OK I have gotten VERY used to use voice comands (navigate too map of etc..) on my droid. it was fantastic on the SII
its absolutely HORRID on the SIII. S Voice is just horrible. if there is ANY NOISE AT ALL in the background forget it. it either gets it completely wrong or worse spends forever "thinking" and then still gets it wrong anyway.
with my SII I could have the window open roaring at 60mph and it will still get what I said lickity split.
NOW I noticed Google Now "gets it" just as well if not better than the SII did. BUT it has its own problems. I don't want the google now crap coming up when I just want to give voice commands and there does not appear to be a way to INVOKE google now.
I can hold menu and that loads google now but I have to press the MIC graphic to get it to list for a command.
and then it does not PERFORM the command in creates a google now tile with the result and I have to RAPIDLY tap it to get it to load maps or navigation before it just does a stupid google internet search instead on its own.
I want it the way I had it on the S2. I hit the mic icon I make on my desktop and just say map of navigate too and it just DOES IT.
how do I get that back ? NOT using S Voice since it does not work except in a nice quite church.

Hello All,
I searched for any related posts and could not locate any reference to my problem. I would greatly appreciate any input.
One of my favorite features on my old EVO 4G was the voice search for navigation. I could give it very limited information and it found places, products, etc like nobody's business.
I upgraded to the EVO 4G LTE today and it came with Google Voice Search installed. First I could not even locate the app. When searching at Google Play for the app I am made aware that it is already installed. There does not appear to be an update option at this point.
Firstly I would like to find a better way to locate, paste to the home page or launch the app (once I get it to work that is). Secondly and most important when I launch the app through what is discovered on Google Play the microphone page appears but then the app locks up.
I have also tried just the Navigation app and when I speak directions it seems to take the input fine, but the results are seriously random and for the most part quite irrelevant.
I have played with the settings and the maps apps seems to have my location pegged pretty good.
Any thoughts on getting better results or instructions on removing the factory install of Google voice search or updating it?
If it makes a difference all testing has been done on WiFi from my home network.
Thanks for any input you might have.
I havent tested mine at length but my google maps speak destination function works just as well as it did on my Evo. The voice function of the search app works also, but it does take a second to be ready for voice input. As for removing the factory installs of both of those apps, you would need at least root to be able to delete them, and there is a mod for rooted users to flash to the stock rom or ViperROM that will get rid of the bottom menu bar and map the recent apps to home long press and menu to the recent apps softkey, OR it can do the same without getting rid of the menu bar. I think there is also a variant of the mod that also maps voice search to recent apps long press, but don't quote me on that. Either way, for right now it seems the only way to try and solve the problems you have is to either root it, wait it out, or return the phone and see if a new one works better.

Hi, i've searched through tones of google pages and so on and have not come to a solution yet. Currently on the Omega v31. Awesome rom btw however i always hated the "Select input notification" and yes i do know how to get rid of it and all by removing the stock keyboard or freezing it with titanium. My issue at hand is Google voice typing which is awesome and should not be frozen or removed due to Google now or so i have read. the thing is this google voice typing auto checks itself after awhile and i have no clue why. so yes i have Smart keyboard as default and unchecked google voice typing and notification goes away till after using the phone for awhile google voice typing then enables itself again. So irritating .. can anyone share some light on this.
Same here, Google Voice Typing automatically checked.
DEAR GOOGLE, VERY STUPID FUNCTION.
Moving to Android for 3 weeks and this platform has TONS TONS TONS of BUGS.
I am also having the same issue but instead with my LG Optimus G. I have everything set up like the OP has by only having one input method set up. No matter what the Google Voice typing will check itself back on. It would be very helpful if someone has a method to keep it permanently unchecked or removed without removing google now as I as that feature, Thanks.
[Q] Google "Voice Search" 3.0.1 -- Does Not Recognize CALL Command; Does Websearch
My Droid Razr Maxx is running stock (but rooted) ICS 4.0.4. The version of Google Voice Search installed is 3.0.1. Google Voice Saearch is a successor to Google Voice Actions. It's supposed to be able to call a contact by giving the command:
CALL [contact name]
Click to collapse
Example: "Call Joe Blow Mobile" (mobile tells it to use the "mobile" number listed instead of asking me which of Joe Blow's various numbers to dial) is supposed to call Joe Blow's mobile number.
When I give this command, it just does a web search instead. In the Settings of Google Voice, you can tell it which things/services are "searchable." I have mine set to search contacts only, but it still interprets everything as a request for a websearch. I've tried force-stopping the app. I've tried clearing it's data and cache. Nothing changes.
BTW... the version of Voice Search on Play.Google.Com is 2.1.4. The Play Store says that this is what is installed on my phone, but my version is actually 3.0.1. I can neither uninstall what I have nor update it.
Is anyone else experiencing this behavior?
Can anyone recommend a fix for my Razr?
This is not going to be helpful to fix google voice... but here's an alternative: I quite like Motorola's voice commands which you can activate by double tapping home button. Go to its settings and you can even make it adapt to your voice.
It's reliable and recognise names better than google voice or any other voice apps like vlingo. I've been using it with my car bluetooth speaker which automatically turns on voice commands when I press the call button on the bt device.

