[Q] From custom ROM to STOCK - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello there!
Im new to this forum! Nice job with it!:fingers-crossed:
I have an SGS2 and yesterday i flashed it in Ressurection Remix v3.1.1, it has already Siyah Kernel!
My question is.... I need to get back in stock version... in ICS 4.0.4 as i get out of the box....
How could i do this?
I need the stock rom and something else??? or i need only need to flash stock rom....
Thanks buddiez!

Easy Go to here

Download the stock firmware for your region from sammobile.com (or any stock firmware, really) and flash it via Odin.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app.
If noobs on xda have taught me one thing, its that smartphones just aren't for everyone.

I should download firmware (Greece (Cosmote) 2012 August 4.0.4 I9100BOLPM I9100COSLP9 Download)
and i ll go in download mode, connect it via odin and put into PDA box and start flash???? and thats all?? or i ll brick my phone?

Well if thats where you are from then yes that should be it.
A little guide to flash via odin. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278

i read somewhere in forum, that if i have siyah kernel and if i try to flash with stock kernel, it will break.... its true or not?? and thanks for FAST reply!

No. It won't brick as long as you don't wipe data while on a firmware affected by the bug. Just try to avoid using stock 4.0.4 firmware to steer clear of the emmc brickbug. For more info on that look in the general section.

so thats my problem......... you mean not to get back in stock rom?????? or stock kernel???
My steps to get it in stock place is to flash it only with stock rom????
Sorry about my bad english.... i may dont understand some things.... thanks for your patient...

Ok easy now. If you want to go back to stock firmware just use your current siyah kernel to wipe data and cache Aka factory reset. When you have done that just use odin to flash the firmware You should not brick your phone

Dnt worry just follow the instructions... I hope u have downloaded stock rom

4 do full wipe, clear cache..
2.restart ur phone.... Go to download mode connect to pc and flash through Odin putting that tar file in pda section...
6 restart ur phone..
7 do not wipe ur phone after that.. Done
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda,da premium

So steps are:
1 up volume key+home+power,
2 clear all data and cache
3 open my phone
4 connect via usb
5 open odin
and flash the zip ive already downloaded????
or i can install this zip via siyah kernel?

I am not sure if you can flash stock firmware via CWM. For Odin compatible files see: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
Ok thanks.Would unrooting it work out the same as going back to stock.I have nand backups of siyah kernel and stock kernel, and Ive reset the counter/triangle away.
Could I follow this guide and it would ok for going back to samsung and retain my warranty

update;
I have managed to unroot the phone but I cant seem to root it again......very strange.I have tried following this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1501719 but there is a problem.
when I install the cwm zip(think its v5.8),I basically cant do anything in its menu.It only scrolls down once in the menu, then hangs/freezes.Once it did work and I was trying to install the busybox stuff, but it couldnt find anything to install.I cant remember but I did see a " e:verification signature error".
So I tried to root using odin and basically it wont flash the required .tar file for rooting successfully and Ive got to keep reflashing the stock .tar file...
Has anyone encountered these problems before.

How did you try to scroll, with volume up/down? If I am not mistake this CWM is a touch version
It was just the basic one.I've never seen recovery acting the way that version was doing.Out of the 6 options I could only scroll to 3 of them, and it wouldn't go near the other 3 options.
I eventually fixed the problem by trying combos with pressing the power and home buttons, and I think I got the other file in that link installed(the root). Then I stuck on siyah(c/w the touch recovery you said),which meant I could reinstall everything by the nand backup.
I can't remember if I got out of the other part of the recovery problem(verification) by getting the 2nd file from the internal memory and flashed that successfully.

Go to the download mode and flash rom via Odin. Make sure you have enough battery
Download mode: hold power + home + volume down until you see it on screen.
Make sure you have the right version of the rom to use it with Odin.

First?? That is pointoless for 2 reasons...
You dont need to root to flash with odin
Root will be gone after you flash rom in odin.
If the user wants root he should flash custom kernel after flashing rom.

If you don't know the basics, perhaps you shouldn't mess with flashing.
First read, learn and understand rooting, Odin, ADB, brick-bug, kernels and ROMs, bootloops and bricks.
When you think you're ready, you'll already know the anwers.

[Q] Custom Firmware Install

Hi, Im new here.. so hello to everyone...
Ok I have an unbranded open S2 GT-i9100. Firstly I wanted to know what phone i have from the baseband version and build. see below.
Baseband: I9100XXLQ6
Build: IMM76D.XWLPT
Secondly i want to put Biftor v8 on there. Fed up waiting for samsung to realease on kies.
How do i go about it? do i need a kernal to match my build and do i have to root before installing Biftor or can it all be done at once?
Any details would be great. thanks.
Root it, wipe it and flash it. If you want to know how: feel free to search and read on xda Guides aren't there to ignore you know.
Thanks I appreciate the fast reply. However my question wasnt really answered. I am happy to root, wipe and flash it but my main consern is what kernel i need to root it. Do i need a kernel that matches my current version.
If so is my version XXLQ6 or XWLPT
Thanks...
If ur gonna flash a CF kernel to root, look up the kernel version in ur About Phone page. The baseband version is not relevant here.

Hi again, so I did some searches. Apoologies for not being thorough first time round. And i discovered how to root. and i also discovered im in a prime position to hard brick. insane chip and 4.0.4.
so i think i need to change my kernel to siyah kernel or similar. Will i then be safe to install biftor etc? if so do i wipe cache etc when i install biftor. Will moving to siyah kernel remove risk of hard brick when restoring / wiping.
thanks
Siyah v5 or Mobile Odin for stock ROMs.

Yes, flash a custom kernel first, that matches your android version (4.0.4 -> Siyah v5 for example).
Then you'll be safe to flash custom firmware. Follow the instructions on the first page of Biftor's thread, then you'll know all you need to know

[Q] Doubt with upgrading CWM and flashing CM 10.1

Hello guys...
I just rooted my Galaxy S3 and flashed CWM recovery successfully using a Odin flash
I followed the method in this tutorial.
Now I am on CWM 5.5.0.4: CF v.1.5 (I know its old ><)
This thing is my CWM said it's old and some functions are disabled.
I boot to the revovery mode and couldn't do a backup...
This is the main reason why I am hesitating flashing CM 10.1
Therefore, I searched through the forum and found that I can always upgrade my CWM recovery to the latest version with ROM Manager.
The problem I cannot find ROM Manager from the play store (incomparable with my device??)
I wonder I can just install the apk directly and update through ROM Manager.
Secondly I am from Macau, and my device is bought in Macau so my device is probably the International version. I am worrying flashing CM10.1 would brick my device because I am not sure if I have downloaded the correct version for my phone.
I have looked at this XDA thread, I just want to make sure if the correct one is the first download from this page (http://www.get.cm/?device=i9300)
I know these are probably dumb questions but I really try out new roms for my phone~~ Hope someone could help and advice me! Thanks a lot~~!!

Yes requires recovery the CWM manager does not work .
I boot to the revovery mode and couldn't do a backup.
Dont see why not but you can update or pick one of the other root and recovery tools all in Development section .
Probably is not good enough it must be I9300 only for firmware from this forum .

And what recovery is appropriate in my case?
