help. suggestions please - Droid Eris Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Okay guys. I haven't used this Eris in a couple years it's running the newest omfgb and that's the last time I messed with it my friend has had it and I want to update it a little for him.. It don't have service so data working ain't an issue just something smooth and overclocked to atleast 810mhz
The main reason IM asking is because I've seen so much about soff and unlocking the bootloader I don't remember doing that when I started flashing it... Just wanna make sure because IM not wanting to brick this thing

Go into the downloader by holding volume up and power I think. If there is a reboot menu when you hold the power button then you could maybe do it that way. I haven't used my eris in over 2 years but I remember running omfgb and loved it until one of the updates broke it. If you want a better Rom the best one I could suggest to you is condemnedsouls cm7. It's a solid Rom and is actually sill on my Eris.

how to put froyo on HTC droid eris.
I've tried.. Vanillla Tazz v28
I've tried.. [ROM]KaosFroyo V39
And none of these links work? Are there any other links to upgrade the HTC droid eris from 2.1 to 2.2 or higher, that work? :fingers-crossed:

Yes. Look for either GSB, Condemned Soul's CM7, or Evervolv in the development forum. All of those links should be valid. The first two are Gingerbread CyanogenMod ROMs and are excellent. I haven't tried Evervolv myself but it should be good as well. KaosFroyo is not worth the bother; in order to get it working well, there was always a bit of manual tinkering that needed to be done anyway. If you absolutely want a Froyo ROM, CELB was always good. (The GB ROMs are better, though.)
Also, If you are using ClockworkMod as the default recovery, as soon as you possibly can, replace it with Amon_RA recovery. Search for Scary Alien's recovery, which is a version of Amon_RA that is trackball-optional. There have been numerous Erises that have bricked from using Clockwork as the default recovery.

Restore back to stock

I havent used my droid Eris in a while because I got a droid incredible. I need to sell my eris because of the rough economy. Im running kaos froyo and CWM recovery. What steps should I follow to bring my phone back to total stock? Im unfamiliar with the restore process of the droid eris. Is their a PBM1img.zip file that i can flash? I would like it to have the latest (Rom)software available for it from HTC.
I very unfamiliar with the stuff for the eris so if their is a back to stock thread i can follow please let me know.

Just flash the flashback 1.5 Rom. It will take you back to stock 1.5 and stock recovery. Only exception is your bootloader will remain at s-off and there is no way to change that

Or just send me your DI.
Search the Eris Android develpment thread for Flashback 21 look for the threat with restore to factory stock in the title and follow the instructions in this thread and you should be good to go. The eris will not ota to 2.1 anymore. If you want 1.5 the instructions are there for that one as well.

MR2 radio

So just saw the post on the leak of the new mr2 software and radio. Has anyone had problems with it yet? I want to upgrade the radio and then go to an mr2 room ( i think thunderrom was the only one i could find that had ingegrated it) but i want to make sure it's all good to go first. Also would be nice if someone could post the radio link cuz I already lost it lol. Oh and would it be better to wait for gingerbread release since its supposed to be out by q2 and Im gonna do that anyway or should i do this since it's probably gonna be delayed?
Android Police MR2 leak
I've been running MR2 stock RUU since the leak and have had no issues.
The market app was an older version, but that was it really, no reboots yet!
Yea i flashed this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1115714 when it leaked and flashed almost every gingerbread/sense rom available without any problems so far

Wait Im more confused now... I thought this was a radio that worked for froyo not gingerbread. Is this just a more improved version if the previous gingerbread radio leak?
Alright after reading up some more it appears that this is the latest radio that will work for either gingerbread or froyo is that correct? Because the perfect storm and gingerbamf both use the mr2 radio but there on two different software versions. and unless Im wrong the perfect storm is still froyo
it will work on all gingerbread based roms, but only SOME froyo. I think PlainJane works (double check just in case). I just jumped straight to GB to get this radio

It works on both but only on newer froyo releases released in the past few days or so. There is a thread on the full ruu that explains this. Sorry I'm not at a computer or I'd post a link. I think it was posted by chingy or jcase...

easy answer this radio works with both. however it will not work with the froyo our phones came with or with the recent fail OTA update. It works with the newly leaked OTA update (MR2) which is still froyo but with an updated base. It also works with ALL the Gingerbread ROM's based off the gingerleak.
I've been running since perfect storm 1.5 was released and it runs flawless. for fun i have flashed some of the gingerbread rom's and it works fine except for the usual gingerbread bugs that are still being worked on.
hope this helps
Thanks for the fast replies everyone that helped a ton! One last question should I update my radio or install the new Rom first? I've seen it both ways and also with a flash, battery pull, and then straight to hboot but which is best?

doesn't matter...i find it easier to boot into recovery and flash rom...pull battery and boot in bootloader to flash radio and good to go...
it's just easier that way cuz if you flash radio first you gotta delete PG05IMG to get into recovery (which means pulling sd card and putting into adapter for computer)...or you have to fully boot into your old rom which will no longer work and then boot into recovery from there.
good luck
How can I tell if I successfully installed the new MR2 ruu.
My TB is rooted
Here's what I did: I restored my Stock Rom. I replaced the other(MR1) file with the one that I downloaded from the leak post. I turned off the phone. Held vol - and power. That got me to HBoot, then it asked if I wanted to update. Clicked yes and it did it's thing. Rebooted, wiped data, cache, dalvik. Installed The perfect Storm v1.5. It didn't brick so I think it didn't take.

