Shostock2 loss of signal - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

I have been having an issue where my phone loses signal for the past few versions not sure what version it started on but I am currently running 5.4. I have been following the Shostock2 thread and I know others have been experiencing this issue as well I just can't post there yet and I wanted to share a couple of things I noticed last night.
When my phone lost signal is tried to access the wireless and network settings - more... and I received a notification that I needed to install a sim card and then I checked the phone status and the baseband was listed as unknown. I don't know if this will help troubleshoot the problem but I thought I would share. Also this issue seems to happen more often when I travel through areas where there is no phone service.

I was getting the same occasional loss of signal on 5.4. The good news is I have not had the issue on 6.0

Alternatively, you could maybe... post in the thread for the ROM you are running? Or better yet, read that thread, then post I'd you still have questions.

I haven't had that experience yet but I strongly suggest you run the update (v6.0) and see if the issue persists. Devs tend to NOT support their old version of ROMs.

Good point.
As was suggested, run the latest version of any ROM. The support is there for the latest release due to the issues most likely being fixed from older releases.

I have read the entire Shostock2 thread, and so far there have not been any solutions. The latest update has only been out for a few days and I generally wait a week or so before I update to a new base to make sure the update doesn't cause more issues than it fixes. I only posted because I have not seen any posts list the errors I saw and I thought it might be beneficial to troubleshooting the problem.
I may go ahead and update early to see if 6.0 resolves the problem, I had thought it was fixed on 5.4 as I had no reoccurrence since the update was released until this weekend and now it has done it twice.

I had similar problems on 5.2 forward. Hasn't happened on 6.0 yet, but its only been a couple of days.
Mine seemed to happen when I was switching from one tower to another. No one else I know locally on ATT and with same, but stock, phone or any other phones seem to be having the problem. And like me, they are constantly driving in an area where they switch between several towers in an fairly short time. I tried several different modems and none seemed to help. Hopefully 6.0 will fix it if it was even a rom problem.

I also keep up with the shostock thread and have seen plenty of people with the loss of signal issue. I have never had the issue until i updated to 6.0 now my phone locks up with no signal, i reboot, when it boots up the signal returns but battery may drop from 75% down to 14%. No clue.

If you plug it in before you reboot it will prevent the battery drop you are seeing.

I went ahead and updated two days ago and woke up this morning to no signal again. I checked baseband again and it was normal, but it still asked me to insert a sim card when I tried to access the mobile network settings. This leads me to believe that this is either a hardware or software issue on my phone, and with the number of people that have been experiencing this problem I am leaning towards software.

You guys are aware it's a software issue that's already been fixed by Maintenance Release 3 available in the Development section, right ?
I'll never understand why so many people just jump the gun on getting devices replaced when 90% at least of issues are software in nature.

Crud I hope the Maintenance Release 3 is not the final one if the audio problem still exists. I hope Motorola is taking their time to find all the problems reported and fix them before officially releasing a maintenance release.

Probably because they want to. It was their money don't worry about it. I dont know why some jump the gun to run their mouth about stuff that isnt any of their business.
I was asking as the OP on this thread because I actually use my phone as a phone for communicating and not just playing games on it.
Kinda negates having a specific phone of it locks up and or has silent calls....so if it made sense to exchange it I would....so that I could actually use the tool I bought....ya know?
I initially had the same issue. Turned out I still had my old phone powered up. Once I turned it off and rebooted all was fine.... Maybe this works for you...

I replaced m y phone today at Best Buy and so far so good.
Strange thing is, while this is a MR1 software package, there sure are some things which are different.
The email setup for one to manually configure was completely different than my first phone.
The rear speaker is way louder than the first unit and I thought that one was loud.
The really weird part is, as soon as I opened the browser the first time and then went to load bookmarks, all of my previous bookmarks were already there. Is Google or Sprint storing this information in a cloud somewhere?
I was so taken back by this that I checked all of the various serial #'s and such to make sure they gave me the new phone, even though I watched them with it the entire time.
BTW....setting the battery to PERFORMANCE really speeds this up on this phone.

