Device not booting - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My device battery was fully drained. The next day I tried to charge - it doesn't boot only.
When charging,it stays on NO battery screen (empty battery with busy icon inside it).
When continue to charge, the device gets warm, but nothing happens.
When continue to charge, it shows this screen (empty battery with busy icon inside it) and goes off.
Any idea for help?
No over clocking / over-volting.
I am on MIUI rom.

Try a usb jig, if not, your device might be bricked

May be battery failure!! Check with other battery!

Thanks all for the suggestions. It is working now.
History - I was on travel to India, and was trying to charge with the wall charger unit (this worked in UAE). But this refused to charge in India. When I returned to India - it started to work when I am back in UAE.
Does wall chargers - give different power that the device can't boot???

The battery was too low and I didn't charge it at the night time. In the morning it was completely dead so plugin the charger, the orange charging light turned on once and after that it didn't turned on? Please help.
If it is completely dead it always takes a few minutes of charging time before the orange light shows up. Don't try to power it up until it has had at least 30 minutes or so of charge time.

How do i fix it ? please help ... there's even no charging light even I plug it into the charger.
If it has been on the charger for more than 30 minutes and no orange light, you need an external way to charge the battery.
When the battery is past a certain point, CWM prevents it from charging, which is why we don't use it.

If the battery was dead, it may take 20 mintues or more on a charger before you see a charging light. If the orange LED is flashing when you hit the power button, it means it does not have enough juice to power on. Make sure it is connected to a wall charger, and wait. If you flashed a rom incorrectly, you many have to pull the battery for about an hour before trying to reinsert it. Lastly, I also had a faulty battery initially and once replaced with a new one, worked fine.
check this out its at walmart.
external lithium ion battery charger second on the list is the universal one you can find them by the digital camera equip at most walmarts http://www.walmart.com/search/searc...ind&_ta=1&search_query=digipower&_tt=digi-pow once your batteries charged put it back in your phone and flash a different recovery preferably this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1339679

[Q] Xperia Ray not charging/ need to unroot to send for repair

Hi guys, i consider myself an intermediate around the android OS and i have tried most solutions that came to my head with no results.
My problem is the following:
My xperia ray is running stock rom ICS and is rooted. That's it
One day my battery suddenly drained to 0% and phone shut off.
Since then, i cannot charge it. Whenever i plugged it, the led blinks red /sometimes keep blinking/something always red/sometimes the phone boots after 10 seconds from entering the main page it will reboot.
I tried a different battery, the phone worked, so i bought another battery but the same happened, it suddenly went to 0% and not charging anymore.
Now I cannot access the phone via USB since it is not recognized and i can't work on it since there is no power,
What can i do to at least unroot it before sending it to warranty?
Try reflashing..

unlocked bootloader and rooted, or can you root without unlocking it? I actually forgot since the ray was always my secondary device.
Do you mean i rule out any hardware problem, this is related to software only ? Since my Pc cannot recognize the phone, it gives me usb device not recognized..
Might be a hardware problem..cant say for sure..

We cannot rule out any hardware problem as of now..,yes you can root without unlocking the bootloader.
This might be a software issue..are you running on stock kernel ?

My phone isn't holding any charge, the battery is always 0, when charging it only gives red lights. Sometimes the phone will boot, it will show the xperia logo, go into the main lockscreen for 5 seconds then shuts off.
Buying a universal charger would mean waiting for 1 month for it to be delivered since i only found it on ebay

Was it damaged by water?
it's really easy to check if it was water damaged, open the back cover and look for a small WHITE rectangle, if you see a red rectangle it was water damaged, same with the battery it has a small white rectangle
IF NOT..see if SUS or PC companion recognises the phone..Repair your phone if it recognises.
IF NOT take out your phone battery for 15 seconds..put it back turn on the phone..and connect the charger but DO NOT SWITCH ON YOUR PHONE..let it charge for 5 HRS continuously..
IF NOT Try using another battery to turn your phone on...and see if it charges up..
Still NOT working?,Have you unlocked your boot loader ?

