DOWNLOAD MODE, once I connect the phone via USB to PC with Kies ON, then the Kies doesn't recognise the phone in this mode, so there is opportunity or possibility to do an emergency firmware recovery - if anybody knows anything abt this - please comment ....

Put the phone in recovery mode with Volume UP +HOME+POWER (it won't be CWM because you tried to flash stock, it is samsung's recovery mode), "Mobile phone with yellow Triangle with PC signs" and try it.
Let me know how it goes.
just checking... when you flashed through odin, was kies turned off? Meaning not even in the background and it's (process) not present in task manager?
Because that's what happend to me when i tried to flash a kernel to my SGS2. odin failed too but good thing my phone wasn't bricked.
Anyways, I would recheck the custom rom you downloaded, it sounds like the file was incomplete, or damaged during download. Always check the MD5 checksum, or at least the filesize.
Some custom ROMs cannot rebuild a formatted userdata partition. Most custom kernels cannot do that, so doing a factory reset (wipe userdata partition, format data partition, etc) is not recommended.
FIX:
Boot into Clockwork Recovery
Format cache, format system, format boot, format userdata partitions
Boot into Download Mode
Use ODIN to flash to Stock ROM
Boot into Stock ROM
Flash Custom ROM (Lite'ning), DO NOT FORMAT USERDATA and DO NOT FACTORY RESET!!
Boot into Lite'ning
CM7 using codeworkx kernel (CM7 kernel), is the only custom rom that does not have a rebuild userdata partition problem.
for my i9100 i solved this problem
i have the same issue and i solved with my i9100:
unmount battery and leave it for 20 sec
push up vol and home and keep it then put the battery !!!!! put vol up and home still pushed
if ....if you entry in recovery mode wipe data and cache and .... voila...
sorry for my bad english...hope this will work for you guys !!!

Hi all,
I think I broke my Galaxy S (I9000). I hope you can help me somehow. Here is the history of things I already did/tried
- my phone was working and had cyanogenmod 9.1 installed
- I wanted to give my phone a little speedup and wiped the cache and dalvik cache partition (did this before and it worked before)
- after this, phone was in a boot loop (even the battery loading animation rebooted over and over)
- the download mode still worked, but no recovery menu appeared!
- as given on cyanogenmod homepage in the install guide I flashed ClockworkMod Recovery using heimdall
- after that, recovery worked again
- I copied the cm9.1 zipfile on my phone to flash it, wiped the whole phone (factory reset), but flashing fails at some asserts (even though I disabled asserts) that seem to check that the target device really is a Galaxy S (I9000) (unfortunatly, I do not have a screenshot and cannot provide one now)
- I also had a ClockworkMod backup I tried to recover, but it fails at restoring /system (unfortunatly, I do not have a screenshot and cannot provide one now)
- so I thought, maybe I can use a regular firmware and flash it with Odin3 (1.87) to make things working at least a little
- started odin, selected firmware and started, but Odin3 got hung at some early point, so I closed Odin after ~10 minutes (see screenshot odin.jpg)
- when I now start my phone, only two symbols appear which kind of signal a problem with a connection to a (PC-)host which I have never seen before (see screenshot startscreen.jpg)
I tried a lot, but now I am out of ideas. Can you help?

Turn off phone, remove usb cable from pc if it's connected, remove battery, wait around 10 seconds, while battery is still not in the phone press the button combination for download mode. While u still holding the button combination for download mode, force reinsert the battery. Now phone should go into download mode automatically. Connect cable to pc and phone and flash stock Rom via Odin. Good luck
Worked! Great! Phone is back in download mode. Unfortunatly my work pc does not detect the Samsung composite device so I have to wait until I am back home. I hope Odin is working then. As given, it did not when I last tried.
Can you tell me what kind of mode this is, when those two symbols appear?
Robert
It's not any mode, it just an indication that earlier download mode flashing via Odin failed or interrupted by user.
U probably need to kill Kies process via Windows task manager before flashing with Odin because it's known to interrupt Odin, make it hung at setup connection.
Hi,
brought my phone into download mode again and this time odin flashed succesful. However, Kies was never installed on this computer so I have no idea why it worked now.
After flashing the phone rebooted, but stated several errors. They are similar to those which appear on reflashing with the cm91 zip via recovery mode ( "unable to mount ... (file exists)" ). I have made a screenshot and attached it. You have an idea how to help?
I have tried both the 512 and the 803 pit file, same results.
Thanks,
Robert
Tried to re reboot after those errors, but the S-Animation of the stock rom during boot never ended.
Robert
I took another stock firmware, JVI, which contains also a CSC and PDA image. Flashing worked, phone booted, Works!
I will see how to come back to my cm91, but a great step forward .
Thanks,
Robert
Made it back to cm91 . Thank you for your support.
Here are the steps ...
- applied I9000XWJVI.zip with 512 pit and repartition (2.3.3 based german stock firmware)
- applied I9000XWJW6_I9000DBTJW2_DBT (2.3.6 based german stock firmware)
- applied cf-root-xx_oxa_jw4-v4.4-cwm3rfs.zip as this clockworkmod recovery is able to disable verifications before appling a zip
- applied cm91 zipfile
- restored my backup

