Someone Try to explain me, why Apple 3GS, a phone of 2009 received Google Chrome and even a kind of Google Now today, but a atrix owner, with Gingerbread will never receive such application. And I am not talking to any kind of application, I am talking a google App. A GOOGLE APP. Today IOS received a voice assistant, even a 3GS got it. BUT, my Xperia Neo, with official ICS (4.0.4) did not receive that application. Hell, if Google produce our software, if Google profits in our mobile, why in the hell IOS get the apps and we not. What kind of company is that? Are they cheating us? Yes They are. Please someone explain that to me.

You should blame Sony not Google. Google's commitment is to the Nexus brand. Google doesn't make updates for Sony devices. Blame Sony for not giving you JB. Besides isn't Sony working with developers to get users JB through the FreeXperia program?

Hello Google is not the owner of Apple. But for a old Ios 4.3 and even old hardware like 3GS google developed a Chrome and also Improved (near Google Now) for IOS.
Google has the software, not Sony. Google developed Chrome, not Sony. Google developed the new search for IOS, not Sony. Google cheat us, not only Sony.
Google chrome is available for our neos.
we can also use same google search as iphones it is in google mobile page you just click mic and btw you can install google now on our ICS and it works excatly the same as JB and as posted above we also can install google chrome we have all what iphone have and more which is google now voice writing offline

I don't know if you're trolling or not but I'll make it simple for you. Google makes Android. You are on ICS. I'm assuming you're talking about Google Now. That is only available on 4.1 Jelly Bean and up for stock ROMs. You can get it on ICS if you are rooted. Google doesn't hate you, if it was in their power, all phones would have the latest version of Android. The reason you don't is because Sony, just like Samsung, Motorola, HTC; wants to take Google's Android and put their own skin and touch on it. That's why your Xperia Neo looks different from stock Android ROMs or Nexus phones. When Google releases a new version of Android, Sony wants to put their own skin on it. This can take a long time because their priority isn't to support old phones, but to put dev teams working on newer phones.
Tl;dr Google doesn't hate you, it's not their fault. Blame Sony

Hello
No one explained me why google officially gave a chrome to even old IOS and old Phone, and for pre-ICS not?
No one explaiend me why Google officially gave a kind of Google Now for IOS, and for pre-JB not?
Why Google can developer an app for IOS but for us made some requirements that only 1% has it?
I don't wanna fanboys answer....
Be happy that Google give us Android, Android is the best what i have had

Because obviously the latest IOS API that 3GS supports is enough to port chrome whereas on Android the necessary API calls are available on 4.x

Ok, but chrome and new google search like google now, is offer to even old IOS 4.3.
Assuming that you are saying is true, we can say that even a old IOS, has API levels better than ICS?

Different OSes are set up different ways. In Android, Google Now is built into the system. Its not a standalone app. What he says IS true, you're just not getting that iOS is significantly different from Android. Android APIs =/= iOS APIs

But came another question if Google could developer for IOS in such way, giving them almost Now Experience even with different API, why for android can't?
I can see one thing, that even android has a lot of features, pre-ICS androids, are really a mess. Because if a old IOS can handle an update and support voice and chrome, our GB is a piece of crap, bad developed.

Have you ever asked yourself why phone producer stop their development for older devices? Find the answer to that question, and you'll know the answer to your question (this is unofficial).OFFICIALLY,you can write a letter to Google and ask them, because no one here knows OFFICIALLY.

