Hello, I have been looking over the forums for a while but decided to finally create an account.
I want to update my phone to ICS (yeah I'm pretty slow) I am going to use flashtool to update to the latest .50 I think it is.
Anyway I tried to google it, but basically I want to back up the actually data of apps, I know there are apps for backing up your apps, but I want to keep the actual data like the levels I've completed on 100 floors etc.
I think you can uncheck 'wipe'? on flashtool that does this but I want to do a complete clean reinstall.
So my question is, is there an app that does this without root/bootloader unlocking etc. ?
thank you

No, Basically you need root to do such backup (no need to unlock)
Use titanium backup to save apk and data and when you restore the app any save will remain intact

Why not just update to ics through the phone or pc companion or seus? I did and didn't lose any app data
And titanium backup requires root anyway so if you don't want to root the phone that app will be useless to you.
because, laughably the official update still hasn't come! WHAT A fIN joke!
I was going to wait, but have given up waiting.
So other then titanium is there no way to do this without root?
Download ICS for your phone from this forum and flash it with flashtool. BEFORE pressing OK uncheck Wipe Data and Wipe Cache.

First of all, love the forum. It's been a huge help in educating me about the rooting process and different uses for roms and such. I'm here pretty much seeking confirmation on what I'm about to do. Please bear with me.
I'm using LG P500 Optimus One, running Froyo 2.2.2, firmware v10g. Since the new Official Gingerbread update is coming in a few days/weeks, I don't plan on installing a rom. However, I wish to backup my phonebook and game data so the update won't remove it. Having said so, I will need Titanium Backup which needs rooting.
Here's how I plan on doing it:
1. Enable USB debugging mode.
2. Use an old but recently formatted SD card and copy-paste GingerBreak v1.2.apk on it.
3. Insert SD card and install Gingerbreak (but not use app2sd after installation)
4. Open Gingerbreak after installation has completed and press the "root" button. (Should I expect any problems here?)
5. After rooting process finishes, the phone should reboot itself. (Again, should I be worrying here?)
6. Check to see if SuperUser is installed to signal a successful rooting process. (Is there anything else that I need to install?)
7. Download Titanium Backup from the Android Market.
8. Batch backup phonebook and apps with game data
9. Transfer backup files to my laptop for safekeeping.
10. Uninstall Titanium Backup.
11. Open Gingerbreak and click "unroot" (I don't know what happens here. Does the phone reboot itself?)
12. Once Official 2.3.X update is available, update as I would with firmware. (This should work since I unrooted, right?)
13. Repeat process 1-7. Restore phonebook and apps with game data.
14. Repeat process 10-11.
Is all of this correct? Should I expect any problems with this process? Should I install anything else after rooting to make this work?
No...your procedure is correct ...and you can backup contacts by exporting them to SD...and apps by using some app which work without a root alternatively....not sure whether you can't install official 2.3.3 if you rooted or not..but mostly you can

Ah yes, but how about game data/scores? What app can you suggest that can backup installed apps with said data?
well truly speaking i am also a tb fan...and i am 90% sure you can have official 2.3.3 even if you have root ....just get it confirmed and proceed
My goodness. Someone ever told you, you talk too much. Just do whatever you want to do with following instruction carefully. Then come back if you are facing any problem. Here people will surely help you.
I wanted to reply to this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1159920 but I only have less than 10 posts which is a bit annoying as I want to ask about that firmware. Is there a way to backup everything, like angry birds save game and other save games before ROM flashing? I am using a stock SGS2. Titanium backup only works on rooted phones. I am not sure if Kiess allows me to do it. I notice there is a new firmware in Kies as well:
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
My Backup Pro doesn't need root but I can't tell you for sure if it will backup everything as good as titanium backup does and more important restore it correctly.

