Alright, so I've seen this error before and done plenty of searches and tutorials, and here is where I'm left off:
I have an HTC Thunderbolt and I was getting tired of Das BAMF RC 4.9, so first I wanted to flash BAMF's SoaB to check Sense 3.5, but the OS felt laggy even after waiting for everything to update. So from that point forward I was gonna go with CM7, but it wouldn't flash. I tried both versions in the XDA forums, and no luck, always got the (bad) and then installation aborted.
I flashed the RUU and figured I'd update Verizon's OTAs and then root again. (mistake I'm sure). I had to follow a new root process from the Windows side of my Macbook Pro. The root went fine, but once again, nothing I had downloaded would flash. After finishing a wipe and rebooting, my screen popped up to the infamous "security warning".
Seeing guides online I attempted to flash:
-my original MR1 RUU
-AndroidPolice_PG05IMG_Mecha_2-1.11.605.3
-AndroidPolice_PG05IMG_Mecha_2-2.11.605.3
-AndroidPolice_PG05IMG_Mecha_2-3.11.605.3
No dice, it would get to "checking PG05IMG.zip", load up, then return to main screen. Unplugging the TBolt made the ***Security Warning*** go away, but still no RUU's would flash. So here I am, none of the RUU's, old or new, will flash to my device and it won't boot to anything but hboot.
Fixing would be nice to grab money for it, but at this point, I'm thinking about waiting for Galaxy Nexus. Any suggestions?
First of, Am terribly sorry about your ordeal. secondly, I am unable to comment on a possible fix for resolving your issue. Since you did state that you're waiting for the GNexus to come out, May I suggest checking out this site for "possibly" the Baddest android to come out maybe early next month..Check out this site (http://www.releasedates.co/product/motorola-droid-razr-release-date-0)..Again, sorry about your issue. RUUs scare the crap out of me and I keep my distance!! I rooted correctly the first time around and that was scary enough. Hope it all works out for you. PM a "Known" dev within TB's forums and am sure you'll get a quicker answer rather than waiting for one to discover your Thread
Thank you for the condolences. lol.
I looked at the RAZR a bit, but I with my current fiasco, I don't really want to root for a while (because I just don't need it), I'm super stoked for ICS, and the Nexus is supposedly nearly bloatware-free. Given that RAZR is such a running Verizon name, I almost expect it to have even more Bloatware out of the box, and the Bionic hype, release, and quick fall from grace makes me a little leery of Motorola right now. I figure I had a MotoDroid X, then an HTC TBolt, so now I'll give Samsung a shot. But I suppose someone may attempt to sell me on the RAZR, so I say "give it your best shot".
Great minds do think a like and Am not completely sold on it yet either.. for most of the reasons you've stated. The specs however, are given me "Tunnel" vision though and I hope I can wait till the first batch and any major issues get ironed out before my "Non Patient" self decides to get it..Bionic was definitely a "BIG" hype and I personally didn't even think of getting it and I don't regret one bit getting my TB. Am kinda a sense guy but CM7's latest got me trippin now cuz I've got it setup so damn nice and its Blazing Fast and smooth ..I guess I didn't do a good job selling you on DR and I wouldn't try it cause that would be "Hypocritical" of me..LOL
Haha, don't worry. I've got the "tunnel vision" for the GN. I heard the words "ICS" "Bloatware-free" and "Dual-core optimized" and I was sold. You seem like you know your technology very well. Don't suppose you have a Google+ I could add you on?
In fact, I am on G+ but to be honest, Am not much for the social apps and not exactly sure on using it..I haven't given it much effort. I may be the only one in this world not on FB LOL
Please see this thread for a possible fix. Fix is on Post # 5. Please share your results.

Unfortunately, those were the first two RUU's I attempted to flash :/ no dice
You said you flashed an ruu and then gained root.
1. Which ruu did you flash?
2. And which root method did you use?
3. When you boot into bootloader does it say locked or unlocked?
4. And which bootloader version does it show?
5. Are all your root applications working?