[Q] O2 Phone Stuck in specific areas, with apparent signal OK

hi guys,
i am having a bit of a situation, i have a sgs2 unlocked, rooted, 2.3.4, o2 sim card and since a few weeks, every day when i am at work, usually at 09.00am, my phone is literally stuck, when i arrive it works OK, even going in/out of the tube, then at work, (2nd floor office, good reception), after doing some texts, or some browsing, . basically out of the blue i cannot do anything, text, browse the internet or call but the strange thing is that the phone shows that there is signal, 4 bars, 10-11 asu. only option is to restart, i cannot even put the phone to flight mode, gets stuck...this tells me something is happening.
i know that o2 had a massive failure a few weeks back and when that happened i was on holidays out of UK, then when i got back, this problem started appearing....o2 support suggested to check the SIM, i got a new one, but exactly same problem happened again.. i reported them the issue again, they checked the network, just one time it appeared they had some problem in the area but then no more, yet i am the only one having problems in my office, and there's other people with o2.
what is even more weird, is that this happens ONLY when i am at work, during the weekends, not at work, the phone never gets stuck.
now, this is a rather annoying issue but i found on some other forum other people with the SAME issue, so perhaps is a known issue?
as further troubleshooting, when i bought the phone, it had 2.3.3 and a similar issue was happening, the DATA was getting stuck between the tube stations, after upgrading to 2.3.4, problem was solved.
so the big question is.... IS IT THE PHONE? IS IT THE SIM CARD? o2 support even suggested to change the SIM again, should i have had a massive case of bad luck to get a faulty one, again.....i even tried one of those apps that boost the signal, nothing.
any idea guys? to be honest i didnt plan to put ICS since i don't see that many benefits, and i dont think it will fix this issue in particular, or am i wrong?
thanks guys, sorry for the long post!
gab
I would say try ICS and you will see. You can always go back if you don't like it.

[Q] GPS no longer working

Hello everyone!
Well not sure what has happened but my GPS no longer wants to lock on to any satellites.
It was working great two days ago but just no longer works as of yesterday and today.
I have tried soft resetting the phone many times along with tools from the gps status apps.
I have also tried clearing data from google maps but still with no luck
Any help will be greatly appreciated... I really need my Google Navigation to work for school and work
Thanks in advance!

The only thing I've ever done is clear the AGPS data using GPS Test. That seems to do the trick. Seems like I have to do this every 3 days or so.
I just tried and it did not work
I'm in the same boat but my gps stopped working after a rom flash at some point. Did you also flash a new ICS rom in the past couple of days?
I'm looking for a solution since I am going to be using my gps real soon. I've tried flashing the GB radio and that didn't seem to help. The only thing that seems to work is if I flash back to a GB rom or a leaked ICS rom.
That might be the solution for you if you recently updated your rom. I'm surprised that there aren't more people complaining about the gps which leads me to believe that there are probably different chipsets for the gps or something in the radio where only a select bunch of phones are affected.
I work for DHL and use my GPS every day. Mine stopped working too, I thought it was the actually GPS module as I wiped and reflashed CM9 and AOKP and still the same. What I did was flash back to a stock modded rom and modem for Telus and viola it worked! Im gonna flash back to CM9 and see what happens.
Crap there is a fix that is floating around, in fact it was a fix and a revert back to normal if the fix didn't work, and the fix didn't work for anyone but the revert back to stock was fixing everyone's GPS (including mine). I searched the forum before posting this but I didn't find it, but I have the files on my laptop.... trouble is I don't know how to post them here?
Is everyone confirming that there gps is not locking on to any sattelites via gps test from the play store?
I'll try and figure out how to get those files to you guys in a minute.... hang tight.

