Not sure if anyone has noticed this, but the storage app is showing Pictures, Videos as 8GB+ but when I select that entry, it shows up a few MB of files (DCIM, camera phone pictures). there's nothing on the internal memory in terms of pictures and videos.
Also Total Space is 11.35GB, and Available is 9.87GB with 1.31 GB taken up by apps.
so I'd say the Pictures, Videos entry is just plain wrong, not that it's counting random images stored in the memory.
Tried clearing cache, dalvik etc, but no joy, it just won't show properly.
Anyone notice this problem or have a fix handy ?

Alright, so Ive been saving things to my storage card and what not; But my Hd2 is telling me my devices main memory is running low on space.
Wtf?
I dont save things to the main memory, Im saving it to the Storage Card, 16 Gb. I cant even get the full potential of my Storage Card because my Hd2, keeps warning me that my memory is low. I have loads of space still on my storage card, but my main device has 3 Mb left.
This is very aggitating.
Can someone check this out, cause Im completly lost.
Lack of memory
Sorry, I can't help as the same thing is frustrating me also.
Only way i found was to limit the amount of applications on the phone.
Even if you install to your SD card, your phone memory goes up also.
Grrrrrrr
opera cache, windows temp, youtube cache, photo album cache, install temp folder,,,, and more, they're all in main memory and fill up.
search on clearing temp folders.
windows/opera9/profiles/cache
windows/temp
application data/volatile
windows/profiles/guest/(3 sub folders)
temp/
just to get you started.

I have just installed a cab to my device and realised when it gave me the option of Device or Storage Card that the available space on my device has mysteriously dropped by around 13Mb and I haven't installed or moved anything since I last checked the available space! I have had a look through the device folders to see if anything has been creating large caches but can't see anything obvious. I have used Clear Temp to delete anything temporary but that only freed up 536k so nothing there. Does anyone have any suggestions what might be causing this or where I might look?
album cache.
opera cache.
Google Maps cache.
etc etc etc

Click to collapse
All cleared with Clear Temp (anyway, I haven't used any of these during the time in question)
With my HD2 I found I would continually run out of space. The culprit turned out to be the Opera Downloads directory (/windows/opera/profiles/download).
If the main space on the device is filling up and you're mainly mainly using your browser and you've already done stuff like moved your Album photos to the storage card then this could be the culprit.
I mention that because although Opera showed no files in the Downloads directory via Opera settings, when I actually inspected the directory there was about 80mb of files in there (I should also note that ClearTemp which I installed to fix the problem didn't identify this either).
Deleted the files and moved both the Opera cache and the Opera downloads to the storage card via the opera:config settings and I no longer have a problem with the main storage space filling up.
The other thing that did make a difference was specifying in the mail app that attachments should be stored on the storage card as well.
I'm having a reoccurring issue with cached thumbnails on my prime every few months, this is the second or third time I have been nearing full capacity on my prime off /data alone. The problem is that I'll always have an obscene number of that in gallery thumbnails. I had the stock gallery app and quickpic installed, but I just removed stock to see if that fixes anything. This time SD maid picked up 6gb of cached thumbnails.
My music and videos stored on my microsd card, and I clean browser downloads weekly, so not much beside /data is on the internal storage.
What worries me is this might be a system issue, has anyone else experienced this problem?
If you're having issues with memory, and you know you have more memory than displayed; check one of these places.
DCIM: picture storage, but it will sometimes cache EVERY .jpg file on your device. A couple of reboots will usually do away with this.
com.cooliris.media: this is also a cache for pics and data of some sort. Take a look at this and erase the cache. It stores your photo or video meta info, unencrypted. It had 333 MB of my memory and info stored. *chunk_0* is where your data is stored unencrypted.
LOST.DIR: I just had 2.4 GB wind up in here. Spent an hour looking for the culprit and finally found it by using Storage Analyser from the Play Store.
This isn't normal cache, this is huge chunks of data being placed in these areas.
If I find any more unusual spots that suck up memory, and the cause, I'll try and add it here.
**ALWAYS double check before randomly erasing stuff**
Yeah, this is why I use a cache cleaner (All-In-One Toolbox).
Cache cleaners won't clear out LOST.DIR or chunk_0.
Sorry, I meant an SD card cleaner.
so i was always wondering whats taking up so much space on my dna...
says i have 10.42gb used up somehow... but in storage it says apps 1.67gb images 1.03gb videos 0 audio 200kb other 10.40mbs cached data 182mbs... i also checked in explore and i cant find anything...
i also have no rom backups, The rom i have on it now is dirty uinicorns 6.0.1
What can be taking all this space?
no buddy?
Where are you looking at to check the space available? are you checking in Settings - Storage & USB?, if so, what does it read there for Android System, Apps, Images, Videos, Audio, Other, Cached Data? There are other ways to check also, by for example using the app called "File Manager (File Transfer)" that has a storage analysis function that might be in other apps also, that should give you the space taken up on the user storage
