yes same.

yes u are the only one, u've been cheated by sony. lol
anyway some of the ram were reserved for system use.
all android phone are like that. galaxy s2 and galaxy note only showed 7xxmb ram in phone setting while they do actually have 1gb of it. its not a big deal.

maybe it reserved for rom or kernel, baseband ?

Out of the 512 mb of ram capacity 3xx is available for Linux user space rest is for the kernel and operating system to load essential services optimally and lag free.

It's the same for everybody, don't worry, but, if you think that your ram is too low, you may use swap(only with microsd class 6 or more) or compcache(only with an overclock 1,4GHz or more)

Swap can be done with microSD class 4 too..But for exchange, loading time for apps is longer tho.

Xperia U Game Comaptability

Hi guys I'm planning on leaving my little wildfire and get a xperia U but i would like to find out two things:
1.Are the following games/apps compatible with xperia u?
Temple Run
Modern Combat 3
Fifa 12
Brothers in arms 2
Skype
Instagram
2. Would you recommend xperia u to me or shall i go for another phone(if so please specify)
Thank you so much for taking your time reading this!
Yes ... All of them are compatible..
Pros -
1. High resolution ( 280 ppi ) so no pixelation
2. Powerful dual core 1 GHz and Mali 400 MP Gpu
3. Bravia engine
Cons.
1.no sd card support.. You are stuck with 4 GB
2. Poor speakers .. Audiophiles will have a let down..
3. Less RAM 350 MB EFFECTIVE..
4. Uninspiring design..
A better catch would be Sony live with walkman with extremely incredible sound .. Thanks to dual speakers and xloud... Specs are same as xperia u except for cores, screen and resolution... But plus point .. It had sd card support...
Others phone to consider are Huawei g300 and Motorola defy +..

I have WT19i and I would not buy it again.
Why: bad screen (blur effect) makes games look ugly
low resolution (some of best games not working)
you need few times to put headphones in to get them recognized
really laggy ICS update, you cant play anything on it!!!
If you dont need more than 4 gb storage go for U,if you need SD Card go for Sola with is 50 Euro more expensive any little more ugly.
Anyway its your choice.
EDIT: Xperia U does not have 350 mb of ram but 512 and will also get 3.0 kernel with ICS update.
EDIT2: All games you said works for me.
EDIT3: Apps works to.
Relax bro .. I'm not compelling him to buy walkman... Ha ha.. Yep you're right .. Sometimes low res. Seems frustrating .. But I haven't experienced major lags so far .. Also speaker quality is awesome .. You agree with me right ? Hmmm...
I know u has 512 MB RAM , but system apps also take some bites.. So we get ~ 350 MB EFFECTIVE.... Btw thanks for your reply ...

Yes speakers are awsome but sound output are not, when I connect it to speaker my Ipod 2g gives better and louder sound than WT19i.
EDIT: Tested new update for WT19i it looks they improved performance and removed most lags but its still not as smooth as it should be.

Play Store said NOVA 3 wasn't compatible with my Xperia U until I updated my ST25a (6.0.B.1.564) through flashtool with the 6.0.B.3.184 ST25i firmware (which made it a ST25i for Play Store) so both the update and the "re-branding" could be the reason I have access to apps i didn't have before.
all those apps work, including nova 3 and most hd games. skype works fine with video calling. love my xperia U. go for it.
DO NOT buy htc one V. nice phone, but cant play hd games, and lags alot after a few days... plus headphones quality on xperia U is great, and with mods amazing! also, dual core and mali400 gpu is a HUGE advantage, and with scripts u have effective arround 6gb of space to use.
and 300+ ram is good enough. as long as ur phone dosnt lag and u can play hd games, whats the difference?
They all work great without any lags on xperia u...and no matter what..don't go for htc one v as you get many more features in xperia u at the same rate!!

So far i'v tested most of the roms and the stock ICS is the best with RAM consumption with 120+ free ram.
What do you think is the best ?

pressed thanks by mistake...instead of quoting
m on aosp rom from the day it was released...
u want negatives ( I luv this rom and no offence to developer coz I luv him too for compiling this rom )
1. call rings are absent ( it rings only for first call after restart ) ... some say fixing permissions in cwm fixes it bt it didnt worked for me
2. wifi tether not working
super pros also - no need to restart the phone every second day coz ram management nd battery r superb....
this rom is smooth as hell ... u would start hating stock rom..

Ram expansion upto 80 mb without lag!!!!

for those who want a smooth swap with 0 lag:-
1.get a class10 sd card(sandisk ultra recommended)
2.get roehsoft ram expander from playstore.( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.swapit.expander.de )
3.set swapiness to60
4.allocate a 512mb not less n i dont know about more(important).
5.enjoy a butter swap .
my report from above procedure
apparently having 409 mb ram n this figure is going up with 0 lag n smooth ui n also flying multitasking(3-4apps at a time)
edit-
430 mb ram!!!!360 ram + 70mb swap(in use)
edit-
439 mb ram!!!!!!360 ram +79mb mb swap (in use):what: that is with no lag
NOTICE:-
(i am not responsible for any loss of finance or anything else....i am not forcing anyone to do this i f u r doing this then its your own will...so no responsibility[this procedure of increasing ram is not healthy for sdcard n can decrease its life considerably, thanx to madfysh for giving me idea])

Then since you knew that already, you could add that it's not healthy for the sd card, not just that there could be financial lost, which is some sort of general notice.

My pa's a110 has 307mb ram used and about 167mb free

The theory is like Intel GMA graphic, it's shared the system RAM as their video memory, and also depend on different GPU
Like my sola, it got 512MB RAM, but system accessible only 387MB, so mean my Mali-400 take 125MB RAM as their video memory.
Is there a way to disable the GPU when not needed like when messaging, calling or keeping the phone on standby?? It will save much ram and battery

increase in ram is not possible(only by hardware changes)
but ram usage can decrease by dwleting floatwares which causes many processea
As stated above RAM is not changeable on Smartphones.
But you can root your phone and Flash a custom ROM which decreases the RAM usage by applying Optimization tweaks and removing bloatware.
thanx
