[Q] Rooting HTC RHYME! w/ ICS and Sense 3.6 - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi. :highfive:
I'm a noob. :fingers-crossed:
I have searched ALL OVER THE NET.
Wasted enough hours and found nothing.
All I want to ask is how to root my HTC RHYME!
All my Google searches resulted to sensation blah blah...
My phone is already upgraded on ICS with Sense 3.6. All I want is the rooting method.
I found this guide but couldn't understand most of the steps.
Root + Superuser - HTC Rhyme (ICS)
Prerequisites:
- A HTC Rhyme (forcément!)
- Having unlocked the BootLoader
- Have downloaded the SuperSU Package: CWN-SuperSU- v0.87.zip
- Have downloaded the CWM Recovery (By 4urore): Version GSM | CDMA Version
- Have downloaded the package Fastboot: Fastboot-Package
(I have done all the requirements)
1. Place the package SuperSU to the root of your SD card. We will come back later!
2. Proceed to unlocking your bootloader. No need to make tutorial, there are full here, then htcdev.com site gives you a lot of details (When you unlock the bootloader, you lose all the data on the phone [Your SDCard is spared!])
3. Visit the bootloader on your phone for this, restart your Rhyme, then press and hold the button " Volum Down "once the menu visible, press the" Power "to launch the menu Fastboot.
4. Copy the file " recovery.img "located in CWM Recovery package in your folder fastboot .
5.inscrivez in a CMD console the following command: fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
6. Press the " Power "to return to the bootloader, and then press the" Volume Down "by selecting" Recovery ", then press the" Power ", the recovery charge.
7. Select " Install zip from sdcard "then" choose zip from sdcard ", select the package: SuperSU, finally select" Yes ". Once installed, select " Go Back "
8. Select " reboot system now "from the recovery menu. This phone is Roote
9. Go to your phone menu, the application will offer you a SuperSU Upgrade SU binary. CONCLUSION: So, HTC Rhyme is upgraded in ICS, but more Roote! Have fun with the latest version of Android available for the Rhyme, P I may not be very active, but when I am, the community is enriched . I want to say for certain that this tutorial is not a simple copy and paste, but the fruit of my brain juice xD!

[Q] problem with root zips dont install

After runing the revolutionary thing I accidentally took out the usb while it said " would u like to install clockwork recovery mod". So I tried to install the .zip that would install it on the fastboot but instead of doing that it checked the .zip and said that it had no image inside of it I'm thinking I stewed up big time cause I can't even unroot it and when I try to run the revolutionary thing again it would say device not supported any help or should I just give up?
try re-downloading a recovery from here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192661 (clockwork recovery mod)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192077 (for TWRP)
I've been using TWRP - TeamWin Recovery Project. I like it. Try downloading the PG86IMG-twrp-shooter-1.0.1.zip file and renaming it PG86IMG.zip and place it on the root of your SDcard. Reboot into Hboot by doing a battery pull then while holding vol-down press power. then let it do it's thing when ask if you want to apply the update press vol-up. then reboot and delete the PG86IMG.zip and reboot into Hboot again and you should be able to get into recovery and start having fun.
Let me know if this solves your problem.
I got this message after trying that recovery again

Found your device: PG86100 (shooter-1.40.1000, Android: 2.3.3, ROM version: 1.13

Your device is not supported at this time.
Press (almost) any key to exit.
Im thinking its because of what I typed in the beta key registration when i tried this before I put in 1.40.0000. I the message above it says that I have a shooter-1.40.1000 which is probs y it says it doesnt support
As for the TWRP I found the problem for me because im a windows 7 user it puts it as a .zip file and doesnt include it in the name you see under the icon. Call me crazy but I think my problem this whole time was that I was adding a .zip to the end of each name. When I tried it without the name it worked!!!.
Thanks Mr. Shroom I gave u like a thank thing if that matters