Someone mentioned to me that if I root my data is still there, and I can back it up. Is it true?

i dont think so, at least not for everything. basically its best to root a phoen immediately when you buy it, becaues rooting needs to wipe the phone just once. then after that you can backup all day long and wipe as many times as you want, flash many different ROMs, and always restore your backups.
but that initial root always needs a wipe first. so its really better to not get invested in the phone until you root IMO.
basically, I need to replay all those angry birds levels again...

quote from Chainfire's CF-Root thread:
THIS IS NOT A ROM - it is only a modified kernel. You need to have the relevant firmware already on your device. You do NOT need to wipe anything for this patch. You DO need to read the instructions. PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE POST!

For Angry Birds specifically there is apps that lets you back up and restore the progress. I use ANTBEE AngryBirds Backup. There is one for original one for seasons and one for rio.
With it u make a backup, u copy the files it create to ur pc or somewhere safe, when u reinstall angry birds u have to play 1 level on each version of the game then backup, after that u replace the new backupfiles with the old ones then press restore in the app, voila everythings back!
As for rooting with cf-root u wont loose any apps or data when u flash the rooted kernel, u can also flash back to original kernel after and keep root.
Mybackup pro will not backup saves and progress from apps unless ur rooted.
I just did a backup with Kies and all my data is intact. Update from KE4 to KE7, but still android 2.3.3. I am not sure if it did wipe out the phone data while updating the firmware.
i want to wipe my tablet and start new because it just seems to act goofy and i know thats partly because ics is buggy yet but anyway i have backed up all my apps including OTA rootkeeper. My question is when i do a hard reset i think thats what its called to start fresh will i be able to re-root on the latest update of ics or if i use titanium to restore voodoo ota rootkeeper with user data will that gimme back root? i didn't really think so but i'm not sure how it works. i know i can find this info very easy but what do i gotta do to get into the the stock recovery also and how do i go about wiping everything out to start new. i'm familiar with clockwork and teamwin so i know before a fresh install your supposed to wipe everything but i've never used a stock recovery. if someone gets upset about my question because i didn't search hard enuff chill cuz my main question is the 1st one. i can find the other info on my own if no one is willing to help. thanks
2 ways to factory reset which shouldnt lose root.
1. Settings > backup& reset > factory data reset
2. Shutdown, Hold volume down then press power, wait till you see white text on the top left corner of screen, let go of power and volume, wait till you see 2 icons (wipe data & android) in the center of screen, press volume down to select wipe data, press voume up 2x to select and accept.

First off thanks for your reply but what do u mean under ur first step u say settings - backup/reset u mean backup with titanium? I want my prime to be a completely fresh install (everything erased) now that I'm on 4.0 then just reinstall my apps. Will doing my titanium restore give me back root or how will that stay? I don't want any system files backed up I want it to be like new only a select few apps will have backed up data. Am I making sense? Also if i loose root can the newest update be rooted or does it only work if u had voodoo protecting it from a prior update? Thanks again

You can launch setting by touching the clock on the right and on the top right of pop up is the setting icon. Or you can go in the app list and theres a setting icon too.
Restoring with titanium will not restore root but you shouldn't lose root anyway if you factory reset.
From what I know you can still root ICS 14 with the root method for ICS in the development section.

Hi, I just ordered my new Sola but noticed that generally, we seem to need to unlock the bootloader to get root...
Try this app instead *no root needed*
My Backup
https://play.google.com/store/search?q=my+backup+&c=apps
p.s. I'm testing version 3.2.3 on ICS I don't think data is being backed up and restored correctly...though it should. The dev says you do NOT need root for this app, but if you do have root, more options are available.
Have fun!
There is a backup app installed on P that does it. I don't know if it backs up data as well tho, but I think it does. You dont have somethg like that on Sola?
I doesn't backup data, AFAIK.