^this is the gps fix that doesn't work but you gotta flash it to get the revert to work. So flash this one first.
http://db.tt/M0u538wH
Ok this is the revert back to stock, its a flashable zip so give it a try and let me know
I found a couple of fixes that didn't work for me (updating the gps.config file and flashing the GB modem) but might for others. I don't remember where I found the config file but I think if you search for gps.config you should see it in the Q&A somewhere.
I also found that when I flashed the CM10 Phandroid rom the newest with working video record my gps is back to working again. So I'm thinking there has to be some thing in the newer kernel that is blocking an apps ability to turn on the gps and if you manually turn off/on it won't stay active.
I think I'm going to stick with the jelly bean for now until I find a reason to switch to either a GB rom or something like one of appdroid's leaked kernel LF5 roms. (IMO - appdroid's roms seemed to play really nice with my Note)
*** Updated - Sorry LittleRedDot I totally missed your uploaded links. If I flash back to BlackStar I will give your flashable zip a whirl... Thanks!

What didn't work for you? Have you tried downloading GPS Test from the market and seeing if you're locking on to any sattelites.
Well after several weeks of GPS unstability, I pestered ATT today, and they agreed to send me a replacement Note. Of course I have to send the defective one back.
I tried to force it to go to GB, once it was back on GB, the GPS was still flakey.
I am hoping the replacement will work like GB did before. The rep said she thought JB was available, and then recanted the statement.

Having GPS test open and pressing home instead of back button left it on in the background basically. I got it to work...wierd huh? And if i dont do this (leaving GPS test in the background and closing it by pushing back button to exit it) it wont work and GPS is way off...any idea. Also if you guys are having GPS issue. Chances are you are on a CM10 based rom, and what you are experiencing is a RIL crash. Sometimes it's nothing major, reception just drops off for a second then reconnects on it's own, other times it will completely drop off and require you to re-enter your SIM-PIN if you have one.
So don't worry about it, this is just one of those little things you have to deal with when you go the path of custom roms.
Your options are:
a) Drop back to CM9 or an ICS rom
b) Drop back to stock - official, not leaked.
c) Get over it
My favorite is option c) and is the one I took. I always come crawling back to the latest CM eventually so I've just submitted to ignoring the little issues and enjoying the familiarity I have with Cyan roms.
Just keep updating regularly and I'm sure it will be fixed eventually, or at least show signs of improvement
EDIT: Also check out this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1881304
Find a suitable modem (even the same as what you currently use) and flash the package from that thread. It flashes more than just the modem. For me it helped slightly, though possibly only as a placebo. Either way I'm happier for flashing it.
Thanks for that mate.... I wasnt hugely worried just wondering weather it was a common issue.... I reckon ill choose option c also lol...

data stopped working out of no where

Data had been working fine and dandy, but one day out of no where it just stopped working. I called ATT and after a long conversation the rep. told me that my phone kept trying to connect to the wrong tower... she tried resetting, twice. Still no look, she suggested going to one of their repair centers but meh.
Since my phone is running cm9, I figured that the modem changed from the one the phone was shipped with or something and something might of have happened on ATT's end that made of broken it out of no where. I figured I should start by changing modems but the map that used to be around here has disappeared apparently. I don't know if that would be the issue to begin with
Any suggestions on how I may go about fixing it?

I was on the newest modem and had many problems as well. Had to revert back to UCLE5 and haven't had anymore problems. Look in the stickies of the development thread and u will find a whole $hit-pot load of modems to flash.....surely one will fix u up!

Yeah I found the threads with modems, but before going willy nilly flashing modems I wanted to know for sure that it was a modem issue and possibly, a way to find the best one for my location (Oceanside, NY). I might be asking for too much though
U just have to try and see what works for u....there may be a way to see what's best for a certain area but I've never seen it. I'm in Myrtle Beach SC and UCLE5 is best for me ATM.