[live with walkman] CWM problems

can anyone make a tutorial about how to install cwm with SE Extreme Tweak Installer v1.8
it says suerimission denied
On which firmware are you? 4.0.2.A.0.62?
Is your device rooted? Because permission denied meens, that you have no root.
If you want to install clockworkmod on lww, check this out. It will automaticly install cwm, but I don't know if it works on locked bootloader...
For SE Tweak installer you could check this out. It's a tutorial
how to root it then?
On which firmware version are you? 4.0.2.A.0.62?
Check out this here
But go to settings -> about phone -> build number and tell which version please!
Simplest Guide to install cmw !
As is usual with most updates, the Sony Ericsson Walkman Live lost root access after its recent update to Android 4.0.4. The guide below will show you how to obtain root access on this device running the 4.1.B.0.431 version of the OS and install ClockworkMod Recovery, enabling you to flash custom ROMs and do other things that require root access.
I. Before You Begin
1. This will not erase any data from your device, but as a precaution, do a backup of what you feel is important just in case.
2. This solution works by flashing a modified kernel that will provide root access. If you are not okay with this, do not proceed any further.
3. You will need a device with an unlocked bootloader for the procedure to work.
{ 4. If you want to install custom rom then download the custom rom and extract it. then there would a boot.img and replace it with the below bootextended blah blah.img } not understood? obviously... read full and then come back to this step.
II. Necessary Downloads
1. boot_EXtendedStockKernel_WT19i.img.
2. Fastboot Files
III. Flashing the Modified Kernel
1. Extract the fastboot-win32.zip file you downloaded above to a folder in your C:\ drive. You should end up with a folder named C:\fastboot-win32 containing fastboot.exe. Rename folder to fastboot for ease.
2. Copy the boot_EXtendedStockKernel_WT19i.img file you downloaded above to the same folder. Rename the file as boot.img for ease
3. Power down your device and put it into Fastboot Mode. To do this, press and hold the Volume Up + Power buttons until it enters the Fastboot mode. Blue led will glow.
3. Open up a Command Prompt window. To do this on your Windows 7 PC, click on the Windows Start button, type cmd in the search box and hit enter.
4. Run the following commands: (Get into . fastboot directory first ):- It should look as this
c:\fastboot\ fastboot flash boot.img
That’s it! You should have a rooted device after a reboot!
pls hit thanks if i helped.!

But that's for unlocked bootloader only! With the method I posted, you can root without unlocking the bootloader...
@OP Please tell us which build number you have! You must go to settings -> About phone -> Build number and tell us the number (or at least the 3 or 2 last numbers). If .42, .58, .62, .69, .432, .578! Otherwise we can't help you
First off, greetings to all. Not trying to hijack the thread but I have a quasi-related question.
Have a LWW WT19i, with Android 4.1.B.0.431 rooted as per the instructions here, with a locked bootloader (unlock allowed: no). I want to install Real ICS r5.2 which states it works with a locked BL, however the instructions ask me to use CWM which I can find no clear tutorial on how to install (most guides suggest installing new kernel).
Any help would be appreciated. Also fini13, if you're as new to this as I am, the guide I listed should help you at least with the rooting.

how do I install TWRP now?
never mind was trying to flash a .TAR file this wayyy... figured it out. need a .img
Use the nexus 10 toolkit
Side Load via adb,
then re run the everything script in toolkit.
Worked like a charm for me, however, I did have to reflash back to my first backup, to be on stock 4.2.1 with stock kernel

hope this one works :fingers-crossed:
I followed your method and got:
1.- Clockworkmod E:can't mount /sdcard/
2.- System stuck at Nexus X logo
What do I do now?
[update]
1.- Got factory image: https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images#mantaray
2.- Ran "flash-all.bat" from the tgz
3.- Flashed recovery-twrp-2.4.2.0-manta.img
4.- TWRP asked if I wanted to install SU, I said yes
5.- Happy days.
Sorry if this has already been asked and I'm not understanding it.
I bought my mom a Nexus10 and it's missing some Indian fonts on it. I saw I need to flash on a fontpack to add them.
The tablet is totally stock, on 4.2.2..
Do I need to unlock the bootloader first (which wipes all the data) and then do the steps from the 1st post?
This whole process is not working for me. I am in windows 8 and it just doesnt let me install sdk nor even ask me to install drivers. Can you suggest what is the possible way out? I am unable to move ahead due to these issues :/
Root failed.
I followed all instructions (I have successfully rooted a number of smartphones and the Nexus 7 before this). The end result is that the Nexus 10 is unlocked, but hangs on bootup with just the X showing. I can't go into Recovery mode (I just get the Android lying on his back with an exclamation point showing and eventually it tries a normal boot - as far as the X).
I can't try Restart Bootloader as this, too, leads to just the X and hangs. I have reset the tab (power + down volume) and also have tried to reconnect the tab to the PC, which now does not recognize it, putting fastboot.exe and adb.exe out of reach. I think something might have gone wrong installing CWM, though it did boot up a couple of times after that with a couple of errors that passed by too fast to copy - before it started to hang. I never got a chance to put superuser on it as Recovery mode is out of reach. I tried a master reset the last time I got to Recovery Mode, but got several minor errors and now seem not to have ANY bootloader working. Short of sending the tab back to Google to have them restore a 'cherry' Android 4.2.2 (for a sum), I'm lost as to where to go next.
Any ideas?

paano po mag rooted ng myphone Rio fun
My recovery is lost when I did this!!!
I did this with adb....almost same step......now when try to go to recovery mode.....just logo......! I have to take battery out! so that I could boot into android.......when I accidently type -w which was for wipe,,,,,,,wiped thw whole phone..... now its just white screen when i boot into android......cant install new rom because recovery is lost.......what should I do now? help me please!

