[Q] Lag, Stutter and Choppy Pull Down Notification - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there all!
I'm porting MIUI JB for Samsung Galaxy S III. Almost everything works smooth as it should and I'm left with only one little but verry annoying issue: when pulling down the notification status bar the animation lags, it's choppy, not Jelly Bean smooth. All other animations run smooth. This problem prevents many user's acces to a beautifuly crafted ROM in wich I invest most of my spare time and I wouldn't want to stop developing this just for an animation issue.
The MIUI I port is original miuiandroid's Galaxy Nexus version and the base I use is CM10 for SGS III of course, which has nice and fluid animation.
I also tryied other MIUI base, such as Nexus S, and also changed the CM10 build, but every combination has this issue. Related to this I read in different places words like SystemUI, surfaceflinger, motion blur, and vsync... but don't know much about them.
Please can someone give me a hint, a place to start, or maybe a solution?

Best bet would bbe to check the MIUI site. No real development for it is done here nor will it ever be.

[Q] AOKP + Scrolling

Hello,
one of the thing that is holding me back from using on daily base any AOKP rom is the scrolling.
No matter what kind of combo of settings + kernel, it is never responsive as a Sammy rom.
Now would you, AOKP users, update me and to all other users that have the same problem when AOKP scroll will get smooth as sammyrom?
P.S. Hydrog3n 05.05 is very close to achive this...
Telegram sent as soon as scrolling is smooth .

I've been on CM9/AOKP ROMs for a while now and thought I'd see the progress some of the official Samsung ROMs have made and scrolling was something I immediately noticed differences in. While Samsung scrolling seems nice and fluid it's almost too responsive and results in small movements when you're actually trying to select something. Perhaps it's because I'm now used to CM9 scrolling but I find it much more accurate and efficient when trying to find something quickly.

Slow launcher/ROM

Hi,
I'm a new developer and I've got an MIUI v4 port for my phone but it's in very early stages. The launcher is laggy along with nearly every other aspect of the phone. I'm wondering if any of you experienced devs would be able to tell me some tips on how to make the overall ROM work faster and smoother.
Thanks.

How to make sony's software fit with ICS theme

The bane of ICS for me and my OCD is the terrible mixture of froyo and gingerbread style sony apps with the new ICS theme. I'm sure it goes against the conventions set in google's guidelines on how to make apps for ICS and its slowly but sure driving me me me much more insane.
I would be grateful on a discussion of what can be done to remedy this dreadful plight... I have gathered a couple of ideas but I am looking for more!
1. The music player has ghastly bubbles in its corners and does not fit with ICS theme.
in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1716549
Lasanda links to a thread with an APK that updates the default player to a walkman version ripped by doomlord which can be found in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1676013
also I would suggest trying out vanilla music player, it's open source and works with the new lockscreen as well as having widgets that work in other launchers. I can't get the album artwork to work on my mini though (while it works no problem on an android mediaplayer I also have) so would appreciate if anyone else has any input.
2. The home screen's capped framerate now looks laggy since the ICS ui has significantly improved graphical performance from extra use of the GPU. The color scheme and style of the bubbles is also out of phase with the new ICS theme. They shoulda just changed the bubbles for futurisitic triangles or something.
- the best I've managed so far is replacing with zeam
3. call screen : bubbles/
-no idea, if anyone has any clue what to do here if and how to replace the call screen I would be happy and give you my thanks.
Apart from lack of encryption and this poor theme, ICS is good for me. Please share any more tips to improve it further though
thanks

youtube lag on ics and transition animation lag on jelly bean. have no choice left..

Hi guys,
I really liked a custom rom which was a rooted version of touchwiz, but YouTube was lagging really bad. So I tried jelly bean rom, almost every single one of them and they all had really laggy transition animation. Smoothness is really important to me and so I think jelly bean is not yet the right from for my galaxy tab. But I also tried cm9 ics, and even this one has the YouTube lag, even though its not stock.
I have no choice left, other than honeycomb, which I'm definitely not going to do as I hate it.
Do you guys have any idea how I can fix the YouTube last OR jelly bean transition animation?
Thank you so much.
Could someone please help me with the problem?
I also noticed that cm10 and every jelly bean roms all have the YouTube lag as well. And also both touchwiz and cm9.
So no where to settle. I saw a post that I can add video.accelerate.how=1 in build.prop, but didn't help..
Maybe because I'm using cm9 right now? I'm wondering if the build prop change would work in touchwiz rom.
Could someone please shed light on me please?
Thanks so much..
I think I've solved the problem.
I'm on Fourth Bar Evolution, and from this post, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1281005
I followed the section To enable Stagefright..Helps stream Video/Music Faster but may not let you watch recorded videos...
And used Build Prop Editor app from Google play.
YouTube improved significantly!
There are some other media.stagefright.enable-**** already in the build prop in this ROM, and I just left those.
Try it yourself.
Btw I have lag free governer with 1.2 ghz using Yoda kernel.
EDIT: It did improve significantly for some view but it seems like not all.
For ex, the latest Ask the Buffalo video from TechnoBuffalo became MUCH smoother especially the intro animation. And also the video The Glitch has zero lag now.
But still some other vids do have lag still..btw I retested the above vids again and again by clearing data and cache of YouTube, and they are smooth now..

[Q] Is Project Butter kernel specific or launcher?

I searched through the threads and nothing really asked the same question.
Just curious if Project Butter is kernel specific or if I download Apex or Nova Launcher I will see the same effects PB would have?
I would have to assume that something like that (code based) is kernel specific, but just wanted to make sure cause I am getting a new phone soon that will have JB 4.2.2 and I really don't like how we can't edit icons or anything launchers give us access too. Just want to make sure if I do use a launcher, I'll still see the effects of the updated UI.
Thanks!
Project butter is nothing but an increase in frame rate of Android's UI i.e. from 30fps in ICS and below to 60fps in JB. And this can't be easily achieved by installing a launcher. But this might help you:

Its not actual Project Butter but installs many tweaks to make your phone feel awesome. Go ahead give it a try
