Been using touchpal contacts. It's a great app. No lag. The only Thing missing is swipe to call/sms. But it has gesture dialling which is just super. Try it .

Maybe this is not the answer you are looking for but...
To get Big pictures on contacts don´t sync with google contacts. Use the phone contacts app and choose a BIG picture for your contacts. It works great!
That bloody worked thank you very much I wouldn't of thought to do that I just thought I might have to disable the stock app for it ..thank

I´m glad you´re happy with this solution.
It´s very very weird that Google still needs a micro-picture contacts file in the time of HD-phones alike are available at affordable prices.

And I believe that was the same reason why you had smaller images in stock app.
So now that you used bigger picture you can try with stock app.

[Q] Widget that reads data usage from system

Hey guys, running flapjaxxx most current revision of the unofficial. And am looking for a widget that can read the data usage as reported from Settings > Data usage instead of taking its own measurement . I have found that the systems do the counter is more accurate than any app I have tried
There isn't one. Requires, rooting and porting.

Lag in contacts

So everytime when I open the contacts app and press the bar with the lettres on the right side it freezes the app for about 1-3 seconds and then the app continues to work like normal. This behaviour occurs everytime I re-open the app.
Is this common behaviour?

Since this is XDA and not an averge android forum, your going to have give more details, such as what rom your on, kernel etc.

Same. Stock Samsung. Latest build. So the s3 cannot handle a mere 400 contacts under its hood?

I've also have an issue with accessing the dialer.. Dialer takes 1-2 seconds to launch and then when switching from dialpad to contacts, there's also another slight 1 second lag. It has occured on both my stock TW rom and my current - Wanamlite+Siya kernal. Have rebooted and cleared memory many times, but same results.
Cold wakes on the phone also develops a 1-2 second lag to power on the screen.. but turning off/on right after is instantaneous.
Other applications and menus launch smoothly and I don't experience any low memory problems.

I don't even have that much. Looks like it's just some kind of bug.
After a factory reset it's still present. Guess it's a software bug.

Yea, when I used CM9 there wasn't any lag.. only TW based roms as Omega rom seemed to exhibit it too for me.
It seems to be present in the music app too. Really annoying. Samsung should fix this.

Are you on the latest XXLG8 update? I just updated it and it seemed to have improved the lag quite a bit. I also cleared the phone data in the application manager. Still a bit present but usually more so only on the first run..it seems much more bearable now.

It's not yet released in my country. I'll just have to wait for it I guess.
after flashing a rom i got this issue too
but after a while its gone :silly:
i have the exact same problem too, ive tried over a dozen roms including stock, but the contacts app still lags sometimes for a second and up till 3, currently on clockwork mod recovery, siyah (latest), checkrom v4.
i guess it could be a problem if you have linked contacts to facebook, whatsapp and skype, but i dont know i would have to do some testing before i can tell for sure.
anyone come across a script/fix/modded contacts.apk file yet?
I have the same issue. having such an issue in the latest phone of samsung is very annoying. hope this will be fixed in jelly bean update.
the problem appear if you have contact with a lot contact image..try to disable media scanner

how to:whitelist app

Hi guys !
how can i put in the whitelist some app ? sometimes i hate android memory killer;in this way i ll be able to choose when that app has to be closed.
I hope i was clear..thanks for the help
Try Xposed framework, search it around XDA
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Unless its contacts / phone. Not even Xposed works with that well.
i read on xda some guide, these saying to add some strings in build.prop..i tried but nothing..
with framework like jkay and xposed i can lock app in memory,my aim is to find a way for locking app with the original framework. Is it possible guys ? thanks
I'm curious: why?
in this way i can put sms app in whitelist, so android memory killer never kills sms app=no lags because it remains in memory

there are 3 "solutions":
1) Use an ASOP/AOKP rom
2) Use JKay Framework and lock the dialer & contacts in memory
3) Use a 3rd party app
Hence, there is no "real" solution to the issue.

Nope, never worked for me. It extended the amount of time contacts and dialer stayed in memory, but not by a lot. Tried on several ROMs too.

this was what i tried:
without xposed : open dialer once , kill it in "Recents" , play heavy game for while , open lots lots apps and then go back to open dialer , it like what , take 2 or 3 seconds to open it.
with xposed: same as above but it seems finished open within a second, through not as quickly as you open it , back out , open again.
Super!
