No OTA jellybean update? Possible incorrect csc/software? SOLVED - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have previously rooted my 3uk branded phone then flashed the latest (at the time) UK unbranded official software.
Now my phone keeps telling me they are no updates available, but as we all know, jelly bean is now available here in the UK for unbranded handsets.
Is something wrong? Please look at my screen shots for software version, csc, baseband etc and let me know if they is some reason why I am not getting the OTA update.
Thanks for your time,

This morning I tried installing jelly bean via kies but my phone is not connecting to it. I guess this relates to the same issue? Any ideas anyone? Please, I really want the upgrade

Sorry if this is a duplicate post, please if you have seen another post with the answer to my question I'd really appreciate it. I still don't know why my phone won't connect to kies or why my phone says they is no update available.
Thanks in advance,
Oliver
Ps I want to stay unbranded, so, do I really need to upgrade from unbranded ics to jb 3uk?
Cheers again.

I'm pretty much still a noob so don't take me too seriously.
I read some unrooting and stock re flashing is required for ota or Kies upgrade. Your screen shots look pretty much like mine before upgrade and I got it upgraded even with root. But I never flashed a custom rom so I could not tell if there is anything special.
I would suggest to look for the stock rom your device came with and wipe it clean following the procedures you can find on this Web.
I cannot recall where exactly was the post from chainfire providing details on rooting and unrooting. But it shouldn't be too hard to find for looking for cf-root related threads with "chainfire" on them.
Good luck.

Hi and big thanks for your kind response, much appreciated.
I have solved my problem now, I had managed to wipe, unroot, re lock and reset the counter to make my phone "stock unbranded" but, the problem for me, I had not changed my csc code. My code was for another country which is why ota update and kies would not work. I did not know about csc codes until now.
All I did to solve the ota update and kies was...
1. I search Google play for app to change the csc (can't remember the name of it)
2. Installed the app.
3. Changed the csc code to BTU which is the csc code for UK unbranded handsets, unfortunately this process also reset the phone.
As soon as I did this I had an update waiting, the one before 4.1.1 so I installed it. After I checked software and it said I had another update waiting but, basically I had to join the que, so I connected my phone to kies (worked 1st time) and the 4.1.1 update installed without any issues.
Just wanted to keep you updated and I hope this post helps others
Cheers again

[Q] Received a phone that was Rooted, and wanting to get factory ROM?

Hi,
I just purchased the i9100 from someone today and I'm pretty sure that it's rooted. I checked the kernal and it is (2.6.35.7-RAGEmod-U1-v1.1b).
Can anyone please point me in the right direction? Also which files would I need? Do I need to use a USB jig?
I have no idea what I'm doing, there is someone on kijiji (local selling/buying site) that says they will flash it back for me for $100, should I just do that?
Thanks everyone!
not sure what you would do, but what i am CERTAIN about is do not pay 100 bucks... just go to the dev section and read up there.. factory reset (turn phone off, hold volume up, power and home keys simultaneously)
Sorry I wasn't being more specific, but what I wanted to do is unroot the phone. When my phone powers on I get a GR check rom boot logo?
My phone seems to be missing a lot of default apps compared to my brothers SGS2.
well theres this program called s-root which can on click unroot your phone. not sure if you need a specific kernel though. ask around in this forum - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1125414

Just unrooting the phone should work with SuperOneClick (download to your PC, enable USB debugging on the phone, connect it to the PC and click on the big "unroot" button. If you are running some custom ROM you want to here rid of you will have to flash complete new clean software from Samsung.
But to the missing features: you said you have an older Galaxy S1, oder course there are other (better) apps and a totally new software on the successor, the SGS2.

Yes that's a custom rom, checkrom v5, go to the stock rom thread, pick an upto date rom, ki8 is the newest.
Flash using odin, guide is also in the thread.
That's the only way to remove a custom rom and kernel and restore the removed apps.

