hi guys,
i am having a bit of a situation, i have a sgs2 unlocked, rooted, 2.3.4, o2 sim card and since a few weeks, every day when i am at work, usually at 09.00am, my phone is literally stuck, when i arrive it works OK, even going in/out of the tube, then at work, (2nd floor office, good reception), after doing some texts, or some browsing, . basically out of the blue i cannot do anything, text, browse the internet or call but the strange thing is that the phone shows that there is signal, 4 bars, 10-11 asu. only option is to restart, i cannot even put the phone to flight mode, gets stuck...this tells me something is happening.
i know that o2 had a massive failure a few weeks back and when that happened i was on holidays out of UK, then when i got back, this problem started appearing....o2 support suggested to check the SIM, i got a new one, but exactly same problem happened again.. i reported them the issue again, they checked the network, just one time it appeared they had some problem in the area but then no more, yet i am the only one having problems in my office, and there's other people with o2.
what is even more weird, is that this happens ONLY when i am at work, during the weekends, not at work, the phone never gets stuck.
now, this is a rather annoying issue but i found on some other forum other people with the SAME issue, so perhaps is a known issue?
as further troubleshooting, when i bought the phone, it had 2.3.3 and a similar issue was happening, the DATA was getting stuck between the tube stations, after upgrading to 2.3.4, problem was solved.
so the big question is.... IS IT THE PHONE? IS IT THE SIM CARD? o2 support even suggested to change the SIM again, should i have had a massive case of bad luck to get a faulty one, again.....i even tried one of those apps that boost the signal, nothing.
any idea guys? to be honest i didnt plan to put ICS since i don't see that many benefits, and i dont think it will fix this issue in particular, or am i wrong?
thanks guys, sorry for the long post!
gab
I would say try ICS and you will see. You can always go back if you don't like it.

Try a different modem as i suggested...just remember the one u r using right now just for be sure....if not...as above said...u could do a full wipe flash just to be sure...
But it clearly has something to do with some antenna around your work...so you could try a diferent modem..a newer one....

I wanted to change again the Baseband cause i had some problems. I used the Guide of Dr.Notor. All went well he made the Backup of nv2 fiel and started the phone in Emergency Mode. After that the program tried to write ass but now it is on timeout after 45 minutes. I have no idea what to do. Please help me. The LGMDP is already running and the phone connected. What can i do?

First of all, edit the thread's title to something more descriptive, like "Problem changing baseband"
Did the NV2 Backup complete successfully? It's the main thing, without that say goodbye to your phone signal.
Weird that 45m timeout, I changed my P500's baseband in less than 10m I think... did you follow drnotor's guide entirely? Including the part of disabling LG modem and not touching the phone until it finishes?

Yes.
Sorry for the bad title
If you have your nv2backup you could try flashing it over once again from step 1, maybe that works.
It worked. I stopped the program and run it again. My Phone is running again. The problem with error searching network on CM9 persists. The Baseband rechange doesn't bring the solution.
Now that you already have NV file if you use lgmdp always in emergency mode dont mather if you flash only bb or recovery or the entire rom but flash with phone already in emergency mode and lgmdp will not touch the nv file

Good tip. Next time I make it from emergency mode.
The stupid thing is that I risk a lot for nothing, cause the baseband didn't bring me something.

I asked few times but nobody answered. I don't see it on Bug-List and so I thought it was the fault of my phone. I like ICS and JB but as I explained on other posts I live on the borderline to other countries and I cannot live with automatic search of networks, cause It can be really expensive for me.

As said above, you will have the bug as long as you are using the junky Froyo RIL stack. This issue exists on CM7 as well since they've "fixed" the stupid 128KB SIMs by reverting the RIL stack. Messing with baseband will not solve anything for you.
http://code.google.com/p/cyanogenmod/issues/detail?id=5182
Ask your operator to have roaming deactivated, best I can offer if you want CM9+. On CM7, the RIL can be switched back to GB, with CM9 this causes a force-close loop with the phone app -> no go.
Is there a way to check whether I have a Funny SIM Card or not? And in case I have, is it possible to let it change from provider and with which excuse?

