I have a evo 3d rooted on metro pcs wit everything working except mms. I have tried the oakieville thread (both flashable and do it yourself zips) and have tried messing wit the apn settings a lot. Nothing seems to work. Is there a sure way of getting the mms working? If so can I get some help plz? Thanks in advance
There are a couple ideas. You could download go SMS pro and manually put the APN settings in MMS settings to work. Or you could try the APN backup and restore method. This method only works for ICS and below. Download APN back and restore app from Google play. Convert the app into a system app with titanium backup. Reboot your phone. Go into APN backup and check disable ICS check. Next click APN backup which will create a folder sdcard/apnbackup . Next you want to move your metro APN file into that folder. Next hit delete apns. Go to restore APN and choose the metro APN you put in there and hit restore. Reboot your phone. It should work.

Recently, my text messages have not been being received. People send them, but I don't receive them. I recently reinstalled Kaosfroyo v38, twice, but no messages. I tried using FroSHEDYo, but it still didn't work. I'm at wit's end here, and I can't make it work. I'm about to call Verizon, and get them to send me a new one. I rely on texts to communicate with most of my friends, and do it all the time. This is urgent to me.
1. Boot into recovery and make a nandroid backup.
2. Download a ROM with the correct APN files, like Plain Jane (basically a stock ROM with root). One version of Plain Jane can be found here:
hxxp://ip208-100-42-21.static.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=718092/ ( I don't think I can post links yet so change hxxp to http)
3. Do a full data wipe in recovery and then install the Plain Jane ROM.
4. Reboot into the new ROM.
5. Make sure 3G and Sync is on and you should get all your missed text messages, once everything is finished syncing.
6. On the market, grab the app "APN Backup & Restore".
7. Run APN Backup & Restore and bachup your APNs. The app will create a folder on you SD card with the APN files. Hold on to those files and if you wipe your SD, make sure you back them up somewhere.
8. Then you can restore to your nandroid backup or load any other ROM. The just run "APN Backup & Restore" and restore you APNs.
It sounds like it could be stuck in EVDO only. You will have to go to a stock based ROM like xtrSense and download Anycut and add a shortcut for CDMA Options to your home screen then change the Mode of Operation to Hybrid.

Anybody know where S3 keeps the default APN settings?
I would like to modify it if it is something kept in the phone. My manually added APN got removed and everything set back to my carrier default APNs after the phone reboots.
Thanks!
Have you tried apn backup and restore from the market? May not have your default apn, but it let's you save a "custom" apn and restore it later.

I tried that, but it did not work. I even converted it a system app. It can save a copy of the default APN, but it actually won't even backup my APN.
Is there a way, possibly using Titanoim Backup, to backup and restore the APN settings?
I change ROMS a lot, and notice that retyping the APN settings is the worst part.
not sure about titanium but you can with an app called APN Backup and Restore. For Jelly Bean roms you must however convert the app to a system app before restoring and the Press the menu button (in app) and press 'Disable ICS Check'. Try read the app info/description in the Playstore for more info.
After restoring I find I always need to restart my phone then all works fine.

Dear Friends,
Quick question here:
How can I change or add my MMS settings or get an APN going for the EVO LTE? I know the common solution is APN Backup and Restore, but for me it is not working, DESPITE the System App change using Titanium Backup. I successfully converted it to a System App, but APN Backup and Restore still cannot change the APN I want, due to permissions on ICS.
What can I do here? Especially since in the EVO, there is no APN menu either, in the Mobile Networks settings?
Thanks for all your help!
Hi,
I'm using titanium backup each time I restore or flash with a new ROM but I have not find an easy way to restore only the :
APN preferences (Internet access / MMS)
Saved Wireless network
Different accounts
For the accounts & wireless I've found them in titanium backup, but unfortunately not for the APN settings (and I have to enter them manuallly each time...)
I've seen that google keeps a backup of our phone... hmmm... are all these settings stored? if yes how to restore them?
Install APN Backup and Restore Then convert it to a system app in TB. More details on the play store.