I can't find anything called Motorola Voice Commands on my Droid Razr Maxx. Do you find it under "M" or "V" or something else?
V, Voice Commands. My mistake. It's not made by Motorola, but made by Nuance. However it's in my stock asia RAZR.
Here's an apk of the app, and titanium backup (in case the apk doesn't work). Hope this solves your problem.

Thanks for this and I probably will install it eventually, but I need to investigate further beforehand. I looked on my system, but found no app called "V" or "Voice Commands." I started to install the APK, but it warned me that this would replace a system app, although it didn't say what that system app is. I live in the USA. Apparently, I have something equivalent that is not called Voice Commands, but which is the same as Voice Commands.
I will investigate and report back...
It's not called V. I was replying to your question to whether it's under V or M. Lol.
Perhaps the app will only appear if you have a bluetooth audio device?
You can also try under settings->accessibility-> Double tap home launch and see if Voice commands is on the list.
Btw I'm using Nova launcher, maybe that "unhides" the app? >_>
So, like many other users, I prefer to use the Google Now application instead of just the stock call dialer when connected to bluetooth, whether it be in the car or working out with a bluetooth headset, because it allows you to play music, navigate, etc... in addition to just calling some one. Also, like many other users, I've been doing this since voice search was introduced via Gingerbread.
But it seems that all good things must come to an end.
The Problem... Since Google Now, now uses bluetooth, that old Bluetooth Launch application causes it to get stuck on initializing when launching it from the bluetooth button from whatever bluetooth device you're using.
Without going into to much detail... there DOES exist 2 temporary fixes
1. Disable the Media Connection on your connected bluetooth device via bluetooth settings (not desirable) ,
2. The following solution involves root access, and the purchasing of 2 paid applications.
Guardian Bob... The creator of the original BluetoothLaunch app looks like he's working on an easier fix... but for now... if you're frustrated by the same problem on your droid razr maxx... go to the link I'll post at the end of this post, and use the Paid Titaniam backup application to convert Google Search to a user app
Then Use Bluetooth launch and configure it to launch the voice search activity,
Then use Tasker to program Google Search to Force Close on Profiles for each application you plan to use with Google Now while connected to bluetooth. (note, you can set the task to Force Close Google Search only when bluetooth is turned on, so you don't have to worry about it messing with your daily activities when you're not in the car or on a headset)

workaround
Still no fix coming from Google, but at least one nice guy made a temp fix while they do it.
Look for "Voice Command" app on Google Play. Developer's name is IT-DEV-CROWD or code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=42178#c37
It worked for me, after trying a lot of different configurations.

This app did fix the issue where the bluetooth weird voice search comes up instead of Google Now, but I still get Google Now stuck at "initializing" after is opens. This only happens when I have bluetooth devices connected.
Hey guys,
For me the Google Assistant is deteriorating in experience. In the early days of the phone it worked awesome, so well that I could actually use it with screen turned off with all of its functionality. But later more on MiUi 10 and pie updates it has gone to gutters.
1. Forget screen turned off or lock screen, now it doesn't even respond to 'ok Google' from home screen.
2. It doesn't respond even on the Google feed page.
3. I need to use GA from headphone as I ride bike sometimes. Everything used to work. Now when I tell it 'navigate to XYZ', it says I don't know how to help with that.
4. When I say 'send WhatsApp message to XYZ', it says I don't know how to help with that.
5. I ask 'play music' it says 'you need to unlock your device in order to do that.' but if I say 'play coldplay', it'll actually start playing songs on Google music
6. When I say 'what's this song' which is the feature we use to identify the song playing in the background, it says 'it's not capable of doing so yet.
7. Sometimes while saving reminders, it still keeps asking me what to save or when to remind even though I mentioned everything already.
Everything above used to work absolutely fine. It seems to me either Xiaomi or Google is restricting GA. And no I don't have any weird stereotypical accent. Have you guys observing what I'm observing?
