For the price its really nice. I'd consider one. Fully unlocked with the best of android and the first to always get updates for $299. Pretty good deal. I've been wanting a gnex for a while but knew I should wait for the new nexus.

So what does everyone think?
I've never had an LG device. I really prefer Samsung. I love Odin
If it had either a MicroSD slot or 32gb internal memory, I'd be grabbing one.
For one its ugly samsung makes better phones. I don't like lg. Nor nexus phones. spec are ok though.

what is REALLY so bad about a LG?
I do want one to use for my work phone.
• It's butt ugly
• It's an LG
• It's on-board internal memory is laughable
• It's screen is way too small
• When can I get my Note II???
if it had lte it would be an alright phone

Lack of LTE and an LG emblem = he'll no nevAr for me.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium
Update lag? It's a Nexus. First strike for me is no LTE. Second is the storage, but I never use the space I have anyways. My sd card is filled with junk. Internal storage I put nothing on it, only whatever the OS and apps put on it.
If it had LTE I'd be all over it. People forget the purpose of the Nexus (dev) phone. It was never meant to be the top of the line device.
Yeah no sd slot kills it for me. I'm a file pack rat and I never delete old builds, etc so I'd be out of space so fast.
LTE doesn't matter to me. I have straight talk now and they only give hspa+. (Half the price of att so no lte is OK with me)
I was hoping the new nexus phone would be a Samsung or Motorola.
Samsung's falling out of favor with devs. LG and Sony seem to be the direction to go. Moto locks everything down so tight.
Don't forget 16GB int storage is also available, what I will be getting
Not bad..... I plan on sticking with my GNote tho... And a fyi LG won't be the only on making the nexus brand for now on

Disappointment, lack of storage space 8gb or 16gb is Damn joke and still pissed me off that google says no sd card because they said it confuses the consumer, android users are not stupid sd card is simple and convenient ,I could live without LTE on AT&T or T-Mobile because hspa+ wouldn't work on Verizon without LTE because there 3g is terribly slow , I'll hold on to my current devices and root ,google can keep that LG garbage specs sound good but LG and phones no thank you .

You do realize that LG is 1 of 3 suppliers for iPhone 5 screens. Also, from early hands on reports, the screen is comparable to hox.
Just because they make screens for apple doesn't men they will use that same level of tech on their own device.
The fact is that lg traditionally makes low end devices. I wouldnt want to own kia's first attempt to compete with the established luxury sedans if Lexus and BMW either. They have zero track record.

You sound like all you do is read Engadget. Have you seen the screen on any of LGs latest devices? Going back as far as the Nitro? The Nitro screen is way better than the Note and the Galaxy Nexus. The Galaxy Nexus was possible the worst screen I've ever seen on a device.

Not here. I see a lot of WP7 cues that I like. If WP7 had the same apps android had the decision to get the SGS II would have been harder for me. Seems like a bigger upgrade than any other since 2.1.
Wasn't looking as the device anyway as its fairly certain to be a Verizon exclusive.
All in all, excited and anxious for the months ahead.
Plus, now we all know what features will be in iOS 6!

No difference in specs? way better screen, twice the RAM, better camera, newer gen processor. Specs are a lot better. The kicker will be whether anyone will dev for it. Since it will be stock android, it should run great out of the box, without LG being able to jack it up.
Agreed with everything except wondering if devs will dev for it. Its a nexus so that's a guarantee.

Non-expandable storage is absolutely fatal. If it had 32gb fixed, I could deal with it, but 8gb and 16gb? Sod off. Nice specs, though. If it has a fixed battery that's also a major negative. Need to see more companies taking the maxx approach: make a thin phone, then use the space savings for a huge battery.
What are your thoughts now that we have an official announcement? For me, I wasn't planning on getting this Nexus anyway, and seeing no LTE makes me glad that I'm not in a position to get it this year.
I was heavily upset with hearing that it's currently only a GSM/HSPA+ device..... I am totally down for getting one, if they make a CDMA/LTE version but it's so not worth switching to Tmobile or AT&T... I still have unltd data on vzw
If it had options like 32 or 64 gb I could deal with the non removable battery and lack of lte if i was on tmobile or something.

Google is an Internet based company. They want you to save your stuff online, even way they produced a laptop it had very little hard drive capacity. Unfortunately for me anyway, Internet connections in my area are to slow and unreliable to keep photos, music etc purely online.

Well nexus is yet to be launched and s3 was announced back in Feb , so you can in no way expect s3 to beat nexus in hardware. If and when galaxy s4 comes out, it will kick nexus 4s ass. If you compare note 2 to nexus 4 , it will be a fair comparison

How much more can smart phones improve? Surely manufacturers can't be far off on maxing out on new features and useful processing speed.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
Rumors say that Nexus 4 will not have external sd card slot. If this is really so, GS3 will definitively beat it since without sd card slot, you really can't do anything with your device. For example, I use my external sd card to back all the content of my phone and if I got a new phone, I can simply plug my sd card into it, install Titanium backup and restore everything on the new phone. An Android without external sd is just an iPhone!
The Nexus 4 manual has been leaked, so I'm sure a more concrete answer can be found in there, but Nexus devices (save for the One) will never have a memory card slot because Google are philosophically against them. I think there's a Google engineer that talks about why when interviewed about the GNex. For that reason, I will never buy a Nexus phone, as I cannot take them seriously when they only come with 8/16 GB storage around these parts with no room for expansion

Yes, I saw that too. It's good news. Smaller footprint vs. the GT-I9300 but thicker 9.1mm vs. 8.6.