Sweet. Do you think I should be worried about random brick?
only a problem with a pre release radio for gingerbread roms. dont fool around with anything you dont know about and youll be fine. i would recommend doing a clockwork backup though
Been running it since it leaked, no issues on two different GB ROMs.

The devs think the bricking issue is related to Hardware, not the software or radios. Read up on it. There are some things you can do to mitigate the risk, but the possibility is still there. You are running Froyo I think (PS 1.5?). MR2 will run that til you are ready to move to GB.

[Q]Help me decide, to Unlock or not to?

Hey!
Today I recieved my new t-mobile uk Atrix, sent to me from England.
Before I got it I had a HTC Desire, rooted, CWM installed and running custom AOSP roms with 2.3. I really liked that setup, minimalistic and no useless bloatware.
I've tried to read up on the matter, but it's a jungle..
This is how I understand it:
If I update to stock 2.3, it will be harder to unlock it and install custom roms in the future. This is wrong, it would in fact be much easier.
There probably won't be any AOSP roms, because the Atrix is quite different from the other phone, with the webtop and fingerprint reader (which i probably wont even use)
If it wasn't for all the red warning text, it would already be unlocked and romed. So what to do? Unlock and search through the masses for a bugg free deblurred 2.3 rom, or just update with the stock update and run with Zeam launcher instead? Can you install a stock rom on a unlocked bootloader?
Any ideas? Other suggestions?
Thanks for your help!

i'd say go for it, just do your research beforehand. it's a pretty simple process, just flash the corresponding pudding .sbf and run the 'fastboot oem unlock' command while in fastboot mode.
then you can proceed to flash a copy of CWM Recovery and install CM7, which is as AOSP as it gets! it doesn't have Fingerprint Scanner or Webtop yet, but Top Men are working on it so expect it all up and working before too long!
Thank you for the respons!
so I basically do what this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1196747) says?
Also, I saw a video where the person warned not to run RSD if you weren't on the newest, non gingerbread, release of stock. I assume that applies to t-mobile users aswell?

You and me both. I've had mine for a while (March) and have yet to take that leap. So far, running 2.3.4 O.T.A. w/root I am pretty satisfied. While I am certain that the experience would be greatly enhanced by flashing a different rom. I am simply too much of a chicken to take that leap. I've messed with a few other Android devices and was never too worried when flashing roms. But geez, all of those brick stories around here...
Whichever way that you decide to go, I am sure that you will be fine. The best of luck to ya.
Can anyone just confirm that I need to stuff in this order:
Root it.
Unlock bootloader using this method
Install a CWM, (probably gonna go with RomRacers)
Install a ROM.
ok i did the ota to 2.3 eventually used the autoscripter in general to root/unlock and aosp roms are starting with the cm7 beta once they have finished product its open game so far on cm7 beta myself totally worth it

Rezound Newb

Hello everyone. I received a Rezound today! I'm not new to Android or ROM's, but the last HTC I had was the Eris. Can anyone recommend a ROM? I'm coming from a DX2 which only had a few ROM options. I have to say the choices for the Rezound are a bit overwhelming. Where should I begin?
If you want ics, start with cleanrom. It is stable and will give you a good ics experience. Once you get a feel for it, try out a few bamf roms, and sense 4 roms.
Welcome to the rezound

They're all great, but you just need to be careful about which one you select since most of us are now running the leaked firmware and some ROMs are designed specifically for that. It would probably be a good idea to use one of Scrosler's ROMs at first since he generally has a bunch of directions about what to do if you are on the old firmware. Essentially, you would flash Srosler's CleanROM and then flash a patch (though he might have done away with the patch). Just look at the different ROMs and read through the threads. There will be a ton of stuff to read, but you really need to in order to be ready so you don't mess anything up. But really, you can't go wrong with any of the different ROMs. I've tried every ROM on this phone and still haven't picked my favorite. They're all that good. I usually switch once a week
That being said, make sure that you are unlocked through HTC Dev. There are plenty of threads in the dev section that will get you started and tell you how to do that. After that, you'll have your bootloader unlocked and will be ready to flash a custom recovery. Make sure that you use Amon Ra's new release. 3.15 would be for those who have flashed the new firmware and 3.14 is for the old firmware. Don't use CWM because it's generally buggy for our phones. Welcome aboard
I highly recommend Rezrom 3.3, its amazingly fast and stable, and lllboredlll has the patch you can download if you do not want to update to the new firmware. All the roms are great though and its really just personal preference.

