[Q] problem while rooting - HTC EVO 3D

I need some help
I was rooting my phone not the first time but anyways I unlocked it via htcdev method flashed custom recovery and superuser but when I do the adb shell thing nothing happens I don't know what to do next I check root checker and it says device not rooted properly btw I'm currently on ICS
Hope a quick reply
Cheers

try following this method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1889438
youve completed part of the guide already by using htcdev and all, but i dont recall having to adb shell all that much.
if you are already using that guide, make sure you have htc drivers installed and install htc sync (but uninstall the app afterwards and keep the drivers it also installed),
so that you're computer recognizes your phone.
also, do you actually have the superuser app on your device right now?? like is it there, just not working. or not there altogether?

The computer recognizes the phone
I have the superuser app but its not working I guess and the guide is for CDMA mine is gsm I followed the guide in the gsm development section

im guessing you're using this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1535987
if you are, i clicked on the link to superuser and it brought up goo.im saying the file i requested wasnt not found.
did you per chance download one of the other superuser.zip's underneath that?? cause i'm pretty sure they might be for other devices.
if you want, i could email you the supersu.zip i used to gain root. just say the words

Rooted not Rooted

I tried to root it says Im rooted then Im not rooted then I cant install busybox. Superuser is installed. What do I do root again?I tried the the easy install method like I used to and always worked but I lost the file I used to use. Guess I will eventually have to learn ADB.It says s-off which I thought it meant rooted.
Rebooot into hboot, look for s-off if it says that, your rooted. If it says s-on than it isnt

It says s-off but cant do anything, cant install busybox, do anything with rom manager etc...
Too many possible solutions...brain exploding...
Roms are "rooted" so the problem is in the rom you have itself. If you have no recovery, simple suggestsions are...
-See if you are able to install an updated version of Superuser from the Android Market and fix your permission problems and let you reflash recovery.
-Flash a custom recovery via bootloader and flash whatever rooted rom you want from that custom recovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179386
-Flash a pre-rooted stock PG05IMG.zip in bootloader such as the custom one in the rooting tutorial
somebody set you up the bomb?
were you able to get clockwork on at least(if it didn't get put on automatically when you s-off'd)
I couldnt get into clockwork, i renamed a stock debloat rom and tried to load in recovery it says it loaded but it didnt nothing happened.
Run step 3 again

Screw it it says s-off Im rooted but then I cant get into clockwork or busybox Im just going back to stock.
Try flashing a different rom, like gingeritis or bamf. If it doesn't load through cwm, try installing a working cwm like the above posts mentioned. And then try again. My guess is your still on a stock rom so there is no root functions available to you, or your cwm is corrupted

His main problem is that he says he doesn't have a custom recovery (clockwork) installed. So he can't flash this.
Only thing he can access and use is hboot right now so using my second or third suggestion above (which he would have to do in order to flash that zip) would definitely fix his issues. The first suggestion I gave would help in some situations so I added it first but as I said, 2nd and 3rd would work fine.
All this assumes he actually doesn't have a custom recovery but does have engineering hboot s-off. If this much isn't true, then he could just unroot and start over using the pinned guides in the dev section.

You are correct my friend, i have eng hboot s-off but I just need to follow the directions in the dev section if I really want to pursue this further. I went back to stock and when I have time or feel like trying again I will follow the guide as I re downloaded the files again.
I do have another question as Im a little slow lol. I have or am installing the sdk package now and to follow the dev root how do I get to the adb section. I just start the manager and go from a c: prompt nad use the line by line from there as if I tried using terminal from the phone it would get lost right? Sorry for the stupid question its just I used to use the auto root method that I had and it always worked then I lost the files. I also install all or everything it wants to for SDK correct?
ok on step 5 and it says device offline or error and is not working a little help please.
Ok I tried adb and I get errors , permission denied, tried several auto roots and get errors. This phone really doesnt want me to freaking root. Time to get a different phone or actually stay stock as it runs good and battery life isnt bad.

Revolutionary 0.4 now supports Thunderbolt - Can I install Roms after using?

http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/0...htc-evo-4g-and-incredible-2-with-gingerbread/
Sorry for being so new at this, but I'm on stock firmware and have never rooted before. With this tool can I root my phone and then install Gingeritis v1.2.1?
Anyone with a Thunderbolt tried to use revolutionary yet?
Thanks in advance!
I flashed it and it gave me s-off but
Rom Manager acts like my phone is not rooted.

When I used Revolutionary, it hung/froze after it did the root.
I was S-OFF but had to manually install su, busybox, and CWM.

Can't wait to try this. Been stock forever and this might be the time I would want to root. So I basically Use Revolution to get S-off, and then download that zip and run it and everything is cool?
That's all you have to do, don't forget to download Busybox.

Hello All. Long time reader and first time poster.
I just ran this and I have s-off but when I attempt to run Recovery so I can install superuser su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip, my phone just reboots and I get the red exclamation point. Any advice?
Download Superuser from the market.
The easy way is not always the best way. You guys need to learn ADB so when your phone messes up, you can run commands and fix it.