They are pushing for the cloud and I am not willing.

Nexus 4 price
I live in Finland where electronic products in general are expensive due to high tax rate but does anyone know about the price of the 16gb model in Europe? I've read that the price in the US is 350$ which in worst case might translate into 350€ or more.
This is a little off topic but comparing the Nexus 4 with the Asus Padfone 2, which would you say is the better phone, specswise and considering build quality?
I think they're equals at least, with Nexus 4 having the better design and vanilla android, but S3 having better build quality (if rumours about LG's quality is to be trusted) and features. Specs wise, they both perform pretty much on the same level anyway
I haven't heard about any quality/ build problems RE LG.
I am going to get the Nexus 4 because it's vanilla Android (sick and tired of waiting on OEMs to release updates) and because it's pentaband.
Just wish it were a tad thinner.

Pros: screen, best processor, micro SD slot, everything else I don't list as a con
Con: ..... I don't really consider these things bad at all but they are not the best. Battery is good for me. Camera takes good pictures for a smartphone. Its overheated like three times not really a big deal and I've had it since the beginning of December when I bought it for 200$
The combination of the amazing processor, plentiful ram, display( quality and size) , and the inclusion of a micro sd are its main points.

Well in my opinion it's the most underrated phone on the market. Fast, well designed very mild LG skin(I use Nova so that takes care of that for me) and a nice sleek design even though I have it cased up due to work.
This is the third LG phone I've owned and the best device by them by far. Although I liked the other two I owned. Coming from the HTC One X and I don't miss that phone at all, nice device but dev unfriendly and HTC just isn't my thimg with their horrible Sense junk.

Well I personally haven't had the overheating issue and like I said I rock a case because of work. Then again even though I have overclocked ever other phone I've owned, I just don't see a need to with this phone. I've also noticed very few people with the issue. If it was an epidemic I'm sure I would have noticed more since I seem to practically live on XDA, lol. Between here and the Note 10.1, One X and Atrix HD forums.
What's annoying about the phone is that sometimes you cannot put the brightness all the way up. Also camera is not so hot. Great phone overall and happy i have it (first android phone). With decent use my phone lasts about 10-12 hours.
If you have a decent phone right now I would just be patient and see if you like any of the 5 inch 1080p phones coming out (and possibly Galaxy S4). The screen "should" be superior, we won't know until we see it in hand comparing but another thing would be that the new phones will have a bigger battery (optimus pro g if in the USA will have a 3300 battery). If you are fine rooting etc than this phone will be fine but if not maybe the newer phones would be best as it would come with Jelly Bean and more than likely come out with 1-2 more updates (just pure speculation on my part)...whereas this phone will prob get Jelly Bean and that is it- however JB or not this phone runs very smooth and quick on ICS.
If you decide on this phone you will definitely be happy with it, especially at 50 bucks! Hell the Optimus G for Sprint is buy one get one free!
I think one of the reasons this phone is so far under the radar is due to the Nexus 4 stealing it's thunder. The OG and N4 have all the same "guts" but the N4 gets all the press due to having "pure android" and being first in line for all OS updates. That is all well and good, but I couldn't stomach being restricted to 16GB (11 usable) of storage. Not when I can buy a 64GB microSD card for only $40 and store all my media that I like to have on hand. Don't trust the cloud...
The OG also has LTE. That's not important to me since I'm on a Straight Talk plan, but it is a nice bonus feature for most people.
So as long as you're comfortable waiting for the devs here to keep you on the latest and greatest software, this phone IMHO is better than the Nexus 4, which most reviewers are in love with.
Thanks for the great feedback everyone. I was indeed comparing this to the Nexus 4, but this has LTE and N4 does not. However, i was also debating whether or not i wanted to wait for the 5 inch 1080ps instead because well, I like a big screen.

My personal opinion is that the phones are getting too big. I played around with the Note and Note 2 to get a feel for the size, and I just didn't care for it. I need a phone. Not a phablet and that's what I see it turning into at that size.
I agree. Phones are getting way too large, the Note and Note 2 are way too large for my taste and hands for that matter. I have a Note 10.1 tablet and love it so why do I need a bigger phone? Just my opinion as I know phablet users who love it.

Only real complaints I have are the speaker volume (fixed with the Sony enhancement) and the camera isn't that great (which doesn't bother me too much).
Also, the lack of updates. It doesn't effect me since I'm a flashoholic and will flash ROMs anyway, but still... It's more the principle of the matter. LG sucks so much with the updating and this phone should have had JB upon release.
What ever, I want AOKP and CM anyway!

