Hi everyone,
I came here to ask some question with you guys. I have my S2 for a year now and I notice that my internal memory is getting low and low and low. So I downloaded airdroid just to see my files detail on where my memory is going.

It's probably used by programs you installed. If you don't care for those programs, try to uninstall them. That will free up some space.

"Others" is just the collection of all not video, not picture and not music files on your sd card.
It could be downloads, backups, system/cache files, app data (e.g. local maps, offline information, etc.), emails, messages, contacts, calendar entries, etc.
So, "Others" gives you nearly no additional information about what it is really.
You should have a closer look at your sd card content with a file explorer, such as ES File Explorer (free app from Google Play store).
Then browse your files.
Some suggestions:
1. Maybe you can remove all unused apps in menu "Settings" > "Applications" first. Some apps need much storage on your sd card - especially those with local/offline data.
2. And check your email/messages. Maybe you can remove all old entries to get more free space on your internal storage.
3. Check your download/browser folder(s). Maybe there is a high internet "cache". In most browsers you can set an option to remove the internet cache.
Good luck !

Hi all,
Currently I'm using Sensation XE. Therefore need some advise.
When I plug in my USB cable to the PC, it give me this few option:
1) Charge only
2) Disk Drive
3) HTC Sync
4) USB Tethering
5) Internet pass-thru
At default i set to (1) Charge only. But if I wanna access the SD card, i need to select (2) Disk Drive. But it will dismount the SD card and become removable Disk.
Is it suppose to work this way? If so, How to I copy all those files I backup from (my old HD2) into this phone?
Or rather i wanna copy some movie or files from PC, how to go about it?
I also have backup the favourites from HD2 (WinMobile 6.5), which fodler do i put this in? It also seems that I cant see the systems folder even when i enable it to be viewable in my comp.
Many thanks for the advise.
This is how android works
You can put your files into any part of SD. Use any movie player to play or open your file.
Android system storage stores system files, data, apps, games only. You won't see and edit system data unless you got root access

When I use the HTC Syn, it dun allow me to indicate where should i install (Phone or SD storage). Moreover it go to a certain like 'Document', 'media'..etc
This is where i need to go search for them.
Weird things is when i import mp3 songs, it dun go to the 'Music folder' as i expected. Can't seem to locate where they are. But when I launch the music software, i can see those Mp3 song inside.

Why don't you copy and paste it manually? So you will know where do you put those files. HTC sync is a software made by HTC to sync those important stuff between phone and computer. Normally it will be installed in phone memory as sensation has a large internal memory.

I can't even move files across if I dun use HTC Sync.
Cos it will unmount the SD card and treat it as removable drive.
Furthermore the folder I see via the phone using ES file explorer and what I see on the comp is different.

Hello. I am running very low on RAM (internal memory) on my Original Droid RAZR. I am aware that there are root apps that use SD Card memory as RAM. Some apps are: "RAM Manager" and "Swapit RAMEXPANDER by ROEHSOFT". You can get them in the Play Store.
Video of one of the apps:
Will this actually work? Thanks.
wait...ram or internal memory?? ram can't be changed but you can increase your internal memory by swapping it with your sd card...in razr its easy to do so...you do need root though
you do that by changing the "sdcard-ext" to "sdcard" and sdcard to sdcard-ext"

Sorry, I am getting them confused. I meant to say Internal Memory. So I can just swap it with ALL of my SD Card space? Or can I choose how much? and with what app do I do this with? Thanks for reply.

He is trying to use some extra storage space on his sdcard as a sort of page file or swap file to give him more memory for the OS to run in I think. Who knows with people, myself included, interchanging the terms memory, RAM, and storage. I do it, but it is inadvertant.

Yes that is exactly what I want to do. Is it possible without root?
No its isn't!
After rooting you ccan make a 'partition' on your sd card that will be assigned to the phone memory. You can use link to sd for this and make partition through CWM...once you read about rooting youll get to know about CWM..so search around this forum..
Hit  if it helped

This may be the most stupid question ever but I have a Galaxy SII running Samsung 4.1.2 ROM rooted and deodexed, but the /system folder only has a limited amount of space even though I have 16GB internal memory, is there a way to sacrifice some usable memory to get more /system memory so I can add some stuff to /sysem/app etc?
Thanks
So you want to increase the actual sdcard-size?
I don't think that's possible. You could install some sd-tools that free up unused space and thereby give you more space to use.
Or you could just delete files and apps you don't need.
But as far as I'm concerned increacing actual sd-size is not possible.
I don't own a S3, but I guess it doesn't have a external_sd-slot?