[HOW TO] ROOT HTC RUBY / AMAZE 4G on MACINTOSH OS X

getting this to work on the mac took a few steps, and a few hacks, so I figured I'd lay out all the steps if there are any other brave souls out there who want to root this on the mac with OSX. Also most of the guides I found were a little outdated for 2014
some of these methods were figure out from the windows version of unlocking the amaze 4G from Binary100100 here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1426377
IMPORTANT: THIS WAS TESTED ON TMOBILE AMAZE 4G (are there other versions? would it make a difference? can someone more researched answer that question?)
Update Phone
IMPORTANT:
Before doing any of these steps, I ran system software update MULTIPLE times.
Choose Settings->About Phone->Software Updates (or HTC Software updates for earlier versions).
Repeat this until there are NO MORE software updates. This makes sure all your systems are up to date.
Unlock Bootloader
1- Go to the https://www.htcdev.com/ and unlock bootloader.
Follow instructions on the website, they are well documented, and easy (although it takes a few steps)
DURING THIS PROCESS YOU WILL DOWNLOAD THE MAC VERSION OF FASTBOOT (fastboot_mac)
2- create a directory in the top level of your hard drive (not the desktop, but right at '/') called android. put fastbook_mac in this directory.
Install ClockworkMod Recovery
ClockworkMod Recovery can be installed with a combination of a few steps, and a small hack.
we will use fastboot_mac to install clockworkmod recovery
3- Download the attached recovery-cwm-ruby-5.0.2.7.img (below)
make sure this is in the /android directory with fastboot_mac you created in step 2
4- Put phone in fastboot mode.
a. remove and replace battery
b. hold volume down, and then power. Hold together until bootloader starts up.
c. choose fastboot
5- install clockworkmod with fastboot.
open a terminal. then use these 3 commands. enter each one on a separate line (in order)
cd /android
./fastboot-mac flash recovery recovery-cwm-ruby-5.0.2.7.img
./fastboot-mac reboot
Install ClockworkMod Superuser
7- Install ClockworkMod SuperUser from the Google Store
just download and run the app.
8- on first install you will be asked how you would like to run superuser. The install recovery method didn't work for me, and I just chose to install it (3rd button on right).
Hope this helps someone else following in my footsteps.
I also admit I'm totally doing this so I can remember it again later if I need to!

Tried everything for past 3 days, I cannot get Root access.
1) Bootloader unlocked
2) Activated Developer options
3) downloaded Su
4) Flashify or such other options don't work.
5) Also installed Minimum ADB & Fastboot, renamed recovery file, (and I believe also installed the TWRP).
Still can't get to the option of Install Recovery, Take Backup of Stock ROM or Data.
Tried Vol up + Power button, but there is no option to install (despite having SU in a memory card). The only options I get ( on a touch sensitive screen) are to test the phone on some criteria (technical terms I can''t remember) along with an option for Chinese. The options on the screen were Fastboot, download, recovery (and 1 more I can't remember currently)..
I suppose I have to choose Fastboot, and then install TWRP (I renamed the img file as recovery.img before installing it through a cmmand prompt (run as administrator).

i know it may frustrating, maybe next time just post a link to your thread.
as @narshi shukla mentioned, you have to initial boot in recovery from fastboot (btw there is no need to flash, just booting is required at this time)
have you downloaded the right twrp image, check the size of your file? you can alternative download from the mentioned support thread
did you read the note?
"Note many devices will replace your custom recovery automatically during first boot."
this means your stock recovery will maybe flashed back over twrp right after reboot. you have to repeat the steps each time, until you have successful entered into twrp recovery.
once in twrp recovery, you have to select the SuperSU.zip from external sd card. press the "install" button and select file. if file is not visible, go back and press the "mount" button, make sure external sd card is mounted. you can use a USB-OTG-Adapter and mount a USB-Stick as well.
go back to install and select the zip file, swipe to confirm flash. if flashing fails, goto "Advanced" and select "copy log to SD". you can upload the recovery.log file here for further analysis

Use Magisk for Rooting. It is the best. Make sure you have installed TWRP. You can use KingoRoot or KingRoot app, if your Android version is 2.2 , 2.3 , 4.0, 4.3, 4.4, 5.0
