Problems with corporate Exchange sync on S3 only - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Gentlemen,
My company is using an Outlook / Exchange infrastructure with no access from the outside (except using VPN and Token).
In the company there is a Wifi network where many people are connecting their private smartphone with to sync the Exchange Server. It's not supported but it works and the IT's don't do anything against it.
My old HTC worked well, iPhone, iPad, other tablets, mainly all phones are working. My new S3 doesn't.
The problem is only occurring when I try using the built-in ActiveSync account. Moxier for instance is able to connect but I would like to see my private and business calendar together. And Moxier calendar is crap.
I know that a colleague had the same problem with his S2 when it was new. After a firmware update the problem was gone.
I have already tried a lot incl. FR, installed certificates and much more.
Has anybody an idea what is different with the S3 ActiveSync?
Any help is much appreciated!
Thanks
Axel

Do you have the ICS or JB? If I remember well some people having the ICS reported this as bug.
And btw, welcome in XDA community

When the phone was new it was ICS with T-Mobile branding. No sync.
Now I have the unbranded JB stock rom. Still no sync.

I remember it was reported as broken in ics but not sure about the jb. I have no way to verify that.

No such a problem with my S3 using corporate exchange account.
Everything is working just fine.

Email not getting pushed to Atrix

I haven't been getting my emails through my phone like usual. I checked all the setting and everything is good. I've power off the phone many times as well to see if thy would help but nope. Anybody experiencing this problem? Any fixes?

Yahoo, Gmail, Windows Live, Comcast, and AKO. I mainly use my yahoo and gmail but I'm not getting any emails from any of them.
I use the stock ROM (not rooted) so the emails are supposed to be pushed to the phone through the email engine (or whatever its called). I dont use any apps for my email.
For gmail : https://market.android.com/details?id=com.google.android.gm
For yahoo : https://market.android.com/details?id=com.yahoo.mobile.client.android.mail
But you can go to settings->account and sync and just configure it there, should work fine..
I'm having this problem with email Push on my Atrix and Inspire, both running stock Gingerbread. I also have a Captivate running a leaked OEM Gingerbread rom, and it does NOT have this issue. My Atrix didn't have a problem with this until the OTA 2.3.4 update. What I believe I have found to be behind the problem is the way at&t's 4G network handles background data with Gingerbread. It's not maintaining a persistent connection for some reason, but my 3G Captivate has no problems.
Essentially, I blame the network. 4G background data delivery doesn't seem to be playing well with Gingerbread. When I switch to wifi, no problemo. Email pushes just fine. I even had an at&t store employee tell me that he was having problems with his work email on Exchange having massive delays on his Atrix.
Unfortunately, I haven't had any luck convincing customer support that this is the problem. No one has been able to help resolve this.
EDIT: I only have one gmail account running, and it's my primary email account. And yes, I have the gmail app installed and configured properly for notifications.

[Q] Exchange email stops working

Hi Guys,
Since about a week ago (XXLPH firmware), my Exchange email stopped working.
Just says Connection Error all the time.
I can wipe the email settings, then enter them again, it will connect and start downloading mail, then stops and says connection error.
My Transformer is fine with all the same settings.
I upgraded the software to XXLPQ, did a full wipe and Factory Reset and still the same.
Any ideas please?
Thanks.
Faced the same problem, reverted back to GB all is well...
Tried lot of things but didn't work with ICS using Samsung email client, although Maildroid was working fine.
Same here, but only with my work account (Exchange 2010) - works fine with my (hosted) personal Exchange account (which is on Exchange 2007 AFAIK).
It's been this way with all ICS leaks. Yesterday I thought I got it working by adding the accounts the other way around, but today I'm getting connection error again. I think it's got something to do with the Device Administrator setting, because I never get that prompt for the second account I add, whereas I'm pretty sure I did on GB.
Using Enhanced Email in the meantime which works fine, but the Samsung client has some great features

I too have the same issue - Connecting to the Exchange Server at work (Exchange 2007), I have no issue. The Exchange Server at home (2010) continually shows up with "Connection Error". XXLPH installed here too.
Me too
Been driving me crazy. I agree it seems to be about the RSA device permissions. I think I'll have to go back to GB. Dammit, I wiped everything and have wasted all of today on this ...