Sony backup app DOES backup data.
Regards, Zagor
Thanks for the comments, I think idea-sharing is needed for this!
I just bought my Sola :victory: so will have it next week. I'm trying to find the right backup to backup my apps and data to restore on the Sola. I don't particularly want to unlock the bootloader just yet. From what I can see, for now, it's a bit of a problem for Sola users at least. I think it's a lot of trouble to go to to just use root apps like Titanium Backup.
Any other apps you know of?
Another option: http://www.moborobo.com/
I'm testing it now...it has an app backup and restore (data also) to your computer, then back to a phone of your choice...even outside Android. It also updates apps on your phone, it has a market also.
Update: ok an app did not restore data that I tested. It does not say that in the FAQ section.
P.s. I just contacted Sony for more information on the warranty. They indicated that most issues they are getting are related to unlocking the bootloader, so in most cases, warranty will be voided. With this in mind, I will avoid the bootloader...I'm not ruining a new phone with 2 year warranty for root access.
Aptoide backup is awesome too

I am planning to use All-in-One or Odin to bring my phone up from 4.1.1. to 4.1.2 or higher, and I have Titanium Backup working - is this app gunna help me recover from a disaster? I have to admit, the interface there boggles my mind. thx!

You need 2 things. Full nandroid backup - to restore your current state in case of emergency AND full backup via Titanium Backup - to restore your things on the new ROM. I always do both and never have issues!
Yes titanium will do job
Indeed if you flash 4.1.2 on your existing rom, you won't lose data (but erase root) though i always prefers clean install and recommend to factory reset after flashing rom for best performance.
After this reboot and install titanium
Select batch perform
Select scenario 'restore missing application' and you will get all application back
For more details on restore option read 'how to keep data backup up to date' from my signature

Titanium Backup is a must have.. I am using it since my Xperia X10i days
It is an ABSOLUTE must have for anybody using custom ROMs

Agree with the above people above... I've been using it ever since they made android possible for the HD2.
I dont think its a MUST... Like some body said further up I prefer a clean install.. I like starting from scratch every time.. I LOVE flashing ROMS. My phone feels brand new every time I flash
I don't know it is must for all or not, but at least for me it is. I too prefer clean flash, always factory reset whenever flashing rom. But really i never found any difference whether i restore user application by titanium or re install individual application. (once or twice only I did re install each application ) in fact it is big headache to setup each and every application from scratch with individual preferences for each application(I do have usually 150 applications) And I never wish I have to lose all the level in games I have achieved before reseting device.
One more thing, it is not practical to find hundreds of applications to re download from market one by one and install it. And if we keep backup copies of those applications in sd card then what is wrong to install backup from titanium who does same job but in batch.

Well, if you have apps that contain data that you need in the future (after a newly flashed rom or a mistake factory restore) it's a must have.
Actually I don't recommend wiping data when you're upgrading. But having Titanium is always good.
'Swyped' from my GT-N7100
No titanium Backup= if you wipe (what is higly recommended if changing the ROM base) download again every app and definitly losing every settings for these apps. It also means losing every progress in every games you may have, so starting again each game from the beginning. It also means you may lose SMS/MMS unless you back them up with another app. Having to configure again every bluetooth or wifi settings, etc
With Titanium backup= in a single operation you'll recover every app with its settings, starting your games from where you left them and not from the beginning
So yes, it's a must have!
Beside backing up, it can also fix google play problems, clean dalvick and many other features.
Ive had titanium backup on all 3 android phones I have had and can say it is really useful. Especially when you have rooted your phone
I dont think it is must have app because always good think to do backup with cwm and about apps and data go backup is really useful

backup with cwm is deferent
if you upgrade/change rom then you need full wipe, you cant restore with cwm.
because it will make your device back to previous ROM.
but with titanium backuo after full wipe..you can restore any apks and setting only with few click..(Pro Version)
without change the ROM/kernels..
i always back up on both CWM and Titanium then put my Back Ups to my Pc..
To have certain application must or not depends on own criteria and priority, but yes if you are conscious to your data and want to remain tension free, titanium + schedule backup is best to it.
It never disappoint in case your device suddenly hang and you need wipe everything.

I prefer mybackup pro https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rerware.android.MyBackupPro&hl=en
It is easier to use for the "noobs" and it gets the job done. But now I just start fresh if I flash a new rom. It's easier.