No, I mean if I go to root explorer and then /sysem/app, it only shows like 8MB available even though my SD card is 16GB, is there a way I can increase system memory so I can force install sysem apps and custom frameworks without having to worry about that limit?
The system partition is separate to your internal sdcard, if you go to storage in system settings you can see an internal storage of about 2gb, your 16 gb internal sdcard and also any micro sd you might have installed. Apps installed to phone reside in the 2gb storage unless they are moved to the sdcard (16gb).
I have about 200mb free in my system partition but it varies based on the Rom you are using and any system apps that are installed.

That's why you don't have much system partition space left, most of those apps would be installed there. But like I said your system partition is different to where your user apps are installed. Change to a lighter Rom if you want to push more apps to your system/apps folder.

If you are able to boot into a separate partition, such as with custom recovery, you can repartition and get the system:internal:external ratio you need. Of course, this would require knowledge of your partition layout, the ability to use 'parted', and some knowledge of how to format a drive via the command line.

I was looking for this for a while, and finally found the solution on Youtube video posted by Saurabh.
He re-Partitioned the USB drive and gave more capacity 4,6 or 8GB to Device memory and it worked like magic as shown in the Image attached.
Would post the Step by Step Blog post here but i'm a New user so, can't post links - Search this exact phrase on Google "Storage Space running out" permanent Solution for Samsung Galaxy S II GT-I9100" you should find it on Ngbuzz Forum
Since I got the new version of 4.1.2 the device memory is completely full and I can barely do anything with the phone.
The apps are only taking 400MB and I have no idea what's taking the rest.
Please advise.
Thank you

hi...
i had a similar problem on my sgs2 (with cm 10.1-20130710-NIGHTLY-i9100). it turned out to be a bug that was filling the folder /data/log with log files because of connection problems with the cellular network. the log files were using up more than 1 gb of space. if you have root you could take a look if that's using up your space.

Seems /data partition is full. It's unaccessible without root.
I have looking similar situation 2 times, and solved with root magiic.
First time my external sdcars got a corrupted file with strange name - nobody knows how it was, but then media indexer gone mad - it consumes cpu for a days, and fill /data volume with kind of incomplete indexes.
Happy end was - to fix extenal sdcard filesystem, then clear media indexer data.
second case was caused with flickr uploader program. because of error in program (now it fixed) it writes a tons of data into log file, pllaced inside /data. Was fixed by removing program with all application data.
Both of that cases was fixed technically without a root, but first step was running "Storage Analyser" in root mode - to find folder with abnormal large size on /data partition.

paranoidisc tell truth. I run a filesystem check and fix on my PC, because error was at SD card.
you still can run a check filesystem on a PC unil filesystem is FAT and volume can be exported via USB as block deice ("usb storage").
or u can try this method suggested by @esd from NeatRom
Install this on your PC

Yes. I know you're going to tell me to use the search or google, etc. But believe me when I say I have tried a lot already.
I'm getting this error when I try to install or update almost every APK on my Android. SOME will install or update and I can tell you there's nothing to do with file size. The storages seem to have plenty of free space, apps install smoothly when I factory reset my phone, but after a few days I start getting this annoying error.
I'm running the latest Nightly build from CyanogemMod for LG p720h (Yea, it's not stable and I know I should expect some... erm... bugs). It's Android 4.1.2.
I know the Internal Storage is emulated and have tried many many many fixes I found in this very forum and all over the internet. I'm a game developer so I know a few things about adb shell/logcats but couldn't find/understand anything analizing those during an APK install. I can provide logs, etc.
Can anyone help me find out how to solve this problem? Any idea of what's going on?

Is because your phone doesn't have enough ram(storage for apps) to hold those apps. If you have an sd card you can use AppMgr III (App 2 SD):

You can move apps to either internal or external storage

I was able to install this app but it didn't work, it says the primary external storage is emulated. The Storage manager says it has 548mb free space on my internal storage which should be plenty.
And even if I uninstall an app 50mb big I can't install other apps, even if they're 1MB or less. I don't think it has anything to do with "real" available storage.