They say replying to yourself is the first sign of madness ...
But I wonder if Samsung will fix this before pushing out the official UK update next week.
Hmmm ... I'm surprised more people haven't reported this.
Same here. Updated yesterday to XXLPQ and have had the Connection Error ever since...

I sent a link to this thread to Samsung Support, let's see what happens...
I've been looking into this (and learning a lot about EAS at the same time) - and have narrowed it down to XXLPH not liking the security policies contained within the Exchange ActiveSync Mailbox Policy that is being used. trouble is, no amount of fiddling has given me a long term solution (I have got it to work for short periods of time though).
I suspect that installing an Exchange 2007 CAS in my infrastructure and pointing my Galaxy S II to that will provide a workaround - but that's hardly a long-term solution. If that works, then forcing the handset to connect using an older version of the ActiveSync protocol should also work. This may be a more achievable workaround if I can figure out how to do it!
it's also failing with gmail/google mail for apps added as an Exchange Activesync. when upgrading from GB, 1 of 2 of my gapps accounts stopped getting new mail. after a full wipe, both accounts now fail to fetch any mail or folders. logcat shows the error "Email:SecFeatureWrapper(6658): Was not initiated" while refreshing mails.
I'm having the exact same issues but for me they seem to be related to Hotmail (and it's Exchange 2003-like EAS protocol. The moment I add m.hotmail.com as an Exchange account, my other corporate and Office365 stop syncing.
The moment I remove the Hotmail account, all other Exchange accounts start working again. Very strange.
You guys added Exchange2003 or Hotmail mailboxes? I found this issue on nearly all SGS2 ICS build.. currently on LPQ.

Aha! That explains it. I couldn't figure out why everything was working tickety-boo this morning and then the Exchange (Work) stopped working. Must have been cause I added hotmail as an exchange server too.
Indeed that also explains why I thought it was working when I added the other account first - I guess it was in fact working up to the point where I added the second account ;-)

I only have Exchange 2003. It was working fine until about two weeks ago.
Trying K-9 mail now, Touchdown doesn't work either.
I've tried the exchange mail app from one of the ICS leaks. My main issue is the scheduled mail just not seem to work. For peak time I don't need push mail, only needs to check every 4 odd hours, but even though I've set it up like that it still keeps on pushing mail whenever a new email comes in.
Can anyone confirm that the email client works properly with only one account installed?
I would be happy enough to do that, and use the MS Hotmail dedicated app for my personal email if I knew it worked.
Anyone doing this?

No not even with one account.
Exchange 2010 Problem
I had this problem with an Exchange 2010 account when the email retrieval size was all works just fine on 100kb, no connection errors at all. Although Hotmail seems fine when email retrieval size is all.
I have used all ICS Beta and official ICS Versions. All Version have the Exchange Bug.

Samsung Galaxy S II I9100 ->Galaxy S II Q&A -> Exchange sync issues since
I have the same problem. My Exchange server stopped synching after upgrading from GB 2.3.5 to ICS 4.03. I tried every setting possible but it just doesn't work! Any suggestions?
I had this problem too and found a solution. I use Moxier Mail (Exchange) to sync instead of the stock app.

Serious bug on all s3's

Mail for exchange using your company email doesn't work in native Email client works in gmail app.
Phone signal is very dodgy and both my phones had severe call dropping issues, no its not my network!
Confirmed by Samsung they have any other issues with it too eg mails not syncing on corporate acs using google apps, huge bug with cell reception
Samsung told me that the phone was tested in Korea and not anywhere else they didnt see these issues cos in Korea they didn't test the email bug for providers abroad.- duh, stupid excuse!
Dont buy if using for work emails it's the worst phone for it and ofcourse for the signal and battery issues rapid discharge lasted only for 6 hours MAX
I had 2 and sold them both cos I got so frustrated trying to set it up.
My corporate exchange account works perfectly in the S III`s mail (not GMail) client.
There is, however, one feature that is missing from the S2, which is the ability to sync the Notes from my Exchange account. With the S2 I`d write notes in Outlook and then they`d automagically appear in the S2. With the S3 the S-Memo apps replaces Notes and it`s quite useless in that sense.