Well, flash latest CM7, flash the attached ZIP and if your SIM does not get recognized, it is funny.
Thanks a lot.
I made all the steps and the SIM works. Now I have to hope that CM will revert the RIL to GB too, so that I can use CM9+.
You wrote that this Patch runs only on CM7 and not on CM9+. Is there in fact no chance to make a similar patch for the newer firmwares?

Sure there is, however I am not going to recompile CM9 for this, it requires patching files, overwriting the libs is no longer enough, as said above.
Do you mean mik_os git changes in the above issue link?
Easier would be that CM changes back to GB RIL.
Didn't see anywhere in the thread if the bluetooth was or wasn't working. Just though I'd let you guys know that bluetooth crashes my Tbolt. I've tried it a few times, just turning it on crashes and when I try to view the bluetooth menu. And now I'm stuck in a bootloop. This is my first post and due to the sight rules I can't post on the actual thread, perhaps a mod can move this to it. Otherwise this has been great!
Try flashing the imoseyon kernal. This should fix your Bluetooth issues.

You're talking about this one, correct?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1086518
I see that it is a GB kernel and this is an ICS rom. I don't know if that makes a difference. Still pretty new at this, that's why I'm asking.
My apologies. No you cannot use this with ICS. Its early in the morning and thought I read the title to be about Jesters other ROM Jellyblur (GB ROM themed to look like ICS). There are no custom kernals yet for the Thunderbolts ICS until HTC drops the source. I will try to re-create this issue and I will get back with you unless someone gives a solution before me lol. Once again my apologies.
If you are in a bootloop you may have to re-wipe and re-install the ROM. It may have been a bad flash if BT was not working and caused a bootloop.
EDIT: although irrelevent for this ROM, the link you provided is an outdated custom kernal. The Dev has since then updated to 6.2.1

Hi,
Well you are in luck I had the exact same problem today and finally found the fix. I was using the . 9 radio was working fine so thought its ok but since bluetooth was my only issue I flashed ( in hboot) the . 19 radio and now no bluetooth problem. Not only turn it on and off able to use it!
Phone has not rebooted once since I did this.
Hope this helps you out,

I love it when a plan comes together.
I also notice alot more 4g speed.
That bootloop sucks.
I wonder if this radio came out when the leak was initially released.
Would explain why on gingerbread we didn't see a big change but obviously the minor change in it was for ics.
Thanks,

Since the problem got solved...figured I'd jump in with a couple issues that I'm having with this rom.
1* I go into settings and to my apps. When I click an app and it brings up the space used and other info...everything says computing and doesn't show a value. I'm trying to move my apps to the SD and it does nothing since they wont compute. Anybody with this issue...a fix?
2* When I get a SMS, the LED keeps blinking after the message is closed or replied to. It stops after a few minutes, but its annoying. I have GoSMS.

2. That's a bug with gosms. I never could figure out a fix other than disabling the led notification.

Chances are you are on a CM10 based rom, and what you are experiencing is a RIL crash. Sometimes it's nothing major, reception just drops off for a second then reconnects on it's own, other times it will completely drop off and require you to re-enter your SIM-PIN if you have one.
So don't worry about it, this is just one of those little things you have to deal with when you go the path of custom roms.
Your options are:
a) Drop back to CM9 or an ICS rom
b) Drop back to stock - official, not leaked.
c) Get over it
My favorite is option c) and is the one I took. I always come crawling back to the latest CM eventually so I've just submitted to ignoring the little issues and enjoying the familiarity I have with Cyan roms.
Just keep updating regularly and I'm sure it will be fixed eventually, or at least show signs of improvement
EDIT: Also check out this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1881304
Find a suitable modem (even the same as what you currently use) and flash the package from that thread. It flashes more than just the modem. For me it helped slightly, though possibly only as a placebo. Either way I'm happier for flashing it.
Thanks for that mate.... I wasnt hugely worried just wondering weather it was a common issue.... I reckon ill choose option c also lol...