Thank you for your suggestions, i did something in the meanwhile.
I have a co-worker who has the exact phone, so i put my battery in her phone and charged it. In the meantime, i used her battery inside my device and used flashtool to flash stock ICS.
My device had bootloader unlocked, i managed to lock it back.
Now after i have a clean ICS copy unrooted. I return my friends phone, put in my battery and put it on the charger, the phone recognizes the charger, it gives me the small flash logo on the battery icon but the battery meter is not charging.
I'm afraid it's going to stay on until the battery drains to 0 and then i'm back to square one.
At least now i'm unrooted and can check the sony service center if they could do anything.

The battery voltage is increasing or not ?
Do not trust the battery meter...The voltage reading will tell whether its working fine or not..
Close to 4200 mV is 100%
While 3400 mV is low battery less than 10% typically..

Well when it's plugged in, the lockscreen says charging. The battery icon has the flash sign on it. It is recognized by my Laptop. But the battery status is discharging and i monitored the voltage, it was decreasing.

Check if the port is clean and check the battery pins and pins on your phone.
Do you have the possibility to test another battery? So you can be sure it's not just your battery...
did you have try to let the smartphone shutdown by itselft? and charging the battery after that...
Sounding more and more like a hardware problem. If you have access to a voltmeter, turn your phone off, remove the battery and plug your phone in, check the voltage coming out of the battery terminals in the back. It should be ramping from 1 V to around 3.6 V (at least from the USB port, it might be higher from the wall charger).

thanks for the reply guys, I'm updating the thread so other people might benefit from reading it. I went to Sony service center. The technician first told me there was water damage, although i'm confident that the phone was never dropped in water. Also he showed me that the pins for the battery were bent.
He said he will inspect the motherboard, if it's not corroded (from water) he will replace the motherboard since it's still on warranty.
If it is corroded, he can't do anything.
The strange thing is that the phone is working 100% except i cannot charge it. USB function is working correctly.
PS: Always Unroot and re-lock your bootloader before sending to service, they will check for these and can refuse to serve you by the warranty.

plug charger & boot phone.
install that app & load your device to 100% (or just for 1-2 hours)
open that app. (DONT REMOVE CHARGER!!!!!) then press on calibrate battery.
power off phone normally. NOW UNPLUG
try to turn on that phone.
also maybe your battery is dead. so need a new one....
Sir the phone needed to be connected to a charger before I power it up because if I power on the phone by itself it won't open

I think I encountered this kind of problem once. It happened when I swap my empty battery with a new one. Difference are, mine still manages to turn on without charger but battery meter shows almost empty (it actually had full juice) so the phone shuts down after homescreen. Try wiping dalvik, somehow it fixes the calibration for me.
Or look for DisableCriticalBatteryShutdown on xposed installer downloads.

Got my phone fixed. It's just a battery problem. I replaced the old one. Thank you guys

G Alpha wont turn on.

I charged my phone night before last and I used it in the morning. I left it on top of the bed when I had to do stuff.
I went to get my phone and my wife said it was warm and that she found it under the blanket. The blue notification light was flashing but I could not get the screen to come on via the power buttom.
I cannot get the phone to respond using any methods.
Could my phone have just died in an instant?

It needs a fair amount of current during boot up, a charger may not supply enough.
Batteries last 1-3 years. I just look at replacing them as part of normal maintenance.
Get it out of there before it fails... any swelling is an Li failure which can cause severe damage.

Try replacing the battery, then go from there.
It may be a dead end but you need to eliminate it as the cause. You could also check it's voltage after a failed boot to get an idea of it's condition.
Fully charge it first... and don't short it out while measuring it. Measure before and right after boot attempt with no charger.
4.3 volts is about 100%
3.9 volts is about 70%
3.5 volts is about 20%
Since it's a no load reading at 100% it should be near 4.3 volts. After the attempt if it drops below 4 volts it's likely toast.
Thanks
But isn't the display supposed to turn on when I plug in the charger
Not even the display shows anything..

Probably time to have it examined. May be a loose connector, a C-port or a mobo failure.
Or may be from a bad flash...