Can't say anything about emails as I only sync mail on my tablet. But you're wrong about receptionband battery life. Reception is just as good as the S and S2 for me with no dropped calls so far. As for battery life, I can get over 5 hours of screen time with a total up time of 20 hours with regular use consisting of browsing and gaming.

Perhaps not in your firmware or your particular configuration.
In the LF6 (or was it LF2?) it works fine sync'ing to an Exchange 2010 Server via activesync (exchange push.) At least it works fine for me with my configuration.
Sometimes can be due to OSI layer 9 = user problem. Especially migrated from iphone which they don't understand how to use the system and they started to complaning the phone and follow by provider lastly the manufacturer.

I have had very good experience with Enhanced Email (3rd party client) on all my phones. It's paid though, but worth it.

Yes, there are some issues with Google Apps accounts and the e-mail client. It works fine with standard exchange server accounts though.

I have no battery issues either. In fact this phone has the best battery life amongst all the Android phones I have owned.
Phone signal is good for me, certainly better than my HTC Sensation.

Exchange works fine in native email app, although I recommend Enhanced Email or Touchdown. I have several accounts running.

No, he's not a joke. At least one more person has reported that the e-mail client does not work with Google Apps exchange accounts, although on other phones it does. It works fine with 'normal' exchange server accounts.
There is another thread about this in the General section.

On my SIII ( Canada, Telus ), exchange email client crashes occasionally. I have lot of rules ( client side ) that move email to folders depending on sender, subject etc. I originally thought that crash may be due to email getting moved to another folder by outlook while SIII's client was still trying to grab it or something... However it will also crash when I am not using my laptop and therefore have no other client reading my exchange email.
Not sure if symptoms you see are similar or something different.
Biggest bug I've seen is insects flying at the S3's screen mistaking it for a truck window.
Maybe you mixed something up or i don't understand something correct, exchange is microsoft exchange and works flawless (at least for me), gmail is another thing which got nothing to do with exchange.
For gmail you got your own dedicated app, no need for integration within the Samsung email app and if you still want to use it there, make sure to use imap and not exchange, because this is only to synchronize to Microsoft exchange servers.
Last but not least, no call problems or signal drops from my side and I'm getting juice for a full day with moderat to heavy use, also it's a bit heavy to title it as serious bug in all s3 only because you and some others can't get it to work.
Edit: just checked it and added my gmail account as common mail account (to get the mails at the Samsung app) works flawless even no need to set a server myself, i would recommend you to read properly and check the matter before moaning something does not work at all devices.

Exchange works perfectly here, signal is actually better than iPhone 4 and SGS2 for me.

ICS Exchange Problems

My exchange email has stopped. All of a sudden it stopped syncing and gave me an error. I removed the account and then re added the account and it says couldn't open connection to server. How can I fix this and what would cause it. Please help.
I am running paranoid android rom. I wiped cache and davlaich cache as well.
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda app-developers app
What error code did it give you?
None. Just said it could not open connection to server. It just started doing this today and it wouldn't work so I removed account and now can't even add it back
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda app-developers app
Usually with those it either means there's a certificate error or the port/security settings have been changed on the server side. Can you check the settings with your server admin?
It happened on my tablet too over the weekend. I powered it up and it gives the same error code and won't connect to the server. So this isn't just a phone problem which is good. Something has to be going on for it to affect phone and tablet email. It is exchange that is not working. I use Gmail app for my emailing, but use email so it will sync my calendar etc from work
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda app-developers app
Got this too, still in Oct 2012
It doesn't look like this has been fixed since I'm still dealing with it today on my new asus tf700.
exchange
As far as I know, android can't handle exchange good. I tried to use a so called clients to syncronize between our exchange server and theese 2 apps (Exchange ExMail and Exchange by TouchDown ), but I always had an issue that after I read a mail on my phone, in my dekstop client it was still unread. I used MIUI on defy. Okay that was a year ago and I didn't tried again, but on my friends apple 3GS the exchange client works perfectly. Maybe your problem is related to android client side problems.