Well I'll be the first to say, "I told you so!" when their volume buttons break and they need to un-root to make a warranty replacement.
ADB is your friend and "ADB for Dummies" on YouTube is your lifesaver:

+1. I've had to do the manual way so many times... I feel like there will be many more questions doing a one step method, rather than the ADB method, as one step doesn't really give you a detailed description on whats wrong.
Most of the mistakes are from not reading the instructions.
This is just out and the instructions for Thunderbolt have not
been posted yet. There are some general instructions that are
being used today. With one mistake I made it still only took five
minutes and I don't have any problems to fix.
FWIW... Use these instructions posted by XDA Member rivera82falcon in the INC2 forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1219246
EXCEPT FOR STEP 9c, where you will need to flash the Thunderbolt CWM file, located here:

HTC Evo 3D root problems....

I have a HTC Evo 3D and I used HTCdev's bootloader unlocker to unlock my HBoot 1.5. Trying to find a rom to flash/fastboot in order to set "s-off" and gain SU permissions. Stuck in the middle of it and dont know what to do next......wish I kept my HTC Evo 4G :-(
Any hints or advice welcome, and thanks for reading my post...
What rom are you trying to flash ?
Sent from my HTC EVO 3D using XDA App
I haven't tried to flash any roms yet when im checking out these rom pages most of them require you to be in superuser mode, which i am not yet in. only unlocked the bootloader so far. just looking for a point in the right direction from someone with HBoot 1.5 on Evo 3D who has successfully been able to get the su permissions to work with a 'stock-like' mod that just unlocks the su.
also, my S-On is still on which wont let me enable the flash from hboot so i would need a process to get it thru using my laptop
I believe i need the proper PG86IMG.zip file associated with my phone also.
I already have the correct files such as SDK, java, and htc drivers.

Take a look at the unlock guide from zedomax. It should be a sticky. Also, you won't get s-off with the htc unlock.

[CDMA] Newer 3D's are superuser redardant?

I'm at an absolute loss right now. I've rooted the EVO 3D that I received a few days ago from Sprint, since my old one couldn't be fixed by the technicians, and everything I try (BusyBox, Clockwork, ControlBear) says my phone is not rooted. It claims that it is 'Unlocked' and I followed the instructions to an absolute 'T' but it seems as if HTC recently restricted the crap out of the phone at some point. I've been dealing with this issue for a few days, E-Mailing developers, trying different tricks, and nothing is working. I'm quite irritated with the whole situation. I'm hoping someone here can help me out. I've tried searching Google, this forum, and other forums but can't find any answers.
Model PG86100
2.3.4 Android w/ 3.0 Sense
2.17.651.5 - CL245066 release-keys
with the Dec 12nd 2.6.35.13-g277012f Kernel
Thanks in advance for any help. Hopefully I can get this thing working before I record my beating the sh** out of the device, uploading it on YouTube for kicks, and picking up the EVO 4G LTE.
Did you install binary from superuser app

Are you sure you have rooted it ? or you've just unlocked the bootloader ?
I was under the impression that after doing the HTC Bootloader Unlock I would be able to use 4EXT right away. I tried following this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1239821 but apparently my device cannot be found.

I'm assuming your bootloader is unlocked....and I think you are trying to flash 4ext recovery using the 4ext app which requires your phone to be rooted i.e. you should have superuser app and binary in your system and not from google play. You can still flash 4ext recovery but by the indirect way i.e using pc . so better flash the twrp recovery as the guide says first ,then flash the su2.3.6.3 zip file from your twrp recovery as the guide says , which will root your phone....then you can use the 4ext app to flash 4ext recovery ........
if you would have purchased the evo lte, you would not have been successful in rooting it either .......follow the guide thoroughly and customize your android, recovery and other stuff later
Ran into the same problem when I rooted yesterday. Tried everything you did and nothing would work with super user. Bootloader said it was unlocked yet nothing would work. I uninstalled superuser and installed superSU and everything worked flawlessly. I guess the original superuser app just doesn't work. If you need me to provide a link, just PM me and I'll get it for you.
Thanks for the assistance guys. I appreciate it.

[Q] Failed to get Root

Simple as the title.
Was following this and downloaded Revolutionary beta by putting in my info.
My device (HTC Thunderbolt) is found, but I get this:
Zerging Root... this might take a minute or so.. Failed to get Root!
Press (almost) any key to exit.
I did a factory reset prior to this and I have my SIM card removed. I am wanted to root my device to use it as a programmable device. Unfortunately I can not even get past this first step:crying:
I am seeing something about zerg exploit no long works but I really do not know what this means. Is the guide I am following which is a sticky wrong and should not be promoting Revolutionary?
Is there a simple guide to get me root access and update the OS?
If your thunderbolt is on the official ICS ota you won't be able to use revolutionary to get root. There is a guide at infectedrom.com that can help you get root if you are on the official ICS.

Yeah I have never rooted it or anything so it would be stock. It has been dormant for about a year so I am not sure what OS it would have been upped to but it is currently at Android 2.3.4
I went to infectedrom but I do not see anything. In fact I see absolutely no threads inside the Thunderbolt listings.
Seems like a dead community
You have to register I'm pretty sure to see the threads. If you're on 2.3.4 and you're sure of it you need to make sure you have the proper version of revolutionary for your hboot version. You also need to make sure you uninstall any HTC drivers from your PC and use the drivers they provide. Sometimes disabling antivirus helps during the process and make sure to give the command prompt administration rights before you use it. If that doesn't work try a different USB cable or USB port on your PC.
