[Q] Would this be possible? - Motorola Droid RAZR

As an owner of a fairly useless webtop, I was curious to know if it is POSSIBLE to install a native version of linux over the webtop mode (similar to how bootmenu manager uses it as a secondary partition) and specifically set it up to be used only with the webtop?

Anything. Is possible and nothing is possible unless we dream it.

[Q] Few questions about Aura ROM

Hi, I was looking forward to install Aura ROM on my Atrix 4G. First of all, I was wondering if I can ask a few questions about how the phone will perform with the upgrade.
a). Mi first question is. ¿Will Aura ROM + 1.3Ghz faux Kernel improve my battery life?. Because my battery is lasting just 12 hs-14hs with only 1 hr of wifi / chatting / media / 3G usage. Will the overclock reduce my battery life? or does Aura come optimized to perform better than the stock phone?. If I set a kernel that uses stock speeds I would get a better battery life?.
b). Is the WebTop hack compatible with Aura ROM?.
c). Can I restore my previous configuration and apps by using titanium backup?.
d). Will my phone recognize ext4 formated sdcard?. And if not, is there a way to do it (I would like to have the possibility to carry files larger than 4GB)
e). Blurred edition comes with all the stock apps Am I right?.
Thanks !!
Regards.

I am running the latest faux 1.3 kernel and have not noticed much difference in battery life. Try it and see what you get. Very easy to flash kernel back if you need to. However be aware that changing the rom to Aura (or any other rom) most likely will affect your battery life- You will need to optimize it for your new rom. Do a search for the procedure.
>b). Is the WebTop hack compatible with Aura ROM?.
What do you mean by Webtop Hack? Standard Webtop, Full Debian Mod, Webtop2sd? If Aura does not come with the Webtop, you can flash it with the Fruitcake Addon. And I believe Aura works with all of the other 2 Webtop "Hacks" I am about to flash Aura because I am running Darkside 4.2 and I cannot get Webtop2sd running with it.
>c). Can I restore my previous configuration and apps by using titanium >backup?.
It should. However this is where you need to spend some time and research if you want to make sure you do it right so that you do not lose all of your stuff. Store to your external Sdcard and you can copy it off to your PC
>d). Will my phone recognize ext4 formated sdcard?. And if not, is there a >way to do it (I would like to have the possibility to carry files larger than >4GB)
I know that the the latest Faux Kernels enable Ext4, but I do not believe android can make use of it yet. I think it is still Ext3. Not too sure about this though. You might need to do a little more research on this.
>e). Blurred edition comes with all the stock apps Am I right?.
Yes it should come with all of the standard Motoblur apps. And if you do change your Rom to Aura, Kernel to Faux, etc get ready to have a few sleepless nights flashing it many times to get it just right. Of course that is the fun of doing it, right?
Hi,
Thanks for the complete reply. Im on vacations now so having sleepless nights trying to flash my phone isn't an issue. .
About ext4 format, if its not compatible with Android, but Android supports ext3 (as you said in your reply), its fine, because ext3 supports files bigger than 4GB (4TB is the maximum size).
Again, thanks for your help, very useful.

[Q] Android Conversion

I would like to convert my TP to Android is there a current definative entry somwhere that will give me an answer to the following questions without me having to read 500 replys which just seem to confuse.
I have and Samsung Galaxy S2 and am familar and comfortable with Andriod.
1. Am I going to be disappionted with the best Android conversion?
2. Which is the best conversion
3. Is it reversable (Can I get back to the HP sotfware)
4. What functionality will I loose in relation to the HP software
5. What functionality will I loose in relation to Galaxy S2
Any clear answers would be appreciated.

1. If so, you have ridiculously high expectations. The biggest annoyance I have is needing to toggle wifi off and on every once in a while when waking up from sleep.
2. I assume you are asking about which ROM. I prefer XRONified.
3. Using webOS doctor you can get back to stock
4. None (other than the disk space needed to house Android).
5. Your Galaxy S2 has nothing to do with this.
There is a good video on how to install CM7 on the Touchpad here, just use the latest alpha 3.5 zip instead of the alpha 1 in the video, everything else is the same:
http://youtu.be/fHoQM3KW1sU
CM7 is pretty stable now. There are a few small issues you'll get every now and then but it is usable as a primary OS now. Its Android 2.3 based so its the same OS that is on your Galaxy S2 but with a different launcher. Any apps you use on your S2 should work in CM7. Unfortunately until we get an ICS port there are many tablet apps that require Android 3.0+ and will not run on the Touchpad.
If you follow the instructions in the video you will be installing moboot which allows you to dual boot Android or WebOS. So if you don't like something in Android its very easy to boot back into WebOS.