According to a comment on MakeUseOf.com:
In general iPhone Apps will not work on anything but iOS.
If you developed the App yourself [and have the Source Code] it depends on the tools you have used.
If you used Xcode all the way the App would be in Objective-C [which is hardly supported outside the Apple world] with Cocoa APIs [which are Apple only].
This means you would have to re-write the entire App.
If you used some other base (Java, C++) and some porting platform there might be a chance that there are tools to port it to other mobile platforms as well.
i think the answer the OP is looking for is a yes or no
as far as im aware its not available on android yet. Cant recommend an alternative as i dont really know what instagram does.
Hello all.
I have just put Jelly Bean on my Milestone 2 and I must say it is a VAST improvement over GingerBread 2.3.4, which was what Motorola officially pushed out for it. Amongst the many UI and performance increases, there is one I particularly like - the Google Voice engine, and it's integration with the Google Now service.
My question is this - if I were to want to develop plugins or modules for this Google Voice engine (and I give an example of what I mean below) to be released absolutely free on XDA and Google Play, how much of a task would it be for me? I would really like to develop rules to use with Voice - for example, when you now say "show me and image of.." it will show you images of the topic you give it, using Googles search engine. I would like to develop a rule which says "What is this song?" for example - at which point in reaches out to Shazam or SoundHound and starts tagging. Little things like this - "Show me trains at <this train station>" for another example, where it could go out and browse to a specific URL which would show a timetable for a train station. Are there any development outlets for writing these "rules"?
I have not developed for Android before, but do have experience in Java programming. I've been following various streams of interest on XDA as well, having owned an original G1 until a year ago when I got my Milestone 2, both of which have been rooted and flashed with CyanogenMod. So in terms of Android development, I am an amateur. But I am a programmer and an avid Android enthusiast, and would really like to get my teeth into developing for the OS, and would really like to begin with Google Voice.
Any information anyone could give me about this would be great.
Why Google doesn't force developers to update their apps with Holo theme.?
For eg. Every app on Windows Phone has that metro theme.
So many apps look like iPhone style.
Many apps look like mobile webpages.
I love Holo UI, but so many apps (for eg Whatsapp..) have Gingerbread UI, and then I feel like am I using Jellybean or Gingerbread? ??
Android is an open platform and for the most part Google keeps their hands out of 3rd party apps. This is a good thing as it would drive away some developers. I suspect the reason apps are still using a GB UI is either because they haven't been updated recently or because the majority of Android devices still run GB.
Yeah, imagine trying to draw that line between what is allowed and what isn't. And the previous poster makes a very good point regarding holo in particular. You can't make a holo app and maintain gingerbread compatibility without doing a lot of special-casing based on which android api level the app is installed/running on. It's a lot of work. So many devs just design to the lowest common denominator.

Hmm, ICS & JB share is increasing, so I guess, We'll just have to wait, till developers realise this and make Holo apps.
One good thing is, apps which are 4.0 up, they all use HOLO apps.
Why doesn't Google make a polite request (...if not force...) to all top developers, like Twitter, Facebook, Limkedin....etc to update their apps to HOLO theme..?
Atleast this much Google can't do...?
Linkedin app is like iOS port. Painful to use. And there aren't many Linkedin Clients except DroidIn...but that is limited features.
Facebook I use Stream for Facebook. Its OK, so so.
For Twitter, I use Twidere, its Great. But I'd love a Official Twitter app.
All new apps to Android look like iOS copies. Google must do something....

No, I'm not at all an iPhone fan, I'm just saying that apps look like ugly iPhone apps.
Atleast. Whatsapp is coming up with HOLO design
So i did a quick Google search, however, i didn't find anything answering my question.
So when we think about android we (at least the ones who knows their thing) we know it is related to google. However, so far i know that Android is open source, correct me if i'm wrong, but that means that anyone CAN "cook" their own rom of android. (As soon in the numerous threads in android development). So far so good.
A while back i recall reading Google forbidding Cyanogenmod of including their multi-window feature (the one that allows you to surf the web and watch a youtube video simultaneously as seen in Samsung devices(Note 1/2 probably S4 and S3(?)). Anyways, my guess is they came to terms where they can agree or did Samsung ignore what google had to say? So to make a long story short, what are google's rights when it comes to android?
Can google, for instance, if it doesn't like what a manufacturer is adding to their phone be it a feature or a skin say that they only want manufacturers to stick to the AOSP look and if they do add their own skin they will be taken to court? Can they do this?
Just curious to understand how things are running here. I wanna know the rights google has and if it could have went to court with samsung because of using the multi window feature.
I think that you are asking a good question, to which I have no answer, but would be interested in following this.
Personally, I would like to see an Android ROM devoid of Google.

My understanding is while 'Android' or rather the AOSP is completely open source and free to use as you like, there are parts that Google have restrictive licensing over, or example the 'Gapp' (gmail, google+, play store etc). Manufacturers then also hold rights over the parts they add into Android (skins, other apps etc.).
Google has no control over manufacturers sticking Android on a device and that manufacture changing Android in anyway (hence the many many random Chinese devices), however Google can prevent a manufacturer from having a license to include the play store etc if they are unhappy with whats being done.
Google didn't forbid the CM team from including it, they said they would restrict access to the Play Store for devices running CM. The Play services is the only thing Google has power over, since that's their proprietary service. They cannot prevent someone from making a device that runs Android, since that's open source.
And I so believe Samsung's method is different, because apps require some changes before you can run then in multi windows, so you can't just run any app (officially, that is).

I see. Doesn't that in theory mean that Samsung could just take their sgs 3, remove all google services and smack their own play store onto it or am i missing something here?

My POV:
For iOS devices several Android emulators exist, hence noone must steal an Android app, but simply run it on such an emulator
Probably nobody is crazy enough to rewrite an Android app for running on iOS powered devices. Notice that Android apps are programmed in Java, iOS apps typically are programmed in Swift ( Apple's recommendation ) .
