[Q] How to install the "voice call" mod? - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there,
I'm fairly new to Android and in this week, I managed to root my Galaxy Tab 10.1 (P7500) with ICS - so I'm glad that worked out
Now, I really want to install the "voice call mod" for my stock ICS - original thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1875024
But can someone please give me detailed steps, as I have no idea how to "Make the Recommended Backup", How to install the two files and how to wipe the cache.
I do know how to go to Recovery Mode - If I understand correctly, that is when I power off my tab and then power it on, by pressing on the Power button + Volume Down - then press Volume Down and then Volume Up to access Recovery Mode?
Can someone please elaborate on this for me, so that I can also install this without "breaking" or "bricking" my tablet LOL
Thanks so much!

To get into recovery, power your tab off.
Then, hold down the volume down button and the power button until you see the Galaxy Tab splash screen. You can then release the power button, but continue holding down the volume down button.
Eventually, you'll get a screen with two icons - a box on the left with an arrow exiting the top (recovery) and a flashing Android with the word "Downloading" below it. Release the volume down button.
Now, use the volume down button to move the blinking highlight to the left. That's the recovery icon. Once it's blinking, press the volume up button to select it. Volume down will move the selection back and forth.

after success entering recovery mode there an option to do backup..
then do ur backup from this option..
after that u can proceed flasing what ever u need..

I know what to do, but How?

Hi, Thanks for the update. I know how to do this part, but when I enter recovery mode, all I see is:
1 Reboot
2 Install from External Storage
3 Wipe data/Factory Settings
4 Wipe Cache Partition
etc etc
Where do I go to do the Backup and where do I then go to install those two files of the " voice call mod"? And then, how do I wipe the cache?
Can you please explain these parts to me - The page for the voice call mod gives the instructions as to what to do, but I want to know "how" to do it.
Thanks so much

So if I understand correctly, I should then use an APP to make the backup - like Titanium Backup - so the backup is not done in Recovery Mode?
Then after that, I go to recovery mode and install the "modem" files and wipe the cache?
So, how do I then install the files and wipe the cache...Can you please give exact steps as to what to do and how for each of these steps.
Thanks

Rom manager app can do backup your current ROM.

[q] help!!! Did i brick my phone!!!

I downloaded starwars rom followed instructions now i am stuck a the front screen were it says to touch. will not proceed says "process com. android phone has stopped unexpectedly". I was fully rooted and using bootstrap. How do i get back into bootstrap. I have plugged into wall with phone off and bootstrap will not start. HELP

You HAVE to flash it over Alien rom using bootstrap. These roms are not meant to be flashed without unlock in the first place, it's pretty random that it even somewhat works with boostrap. What you need to do is SBF back to stock, unlock your bootloader, load up a recovery, flash alien, make a backup, relock your phone, root and install bootstrap, restore alien backup, then flash star wars rom. Make sure you read carefully before flashing roms because you can easily brick your phone missing info like that.

If you get stuck and want to try a factory reset, here are the instructions provided by Motorola:
1) Power off the phone, press and hold volume down button, press power button
2) Screen will come up with "Fastboot", press Vol down key to cycle through choices until you get "Android Recovery", then press Vol up key
3) Wait for the "triangle ! / Android" screen then go on to step 4
4) Press both Vol up and Vol down key simultaneously. A menu will come up
5) Use the Vol Down key to select "wipe partition" by pressing the power button.
6) Once that is done continue to step 7.
7) Tap on Vol down key until "wipe data/factory reset" is highlighted, and tap Power key. Another Confirmation screen will come. Tap on Vol down key until coming to Yes and tap Power key
8) After userdata is cleared, the "reboot system now" option will be highlighted by Default. Tap Power key
9) Phone will reboot to initial setup screen.

Help!!! Gsii only booting into recovery!!

As soon as I turn on my Galaxy S II on it boots directly into recovery. WOrst of all the power button. CWM won't let me choose reboot or anything when I press the power button. HELPP!!!
So can we get a little info as to what you were doing before this happened, such as were you rooting/flashing a rom?
Also the power button is of no use in CWM, use the home button to select items
And finally this is in the wrong thread!