You are on a custom rom or a modified stock rom for shure. If you want to get back to stock then you have a thread in the development section that hosts all the stock roms or are links to them at least. Flashing a stock rom will also unroot you phone.
Now as for the flashing part you need to read the stickies search for a youtube video before you do it. You need to understand that flashing has its risks. Although I flashed my phones at least 50 times and never bricked any of them so far you still need to be warned. Its not complicated at all but you need to understand the basic steps. Good luck.

First FEB OTA, NOT ICS-Incoming Software Update Thread OLD

http://support.verizonwireless.com/system_update/rezound.html
New update coming soon apparently. I would recommend people holding off on it until a stock rooted version is released.
If the package includes new radios it might help us out with ICS roms or give us better signal strength.
Not holding cause I'm not rooted. I'm upgrading this HO! Right away. Sick battery issues

Hopefully if there are new radios they are GSM/CDMA hybrid to solve the Texting/SMS problem, and to make the HTC Rezound a world phone!!!!!

I just got mine Sunday and am still 100% stock. So I'll get this as soon as it comes out. Been waiting to unlock the bootloader and root it, just to run the phone for a few weeks to see how it is.

Can I install the OTA on the rezound if the bootloader is unlocked only?
Hi, speaking as a newbie with a Rezound that's rooted and has an unlocked bootloader.
If I install this update, it'll break my root right? Would it affect the bootloader?
If I don't want it to affect my root status, would I have to wait until a "hacked" version is released by the developers here?
And if I ever install a custom rom, I could only get software updates through the developer of that rom, correct?
Thanks guys!

Yup. I deferred it, but I just checked and it's there. About 54mb it says. I won't download it until I know it doesn't break root or anything else I have going here. I did download that root protect software just in case it actually makes a difference.
is there a way for you to somehow get the http:// link?
Con its still downloading for me. I'll see what I can find when its complete.
I didn't ask for it start downloading, it just started on its own.
It is likely it won't let start installing automatically. So if it prompts you to install, connect to USB and see if you can find the zip file.
No update yet here, but my mainver was updated running ics so that may be the reason
I'm living on a yellow submarine
If you aren't running the stock rom it probably won't authenticate.
mine locked up at 54%. lol. on clean rom 1.5. going to do a nandroid and restart I guess.
The update downloaded to my phone and i hit ok to install it but it didn't do anything. no reboot or anything. Any suggestions
Guys.. dsb9938 1.0.2 rom has had this base now for a long time. Been running it for a while now and very nice. I didn't like the themed version so I'm running the stockish build. Just saying

Serial Number shows "Unknown" - Various ROMs

Something I just noticed was my SGS2 shows an unknown serial number when looking at the phone info. The IMEI is correct, but not the s/n field.
Is this the usual thing to see when running custom ROMs? Does that affect anything with the Android market, etc?
No it says the same thing on mine shouldnt effect anything

Have you tried to revert it back to GB instead of ICS? If your phone originally came with GB, you should give it a try.

I will give it a try and report back. I'm just gonna flash uckh7 stock root with Odin right?
Didn't work. Couldn't get past the setup wizard because it kept glitching
I am out of ideas now or you may try what andreivibefm suggested to install an ICS bootloader. But as far as I have read so far from the net, it isn't recommended. You have to be extra careful for flashing a bootloader. Sorry can't help you here and good luck!
I actually finally got GB uckh7 on my phone working and I don't think the serial number is even available in the settings. The only way to read the serial number is to look at the sticker behind the battery.
All in all this works and I will ship tomorrow! Thanks!
I'm also with the OP. My phone also shows an unknown serial number. No big deal, but it would be interesting to know what causes this... Could this somehow have been caused by a previous ROM or kernel we've had on our phones, or must it be somehow caused by the current ROM or kernel?

The kies UCLE5 release that can be downloaded from SamMobile Firmware or Samsung Updates contains boot.bin (but not sbl.bin). I wondered why that was included in the distribution. I left the boot.bin out when I packaged up the UCLE5 Stock plus Root package. I could make boot.bin into a standalone tar if anyone wants to try flashing it to see if it corrects the serial number issue. At your own risk, of course.