Hi to anyone reading this
1 month ago i decided to try a custom rom on my galaxy S3
to cut a long story short it wiped my emei and i have had to send the phone back to samsung for repair
I have just recieved the phone back so thought the 1st to do would be follow a guide on backing up the emei
Ok most guides want the phone to be rooted
so i used odin to flash the phone with a cf auto root
and now the phone just boots into download mode!!
things i have tried is wipe dalvik cache and factory reset
holding down power, leaving battery out nonthing works just straight back to the download page
i have flashed a custom recovery but as soon as it reboots after the samsung logo im straight back to the download screen
i cant believe im straight back to having no phone again
i dont want to flash a rom as i have no emie backup
this is bringing a grown man close to tears
is there a product name in download mode?
if yes thats good.
since you are in download mode why not use kies to initialise your device.kies is the official way to fix things. download the software go to firmware upgrade and iniitialisation , enter your model no GT-I9300 and the serial number from under your battery. connect the phone to your pc while in download mode then if your phone is able to complete that process see if it boots , if not factory reset it. if it boots and imei is corrupt ,not there or generic, . then flash a stock rom that has an mg2 or mg4 baseband using odin
good luck
Check which auto root file you used
Hello all,
So, let me keep it as short as possible.
The incident
I was talking on the phone, after the call i tried to hang the phone and there was just a black screen (phone stuck).
Pushed Power button steady and the phone rebooted and never boot again.
Mobile bio
The phone was rooted (2+years ago with CF Root)
Rom was stock European 4.1.2
I have available a full nandroid backup (boot.img etc)
The latest Custom recovery i had installed was CWM (ver. 4 something).
Current status
The phone is stuck at boot with a yellow triangle.
The phone can get to download mode (and be recognized by odin)
The phone cannot get to the recovery menu, (to be more precise when i press vol+, home, power the phone finally gets to a black screen {no backlight} but it is recognized by the command "adb devices" as in recovery status)
Kies cannot connect either in recovery mode or download mode. (Stays in connecting message).
Tried the following
Installed various kernels (Siyah-s2-v4.1.5, Siyah-s2-v5.0.1 etc)
Installed various roms (including stock roms) via odin with NO error.
Installed the original .pit file for 2Gb S2 system memory.
Tried the flashing method with 3 separate files (CODE_I9100XXLSJ.tar, CSC_HOME_OXX_I9100OXXLS1.tar, MODEM_I9100XXLS6.tar) via odin appropriate fields.
Tried two different Odin versions (1.85, 3.07)
So after trying all these, i finally rest my hopes in the community.
I really hope there is something more i can do, in order to fix my phone.
Thanks in advance for your time and effort.
Hello again...
Still trying to find a solution...
Some more info, in download mode i get the following info:
Custom binary download: YES (1 counts) and it doesn't change no matter how many times i flash anything through odin.
Does this count change only if you flash a new rom via recovery?
Anyway, i'm pretty desperate so i keep on trying to find a solution...
ANY help appreciated.
Hello a few days i restored my galaxy to factory settings from inside the own phone settings everything was working fine until a couple days ago the phone started to rebooting every now and then
Right now is stuck on the samsung logo after you turn it on and in the recovery menu i got this error
E: failed to mount /efs (invalid argument)
I try to wipe the cache date and even doing a wipe from the recovery menu but nothing when the phone turn on and gets to the samsung logo it stays there a while and reboots again
I try doing this instructions from this post from another forum
The key for me was selecting the second item in the Tools menu (Firmware Upgrade and Initialisation?) - it seemed to bypass that whole 'connecting' process and just went to work. Here's the writeup that I put together (I need to insert the Kies screenshots that I captured).
- if you don't already have the Kies software installed on your PC, download it (just search Google) and install it. The first time it runs it'll update itself to the latest version so make sure you run it once before proceeding.
- put your phone in Download mode: with the phone completely off, press and hold the Volume Down and Home and Power buttons simultaneously, and release them all when you see the Samsung splash screen
- connect the phone to your PC with the USB cable that came with the phone
-- if you've never had the phone connected to your Windows-based computer before, you'll see messages about installing drivers, etc - just wait until this is done (may take 5 or 10 minutes) [I don't know what happens if you have a Mac - it probably just works]
- in the Kies software, select the second item in the Tools menu and just follow the prompts to enter the model number (in CAPS) and IMEI/Serial Number (both found under the battery - it's ok to remove the battery at this point)
- the Kies software should start downloading the correct firmware for your phone from the Internet; once that's done (depending on your Internet connection speed) it'll begin downloading that to the phone (this probably takes 10 minutes or so)

I manage to do all the steps but nothing now the phone turns on and it gets stuck on the samsung logo but this time it doesn't reboot it just stays there and in the recovery menu still have the same error
Does anyone have any solucion or a guide that explaings well how can i fix this?
I have seen other guides that saids i need to either root the phone and install a custom recovery menu but since the phone doesn't boot i have no clue how to do this
Edit: A few moments ago i tried doing this as well (i cant post the complete youtube link)
watch?v=xJMJLdzHaAY
The phone now turn on but i have a black box with some yellow letters i'm guessing is the called safe mode is there anything i can do from here?
Been honest i'm completely lost here
Can someone please give a valid link to download?
Edit: Sorry, wrong post.
You can try flashing a recovery (cwm official is best) via odin but most likely you'll need to flash a stock rom, definitely if the cwm flash doesn't solve it.

is there any tutorial on how to that for the I9300? because i to be honest without a tutorial i dont have a clue on how to start doing this, i will actually prefer a stock rom is by stock rom is a official firmware from samsung
