The new DMCA doesn't allow for the rooting of tablets but allows for the rooting of phones.

Technically they are portable music players so you should be OK.
Is this new DMCA stuff US only?

There have already been a few threads about this issue. Solution..pay a measly sum for the premium ap.
I started a thread about the same issue then i decided to pay the 1.50 for the premium app and it was a smart choice would have done it sooner if i had the chance you wont be dissappointed

I'll say that some of the best apps I have, I paid for. Especially titanium backup pro....wow. That one pays for itself with the time it saves me during restores on flashing roms with my infuse.
OK so I'll buy it. I can't believe the free one wouldn't work though. Strange.

Not trying to be a buzzkill for people who bought the XDA app or anything but I'd highly recommend getting the Tapatalk app instead, which is basically the same app but without the XDA "skin". It's also more regularly updated and you can use it to access other forums. The development for the XDA app seems to have pretty much stopped.

I did consider the Taptalk app but i thought buying the XDA app was more appropriate as i was donating towards the good of the XDA community. It`s the lifeblood of us Android fanatics.

I bought the XDA app for that reason, but I use the Tapatalk app. Had I realized that the XDA app wasn't going to be updated frequently for bug fixes I wouldn't have bought it. Supporting XDA is one thing (I have an 'I supported star' for example) but buying an app and having it not work is something else, which is why I personally recommend people buy the tapatalk app. It works, gets updates for bug fixes, and handles most of the forums out there, not just XDA.
I propose the creation of a rom focused on security. Possibly implementing whimper core systems into the rom complete with a tor router and browser. If anyone has any other ideas to add id like to hear them. Is any chef up for the challenge? I predict that you would have a rom that people with every devise would want.

Really? No one is interested? Android allows for some pretty unprecedented mobile security and anonymity tools. I guess i'm the only one wearing a tinfoil hat.

If you carefully follow directions, then it's never really scary.
One click root apps are pretty old now, they don't work on newer devices, so you'll probably have to "get your hands a little dirty" of you want to root

Probably, just don't pay too much. I'd say $15 is MAX, really don't want to get ripped off. Also, make sure you have some sort of "warranty" like if they brick it then they owe you a refund and full price of the tablet

I got this email after talking to Sony:
Thank you for your recent email. We appreciate your feedback and concerns. We acknowledge that you would like Sony to unlock the boot-loader and root for all Sony Tablet models. Although the Android is an open source platform, Sony as a manufacturer reserve the right to modify this on the Tablet device, to maintain the stability and performance of the Tablet.

I simply did a reply laughing at the quote "...to maintain the stability and performance of the Tablet".
According to one of the Sony Support staff in the next email after talking about the issues with the camera from the looks of it that person was not happy when I talked about the bootloader and rooting, Trololololo...

The problem is that they are Customer SUPPORT, they are not the android developers, they are not even developer support so they will never help with advanced issues.
I ended up in the highest level of support but guess what?, they can't even help.

Scanned it with two different android security apps and both deemed it safe. I also scanned it with my desktop antivirus/malware software and it passed. You can probably question the ethics related to this app but nothing appears to be malicious.