That one is really good, too, if you're looking for some very nice theme work. Every ROM I've tried has been fast, stable, and sexy as hell. Plus every dev here will be there to help you if something goes wrong with the ROM (if you didn't cause the issue, of course )
EDIT: IF you do want to flash the leaked RUU, even though you don't have to, but if you do, read everything that you can about it. How to do it, what to do if something goes wrong, everything. Then read THIS guide from Scrosler. It'll walk you through the steps pretty carefully so you don't mess up. But again, you need to read EVERYTHING that you can about flashing it so nothing goes wrong.
I have tried all the roms. They're all great! but the one I'm waiting on is Newts 4.0 sense. Should release the update today.
Thanks for the input guys!
I've successfully unlocked the bootloader and installed Amnon's Recovery. I'm downloading CleanROM Pro 4.3 right now. Hopefully that goes smoothly.
I didn't install the leaked firmware as my understanding it that once you do, you can't go back. I think it would be better for me to hold off on that for now until I fully understand what positives/negatives are of each. Have most of you upgraded to the leaked firmware?

That's right, once you update to the new RUU, there's no going back. At least not until we have S-Off. It would probably be best just to not update yet until the OTA is released. I know a lot of us are on the new firmware, but that's mainly because the newer ROMs were going to be new firmware only. Some of them still are and require a patch. I say just hold off, too. At least this way you will have no worries of not being able to return your phone.
Yes I have and don't let it scare you. It's just a matter of repeating what you just went through to get your Rezound rooted. It was well worth it for me.
Smooth sailing! I'll all ROM'd up. Thanks again guys!

Hey Im new to all this unlocking and ROMS installing.
I just recently (finally) unlocked and rooted my Rezound
And was looking to install the most recent or best release of Cyanogenmod. Im pretty tech savvy although not with all this programming but Ive gotten this far and want to hook up my Rezound with a cool firmware. Does anyone know a link with instructions on how to do this?
Im running a root and unlock from the Unlockr on YouTube at the moment im not sure exactly if that matters but anyways I appreciate the help!

Most of the rom threads include directions. Did you s-off your phone? Did you also install a custom recovery like TWRP, Clockworkmod or Amon-Ra?
Take a look at the first post here if you want straight CM10.

If you want straight CM10, try the link I sent you and follow the s-on directions. Excuse the typo where it says flash CM9, he meant CM10. I would also suggest before you wipe /system, /data and /cache, make a back up of your existing rom in Amon-Ra.
The extra step you need to do when you're s-on is flash the kernel, the rom installer can't do it. GreyTheWolf includes the kernel in a downloadable file which you can place on the root of your sdcard and flash via the bootloader. The other option is to use your PC to flash boot.img using ADB and fastboot.
You can use Hansoon's all in one toolkit to assist in flashing a boot.img from your PC to your phone. - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1504824

Running CM10 on my HTC Rezound ^_^
So Ive been doing a bit more research on Jellybean roms & HTC Rezound. Seems like there arent very many due to AOSP and drivers working correctly with Sense.
I came across a Clockwork MOD recovery for JB that has AOSP, would that be a more ideal rom to use with the rezound?
Here is the thread I found:

Opinions would be nice, thanks!

ASOP based roms are a work in progress but are stable enough to use as a daily driver. Lack of drivers and the lack of an official JB release for the Rezound are some of the issues stopping it from being 100% functional. Our devs have done a great job getting the various AOSP based roms here as functional as they are and I'm sure are still trying to work out the rest of the issues.
Sense has nothing to do with it, Sense is just an overlay that HTC adds to the official build to give you the look and widgets. AOSP roms have zero Sense parts in them.
Clockwork Mod is just a recovery much like Amon-Ra or TWRP, it's not a rom.
The rom you listed is not for this phone nor will it work on it.
If the current AOSP releases aren't meeting your needs, I can only suggest you stick to a Sense rom until that happens.
Yeah an official release of Jellybean for the rezound would be nice.
Thanks for breaking it down im sure other members like myself will find this helpful.
Im more recreational than anything so I dont mind beta testing for the Devs! Im sure getting feedback will help them get closer to a stable release

With all these roms that are being released for the rezound I can understand how difficult it must be when members are looking for the best JB rom for Android, it really is a choice of preference.
Im running CM10 at the moment.
Is this the most stable rom for JB at the moment? Also would fastbooting a better kernel help improve stability?

There are a couple kernel choices that expand the governors available and add other features, check out Funky Kernel 2.2 (Funky Bean 2.2 for JB) or Ermahgerd Kernel. Both use the Aroma installer which gives you the option of installing on s-on phones, it creates a PH98IMG.zip you can flash in your bootloader so you don't need to use fastboot with a PC. Just flash the kernel in recovery and follow the directions on the screen.
As for JB ASOP roms, I'm been running Pacman a few days now (the PMEM version) and have been happy with it.