If you updated to 4.3 you cannot go back to 4.1.1
Also going to 4.1.1 is touchy. If you were to go back you need to go to 4.1.2
Basically if you have the official 4.3 update and beyond you cannot unlock the bootloader or in some instances root.
I am using the Skynote Rc2.5 ROM but I am technically coming from 4.1.2. There is no official 4.2.x update for this version of the Note 2.

Right, I was asking because the ND3 update doesn't appear to be any different than MJ9 firmware wise except for what I assume are mostly changes in the baseband to accomodate the Telus bands. I would think that safeboot will be updated easily for this minor build but I am not any expert by any means.
I also saw people talking about for the same Telus update for the S3 to just Odin backflash VRUCNC1 4.3 to VRUCML1 4.3 with success (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2575661&page=153). Anyone tried that? I might actually try it myself to get root back. I don't this new "update". I think VZ did this more to take away root than add some really necessary Canadian roaming anyway.

Curious to see what your results are if you do try this. I also feel that VZW did this update more to take root away, especially considering that the base band could have been incorporated into the (hopefully) upcoming 4.4 update.
Yup, this annoyed me enough that I finally got an account!
this update was just to steal root. they had already tried using the my verizon app to take it. telus uses gsm and the same lte frequency verizon uses. all vzw note 2's could already "roam" on telus. this was just vzw being f**ktards trying to control us.

I was forced the vruand3 update at about 4 am while I was sleeping. I woke up to no root and some issues tied to the freedom app not being uninstalled. I flashed back to mj9 with odin. I rerooted with saferoot. I was still having the connection issues with everything google related. I took the ota update again to try to fix the issue. The google issue fixed itself after the ota, but my root wasn't taken away this time. So now I'm on build vruand3 and have full root access. Maybe someone can shed some light on this , or it will help someone

How do I know if my device has an update once rooted?

Like I rooted my 925I variant but now I see all these news articles about ram fixes and I am here like wtf do I do. Here's what I have:
Build: LRX22G.G925IDVU1AOD1
Baseband: G925IDVU1AOD2
SamMobile doesn't even have firmware for devices imported from India. I also see AOE3 for SM-G925I but it's for Trinidad? Like is it safe to flash another countries ROM?
And do I need to full wipe to update?
You come to xda and see if anyone opened a thread about a new update lol. Honestly that's how you don't... And if you have custom rom, you wait until the rom creator updates the rom. If not then you'll have to unroot to get the update

SamMobile doesn't even have firmware for devices imported from India. I also see AOE3 for SM-G925I but it's for Trinidad? Like is it safe to flash another countries ROM?
And do I need to full wipe to update?

if you dont freeze sdm.apk or are running a custom rom then even with root you will get an alert of a software update but it will just fail to install.

well their wrong. on stock OS with root you still get update alerts and have many phones all root and all got alerts of updates while root but would fail to install them which is why i never worried about freezing SDM.apk

No it doesn't even let you check for updates. Have you tried it?

This is what I get: Your device have been modified, Software updates are not available
Same here. Changes
- pingpong root
- AdAway
- Disable 50% of the stuff that comes preinstalled (FB, WhatsApp, G+, Hangouts, etc. etc.)
No update notifications possible
Same question as original post ...
once rooted, how to know if my Rom is the latest or not??
I see some OE4 roms.. is it newer than mine? does it fix the RAM issues??
So many roms nr, it's confusing to know which one is newer...
(I have
build :LRX22G.G925FXXU1OACV
baseband : OCW)
Thanks for help
Sent from my SM-G925F using XDA Free mobile app
I'm rooted via pingpong and an update showed up. Waited for download to complete but update failed. Tried twice with similar results. Phone was rebooted and when I check again for check update, it says....
So how do I know if the update was applied? I believe this update doesnt change build. I still see 5.0.2
bottom line once rooted the only updates u will c or get is when or if u get a custom rom and they update that rom
Well, I get the same too on my 925I
"Your device have been modified, Software updates are not available"
There's a new ROM for my region G925IDVU1AOE4. I heard there are slight improvements (not sure how noticeable) on the RAM management. I'll update when I have the time.
I believe as long as you have the same model number, you can flash the ROM regardless of region.