I have been following the Shostock2 thread and I know others have been experiencing this issue as well I just can't post there yet and I wanted to share a couple of things I noticed last night.
When my phone lost signal is tried to access the wireless and network settings - more... and I received a notification that I needed to install a sim card and then I checked the phone status and the baseband was listed as unknown. I don't know if this will help troubleshoot the problem but I thought I would share. Also this issue seems to happen more often when I travel through areas where there is no phone service.

I haven't had that experience yet but I strongly suggest you run the update (v6.0) and see if the issue persists. Devs tend to NOT support their old version of ROMs.
Good point.
As was suggested, run the latest version of any ROM. The support is there for the latest release due to the issues most likely being fixed from older releases.

I have read the entire Shostock2 thread, and so far there have not been any solutions. The latest update has only been out for a few days and I generally wait a week or so before I update to a new base to make sure the update doesn't cause more issues than it fixes. I only posted because I have not seen any posts list the errors I saw and I thought it might be beneficial to troubleshooting the problem.
I may go ahead and update early to see if 6.0 resolves the problem, I had thought it was fixed on 5.4 as I had no reoccurrence since the update was released until this weekend and now it has done it twice.

I had similar problems on 5.2 forward. Hasn't happened on 6.0 yet, but its only been a couple of days.
Mine seemed to happen when I was switching from one tower to another. No one else I know locally on ATT and with same, but stock, phone or any other phones seem to be having the problem. And like me, they are constantly driving in an area where they switch between several towers in an fairly short time. I tried several different modems and none seemed to help. Hopefully 6.0 will fix it if it was even a rom problem.

I also keep up with the shostock thread and have seen plenty of people with the loss of signal issue. I have never had the issue until i updated to 6.0 now my phone locks up with no signal, i reboot, when it boots up the signal returns but battery may drop from 75% down to 14%. No clue.
If you plug it in before you reboot it will prevent the battery drop you are seeing.

I went ahead and updated two days ago and woke up this morning to no signal again. I checked baseband again and it was normal, but it still asked me to insert a sim card when I tried to access the mobile network settings. This leads me to believe that this is either a hardware or software issue on my phone, and with the number of people that have been experiencing this problem I am leaning towards software.

No, rooting won't change anything, so no use in this case. You're completely stock, so it MAY be a hardware issue. Did it work when you bought it initially? Or has it been like that since you unpacked it?
Also, you're on 4.0.3. Upgrade to 4.0.4 and see if the problem persists. Update via KIES and do nothing else after upgrading (don't do a data wipe or anything else).

Spiralzz,
Thanks for the reply!
Wifi works 5 out of 10 times whereas regarding blue tooth, when I turn it on it automatically restarts.. Bluetooth did work initially... Will try updating to 4.0.4 and let you know the status.
Cheers,
Ganesh

Hi,
I noticed the same behavior if I am turning on the WiFi, while data communication over 3G is done at that moment. The WiFi freezes, the phone starts to heat and if to turn on the screen lock after sometime the phone will not be turned on until the battery is removed. If to look at battery usage statistic after the battery removal you will see the gap in it.
It does not happen if the WiFi is turned on while the communication over 3G is not done.
Tried to search for solutions, but unfortunately it was not successful.
So decided to keep the WiFi turned on constantly, just to avoid this issue.

Workaround I found is when you try turning on wifi and if it doesn't turn on immediately ... Just restart your phone, the wifi will be turned on, instead of removing the battery and putting it back.

@OP: If you recently purchased it go back and they'll give you another one that will not have that issue. If you bought it from someone else, well, there we can start talking about flashing and what not.