Here you go, this is the best solution to your problem:
CWM Recovery Menu buttons layout.
Home Softkey = Selects
Back Softkey = Go Back
Vol+/Vol- = scroll up and down
Good luck!
Power button is now for BACK
use Home to select
When /system does not contain a working ROM, the phone boots to recovery. Just adb push a rom to internal SD and flash it.
Not development...

[Q] Galaxy 5.0 Stupid Question

My 5.0 player is in Android system recovery mode and I am just trying to wipe data /factory reset. I can scroll down using the vol keys but I can not select the option. When I try to select the option by pressing the power button nothing happens. I know this seems really lame but it is driving me crazy. Please help.
Does the CWM menu just disappear? If so, I've had that problem a few times. Just reboot (forcibly) and try again.

When I press the power button nothing happens. If I hold it down it shuts down. When restarted it goes right back to system recovery menu.

stock recovery uses the home button not the power button for select.
Update: also newer versions of CWM (vers 5.x.x) can use both power button and home button.

Download a ROM for your S3 that you know will work (Stock Samsung or CM10 or something stable) from the S3 Android Development section (Should be a zip file).
Copy it to your SD Card and reboot into ClockworkMod Recovery.
Then backup everything by selecting "Backup And Restore"> "Backup".
Then select Format Dalvik and Format Cache, then go into Mounts and Storage and format your /System.
After this return to the main menu and install the ROM you downloaded earlier.

Hard to think that just a game would cause that to happen, but weirder things have happened...
I found this:
How to boot device into Safe Mode.
1. Press and hold the Volume - button and power button (while device is on).
2. When screen turns black release the power button, but remain holding the Volume - button.
Device should boot into safe mode.
If this works for you, then you should be able to boot the tablet with just the preinstalled apps available and then you should be able to uninstall the game in question and reboot normally.

this is how my bootload looks like . (volume up+power button when the tablet is off) .
as you can see there is no format or anything :crying:
Well I'm not sure what your bootloader screen, which you have to use the opposite Volume button to get to, has to do with getting into Safe Mode, but ok...

Can you navigate to the Recovery option there? If so, your factory reset option should be there. I still think it would be able to boot into Safe Mode so you can just uninstall the offending app and not lose your data. But anyway, if those options don't work, you could try grabbing an update zip from Asus and see if applying that will get it going again.

What app did you install, by the way, so others might be warned against using it to avoid this situation...?

Typically, in stock recoveries, when you see the Android guy there's usually a button combo to get the commands for reboot, reset, update, etc to pop up. Usually this would be like hitting the Volume keys together or some combo of Volume and Power buttons. Unfortunately, there isn't that much info about this particular Asus tablet as the TF300 and TF700 that I am more familiar with, so can't tell you with absolutely certainy how to do it.

The OTA zip they supply doesn't appear to be able to installed via recovery, and they don't have a system.img for flashing. Here is my current thread on the issue.

Sorry about the OTA zip, I didn't read it closely enough for the install instructions. I don't know why you think the system is gone seeing as how the stock recovery can't wipe that partition...?

Mash volume up and down and power when in recovery.
The options are there (I know as I have the same tab) but I can't remember the combination
You can try and sideload the zip via recovery (I couldn't get ghat to work, got the same error)
Factory Reset from the Asus Manual
Backup and Reset
Back up data, Wi-fi passwords, and other Google servers using your Asus Tablet.
To do this:
1. Go to Settings>Backup and reset
2. From the Backup and reset window, you can:
Factory data reset: Erases all data on the tablet
Press both volume buttons to access recovery commands, find reboot with volume keys, press power to select. Done
Power lead out, Power down, hold volume down and power on, release power on when "In search of the incredible" screen shows, use volume button to select "Recovery Mode".
When Android with open stomach shows and "No Command" press and hold volume up and power button for 3 - 5 seconds then use volume button to scroll to wipe cache / wipe data use power until to select.
If it doesn't work try again until it does.