I'm thinking that you have a HBOOT lower than the version 1.04

I'll attempt to answer the questions as best I can:
1. I don't recall the actual last RUU that I flashed (sorry, I know that doesn't help)
2. forums.androidcentral.com/thunderbolt-rooting-roms-hacks/71919-mac-procedure-how-root-htc-thunderbolt(DOT)html I started with this root method, but for some reason couldn't get passed the second hboot process, so I ended up running forums.androidcentral.com/thunderbolt-rooting-roms-hacks/123060-guide-how-root-unroot-thunderbolt-revolutionary(DOT)html <<that one, but it told me i was rooted. (odd, I should have realized)
3-4. the screen is as follows:

HBOOT-0.95.0000
MICROP-/
RADIO-1.02.00.0103_2r
eMMC-boot

5. I cannot boot into Android, so I can't really answer that last question.

Is there anyway you can hit me up on chat somewhere. You have the bootloader used before the phone was released 0.95.0000. This is why you are getting the security warning. The released version was 1.04.0000. From my understanding, you are not supposed to downgrade the bootloader lower than that released version. PM me your IM info and I'll gladly try to help you.

So I am on the fence on this one. Every Android device I have owned has been rooted but not being able to return the device if something should go wrong has me a little skeptical with the View.
Looking at the development section I also don't see anything that would make me jump off stock right now and not sure if that will change in the future.
Anyone else contemplating keeping it stock? I did notice you can always go back to GB from HC and then root but it would require you to use HTC unlocker. My question is, if you use HTC's unlocker can you still achieve S-OFF and load Roms, Radios, and Kernels from CWM or will it be like the EVO 3D fiasco?

Nevermind please ignore. My post below is about Flyer and OP was asking about View. Not sure what to do about view
Not accurate. You do not need to unlock to get to HC or get back from HC to GB.
1) GB to HC: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1358758
2) Back to GB: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1428104
After following instructions on second link, you are back to GB, but you are S-OFF. To go back to S-ON Follow this guide => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1346200

I went about this in just about the wrong-est way possible by getting the OTA Honeycomb update before doing anything. I used the HC to GB downgrade process described in the dev forum (which requires the HTC unlock as a first step), then got S-OFF using globatron's other thread, both of which worked with little drama.
I've had no trouble flashing ROM's through CWM but haven't tried anything else (is the HC kernel source for the View even available yet?). In short, I have no regrets, but I bought the View to play with so YMMV.
I think the main thing I am looking forward to with this purchase is the rooting and the unlockable bootloader. If I decide to keep it, that will be the first thing I'm doing
I am going to stay Stock. It's a very good device as Stock and there is no need to put on a ROM as far as I am concerned.

You shouldn't return the product because you screwed up trying to modify it... this is the reason why locked bootloaders exist!

Thanks buddy, I don't need a lesson from you as to why locked bootloaders exist. I have owned over 10 smartphones in my day and have unlocked / rooted all of them with no problems. But you best be sure if I mess something up within my return period it is going back like everyone else here would do including you Mr high almighty.
Also, when Dev's work on an un-root method a lot of times they will brick a device and need to return it for another one. So will you purchase them another device so they can do you a favor and unlock your bootloader for you? I don't think so.
So after doing some research, I am thinking of rooting it but just leaving GB on it. I have seen people complain about some compatibility issues with some apps as well as the on screen buttons taking up to much screen real estate. I don't really see an advantage to going to honeycomb.
Another question, is there a way to re-root the phone back to stock after it is unrooted? If ICS comes to town, I would probably want to grab the official update...

Why? A rooted version of the official ICS update (if one every happens) would likely show up right after the official OTAs hit the airwaves. If not leaked earlier even.
Well with the new HTCDev unlocker tool. I am not so sure i want to root my phone just yet. From the videos i have watched you have to be connected to the net and have to receive a token during the root process. Could this possibly be a method that can void your warranty without a workaround? Would it be smarter to wait for a Dev community method?
I only ask this because, well i have the rooting/flashing itch. I am still funbling around with my phone and getting to know it. Yes people, i am one of those guys, the one who really misses the 4th menu button. So would it really be worth flashing while I am still getting used to the phone. Don't get me wrong the phone rocks even with 3 buttons, but is it worth rooting right away via the HTC Unlocker?
From what I understand, any root method will void your warranty. I have never had an issue getting a rooted phone replaced at Sprint. I always flashed a stock rom before taking it in.
Any root will void a warranty, HTC just has a way to track it with HTCdev. A community method just makes it easier to get away with..