Its definitely underrated. There isnt any major marketing of this phone, and to be honest people dont really trust LG because of the lack of support and updates. But they did a terrific job with the optimus g, every review that i read/watch praises this phone, how crazy fast it is. Now lg needs to support it and build some momentum to carry it over the optimus g pro.
I have had my S4 for 2 months now and completely enjoy it. However, battery life life is my only issue (coming from note2). I just saw Verizon released the Droid maxx today with nice specs and close to stock software. Are you guys interested?

Yeah I was looking at them but I have to really look into all the new products. I came from the Note 2 and it's hard to leave that with that battery life. I'm just going to wait until the Note 3.

Note 2 was just to big for me. That's why 5 in HD display and 3500 MaH sounds intriguing to me

Only 720P and dual core 1.7Ghz??? really?
Specs on the website I posted were " 5-inch full HD 1080p display, a quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM, a 10-megapixel camera "

I see where you saw it. If it doesn't have full true HD I don't think I could go to it

From the same website: (others are posting the same info).
http://bgr.com/2013/07/23/verizon-droid-mini-droid-ultra-droid-maxx-preview/
"The Droid Mini, Droid Ultra and Droid Maxx are each equipped with a 720p display, 1.7GHz dual-core processor with a customized X8 mobile computing system, 2GB of RAM, a 2-megapixel front-facing camera and a 10-megapixel"
Hard to believe, we'll see what happens when the dust settles and official specs are posted.
None what-so-ever.
Little back story. I have owned several Motorola Phones. All with really horrible issues. I feel the Motorola line is just too broken beyond repair.
Motorola V551 - Battery drain with early models of the phone. Myself and both roommates I had at the time had the phone. All with a battery drain issue (the thing wouldnt last 10 hours on standby). After fighting with AT&T and Motorola, (and Moto denying there was an issue), AT&T finally shipped me a new (refurb) phone. Slightly different model version.. that had no standby battery drain on it. Strike 1.
Motorola Q9h - Oh boy. Went through 4 replacements on this, all with the same issue. The thing would just reboot whenever it felt like it. Texting. Web Browsing. Talking on the phone. On Standby. My friend had the Samsung BlackJack II, same OS and same version... his never rebooted once. I got rid of this POS and used an iPhone for awhile. Strike 2.
Motorola Razr Maxx - The phone was fine till it got ICS. Battery life then went to crap. Also went through two phones thanks to a faulty vibration motor in the phone (you would have to smack the back of the phone to get it to work again). - Strike 3... but I loved the battery life (pre ICS). JB updated rendered the phone to junk status (after I had given it to a friend). (Google all the issues they had with the update)
Motorola Razr Maxx HD - Came with ICS. Blazing fast. GREAT battery life. Everything the Razr Maxx should have been! Finally! Jelly Bean was released. LAG LAG LAG. Project Butter my ass. Battery life took a hit. Oh... and vibration started to act up again (similar to the Razr Maxx!). Tap the back of the phone.. would work again for awhile. Had to get a replacement phone. The last update to the phone rendered the phone to junk status. More lag, another battery life hit, oh and heaven forbid you do something while listening to music, because the thing would skip more than a scratched up CD. (Did not matter if it was after a factory reset or not). I was never comfortable with using Safestrap... and even after we got a full bootloader unlock... it was a little too late for me to want to use this phone anymore or put any more effort into trying to fix the damn thing. Strike 4? Over it.
Why did I type all this? IMO, Motorola releases junk phones. Even junkier software. I am hoping to spare some people the pain I (and several other people I know) had to deal with, with their line up of phones.
If you have had a Moto phone in the past and enjoyed it, good for you. All my good experiences with the phone were killed with either faulty hardware or a software update.
Note 3 or nothing
Yeah the only Motorola phone I have ever owned was the Droid 1. Motorola phones aren't really My cup of tea either.

I have to say I'm tempted. But with the Ultra being the same price as an S4, it doesn't even compare to it. Dual-core vs. Quad-core, 720p vs. 1080p. VZW website says records in 1080p, but droidlife website states screen is 720p. Pretty much if it just says HD, it is just 720p. Kind of dissapointed in this. It does say it has quad-core graphics, whatever that means.
My upgrade is Aug. 11. My choice will either be S4 or HTC One, depending on the price of the 32gb One. Knowing VZW, it'll probably be $299 with contract. I wouldn't buy a 16gb version of it, especially not being able add an SD card.

JMO, but no micro sd slot is an absolute fail to me. S4 with micro sd FTW.
This is very unMoto, so Google must have asserted their authoritaaay.
And I'm sure they'll all come with unlocked bootloaders.
Man RAZR HD maxx had SD card and HDMI port :/

When is the HTC one supposed to drop for Verizon? I know it was rumored august but us there a definite date now? I have the S4 and my upgrade is August 2.

If you already have s4 why spend an upgrade to get the One. Lateral move imo.

I'm not really interested in the HTC One because of no expandable memory. I have the 32gb S4 with a 64gb SD. I'm good. I'm saving it for the Note 3.

It has no sd slot either, so seems more a reverse oblique
The only thing I prefer with the HTC One is the build quality and the speakers on the front. That's it.
