Hi all,
Currently I'm using Sensation XE. Therefore need some advise.
When I plug in my USB cable to the PC, it give me this few option:
1) Charge only
2) Disk Drive
3) HTC Sync
4) USB Tethering
5) Internet pass-thru
At default i set to (1) Charge only. But if I wanna access the SD card, i need to select (2) Disk Drive. But it will dismount the SD card and become removable Disk.
Is it suppose to work this way? If so, How to I copy all those files I backup from (my old HD2) into this phone?
Or rather i wanna copy some movie or files from PC, how to go about it?
I also have backup the favourites from HD2 (WinMobile 6.5), which fodler do i put this in? It also seems that I cant see the systems folder even when i enable it to be viewable in my comp.
Many thanks for the advise.
This is how android works
You can put your files into any part of SD. Use any movie player to play or open your file.
Android system storage stores system files, data, apps, games only. You won't see and edit system data unless you got root access

When I use the HTC Syn, it dun allow me to indicate where should i install (Phone or SD storage). Moreover it go to a certain like 'Document', 'media'..etc
This is where i need to go search for them.
Weird things is when i import mp3 songs, it dun go to the 'Music folder' as i expected. Can't seem to locate where they are. But when I launch the music software, i can see those Mp3 song inside.

Why don't you copy and paste it manually? So you will know where do you put those files. HTC sync is a software made by HTC to sync those important stuff between phone and computer. Normally it will be installed in phone memory as sensation has a large internal memory.

I can't even move files across if I dun use HTC Sync.
Cos it will unmount the SD card and treat it as removable drive.
Furthermore the folder I see via the phone using ES file explorer and what I see on the comp is different.

After a hard reset my HD was fast again and no errors. I installed all software I need, and before that I could copy files to the micro-SD of my HD2 from Win 7 Explorer while Active Sync was activated. Now after setting up everything I get an error everytime I want to copy a file that explorer cant copy the file. Using the SD-card as HDD causes no such errors. Only when Active Sync and Mobile center are active. This happens not all the time, but most of.
The pic shows the software i installed to my HD2 (internal on phone)

This has been covered many times before , and with a search you might have found it but i will go over it again ....
This has been a known issue with Activesync for a long time, I say known but less common, it is more common with W7, but still there is no rhyme or reason as to what machines/phones it affects, (if someone knows please tell me), it has to do with the conversion module in activesync, but that is all I know about it ...
The Way around it is SIMPLE, connect your phone to the pc and "forget activesync exists", and when the little box on your phone pops up asking how to connect select disk drive ... Your phone will then show up as a removable drive and you can copy files fine ...
If you no longer get the popup box goto "Start Menu>Settings>Connections>USB to PC" , and check the little box that says "Ask me ......."
Thx. Yeah, maybe I could have used the search more precisely. And what you wrote lets me hesitate in Microsoft once more. But hey - ok, I can live with that. And using the card as drive is what I´ve been doing since and ever when this bug/error appears. Thx anyway.
(Was just thinking it had something to do with some app I installed or something, sorry for wasting your time btw)
try settings menu all settings connections usb to pc and UNtick "faster data transfer.
seems to help for some.

Yeah forgot that ...
I have been looking around at this, I think it actually may have to do with a codec issues, when you install 3rd party codecs it may screw up the built in conversion in activesync, even though the file does not really need to be converted, when activesync goes to check the file to see if it does need converted it bombs ....
Ok, thx you two.
I figured out now that it must have to do with this error report.
communication (0x80072745) error connecting Windows Mobile device
Source: RapiMgr
Event-ID: 8
I updated the driver for the mobile device via online update at the hardware manager snap-in and since then this sporadic appearing error did not occur again. Hope this was the solution.
I really hope so.
I am having difficulty accessing external storage connected via USB, micro SD card or the SD card in the keyboard. If I use the built in app FILE MANAGER, I have no problems. If I try and use ASTRO or GHOST COMMANDER I can NOT see these external storage media.
The path for the MicroSD card shows /Removable/MicroSD/ when I use FILE MANAGER.
If I use the program WiFi File Explorer PRO I can access all storage media.
Is this because ROOT is needed?
Is there a setting that I need to configure somewhere?
Is this a limitation of Honeycomb and ICS?
Are ALL apps (except FILE MANAGER) blocked from accessing external storage?
Have I overlooked something very simple?
Thanks for your help.

I think its how the later versions of honeycomb did the memory grouping. as you know without a memory card inserted, the normal internal and external memory is all merged together to make more room. there was initial complaints of how storage for apps n games was only limited to 1gb or less. that's why apps came out and features that allowed you to move the bulk of the app to SD card. now honeycomb or even previous android versions has upped that one and busted merged all of internal and external memory together. so you would have full access to memory storage needed. like you could literally waste up all of storage with apps n games if you wanted.
now as far as the issue with memory card goes, those other apps are having a hard time distinguishing the merged internal/external memory with the SD card external memory. of course Asus optimized its built in file manager to distinguish the difference. I think these other file explorer apps either need updating, root access, or maybe a change in the settings somewhere to be able to distinguish the difference and allow you to see the SD card.
I would still think with good searching, the SD card could be found within those other apps. just the same path taken with the stock app might be different for the 3rd party ones. have you tried ES explorer or Root exploerer to see if it shows in those? both are free in marketplace.
good thread though as I plan to get a memory card also asap. post back if those other apps could see it or not. maybe enable the settings to show all files/hidden files n it might pop up then.
Astro works fine if you navigate to / then removable and then microsd
Es won't work because it won't let you navigate to / which is an issue with the app not anything related to root.