Thx... appreciate the response, its exactly what was on my mind... Except my missing menu button..
Purchase insurance on your phone and you shouldn't have to worry about your warranty. I had my original Evo replaced after it had an unfortunate collision with a wall and the screen no longer worked. I took it into the Sprint store to try and get it repaired, but they told me they couldn't and to file a claim online. The next day, I had a 3D in my hands. My 4G was rooted with S-OFF, but of course they couldn't tell since the screen didn't work.
I am going to hold off for a while on Rooting. I have a feeling there will be a few OTA updates to fix minor things and don't want to have to go back and forth to get updates. I was 100% set on rooting until I found out that foxfi works out of the box! no need (for now) for me to root!
How did you install Foxfi? It says the app is not compatible with my 4G LTE and shows the phone greyed out.

Why would you have to go back and forth? Someone always releases a rooted stock rom within hours of it's release by HTC, all you would do is either flash that or wait for the developer of your rom to update to the new OTA. As for OTA's, if and when we have a root and s-off method it's not only possible but likely that you wouldn't be able to use it if you updated your phone. Within weeks of the s-off on the EVO 3D there was an OTA patching it. I haven't rooted yet but I wouldn't accept any OTA's just in case. I still may return my phone due to data issues.

You could still get the update even while rooted.
I'll probably give it 2 weeks to make sure the hardware is okay.
Need to root for some privacy apps.
I can hear Pandora/Facebook/Twitter sucking my contacts, web history, and phone number without my permission as we speak.
I used the HTC unlock method on my 3D and didn't hesitate to do it on my new Evo LTE. It was well worth it.
For what it's worth, I had to bring my 3D in to sprint to have the touch screen replaced when it randomly went bad and they never said anything about my phone having an unlocked bootloader... They don't care.

You have to go directly to foxfi to get the APK a google search will bring you there. It is not in the market. It works fine on my phone, now I wait for second round LTE then I can get better speeds.

Alright so long story short I tried to rush through rooting my new phone here without checking everything out too much (complete fail on my part...but I wanted it rooted before I went out to the bars to save some battery life haha...ironic, now I'll have no phone tonight).
I went to root it and it somehow got screwed up...the sense launcher wasn't showing up along with the fact that when I pulled down the notification bar and hit settings, it crashed, so I went to unroot it with the RUU 1.13.651.1 and when I got to the comparison screen it said I had 1.13.651.1_R2...and being already frustraited at this point, decided how worse could it get? Tried it out, not my brand new phone is stuck at the black htc screen....fail.
Anyone have any suggestions on what to do? I tried running it again to no avail...I'm about to try the other RUU to just see if it works, but I'm running out of other ideas. Anyone that can help, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Well, the good news is the phone is not hard bricked, it has a soft brick and is recoverable. Redownload the RUU and try again, but make sure you have the correct one. If that doesn't work you'll have to unlock with htcdev, flash a recovery and flash a ROM. Then try the RUU again if you no longer want root.
Like others have said...it sounds like there is hope for your phone yet. Take your time and CAREFULLY follow instructions for whichever process you choose. Hopefully you post again later saying you were able to fix it.

First off don't feel too bad, No matter how sure you know what your doing we all make mistakes. I paperweighted mine while manually installing some mods last night. If you would of watched the how to RUU the evo lte you would of seen that that the black HTC screen is perfectly normal. The phone will sit on that screen for like 10 minutes sometimes it will reboot and sometimes you will get differnt screens. The key is to have the drivers handy and install them if ur PC ever calls the device android 1.0.
The RUU version 1.13.651.1_R2 is the one you should be using. As scary as it is you just need to be patient, and let the RUU run it may look like nothing is happening but something is.

You don't have to s-off to root, but you do have to unlock the bootloader. You say he borked it with the update somehow? Was it the OTA update or something different?
We need a little more info to really get going here. Has the phone ever been rooted, unlocked, or anything else ,and what software version is it running now?
He has a phone with a shattered screen, his replacement had GB and tried the ota ics and somehow messed it up is all he said, i'm totally new to HTC devices so I agreed to help him but I didn't know HTC was this different than a motorola or Samsung

Make sure it's powered down, pull and replace the battery, and then hold VolDown+Power. That should bring you into the bootloader. Then, transcribe all the info from the top (locked/unlocked/relocked, hboot version, radio version, etc).
Its on GB... Stock from factory, as a replacement, ics ota pulls up a red triangle with exclamation point for like half an hour before giving up on that