Also, if you want to go straight to XRONified, you can download the latest XRONified, rename it exactly the way that the CM7 alpha is named and follow the instructions as is.
Thanks
for all your help
Will try it and see

Also to add to the above posts, the android ROMs out there still does not support the inbuilt Camera and there is audio distortion when the screen turns off. Apart from that everything looks and works great

Not only is it reversible most of us set them up as dual boot so you can choose whichever OS you want to load from the boot menu..

Chainfire on SGSII

I have Chainfire 3D purchased from a long time ago (from the time i was using it on my spica), now it come to my mind..... is it useful in any way on the SGSII?
Is it recommended or will it improve anything?
I currently use MIUI.... is it even compatible with this rom?
Thanks!
I believe this app was first developed for the sgs2 because of incompatibility of a lot of games with Mali when the sgs2 came out, you can use for terrace games and such.
Requirements
- OpenGL ES 2.0 (every 1ghz+ phone has this)
- SuperUser / Root
- Writable /system (it will try to remount system as read/write when needed, but the changes need to stick between reboots)
- S-OFF ?
- Having root access from recovery is a big plus to solve problems if you run into them (run "/system/lib/cf3d_uninstall.sh" as root to remove the driver and restore the old one)
CF3D driver installation
There is some risk involved, so you should have either root access in recovery, a CWM backup, or a firmware to flash handy. Nevertheless, the driver has been tested and found working on the following devices:
- HTC HD2
- Samsung Galaxy S
- Samsung Galaxy Tab 7"
- Samsung Galaxy S II
- Samsung Epic 4G
- Motorola Atrix 4G
- Motorola Droid 2
- LG Optimus 2X
- Google Nexus S
It's likely to work on far more devices. So far nobody has reported a failed install, so that's good. Doesn't mean problems can't happen.

Chainfire didn't mention ROM requirements, looks like it's based on hardware and root.. i think you'll be fine

It is useful for the I9100, yes. Some games (like "Need for Speed: Shift") need it to be running in a certain compatibility mode for the graphics to be rendered correctly.
It should be noted that other games, (like Gameloft's "Backstab") actually need it to NOT be running in order for the game to run. (at least, in my experience)
Bottom line: As i already have it purchased, just better use it?

Bottom line: use it if you need it. If you don't need it, you don't need to use it. It's not something you need on all the time. (which you should have been able to figure out by my previous post, that said at least one game DIDN'T work while it was running in compatibility mode)

[Q] Stpid Question new RAZR MAXX

I just got a new RAZR MAXX and was wondering should I hold off on rooting it until after the ICS update or should I go ahead and use Motofail on it with the root keeper app. I just don't want to mess it up from getting the ICS upgrade. Also when I do root it will the SQL modification still correct the entitlement check. Coming from BIONIC so I am somewhat familar with the phone.
Feel free to root before ota. We have a span of a week or two before ics, might as well. However, be sure to go unto the superuser preferences and update the su binary before updating. To root ics you have to set the phone to either media device or camera something for it to work (mass storage mode doesn't work, Idk about the camera mode) You can use Matt's utility to root ics or gb.

[Q] Is it possible to copy/backup JB 4.1 and flash it to another device?

I'm planning on getting my wife a tablet for christmas and the one I found is running Android 4.0, is it possible to copy my backup recovery from my N7 and root and flash the other device? If so, I'm open to suggestions on other roms. (Trying to not sound like a noob).
If the tabs are equal, then yes (otherwise no).
I have similar situatiom. I have 2 same tablet, with different software. I like to use other software in both devices. How i can load rom from it. Is it possible without rooting? If i use cwm with manual setting will it change my original rom?