The easy way
I using Astro, i loved, but in the way to get it work righ you have to do this:
Go to >preferences>Directory Options>Removable Storage and change SD Card directory to (/Removable/MicroSD) and USB Directory to (/Removable/USBdisk1

It is possible to navigate in Es by setting the home directory in settings to .. (dot dot). You can then see Removable in the listing.

Just enable "Up to Root" in the settings menu. From there you can navigate anywhere.
When i tried copying my Titanium Backup folder to my PC , windows explorer threw an error saying "Unspecified Error" (Yeah! very helpful :silly
Strangely I could copy all other folders. But I got the error again while trying to copy my CWM recovery folder.
Even more strange is that some files from these two folders are missing completely in the explorer but are visible on my phone.
Then I tried using adb and Voila! i could pull / push files without any problem.
I tried reinstalling all drivers etc but still got the same error . It was also showing the same error on my friends laptop as well.
Any one else facing this problem? any ideas on how i can fix this ? (It is hectic copying files using adb )
Check screen shots
Sorry for the big images

I know this is an older post but I had the same issues today and thought I might tell you what I found.
After several tries of moving files over to my Windows 8 machine I tried something different. I moved the entire Titanium Backup folder into another folder on my phone (thought maybe something was accessing the files making them inaccessible. I recieved an error on a few files but the majority copied over.
From this new copied folder I was able to copy everything over to my computer. This allowed me to compare the files that copied and the ones that didn't. After comparing these I realized that I recently deleted some apps and these backups were appearing on Windows Explorer but NOT showing up on my phone.
It looks like this issue is caused by Windows inability to update the files and folder correctly. I know that I have had issues with this in the past. Changing files on my phone and not seeing any affect on my windows machine, even after refreshing the screen.
Has anyone experienced this? Does someone have a solution or work around?
I had the same issue with my xgo but i solve it by changing convesity mode to mass storage but u won't be able to access internal storage of phone u would try changing folder name from file explorer might appear

i have the same problem but...
nothing seems to be working for me... what can i do? when i move files, delete files, rename files, etc, the changes dont reflect in my windows 8 laptop. wtf?? help plz
I have noticed that if you are writing to your memory while transferring the files, the error is shown. Try to make sure no other app is using the memory while transferring the files

I was just having this issue, so I decided to try an adb pull of the folder instead. I was able to copy everything from the titanium backup folder to my temp folder on my laptop (windows 8.1) so if you run into the issue again, maybe give that a try.
NOTE: I'm using the OPO, so not sure how it will do with a Sony device.
Es file explorer does the trick
Download ES File Explorer.
Navigate to the Backup folder, copy all the files inside it, and paste it in a new folder with a different name.
Try copying this new folder. Should work!
Hi everyone,

It's probably used by programs you installed. If you don't care for those programs, try to uninstall them. That will free up some space.

"Others" is just the collection of all not video, not picture and not music files on your sd card.
It could be downloads, backups, system/cache files, app data (e.g. local maps, offline information, etc.), emails, messages, contacts, calendar entries, etc.
So, "Others" gives you nearly no additional information about what it is really.
You should have a closer look at your sd card content with a file explorer, such as ES File Explorer (free app from Google Play store).
Then browse your files.
Some suggestions:
1. Maybe you can remove all unused apps in menu "Settings" > "Applications" first. Some apps need much storage on your sd card - especially those with local/offline data.
2. And check your email/messages. Maybe you can remove all old entries to get more free space on your internal storage.
3. Check your download/browser folder(s). Maybe there is a high internet "cache". In most browsers you can set an option to remove the internet cache.
Good luck !

Since I got the new version of 4.1.2 the device memory is completely full and I can barely do anything with the phone.
The apps are only taking 400MB and I have no idea what's taking the rest.
Please advise.
Thank you

hi...
i had a similar problem on my sgs2 (with cm 10.1-20130710-NIGHTLY-i9100). it turned out to be a bug that was filling the folder /data/log with log files because of connection problems with the cellular network. the log files were using up more than 1 gb of space. if you have root you could take a look if that's using up your space.

Seems /data partition is full. It's unaccessible without root.
I have looking similar situation 2 times, and solved with root magiic.
First time my external sdcars got a corrupted file with strange name - nobody knows how it was, but then media indexer gone mad - it consumes cpu for a days, and fill /data volume with kind of incomplete indexes.
Happy end was - to fix extenal sdcard filesystem, then clear media indexer data.
second case was caused with flickr uploader program. because of error in program (now it fixed) it writes a tons of data into log file, pllaced inside /data. Was fixed by removing program with all application data.
Both of that cases was fixed technically without a root, but first step was running "Storage Analyser" in root mode - to find folder with abnormal large size on /data partition.

paranoidisc tell truth. I run a filesystem check and fix on my PC, because error was at SD card.
you still can run a check filesystem on a PC unil filesystem is FAT and volume can be exported via USB as block deice ("usb storage").
or u can try this method suggested by @esd from NeatRom
Install this on your PC

connect your phone in mass storage mode and delete it using unlocker.
