Not an update to the stock browser per se, but ICS Browser+ is a popular replacement for it if you are on an ICS ROM. It doesn't work on Jelly Bean, but many people have chosen Chrome, FireFox or Opera over the stock browser and those all work on JB.

I've noticed that the latest releases of our android o/s's have an updated browser version. Was curious to know if they made a way for us to just update the browser on its own.

If you're trying to use a browser from Jelly Bean on ICS then I hate to be that GUY and say that that doesn't work
Also using a browser from AOSP on Sense ROMs is a NO NO.....the best alternative to the stock browser in my personal opinion would be to use Opera Mini

thank you.
q&a buddy...but to answer your question...that is not possible.
You cant run 4.0 apps on 3.2
You could try ics browser + from the market.

The Feb 3rd release of ICS for Wifi is working pretty good. I'll be using it everyday. Not going back to touch wiz, ever. Who needs a camera on their pad anyway? The browser is nice, much better than HC browsers.

Actually, the Gmail app from ICS works fine on Honeycomb. So some apps works fine, most apps not at all.
I just updated my Chrome Beta from the Market... and now it's refusing to start!
I get an error message "Chrome is not supported for your version of Android. Version 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwitch) is the minimal supported version"
HAHAHA!!! What the heck! I am on ICS!!!
So be aware... do not update Chrome!
I am on CM9 A2... was working fine until I went to market... noticed an update... installed update... BOOM!!! not compatible!
I cleared data... uninstall and reinstall... no dice.
If you do a search for Chrome it shows up... installs fine... which would mean that it's supported but it's not.
So do not update to the latest Beta. Wait until Google figures out what's wrong with it first.
Damn... now I have to see if I had made a back up of the old one... Does any one have an apk of the previous builds?
Got it back!!! I didn't have a backup but my Captivate ICSSGS V4.2 had Chrome Beta... without the latest update... I got Chrome working on TP working again. Phew!!! I was starting to like Chrome a lot on my TP...

Google has disabled Chrome for custom ROMS, including CM9. I cannot post a link due to my post count, but there are articles out there.

That stinks!!! I have not read that article... but I just saw a blurp on Engadget about the enhancements the new updated version brings! Why would Google want to shut down custom ICS roms!!! Open Source... wasn't that the name of their game????!!!
YEAH What the heck, I did the same thing as you, I downloaded the update and bammmm "Chrome is not supported for your version of Android"
Ohh come on...
I am so glad I saw this thread before I updated Chrome on my TP. I installed ICS on my GS2 today and saw the update. It ran fine on there (it's a "custom" ROM based on the stock rom), but when I got home that would have been the first update I ran on the TP. It's a good thing the WiFi here at the office doesn't work in CM9, else I'd be in the same boat!

HP Touchpad running CM9 Alpha 2
Here is how I fixed it: Back up your build.prop, and find the line for ro.build.id and change the value to IML74K. Reboot. Enjoy new Chrome update.
I haven't found that the change breaks anything.
hey thanks!

Thanks, changing the build prop worked wonderfully on my HP Touchpad.
Also, the fix worked beautifully on my phone as well:
HTC Inspire 4G running Android ICS Aospx(opensource version)
I found that it lagged horribly anyway. Is this only me?
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk
It's rather laggy browser, yes. Loading time is not nice on TPm and on SGS it's nearly unusable because of the ram consumption.
By the way, it's not the Google who is breaking Chrome, it's CM9

Problem is not on google but CM9 use Gingerbread build id instead of ICS build id.

I would think this means there is a good chance this can be resolved in the next version of CM9 then.
I'm just curious, if possible, on a quick rundown on how porting aosp apps to Samsung based roms works.
Ics roms and apps more specifically.

I think it's possible, because they are both running ICS, as long as you don't want the system apps like Phone or Messaging

If you don't want to root, then most are on Google Play Store. Eg search for Android 4.1 Jellybean Calendar (by Tim Hutt).

I'm already rooted, so if there's better solutions I'm all ears. Thanks!
What i was doing was downloading a CM10 nightly, and copy/renaming the apps over...
Could only do this for email, Exchange, MMS and Calender. Email causes FC so need to wipe cache on app etc.
Works 100%. Easier still, drop them into the ROM before flashing.
Or bite the bullet with the latest CM10 in all its JB glory now source was released.

It should be possible to swap most apks, but Im also interested if there is a good faq that works with TouchWiz phones.
Sent from a gadget...
Rename the original system app and replace and install with the new app but remaned the same as what the original was.
Works with email, calender, sms/mms, etc.
Remove Calendar, mail etc and flash "gapps" from CM. Or select the ones you want from the zip and transfer those apk's to system/apps manually (not forgetting permissions).
There are many ways.
Search and investigate

Android stock dialer is crap though.
How do you fix that monstrosity?
Hey Guys,
I found these over in the Galaxy Nexus forum but it works with my PA 2.53 Nov.4 build. Its the Full google apps for 4.2 Jelly Bean including: the Launcher, Gmail, calendar, clock, ringtones, wall papers, camera, gallery, keyboard, and playstore 3.9.17. I found only one issue so far and its that the launcher doesn't show a tab in my settings so i can modify homescreen settings and whatnot. You can still use the original that comes with the ROM though. Its pretty cool so check em out and let me know if you see the same issue i did or any others and try to post what ROM your using and your kernal) if its different than the one that came with the ROM (ex//im using PA 2.53 Nov.4th with the KKX. 12 kernal) so others can help as best as possible.

Its not the video player that is broken its the recorder, it doesnt seem to be supported or something for some reason. I just download camera ICS for video recording and it works fine. The camera and gallery would be worth it to me but along with that you just get an updated version of Gmail and other google apps. It's cool if you're into staying up to date with the newest and greatest.

This one? The one that has the gapps listed in the first post? 4.2 gapps will just cause you problems with the camera, and it's a downgrade from the 4.1 camera.
Some one already posted this. No need for another thread.
A little search will take you very far
